This is way more than seven sentences, but I''m returning your angst @spotsandsocks with some of my own (although I feel like this is more intriguing and sad than angsty!!)

Unsure what to do, Daniel decides to see if his father will tell him anything. So he once more makes his way back down to the ground floor, knocking on his fathers study door and entering when he is bid to do so.

‘Father.’ he says. ‘I understand Evan has gone missing? Is there anything I can do to help find him?’

Philip looks up from the papers he is reading ‘He is not missing. He has run away and I shalln’t be wasting another farthing on him. He has disgraced this family with his behaviour I am full glad to be rid of him and he is no longer my son.’

Daniel stares at his father mouth agape. ‘But father.’

‘No. Not another word. You have no brother, I have only one son I was never burdened with the issue of a second son.’ Philip cuts across before Daniel can attempt to make any kind of arguement. The tone in his fathers voice is one Daniel is familiar with and he knows there is no use in arguing.

‘Very well’ he says and turns to leave the room, throwing a parting blow over his shoulder as he does. ‘In that case I might as well tell you that soon you will have no sons.’ He shuts the door and returns to his room.

If I may be so bold as to throw one of these your way, could I suggest:

Okay, so, it’s like this:

The first time your soulmate touches you skin to skin, it leaves a mark. And over time (because in a world where there are soulmarks, you know there would be entire scientific branches devoted to studying them) the different colours left behind on your skin have been decoded.

Red, weirdly, is for platonic love, so when eight-year-old Maddie Buckley holds her brand new baby brother for the first time and kisses him right there on his eyebrow, well, it leaves Evan with a splotch on his face and saves Maddie just, like, so much money in lipstick for the rest of her life.

The marks stay connected, too, throughout a person’s lifetime. Touch them together again and it sparkles under your skin like an effervescent tablet in water. And that’s true of all marks, not just romantic or platonic ones.

For a long time, those marks are the only ones either Buckley sibling has.

When Maddie gives him her Jeep and Buck runs, out from under their parents’ thumbs, she gets him to stoop down and kisses him on the eyebrow again, and then they don’t see each other for years.

Buck travels. He crosses the US a few times, back and forth. He goes to Peru, he comes back. He crosses the US again, taking a long drive through the deserts that look like paintings that make up the southwestern corner of the country. He ends up stopping the night in El Paso on his way between places, stocks up on provisions for the rest of his road trip to LA where he thinks he might try his hand at being a firefighter.

He stops a few other places, too, and doesn’t notice until he gets to the beach in LA and strips off his shirt to go for a swim. There’s a livid purple soulmark on his arm.

And he has no idea who it came from.

Soulmarks aren’t really essential for relationships, at least that’s what everyone keeps telling him when, ah, circumstances conspire to mean that Eddie and Shannon need to get married. Due to the whole “lack of soulmarks” thing, neither of them had really meant for their relationship to be serious, but, now, well.

Things are tense, at best.

But Christopher.

Eddie’s still terrified, of course he is, he’s twenty-two and he’s supposed to be a dad? But in the delivery room, he gets talked into trimming the umbilical cord just moments after Chris is born, and that’s terrifying, what if he fucks it up, and Christopher’s little belly is so small and surely he shouldn’t be putting scissors -- even sterilised medical ones -- anywhere near his newborn son -- he has a son, what even is happening right now -- and he doesn’t really mean to but he pats Chris on the shoulder to try and calm him -- being born is just, like, a lot for everyone, parents and children alike, and Eddie kind of wishes he was allowed to scream right then too, but he’ll leave that to the kid (oh god he has a kid).

Bright red blooms across Chris’s shoulder and for a wild second, Eddie thinks that maybe, somehow, his son is allergic to him.

The actual significance sets in a few seconds later when he notes that the pads of his own fingers are the same shade of red.

All three of the grandparents in the room take it in turns to pass Christopher around and see if they, also, have this connection to their grandson. They don’t. And to make things just that much worse, neither does Shannon.

So, y’know, things are tense.

At best.

It’s years later, after Eddie gets back from Afghanistan, after Shannon’s left Chris and given up on Eddie, after she’s sent the divorce papers, that he’s finally deciding he needs to take Chris and get the hell out of Texas. He hasn’t resolved to do this at all, he’s still just thinking about it (his parents haven’t tried to take Chris from him yet), and he’s doing his grocery shopping in the dead of night because he doesn’t really have another time to do it, what with working three jobs and having a six-year-old.

He’s so lost in thought about where they’d go if they left Texas and what he would do to support them that he’s only vaguely aware of someone bumping his arm as they cross paths in the aisles.

He doesn’t think much about it -- doesn’t really notice -- until he’s helping Chris with his cereal the next morning and Chris points out that there’s a big purple mark on his arm.

Chris wants to know what the purple marks mean, because he’s only ever noticed red ones, and Eddie doesn’t really know how to explain that it means Eddie touched the person he’s going to fall in love with and be in love with for the rest of his life, because he...has no idea who it was.

And so, mostly, Eddie tries not to think about it. He goes about his business, eventually his parents try to take Chris and they run for LA. He gets a job at the fire department and gets assigned a station.

There’s another guy on his shift who’s got a bruise-like purple soulmark on his bicep and -- according to Chimney -- a tragic lovestory to go with it. Chimney doesn’t know the tragedy, but offers some gossipy suggestions.

Buck doesn’t really like Eddie at first, but his posturing reminds Eddie just a little of a golden retriever trying to be fierce when you know the only thing going on in a golden’s head is fluff and love.

They pull a grenade out of a guy’s leg, and Buck likes him after that.

Hell, they survive an earthquake together with absolute aplomb, and Buck spends the whole time reassuring Eddie that Chris is gonna be fine. Buck doesn’t even know Chris, but it makes Eddie feel better.

It happens on their fourth shift.

They go to this dumbass call where a woman’s gotten her head stuck in a tailpipe at a cowboy bar -- Eddie wants to be haughty about the bar’s trappings in born-and-raised Texan, but, well, he’s been to pretty much this exact bar back home -- and both Buck and Eddie get hit on by the assembled onlookers. Usually, Eddie’s noticed, the soulmark on his arm deflects random flirting way better than his wedding ring ever had, but these women are drunk and he’s a firefighter so it could very easily be a bruise.

As they walk back towards the engine, Buck starts teasing Eddie about his apparent disinterest in the women. Eddie starts to fire back about Buck living in his invisible girlfriend’s house, but their arms brush together.

Buddie + Time Travel AU

(I know this is supposed to be five facts but I'm breaking the rules and writing a snippet instead!)

Eddie sighs when he sees Buck, a sight for sore eyes after three days of radio silence. Maddie told them what happened; showed up at the office in a panic. Apparently the family secret was out, and Eddie is still seething thinking about it.

He was born to try and save his brother.

It's one thing to ask a kid you already have to go through a bone marrow donation to save their sibling, but to have another kid just for the purpose? To put an infant through a procedure like that? And then for his parents to have treated him the way they did all his life... to never truly want him...

Eddie has to take a few breaths to cool down.

Anyway, they work for a time protection agency, so Buck has access to time travel. His unexplained three day absence was concerning, but when Maddie showed up and explained the mental state he might be in... yeah, it turned into a man-hunt through time real quick.

Didn't take long, fortunately. Buck's predictable.

Eddie ducks under the branch of a parking lot tree, letting his feet crunch down on fallen leaves and twigs, enough that Buck turns and looks over his shoulder.

"1992?" Eddie asks as he draws closer to the curb Buck is sitting on. "You know '91 carried less risk, right? Baby you's not around yet to run into."

Buck hums, but he waits until Eddie's lowered himself next to him to speak.

"How long I been gone?"

Eddie shrugs. "Three days."

Buck looks at him, surprised, and he shrugs again.

"Pinned your courier to two days before this. Figured if you were making us worry three days, least I could do is let you wallow the same."

Buck chuckles, and it's quiet.

Eddie takes in his profile, illuminated by the streetlight. There are no tears glistening on his cheeks, but his eyes are shimmering with sadness. His heart twists - both with anger and with pain.

"You know you can't fix this." He says, he has to say it. "Twenty-eight years doesn't make you any more of a donor."

"I know." Buck says, "I... The timeline would turn to a mess anyway."

There's a confession in that; that Buck at least considered traveling to the distant future and getting his hands on a possible cure. They didn't flag his courier anywhere else though; he didn't go.

"I just..." Buck goes on, his hands wringing together. "I had to know."

"Had to know what?" Eddie asks, "What, you think the doctor was wrong when he said you weren't a match?"

"No." Buck answers, his voice rock steady despite his rocking body. "I had to know him."

Oh.

Eddie doesn't know how to respond to that at first. He can picture it all too clearly; Buck stealing some scrubs and a lab coat, knocking on the door of his brother's hospital room, making small talk and doing everything it is that Buck does when confronted with a child. He'd ask about his favorite color, his hobbies, maybe if he has a crush at school.

"He liked comic books." Buck says, his voice soft, his eyes far off. "And Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He wanted to be an astronaut."

Buck smiles at that, and so Eddie allows himself permission to do the same. But then Buck's face falls.

"I asked him about his siblings... asked how he liked his new brother. He... He said he cries a lot."

Eddie chuckles, he can't help it.

"Pretty sure most kids feel that way about new babies."

He's trying to lighten the mood, but it doesn't work.

"He said he cries because he hurt." Buck goes on, "Because 'mom and dad had him try and save me, and the operation hurts'."

Oh.

"I tried to tell him is was ok." Buck goes on. "That his brother would get better. He just said Maddie told him the same thing; that she takes care of 'him'."

Again, it take significant control for Eddie to keep his blood pressure from rising to noticeable levels. Apparently the Buckley's were ready to wash their hands of Buck right out the gate, and even sick little Daniel could see it.

Screw restraint.

He reaches over and puts his arm around Buck, guiding his friend to lean his head into his shoulder.

"I'm sorry Buck." He says, "I'm sorry."

Buck sniffles against him, and they sit like that for a long time, silently, on the curb of a parking lot in 1992, until Hen finally comes to get them.

I really need to get back to my writing - I've had too many other things going on to get much done recently (looking at you unexpected costume meta!!)

Anyway I hope you enjoy this chapter - its the aftermath of the recital and Buck is not in his parents good books (not that he ever has been!

Excerpt below!

The next morning, Buck wakes early, his sleep had been fitful as his brain processed everything that had happened but he feels clearer and more sure of himself in the morning light. He might still be dreading having to face his parents and their disappointment in him, but he is glad they chose to ignore him for the night. It gave him the chance to go over things and he has reached a point where he no longer wants the need for their approval to dictate his life. 

The remembrances of how intense the pleasure he had been experiencing in the moments before he had been exposed have pushed themselves to the front of his mind and, while he would’ve preferred not to be caught and recognised, he had been cavalier in agreeing to hooking up in such a public place. He doesn’t see why he should let the disapproval of those who will never accept him dictate his life and keep him from the things that make him feel alive and happy.

Buck rises from his bed feeling settled and more sure of himself. Even though it’s early, he calls for hot water and while he waits, pulls out his clothes for the day, laying them on the bed before crossing to the window to watch as servants running early morning errands pass by beneath him on the street. 

Hot water finally arriving, Buck goes though his morning ablutions and dresses himself before descending one flight of stairs and crossing to Daniels door, tapping lightly before gently opening it and slipping inside. He wants and needs to talk to his brother before his parents get a chance to send him away.

Daniel is propped up in his bed, awake and reading, but looking wan and exhausted. 

‘Daniel.’ Buck says softly ‘you don’t look well, perhaps you should go back to sleep.’

Daniel puts the book down and shakes his head. ‘I’m fine, just tired from last night.’ He pauses to study Buck before continuing,  ‘You’ll need to go to Teignmouth's this morning on your own, I’m not going to be up for it.’ Buck tries to protest, saying they can cancel it and go another day, that Teignmouth would understand, but Daniel insists.

‘You need to go. I insist. You need to talk to him before our parents get involved.’ At Bucks slightly baffled look he presses on ‘You need to break off whatever it is you have going on with him, he’s bad news and I don’t want him to destroy you any more than he already has.’

Buck splutters ‘How? How did you… How do you know about me and Teignmouth?’

‘You think Mother and Father were the only ones to see you?’ he stated before adding ‘Plus Mother couldn’t stop wailing about it and how it would no doubt lead to the family’s ruin in the carriage home.’

I thought I'd start with my personal "do not wants" to get them out of the way. I don't want: non-con, dubious consent, infedelity, suicide, adult/minor au, pregnancy, split personality as a trope, or slave-fic (though I do understand that the clones would be considered slaves, so fics that tackle that are okay).

I'm okay with but do not prefer: explicit content in general (mature is fine, I'm just pretty picky with explicit stuff because I'm ace), unhappy endings, A/B/O, cannibalism, or permanent character death. Also I have a weird trigger with cockroaches.

I was tagged by @honestlydarkprincess and @spotsandsocks , however I'm not doing Seven Sentence Sunday today for the simple reason that I've bitten the bullet and actually posted the first chapter of my time travel AU!!!!

Buck was bored. 

The flickering light from two hundred candles bounced off the pier glasses that lined the ballroom creating a warm glow as the crush of bodies of the elite of Bath society danced before him, and Buck was bored. He was also depressed and trying desperately to hide it from the world. The Buckley family might’ve come to Bath for Daniels health, but Buck was relived to escape London and the whispered gossiping that had followed him after Miss Clark had left. 

Miss Clark’s, Abby’s, decision to leave for the continent had created a flurry of rumours about why she had gone when Buck had been on the verge of ignoring his parents disapproval and making her an offer of marriage. He had never been able to gain their approval in anything previously and she had made him feel alive and seen for the first time. Seen as a person and not as the failure spare, the pale imitation born incase his older and beloved brother died. 

Maddie and Daniel, had been the only ones to see him as a person. As more than an insurance policy for their fathers dynastic aspirations. But they were his siblings, so when Abby had come into his life, bright and unknowing of his past and the reason he existed, Buck had fallen, and fallen hard. When she had suddenly left him to travel the continent and find herself, he had been glad to escape from London, but he was finding Bath to be full of the same gossiping busybodies at the same uninteresting society events he had hoped to escape and so, he was bored.
