yknow i've been out of high school for years now and i still think about how fucking stupid the uniform code was. i was constantly being pulled out of class for wearing makeup or having mismatched socks or badges on my blazer, and when i asked why it wasn't allowed they'd give me some bullshit reason like "well uhhh if you work in an office you'll have to stick to the dress code so it's good practise for that" like hello???
#be shh now#is this a british schools thing???#i just watched a video of interviews with american high school kids and they're all wearing an eclectic mix of different outfits#some have crazy-coloured hair or wacky accessories and i'm like.#what must it be like to dress how you want without getting punished for it

grrrr why did people ever stop wearing mid-renaissance clothes
#yes I am mad bc I wanna go to fetes galantes with a friend in a few years#which will mean having to make a baroque gown and I just think Baroque dresses are so ugly 😭#give me back my beautiful renaissance shapes please!!! I am crying I am shaking etc#and by renaissance I do not mean whatever rigid monstrocities the british had going on during the tudor and elisabethan era#I mean my beautiful German/Dutch renaissance soft shapes#with just absolute madness in the sleeves and in the details#like at least rococo is a little fun bc panniers but baroque? I want to throw myself off a cliff.#'Early 16th century is when Central European fashion peaked and honestly we should've just kept that' remains the hill I will die on#like it's so fun and so stupid. you want a big silly hat? have a big silly hat! you want the poofiest sleeves to ever poof? go for it!#You want an ornamented fake bulge that is very dick shaped that has a little pocket in it for treats to give to the ladies#(top 10 flirting tips they don't tell you about! Works every time!!!)? Boy do I have the accessory for you!#but no we must have weird flowy shapes and then not even commit to that also lets all wear the worst hairstyle anyone has#ever conceived of. that's a good idea!#just completely lost literally what were people on about back then? A fucking disgrace I'm telling you!

National Accessory Day
National Accessory Day, celebrated on November 3, is the perfect day to honor our love for accessories. Some attires are incomplete without the touch of accessories, while other attires are worn to highlight the statement piece — Bella Hadid’s golden lung necklace at the Met Gala comes to mind. Any adornment worn with clothes, including shoes, bags, belts, bracelets, watches, rings, necklaces, and earrings, falls into the category of accessories (the first two often find themselves in their own separate category). Now that we are clear about the sphere of fashion we are celebrating, let’s learn more about its history.
History of National Accessory Day
Accessories add the essential details and refine the finer points of a look. In the fashion world, accessories are known to be the “vitamin to fashion” and “exclamation point of an outfit.” But how did it come into existence?
Some accessories naturally evolved to fulfill necessities, while others were introduced to represent social status and wealth. Early accessories — when humans were dancing around a fire dressed in leaves and animal skin — were made of bones, seeds, feathers, shells, and stones. Crowns, amulets, or badges often depicted the status of the individual in the tribe or town.
Necessity carved the other sets of accessories, such as bags and footwear. Glasses, shades, and watches (often replaced with Fitbit these days) were introduced to the list with newer inventions.
In the last few centuries, it has been observed that wars and economic depressions have impacted fashion more than any major brand or designer. For instance, in the Victorian era, gloves, fans, and extravagant hats were integral to women’s wear, while after the Great Depression, the style became subtle and minimalist with long socks and simple hats.
Accessories are capable of changing the mood of a get-up. Social media is filled with tutorials to style the same dress for different occasions by just changing the accompanying accessories — just changing how a scarf is worn or adding a belt can change the whole vibe of the look.
