This painting simultaneously breaks my heart and fills me with awe and hope. When people speak about how prevalent the bison were across Turtle Island I’m not sure if it fully HITS just how many were slaughtered, how much this land relied on them for proper ecological balance….

if we want our land to thrive, if we want the next seven generations to survive then we must help the bison (and the indigenous peoples who love/rely on them) to expand and grow until they are once again found all across the land.

On Monday, 106 years later, the Army formally announced it had overturned convictions of 110 soldiers convicted in the Houston riots. Officials also announced the Army would correct the military records of 95 Buffalo Soldiers who were not restored to duty to show “honorable discharge.”

"Buffalo" style (c1980's) styled by Ray Petri Ray Petri is credited as being the first person to be given the title "stylist" and for creating "Buffalo" style. Articles describing his influence can be found here and here. Thirty years after his death from AIDS, his influence is still felt.

The Gender In Real Life campaign is the inaugural #DorianCoreyProject 2024 social media crusade to highlight Black Trans, Gay and Queer elders whether they be local, national or across the African Diaspora. This campaign will continue throughout February and conclude in June 2024 ahead of Pride Month and Black Music Month. The concept of Gender In Real Life is to highlight the efforts of (hyper) visible Trancestors and Ancestors whose life work inspires Black LGBTQIA people today. We honor and thank them for their insights, sacrifices and introspective gifts. At a time where rights for Black people across Gender and Sexuality lines are increasingly being curtailed; in addition to multiple genocides and the ongoing global pandemic(s) that disproportionately affects Black/Trans people, the necessity of Ancestral Veneration in such a time is essential to our singular and collective wellbeing.
