Buck (and Eddie) mini meta - 7x10 (probably but could also be 7x09!)
I was going to make a quick post about this new shirt we have bts pictures of Buck and Eddie wearing - but well, I spiralled and it turned into this!! (under the cut to save your dash!)
So let's do Eddie first shall we!!
there are actually two shirts we've got bts of Eddie wearing which have me 👀👀👀
first up is this green number we have bts of him wearing at the firehouse (not 100% sure if this is an actual costume or just Ryan's clothes but I'm fairly sure it's an Eddie outfit!)
Why am I side eyeing so hard at this do you ask? well its a very similar shirt to the one we have seen him in before - in 5x13 when he has his break down. Its not the same, but similar - no cut off sleeves, but its the same army green.
We see this tee at he culmination of Eddie isolating himself from the fire fam (especially Buck) through the start of 5b and then blowing up his life in 5x13 - when he trashes his room and Chris calls Buck.
I think we're about to see something similar play out in the last couple of episodes of season 7 - Eddie increasingly choosing to isolate himself from the fire fam (especially Buck) as he spirals out with this vertigo arc. Ryan has said in interviews that Eddie will be isolated by the end of the season, this costume therefore parallels Eddies arc of 5b - especially if we include the use of white on Eddie as well (and Buck in Blue in the same scene!). Eddie does something drastic and then pretends everything is ok - before proceeding to spiral out and blow up his life in some way.
5x11 - we have the aftermath of Eddie leaving he 118 - dinner with Buck and Taylor when he and Buck have a mini disagreement about Eddie coming back to work - which is preceeded by us being shown how Eddie is not actually ok - leading in to 5x13 when Eddie has his breakdown whilst wearing an army green tee and Buck breaks down the door to get to him and literally steps in to the mess, bringing the 118 into help as well (represented by Bobby being there when Eddie wakes up).
Then we have season 7 - the aftermath of Eddie asking Marisol to move in with him and then it is made clear that Eddie has moved too fast, that he doesn't actually know Marisol, or ultimately feel comfortable with the relationship - and now we've watched him (still in white in the scene where he sees Kim) spiralling out and heading towards isolating himself in the same way he did in season 5. The use of a similar army green tee in 7x10 suggests that we're going to see something similar unfold as things come to a head in the vertigo arc. Im especially intrigued because Buck it seems is going to be in uniform for the scene (which side note plays into the Buck and Eddie blue green colour palette they've been using and in a reverse of the gym scene from 7x05!) we don't know where in the episode this scene falls, but my guess would be that its actually a scene from earlier in the episode - allowing for the blow up to happen and the fall out begin. (I also think this because of Helena and Ramon appearing - which I think will be later in the episode and in response to Kim's existence being more widely known about, but thats just me speculating!)
We do also have the t-shirt from 7x01 - which is not the same as the other two - its darker and more brownish than the two above, but it does play into a similar narrative - Eddie finding out about Chris and his multiple girlfriends and Buck stepping in (at Eddies request this time) to help and support the Diaz boys!
Eddie outfit two!
Then we have this outfit - which is contrary to popular belief, not the will reveal outfit, but actually the Ana as Eddies girlfriend reveal to Chris outfit.
The two outfits are very similar, but the will reveal outfit is a navy blue shirt (which is important as it plays into both blue/green and blue/yellow theory - which gains even more significance now we know that it is likely this was meant to be the beginning of at the very least a queer narrative for Buck and the implication is that it would've been the beginning of buddie canon) this shirt and the Ana reveal shirt are both black and have silver eyelets on the shirt opening
For me, the fact that it is the same outfit as that reveal rather than the will reveal is suggestive that this outfit is in some way going to be connected to the reveal of Kim. In the same way that the Ana reveal outfit is connected to two scenes
- Eddie telling Chris and the salad bowl getting smashed,
- Eddie realising Chris has gone missing only to find out he's run to Buck's
I feel like this one is also likely to be connected to two scenes - what they are and where this hospital scene fits within the wider episode, it is hard to fully form ideas on the full meaning behind the fact that he is wearing the same outfit. Because does this scene come before or after the arrival of Helena and Ramon, what is the connection to Bobby being in the hospital and Eddie wearing this outfit? My personal opiion is that this outfit is going to be involved in people finding out about Kim.
As an addition to this, we should also talk about the fact that Eddie always wears black in relation to key scenes with Marisol and Kim and it continues a trend of Eddie wearing black in key scenes in relation to his relationships.
When Eddie and Marisol meet at the hardware store he is in black, when asking her to move back out, black shirt. Then with Kim -both scenes with her when he talks to her he is in black - black shirt in the store and a black jacket when they go on their date.
He was also wearing Black in key moments with Shannon (divorce request scene as well as in flashbacks) and with Ana ( first meeting and panic attack scenes). I've spoken before about the choice to put him in a black singlet when he's in an emotionally vulnerable place, but with these additional scenes in mind, as well as the fact that we see him wearing black in the hospital during Bucks coma, as well as the fact we also get a similar shirt on Eddie back in 7x01.
I think its fair to associate black more generally with Eddie being in a vulnerable place emotionally - the singlets are just worn at points when those vulnerable moments are about to tip Eddie into something stupid and this makes the use of the singlet in 7x04 for the basketball game even more interesting as it places Eddie into emotional vulnerability around Bucks bi journey and less about Bucks own emotional vulnerability - plays a little into the idea that they were going to have Eddies queer journey come before Bucks!
From a purely speculative position - my feeling is that this outfit comes after the arrival of Helena and Ramon and possibly towards the end of the episode.
The fact Eddie is wearing it at the hospital is possibly important, but I get the feeling it will be an outfit with more than one key scene attached to it (much like Eddie being in a black shirt when Buck came out to him was in two key scenes - Bucks coming out and Eddie asking Marisol to move out).
In the same way that in season 4 the Ana reveal was paired with a scene where Chris runs to Buck my feeling is that we're going to see something similar in season 7 with this - further adding to the parallels between the two seasons (see this excellent post by @iinryer for more on those!).
Part of my thinking comes from the fact we had this other bts of Buck, Eddie, Chris and Helena and Ramon. So we know that Eddie will be wearing a maroon henley for a scene in this episode.
I've spoken about Eddie wearing maroon long sleeved tops in relation to things being about Chris and Eddie parenting, and this one is likely to follow that theme, especially with Chis seemingly wearing the same outfit he was wearing when the fact he had multiple girlfriends was revealed.
The fact that buck is in a reverse outfit to the one from his discussion with Chris after that reveal (navy blue bottoms and yellow ochre top v yellow ochre bottoms and navy blue top), suggests to me that the are trying to do a couple of things here - they are flipping the scene - so it is still about a multiple girlfriends reveal, just Eddies rather than Christophers. It is also possibly a way to contrast the fact they set up Buck as sitting in parallel to Shannon (from both a costuming and directorial perspective), now they are reversing it and setting them in juxtaposition with one another - playing on the concept of one being alive while the other is dead and contrasting the actual reality of Eddies life with Eddies rose tinted version of things - the version he's trying to recreate with a doppelgänger.
Onto Buck
The shirt that changes colour depending on which picture you look at - is it brown and cream or dark greyish brown and blue/grey?!!
My personal feeling is that it will look more brown and cream on camera, but that we might see a little bit of the blue pinstripe come through! This means we need to not only look at Buck in pinstripes, but also when he has worn brown!
So lets look at when we've seen Buck wear brown!
We have 2x05 - a scene where Maddie is ranting about Gloria calling her constantly. In this scene Buck is in a brown marl tee (you'll have to take my word for it - I ran out of pictures and this one was the least important!), personally I don't think it fits into the narrative as it is a tee rather than a shirt or jacket, so I'm not including it in my wider anaylsis!
We get Brown sports jacket Buck - in 3x04 when he delivers the results of the 118's assessment and discovers Lena filing his space - Buck gets jealous and a little mad. (had to include the still where Edie is checking out Bucks ass because it will never not be funny and now has the added layers to it`!)
one episode later and we get more brown in the divorced buddie era 1.0 supermarket arguement of 3x05.
Things go quiet on the brown front for Buck until 4x14 and the 'it would've been better if it had been me who got shot' scene - this is is a borderline brown - it sits in the yellow ochre spectrum, but is closer to brown than yellow! This, like the last tine he wore brown, comes in the aftermath of Buck doing something stupid (climbing the crane)
Then Buck doesn't wear any brown in season 5, so its on to season 6 where we have 6x04 and this russet brown (which is a reddish brown) which Buck wears when Connor pays him a visit regarding the sperm donation.
Then later in the same season - 6x18 - we have the most recent Buck in brown sighting - when he is talking to Connor once more about Kameron being at his loft. with the added bonus of this being veritcally ribbed making it look like stripes!
As you can see we only see Buck wear brown in very specific moments and they tend to come in pairs - we get bright russety browns in the build up to Buck doing something stupid followed by a darker more muddy brown in the aftermath (in both s2 and s6). Only the one from season 4 doesn't fit the pattern as it doesn't have a pair.
But while events in seasons 3 and six are essentially of Bucks making - he sets things in motion - season 4 is not - Buck is not the instigator, he is a bystander dropped into the middle of something, if anything the fact his brown has yellowish undertones plays into its having a reverse effect - that it is the same as the russet browns - setting something in motion, but its pair is the brighter yellow ochre shirt from the will reveal - which sits in opposition to the darker browns - its not something Buck needs or wants to try and fix - its more of an affirmation of Bucks belonging and not something he needs to fight for.
I've spoken before in various meta's about brown being a colour of stability support and protection. it is also a colour of wisdom and counsel - and I think all of these will come into play with this new shirt in some capacity, because to put Buck in brown at this point is definitely a choice with intention behind it.
Now onto Buck in vertical stripes!
We'll do the light ones first. It's still insane to me that the first time we ever see Buck in vertical stripes is the shooting scene in 4x13.
Then ten episodes later, in 5x13 we see the next white striped shirt and its when Taylor is moving into the loft. These are the only two we have in a white and black/grey colour way.
The next time we see light stripes is in 6x01 - only now they are cream and blue rather than white and black/grey - when Buck moves his armchair and decides he doesn't need a couch .
Followed by 6x08 when Buck is in Uncle Buck mode and looking after Jee and being given the run around by her - again cream and blue.
The last Buck in light shirts with stripes sighting is from 7x05 - when he meets with Tommy for coffee, this time its cream with black and red stripes.
Then we have a couple of outliers - this light blue jacket from 6x01
and this grey one from 6x09
Then we have the dark ones!
This one from 4x14 when Taylor appears back on his doorstep after the shooting and kissing him
This one from 5x09 - the most awkward 'I love you' scene in the history of mankind
6x04 when he tells Conor and Kameron that he will be their sperm donor
in 6x07 we get two - both when he is trying to donate sperm and not being successful in this endeavour
in 6x17 we see him in this shirt when Maddie comes by for help with getting her stuck engagement ring off
and finally we have Buck and Tommys first date - which ends in failure.
and now we have a brown and cream/blue one joining the mix!
I've written before about Bucks vertically striped shirts - in various episode metas, as well as a separate post which is linked on my pinned post under Buck, But I'm going to talk about them again because he just keeps on wearing them at really interesting moments!
Buck seems to wear them at moments when he is essentially ‘imprisoned’ by something mentally - at moments when he either steps forwards or backwards in his self development, or stays in stasis - and which of these it is, is determined by the colour of the shirt and the stripes. The lighter ones are connected to moving forward and ultimately escaping, while the darker ones are about Buck being trapped and moving in the wrong direction.
Starting with the white shirts - I know on the face of it, it isn't easy to see either of the white shirts with black pinstripes as Buck moving forward, but while the scenes they are worn in themselves may not seem to be freeing, the resulting actions - the will reveal for the first one and the second one reveals Bucks true thoughts on his and Taylors relationship and thus marks the beginning of the end, I mean obviously the kiss is the actual moment that marks the beginning of the end but this moment - when he is talking to Maddie, the audience is made aware that Buck really and truly isn't all in with Taylor and that he has imprisoned himself - his ability to recognise that - the fact he is able to verbalise that he is afraid of being left - that is the moment of growth and escape for him.
The unhappy moments, the moments when he is regressing or clinging are signified by the black shirts with white or silver pinstripes.
With Taylor the two scenes we get black shirts with pinstripes are connected to Buck being in trauma response mode - the first in the aftermath of the shooting - starting a relationship when he's in a super raw place - his best friend has been shot and he's looking after said best friends son and climbing cranes to try and protect the rest of his found family (also adding Maddie's impending PPD to this as well as the Daniel of it all although those are less central in this moment in time).
Then the second one comes in the 'I kinda love you for it' scene - and off the back of Buck feeling and fearing that he is being left - that Taylor is pulling away from him.
The three all connected to the sperm donation all play into the narrative that Buck hasn't thought the sperm donation through fully - that the universe is screaming at him and he's trapping himself in a prison - we do see some of that play out as the season progresses when he becomes embroiled in Conor and Kameron's marriage and pregnancy dramas when his part in it all should've been done.
The scene with the stuck ring is a scene very much about Maddie but Buck does drop himself in it on two fronts - the ring cutter and in letting Maddie know that Hen and Chim had an arguement over Chim proposing to Maddie.
Buck and Tommys first date - again a prison of Bucks own making - this shirt very much plays into the disastrous nature of the date - with Bucks 'I'm and Ally' and comment about going to 'find chicks'
Then we have the shirts that somewhere in the middle. - the blue one from 6x01 where we have a Buck doing some mental self torture trying to work out why he’s been passed over for the interim Captain job but finally figuring it out,
The three cream ones are all essentially the cure for the previous, darker stripes - they play into the idea that Buck is learning and growing - in a way he wasn't when it was just black and white shirts and stripes from seasons 4 and 5 when we got a white shirt followed soon after by a black shirt (4x13 - White - 4x14 - black) or vice versa (5x09 - black - 5x13 - white).
We have 6x01 with the blue then cream - Buck in a mental prison around what he wants in life, but choosing to embrace being on his own and seeing where life takes him by the end of the episode. 6x04 and 6x07's navy blues connected to the sperm donation arc followed by 6x08's cream and blue one of the very real children in his life - one who he gets to be an active part of watching grow up. 7x04's navy date shirt one followed by 7x05's cream, black and red shirt when Buck requests and is granted a do over with Tommy
So how is this brown and cream one going to fit in? Well that is the million $$$$ question isn't it! My feelings are that it's going to fit in with the pattern and have a reverse one to go with it. Now I have two theories - the first is that its actually the brown pair to the one from season 4 - that its going to connect into Buck's statement that it would've been better for Chris if he'd been the one hurt - and therefore connect into the will of it all, playing on the concept of Chris (and Buck) finding out about Kim - connecting Eddies outfit into the equation - and lead to Buck once again stepping up to look after or support Chris in some capacity (maybe we'll get a parallel of Chris running to Buck after finding out about Ana and have Chris running to Buck after finding out about Kim, who knows!).
The other option is that we'll only see the pair to this brown striped shirt later down the line - whether we see that before the end of the season or have to wait for the start of season 8 I do't know - it really depends on how they close out this season and the Buck and Eddie arcs.
I'd like to think the fact that its brown and therefore means stability, support, protection and wisdom, means that it will be connected to Buck discovering Eddies cheating and then stepping up to support him and Chris through the fall out (after perhaps taking a moment to consider things) and that it is tied into the season 4 parallels, but I guess we'll all have to wait and see!
Essentially all of Bucks striped and or brown tops have a pair and play on the idea of light and dark to varying degrees as well as the concept of being trapped or imprisoned by some form of traumatic event.
Hopefully this makes sense and that you've enjoyed reading this deep dive into Bucks stripes and Eddies wearing of black! I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Making this its own post to further spread the correct information.
The name Mickey Mouse is Public Domain.
Trademark is a separate thing from copyright. Trademark means you can't trick people into thinking your version of Mickey Mouse is sanctioned by Disney.
You do not need to rename Mickey Mouse to use this character.
He's literally named in the title card (along with two alternate outfits for him and Minnie that are also Public Domain, which means, yes! You can give him gloves!).
The only way the name "Mickey Mouse" would still be copyrighted would be if he hadn't been named yet in Steamboat Willie, which very clearly isn't the case, because his name is the largest thing on the title card:
[ID: A screenshot from the Web Archive’s video player showing the video paused at 00:04, showing the title card that reads:
“Disney Cartoons presents A Mickey Mouse sound cartoon: Steambie Willie, A Walt Disney comic by UB Iwerks, recorded by Cinephone system, copyright MCMXXVIII”.
On either side of the text are Mickey and Minnie, smiling at eachother. Mickey is holding up a hat in one hand, and a cane in the other with a wide grin of greeting. He has a white face, a buck tooth in his open mouth, white gloves, and light grey shoes and shorts, with the shorts having dark buttons and darker vertical stripes. Minnie has her hands clasped as she smiles at Mickey with lowered eyelids in a flirting pose. She has the same hat as mickey, with a flower stick behind it. She has two circles on her chest like a bra or bow, with a polkadot skirt with a wavy edge. She is wearing light grey heels. End ID.]
There is also a public domain poster with color, which means this design is also Public Domain. And again, this one also names him Mickey Mouse -- making the name Mickey Mouse Public Domain! And this alone would have made the name Public Domain even if he hadn't been named in Steamboat Willie! And, he again has gloves!
[ID: A color poster reading, "Celebrity Productions Inc. Present a Mickey Mouse Sound Cartoon. A Walt Disney comic drawn by UB Iwerks. The World's Funniest cartoon character, a sensation in sound and synchrony.". Mickey is drawn with one hand on his hip and the other in the air. He is wearing yellow gloves with a button in the center of the palm, red pants with white buttons, and large brown boots. He has a red blush on his nose and cheek. His tongue is red, and his black pupils have a white triangle on the side. The background is pale tan. End ID.]
There is also literally nothing stopping anyone from giving any of these characters new color designs with entirely new outfits. That's what the Public Domain is for. Don't think you can only use these characters in black and white, you just can't use versions that Disney still owns the copyright to.

well. just noticed something about Steamboat Willie I don't think anyone else has pointed out yet...
let me make it easier to see
Edit:
Uhh, well hard to really make it easier, but here's with a little bit more contrast and brightness.
This is the title card for Steamboat Willie, showing Mickey with an alternative outfit! Striped pants, white gloves, a cane and a hat! Minnie gets the same hat, heels, and a polka dot skirt!
These designs are also public domain because they're in Steamboat Willie!
You can watch it here on the web archive. and on youtube. and probably lots of other places at this point.
[ID: A screenshot from the Web Archive's video player showing the video paused at 00:04, showing the title card that reads, "Disney Cartoons presents A Mickey Mouse sound cartoon: Steambie Willie, A Walt Disney comic by UB Iwerks". The rest of the text is blurrier, but seems to say, "recorded by cinephone system, copyright [illegible]". She has two circles on her chest like a bra or bow, with a polkadot skirt with a wavy edge. She is wearing light grey heels. End ID.]
Edit 2:
Here's some slightly more cleaned up versions from MS Paint!
[ID: the same versions of Mickey and Minnie mouse, now with the background solid gray so they are easier to see. End ID.]
Made lineart and colored it for fun. You can download them here from the web archive :)
[ID: Two more versions of Mickey and Minnie shown above. One is just black and white lineart, the other has color added. They both have light green shoes, tan and black hats, and purple with grey accented clothes. Mickey's cane is tan, Minnie's flower is light purple. End ID.]

I'm just loving how everyone wants buck to have a nde that parallels the shooting (was he wearing white then? My memory is fuzy) and yes I'm one of those people lol.
Tim Minear we are in your walls, we see what your up too!
It's crazy how everyone is shouting out loud 'shoot Buck', 'shoot Eddie', 'shoot them both', 'make them have a car crash' ... 😁
Imagine the conversation with a non-fandom person:
What? Oh yes! Buck and Eddie are definitely our favourite characters. Very much so. Why do we wish death upon them so often? Well... because it's fun!?
😆😆😆
But yeah, Buck was wearing a white shirt with vertical stripes when Eddie got shot. So there is that. 👀👀👀👀👀

ANOTHER THING. KIM WEARING THAT VERTICAL STRIPE POLO AND BUCK IS IN VERTICAL STRIPED SHIRTS SO OFTEN
I WAS TRYING SO HARD TO FIND BUCK AND HIS FUCKING STRIPED SHIRTS WHEN TUMBLR SAID NO MORE PICS ANYWAYS
Like this is the one I found first but I feel like there are wayy closer ones
These feel mean to use but they are the closest^^^
Omg trying to find more examples I got two things for you:
Kim and Eddie’s conversation and their outfits there^^^
Buck and Eddie’s post therapy conversation and their outfits there + the misunderstood the assignment moment
Also a visual heartbreaking reminder of both buck and Kim being stand ins for dead people and being told through photos and buck at first thinking it’s him not Daniel and Kim saying if she didn’t know any better she’d think it was her ^^^
Also tagging @maygrcnt again so she doesn’t miss any of our trio’s spiral

I would love a meerca review! One of my earliest disappointments in life was waking up to find my adorable meerca standing on two feet with a shortened tail and one fist raised to the skies. Of all Neopets I feel like you’d be hard pressed to think of one that was done a greater disservice by conversion than the meerca.
Meercas are one of a only a few rodent 'pets, and between them, the Xweektok, and the Usul, Meercas definitely come across as the most rodent-esq—though which rodent is somewhat ambiguous. I like their faces a lot, which sport little dot eyes and a set of buck teeth.
The Meercas big theme and uniqueness comes from their tails. It's harder to tell with the converted art (which we'll get to shortly), but Meercas have incredibly long tails that they use to balance on. It's a fun premise that gives them a lot of personality, especially when combined with their round bodies.
Beyond that, Meercas have a good use of color, which white around the bulk the body, under their tails, and in their ears. My only nitpick is that in the converted art, the color underneath the tail bleeds a bit onto the outside, which isn't too big of a deal but always low-key bugs me.
Customization-wise, Meercas were unfortunately done pretty dirty. I'm not sure I can call them the worst case of conversion, because to be fair, conversion kind of requires all pets to be standing normally and to have a fist when possible. The issue is more with the entire premise of customization itself, but I'm not going to blame a converted pet for, well, being converted.
The Meerca at least doesn't change that much about the body at random the way the Wocky or Lutari did, and the old art was starting to look very dated, with minimal shading and some kind of janky anatomy. I also like how the converted version did things like remove the little hairs from the top of the head.
However, what I can't excuse with the converted Meerca is the absolute butchering of their tails. The entire point of this species is that their tails are stupidly long. Even if customization means they can't sit on their tails anymore, they could've at least kept the length, as it was the key element of the design. Maybe the concern was trying to keep the pet itself fairly centered, but like... have the tail curled up against the body, have it go vertically up above the body, fold it over on itself, there were tons of ways to keep the length. Unfortunately none of that was done, and we ended up with a sadder Meerca as a result.
Favorite Colours:
Candy: It's a gumball with those sour belt candies! It's absolutely perfect for the species, utilizing both their long tails and gumball bodies beautifully. The shading on the body is also richly detailed and gives it that extra bit of gumball shine, and the colors are nice and cohesive. Good stuff all around.
Striped: One of only two striped pets that doesn't default to being blue with pink stripes, the striped Meerca is a chipmunk, applying some lovely brown shades and lots and lots of stripes but stylizing them just enough to fit the body shape. I also like little details, like removing the outline around the white part of the body.
Woodland: Similar to the candy Meerca, the woodland Meerca takes full advantage of the round body and long tail to make it into a taro, a type of root vegetable. While its very different than most woodland pets, the tail works perfect and the body has lots of attention to detail.
BONUS: Maraquan Meercas, while not the best Maraquan pets, have to get at least a shout-out for the fun pufferfish concept. I do wish there was more color, maybe on the fins (I know pufferfish aren't known for having a ton of color, but this is a fantasy creature first and foremost), but the overall idea is very fun and it's one of the only ways to get the old Meerca expression post-customization. The converted and UC/styled version are literally identical save for the customized version sporting fists, which aren't as good at the original's hands but aren't too bothersome.

Oh boy
The. Shirt!
Let me be unhinged for a moment
Ok according to @stagefoureddiediaz the Buck wearing vertical stripes theory suggests that when he wears them he's emotionally compromised and it's linked to the shooting
May I say
Buck breakdown!!!
May I say
Finally fucking talking about the shooting
May I say
Eddie admitting that the shooting was his oh moment
It's also about him making stupid choices and maybe Eddie finally tells him that
That he is making another stupid choice
And thus Buddie fallout
It's also from ep5 that's why I think it's Buddie related
With the titles of 4 & 5 and all
But also "You don't know me"...
Buck doesn't know himself? Buck brings up a side of him the others don't know? (*cough cough* bi Buck)
Eddie admitting his feelings but then be like... But you're not into guys and Buck being like... Who said that
This is also the dating location isn't it?
Buck has a date with a man!!
But the damn wrong one
Yes this is probably more wishful thinking than anything else
But one thing I'm sure of
Something big is gonna happen with Buck's life and the shirt is part of it
#Evan buckley#Buddie#911 abc#costume meta#911 spoilers#S7#S7 spec#I can't tell you how much I want this to be about the shooting#About them fucking finally talking about it#And at this point I'm convinced we're getting bi Buck

for anon! the top three stripes are colors i associate with slime and the bottom half of the flag represents a bucket. the term is 'sli' from 'slime', 'bucke' from 'bucket', + 'escrib' from 'describe'!

AN ~ how did this hit 1000wd? i'm just so happy for him!!!!!
Hen & Buck celebrate Pride. with a side of Karen my wife
for a kiss on the cheek
also on AO3
-
Mara runs ahead of them in the crowd, with little mesh fairy wings bobbing around on her back matching Jee-Yun who runs along beside her.
“Mom says not too far!” Denny calls after them, then looks back at his moms. “Hey, can we get icecream?”
“Excuse me?”
He pulls a face, exasperated. “Can we get icecream, please?”
Hen and Karen share a look. A your son's fourteen years is showing. But they can't help but smile; he's still their son, and even if he slips up on his ps and qs he still wants to include his sister and baby cousin a good time and that's the more important thing.
“Of course, yes,” Hen agrees, and digs into her bag. “Let me just find the -”
“Icecream?” pipes a voice from behind. “Hey, Uncle Buck's got this one.”
He hands over some notes as he catches back up from where he was lingering at one of the stalls.
“Hey now,” Hen warns, once Denny has said his thank yous and bounded out of ear shot, “they don't dip the stuff in gold, you know.”
“Uncle Buck better slow down now that he's got four kids hitting up his wallet,” Karen adds.
“Eh. Uncle Buck's feeling festive.” He can't wipe the smile off his face. It's like his heart is beating out of his chest with it and he can't stand still. “You know, I've been to Fair Day before, but I haven't been before. It's a lot. It's kinda crazy. All the different names and flags and stuff – how did you guys pick one?”
Hen isn't dressed particularly flag-y today; just dark shorts and a grey tank top with GIRLS printed across it in varying shades of pink. Karen on the other hand, has decked herself out in a brown blouse and a maxi skirt with varying pink rings that scream walking lesbian pride flag. It looks so natural for them, and fun, and well, if Buck's going to be doing this every year as a card carrying Member Of The Community, he'd like to dress the part. So far he's found a button up in thick vertical rainbow stripes that hangs open over his white tee shirt. It's a fun selection. But there's so much here and so many people having fun with it – they're on stilts! they're on enamel pins! they're everywhere! - it makes him want to cover his house and his car and everything he owns in the stuff.
Hen and Karen smile. They remember what it was like and for Buck, finding out older, and when there's more options with more visibility behind them than ever, and especially being Buck, king of the 4am wiki rabbit hole, the feeling must be even more intense.
“Don't overthink it, Buckaroo,” Hen advises. She pulls him over to a nearby stall, advertising face painting to raise money for rural queer mental health outreach. There's a big board of an array of flags, and little buckets with enamel pins and temporary pun-heavy tattoos. “The big secret is: everyone will try and argue about it forever. That's the double edged sword of community. You know what all these mean, right?”
“Most of them, yeah.”
“Yeah. And you know you've always got old reliable.” She gestures toward the top row of the board, which feature the classic Pride flag, the Philidelphia and the Progress flags. “But if you want to get more specific – what does your gut tell you?”
“That one.”
It's the one he has saved at the top of his tabs list. The one his eye has been drawn back to all day. He's been reading definitions on definitions on definitions and each one only seems to fit better than the last. Of course, it's that one.
“But what if it's wrong? What if it changes?”
“Then... you're out ten dollars, some kid in Alturas gets some help, and you know yourself better.”
“It's that easy, huh?”
“Hey.” Hen shrugs. “You're the one who invited your first gay kiss to your sisters wedding. Seems like you're rolling with the punches pretty well. Wanna do it?”
“Okay!” The irrepressible smile is back, and Hen finds herself beaming back at him.
“Okay!” she cheers, and turns to the attendant. “Andrea, hey! Can we get some bi flag paint for my friend here, please?”
“And you owe her for some lesbian hearts for your beautiful wife,” Karen points out, batting her eyelids to show off the trail painted up her cheek.
“Good choice,” Andrea says. She flicks her hair back over her shoulder and it's painfully flirtatious, the way she drags her eyes over him. Andrea has a bi flag of her own painted on one cheek, and gems in the colours of the rainbow on the other, highlighting her wicked cheekbones. She's got long, beautiful mahogany hair and she's tall and toned and yeah, he's most definitely still into women. Buck preens a little as she sets to work – he can't help it; he doesn't maintain this not to show it off just a little. Even if he can feel Hen and Karen rolling their eyes at him just out of sight.
When she's finished, Andrea holds a little mirror up for him to see and yeah, it just feels right. Then she turns him around to present him back to them and they look so goddamn happy for him he might cry. They might cry. Somebody might cry.
They grab each others' hands fiercely instead.
“Can we take a photo?”
Yes, please yes! He nods. Karen pulls out her phone but Hen beats her to it, and at the same time slings her free arm around him and pulls his face down to kiss his empty cheek. She snaps a selfie of the both of them.
She sends it to him later, a link to her Instagram post. It's captioned: Welcome to the family. PROUD of you Buck. And three hearts – pink, purple, blue.

Hamuel Burger Episode 3 is Up so I'm Making a Post About That
Psst. Hey you! Yes, you. Who else would I be talking to? You seem like an individual of discerning taste and questionable morals. I couldn't help but notice your ears look kind of hungry. Wouldn't you like to fill them with an ice cold, legally acquired podcast?
Here. Take a peek.
What's with the suspicious look? You don't want my podcast? It's not ice cold at all, you say, but instead suspiciously warm? Listen, buddy. I've had this computer for a long time. Its hinges are achey and its keyboard is dusty and it can't run Audacity without threatening to explode. But while the podcast may be a little warm, it's still a good honest podcast, y'hear? I put hours of hard work into that podcast. I missed the birth of my seventh daughter just to finish editing in all the bassoon sound effects. Won't you give it a listen for me?
Hey. No. What are you implying? That the fact I specified that it was legally acquired was in itself suspicious? That you don't trust anything loaded onto an unmarked CD, then stuffed into a loose plastic bag with "potcats" written on the front in permanent marker? That I'm clearly wearing a striped shirt and a balaclava, the uniform of ne'er do wells and privacy-conscious mimes? Would it help if I told you the stripes were vertical, not horizontal? Fine. Whatever. I didn't make this podcast at all. I found it in a bush somewhere and I thought I could sell it to you for a quick buck. Here, you can have it for free if you don't tell the cops.
Ha! It's yours now! No takesie-backsies! You're stuck with this podcast for life. Good luck paying for its college tuition!

Trick or Treat! 🧟♀️
You're the treat! ❤️❤️❤️
But that's a little trick for you!
****
'Bobby, what's about your costume?', - Athena laughs, putting the last jack-o'-lantern on the table.
'I'm a Christmas decoration.', - he's trying to be serious but not that he's good at this: 'You see, I have lights and ornaments and mistletoe.'
'I see. And did you see the date? It's Halloween'
'I know. Trust me. It would be fun', - he breaks a smile and leaves a light kiss on her cheek.
Idea of a Halloween party came to them last week, so preparations were quick, but at least Bobby won over Athena's plan of dressing up as a police officer, her 'I'm technically a sergeant, so it's a fun costume' couldn't stand a chance.
So now she's dressed up as a vampire and to be frank Bobby finds it rather seductive than scary but who's he to judge - with all this Christmas lights and stuff. On the other hand, and hell it's hard to get used to - that's his wife. If he can imagine that six years ago? Not even close.
'Everything will be fine, Bobby, hey, if you find it interesting - why do you even question your team? Anyway, we need some time with brains off, right? And now, please, set up the fire, you know it takes some time'
***
First to show up are Hen and Karen, dressed up in something... Something... Athena exhales: 'What are you two?'
'We are NORMAL', - they laugh. They are both in striped suits but Karen's stripes are horizontal and Hen's - vertical. Hen smiles: 'It was my wife's idea, you know she's a sweet little nerd, so... Normal in geometry is something perpendicular so we're perpendicular and at the same time we're normal cause in a real life we are anything but normal and okay, even i hear it's gibberish'
'It's fun!', - Karen is quite stubborn on this: 'Okay, so we're first? And where's.. hm?'
She scoffs when there are mistletoe leaves touch her head
'Well, girls, you know the rules', - so that's why he dressed up like this? Athena smiles.
'Yes',- Hen tries to move: 'It works only on Christmas'.
'Take today as Christmas in disguise, Hen. It's an adult Halloween, we could make adjustments!', - there's totally something behind this idea but Athena can't see what. And it makes her a little nervous.
Hen tries to argue more and then Bobby turns his lights on what makes her laugh, because apart from lights this thing sings. Very badly
'Okay, okay! Just turn it off, I have no idea it has a sound and it's awful!'
She kisses Karen on the tip of her nose and laughs when she hugs her.
Then the hallway is too crowded to stand over every couple, so Bobby is just walking between guests, now and then taking out his mistletoe and turning on the singing lights, making everyone laugh uncontrollably. And Athena just watches him, smiling, which makes him come to her with this mistletoe several times in a row.
Finally she corners him: 'Okay, spill it. Why? Do you take all this 'adult' thing too literally?'
He frowns, trying to look offended: 'No. I just set the mood' , - she's not convinced: 'For what?'
'You'll see'.
***
Of course Buck is late. He promised to give Eddie a lift so ...he spent half an hour laughing over his costume
'What's the hell, Eds?!'
Eddie, bright red and visibly mad, answers for the fifth time: 'It's a cowboy. From the anime Chris watched on Netflix. Wasn't it you who shared the subscription with him? So it's your fault!'
'How come? I never told him to watch it!', - Eddie is still a little mad: 'Still. It's your fault. By the way, why are you dressed up as a cowboy?'
Buck exhales. He has an explanation but it could revive the lightning memories and he doesn't want it today. Not for himself, not for Eddie: 'No reason, just thought it could be fun'.
***
When they show up everybody are already a little tipsy and very festive.
'Okay, guys, you're late, so...', - Maddie finally sees their costumes and freezes for a second before bursting with laughter: 'Anyway! Take your pumpkin shot and go play with us, you need to come up with an idea of where your costume would be appropriate! Every idea we can break is punished by another pumpkin shot.', - she smiles wider. Looks like she herself hasn't come up with a strong enough idea yet, what is reasonable, she dressed up as a Peppa pig - apparently Jee Yun finally starts to have fun with the shows.
***
'I think it's cheating', - Chim scoffs. His costume is Mazzy and it took Buck some time to get, he was pretty sure it is an Oscar the Grouch or Grinch or their unexpected baby.
'What?', - Eddie finally smiles. Buck can't stop looking at him.
'Buck is a cowboy. It's easy. And you are just a guy in a suit!'
'I'm a guy with a gun. In a suit.',- he smiles wider and Buck's heart misses a beat. Hell. It's bad. He shouldn't.
And here is Bobby. His shots - and he has a lot - were just pumpkin spice latte, but nobody can say he's not enjoying this evening.
Athena catches his eye and suddenly everything is in place. There are two cowboys and a mistletoe. What can go wrong?
***
'What's that?',- Eddie looks confused when he sees greens over his head. Buck, standing less than a foot to him, chuckles:
'Really, it's not even Christmas yet! And Eddie is standing here alone, so it doesn't count!'
'Well',- It's Chim: 'He stands there with you'
Now Buck is also confused. And blushing profusely.
'I'm not sure... It's... Erm...'
Eddie interrupts him with a very suspicious - for Buck's taste - smile: 'It's just a game, right? Or you have something strictly against it? I mean...'
And there's Maddie: 'Evan, what's wrong with you? You know the rules, and you saw Chim kissing Josh and you laughed, now it's our turn'
Both of them - Chim and Josh - frowns synchronously, making others just laugh more.
It's not the issue. He really has something against it but not for the reason you all think.
'Buck?',- he missed a moment, when laughing stopped and now Eddie's voice is too loud in the silence: 'Did it offend you? Even i think it's just a silly joke'
Silly joke. Right. Man up, Evan Buckley!
'No, I'm fine! Come here! We're totally better than Josh and Chim'
'I'm not sure it's a...', - Bobby has no chance to finish his sentence.
Buck jumps into the kiss like people jump into the water. He thinks, it can't be that bad. He thinks, Eddie can be patient for once. He thinks...
But then there's hands around his face and Eddie answers so passionately Buck just stops thinking.
***
'How do you think, if they mentioned that I took mistletoe away like three minutes ago?'
To be fair - they didn't.

Ok so Buck is getting a meta before I write my 7x03 meta and it’s all because of this still we just got!
We haven’t seen Buck in blue jeans (he’s worn jeans they’ve just always been super black) since season 2x01 - you know when Eddie rocked up at the station and put his shirt on - yeah you’re all thinking what I’m thinking aren’t you!!! The parallels of that jealous Buck and upcoming jealous Buck keep on paralleling. Putting him back in this style of jeans now is so very deliberate and interesting - if you ask me it’s playing not only into jealous Buck, but also into Buck and his hamster wheel - it’s playing on the whole buck 1.0 upgrade to 2.0 etc - there’s something about the fact that Buck essentially stops wearing jeans when he bonds with Eddie - something in the idea that that was the moment he was being both more true to himself, but also hiding a part of himself as well - it’s almost as if the intention is to parallel and revisit some of earlier Buck and explore him opening up the part he hid. Now with the context of Buck in s2 being in a (intense for him) relationship that’s shifted and ended without him knowing/ accepting it and a new guy coming on the scene sparking jealousy before creating a strong bond, and the parallel/juxtaposition of what we’re about to see - new guy sparking jealousy and presenting a threat to his status quo whilst he shares an intense bond with Eddie is a pretty interesting concept - the idea that they may be playing into the beginning of Buck recognising that his relationship with Eddie is changing and different in the same way he slowly figured out Abby had left him - only this time it’s changing in the opposite direction - stronger more unbreakable and allows him to be his true self - well that would be an amazing piece of storytelling in my opinion.
Now obviously alayna and the wardrobe team wouldn’t have known way back in the beginning of s2 that the story was going to head in this direction, but a great designer can make choices that they made in previous seasons work for them in future ones. So to me it feels like this sudden switch back to jeans is deliberate and about tying into the past to move and change things in the present/future. Alayna knows the full arc Buck is on and the fact she’s chosen now to do this when she could’ve done it at any point or not done it at all tells me all I need to know!
Would you like some other things we’ve got going on with this outfit?? I thought you would and I’m here to serve!
We’ve seen Buck in a spotty shirt like this one exactly twice before - 2x14 when he’s at a diner with Maddie talking about Buck finding his own apartment and Maddie going back to hers and going on her second first date with Chim.
Side bar - This is the episode we ‘hear’ of Tommy in the present tense - funnily enough to save Eddie - which in light of Eddie Tommy bestism were about to get is making me chuckle (it’s clever writing and retcon) in technical terms it’s the only reference we have of him as still working for LAFD - all his other appearances are in begins episodes so ‘historical’ rather than in the present!
And then we see a different spotty shirt when he goes to see Chase Mackey in 3x04
There’s also the other dark short sleeved button ups we see him in - not spotty, but striped - the one in 4x14 when Taylor comes back,
The most awkward I love you in the history of television in 5x09 has Buck in dark navy blue with vertical stripes (I don’t have the ref picture handy as I’m on my phone but I’ll come back and add it later 😎🤓)
Then we have 6x10 and the buckley-Han family get together where everyone finds out buck has donated his sperm to Connor and Kameron
All of these scenes are pretty key moments in Bucks arcs and what I find interesting (with the exception of the first one - 2x14 which kind of fits but also doesn’t) is that they are all moments that lead to developmental regression by Buck - under the guise of growth - moments when he thinks he’s moving forward but is in fact either side stepping or going backwards. Suing Bobby and the fire department is obviously the loudest of these moments, but they all fall into this category.
2x14 is perhaps the most interesting and relevant (what with the pattern being almost the same) in reality it’s a scene about Maddie moving forward and getting on with her life - that happens to also include buck getting his own apartment rather than camping out in her dining room. Thing is Maddie talks about going to therapy and putting in the work to feel and find normal in the aftermath of a major traumatic event. In some ways the chase Mackey spotted shirt kind of also falls into this same category - the aftermath of a major (or two) traumatic event for Buck and him trying to get back to his normal (he’s just going about it all wrong)
And here in season 7 we have Buck back in a dark short sleeved spotty shirt in the aftermath of a major traumatic event (Bobby and Athenas Cruise disaster - he couldve lost his dad) trying to get back to normal (something we’ve seen him trying to do for the back half of s6 obviously) and I can’t help but wonder - with Oliver talking about Buck getting off the hamster wheel he’s been stuck on - whatever happens whilst Buck is in this shirt is going to be a major catalyst for him. its going to set him off on his arc for this season and we'll to put in the work his sister did post killing Doug and actually move forward and learn about himself in the process. What that looks like I don’t know but the scene this is from is going to be key to his escape from repeating his past mistakes and actually growing towards his happiness.
The costume department haven’t let me down yet so I’m feeling pretty excited for that scene!

first of all tim why use the word coupling to describe buddie, wouldn't pairing make more sense for friendship. coupling is usually used for romantic pairings... anyway beside the point when he says fun I'm thinking massive angst so what on Earth could cause buddie to go through massive angst. drunk hook up night before the wedding, def goes up that alley. Yes it confirms buddie canon and endgame but....the angst in the aftermath is gonna be insane. Can you imagine Buck wanting to talk about what happened and Eddie in character completely closing off and running away from it and his feelings about the situation...oh the angst is gonna be so juicy.
Tim really loves toying with us, doesn't he?
What an unhinged choice of words
Yeah I have a few theories by now and after seeing Oliver's bts of him wearing a bright shirt with vertical stripes in one of the dating spots (I think)
I got even more
Drunk hook up would be sooooo fun. So fucking angsty
Cause for Eddie it would've been absolute 100% serious
And for Buck an impulse decision a la... Actually why don't we make out? We like each other...
But now I'm also thinking
We're gonna get the bi Buck storyline for sure
The dating spot and shirt are screaming at me
But Buck's choice in date is not the right one (hey Tommy)
Ooohhh imagine he's on a date with Tommy but keeps mentioning Eddie so Tommy has to be like... Dude.. You're in love with his guy and Buck is like.... Nah he's just my partner and Tommy is like 🤨
Wouldn't that be fun?
I'm soooooo here for a shit ton of angst before they start figuring it out for real
The whole thing of.. But he doesn't see me like this, we're just friendd, I don't wanna lose him etc etc
Bring. It. On.

[video description: 911 season 7 episode 6 promo
Jaunty music plays. Buck lies asleep on his front, wearing a white dressing gown, a few pillow feathers littered around his face on the rug. His eyebrows rise and his mouth slowly opens as he wakes. There's a clanking sound as he elbows a wine glass as he pushes himself onto his forearms. He slowly turns to look behind him, eyes widening.
Eddie lies asleep in the circular bathtub, legs dangling over the edge. He lets out a loud honking noise as he jerks awake, sitting upright. There are pillow feathers in his hair and he is wearing brown loafers, pastel pink trousers, and just the shirt collar of his pink shirt.
We hear Buck call out, "hey, uh, Chimney!" and then see him blearily push open a hotel room door. His shirt is splattered in brown stains, and the dressing gown has red wine stains too.
There's tense synths plucking in the background while Buck looks around the room, which has a black suit hanging on the door, and Eddie says "he's not here."
Eddie leans on the doorframe next to Buck, bent over with his hand next to his head. As Buck blinks and moves back as he slowly says, "ooh, that's not good," Eddie takes in a deep breath, looking extremely nauseous as he looks upwards before pushing a breath out through pursed lips.
A drum beat starts as the text and voiceover say "Thursday May 2"
In the bridal suite, Margaret Buckley sits on a large armchair, looking disappointed. She is wearing a forest green dress, and her hair is cut short. Jee-Yun sits on her lap, looking at the ceiling in fascination. Behind them, Philip wears black suit, his bow-tie undone. He rests a hand on the back of the armchair, head raised slightly and looking concerned as he asks, "where are you going?"
A teary Maddie spins on the spot to face them, emphatically announcing, "I'm going to find my husband" before starting to walk out.
The drum beats stop, and over a sunset sky and mountains, the text and voiceover say "It's an all new 9-1-1"
A steady drum beat with hi-hat sounds plays in the background, Maddie holds up her train as she marches forwards from an elevator, face drawn with worry. Hen walks behind someone in a dark coloured suit jacket. She is wearing a black suit jacket with white vertical stripes, white shirt, and a thick black ribbon fashioned as a tie. Behind her, Sue exclaims, "runaway bride?"
Hen turns, eyes wide in exasperation, as she replies "runaway groom" before turning back towards where Maddie has walked up some steps to the dispatch table. Josh appears to be between Maddie and Hen.
We hear Athena firmly say, "we're going to find him, Maddie." as we see Bobby in a dark coloured polo shirt, eyes watery as he nods and starts to say something, and then see Athena talking into her phone. She wears a black top under an army green jacket.
Over a sunset sky and mountains, the text and voiceover say "You won't forget"
An electronic buzz increases in volume and pitch, as we see quick cuts of Buck and Eddie. At the karaoke bar, there's a neon sign that reads "Let's Party". Buck and Eddie are sitting under it, holding out shot glasses, along with many others, as someone haphazardly pours across them.
Close up of Buck, mouth smiling extremely wide as he yells. Eddie holds a microphone up, no longer wearing his suit jacket. He grins and bobs his head jauntily, one arm around Buck's shoulder. Close up of Hen, in a different location with a white background, starting to smile as she tilts her head back.
The screen cuts to black, the music drops out, then we get a close-up of Chimney, outdoors somewhere. His hair and face are wet, shirt sleeves rolled up to reveal bloody forearms, and he drags himself along wooden floorboards as he groans out, "I'm supposed to be somewhere"
The background is LA at sunset, and the text on screen and the voiceover say, “911, new, Thursday May 2nd, ABC and stream on Hulu".
