That’s why the Vogue issue also rubbed people the wrong way. Most forces for change are unknown. They volunteer at animal shelters or foster children, they invent cures for illnesses or create systems that give people incomes without relying on fickle charity donations. Of all women, MM chose actors and models. The everyday British superwoman (businesswomen, scientists, carers) were once again ignored and made to feel invisible. If she had good PR sense she would’ve given THE PEOPLE her voice.
Exactly.

Let's rise and celebrate our sisters today for IInternational Women's Day. Thank you to all the strong women who have gone before me, supported me and lifted me up. To all the women who have taught me and learned from me. Self care is part of that journey. Learning that selfcare is not selfish. Learning that we have to take care of ourselves, before we can take care of anyone else. Give a shoutout to the powerful women in your life. Who motivates and inspires you? O C C U P A T I O N  → ceo of walton-rowe inc. / ceo of ophelia by walton-rowe / investor at the sullinger group luxury hotels and resort
TRIGGERS: death, plane crash, depression, survivor’s guilt
P A S T  →
sarabeth’s life is filled with a lot of shiny things. from the silver that is constantly polished, marble banisters that always have a certain glint to them, the chandeliers that always seem to dance in the light, and the most important one of all: the diamonds. the walton-rowe ltd. is a huge player in the mining business; be it oil, ores containing copper, silver, and gold, and at the core center of the business itself is the diamond. the most prominent product of walton-rowe’s mines.
it all started when henry rowe, a british businessman, founded rowe mining corporation in the 1800s, becoming one of the major owners of diamond mines such as the de beers, rowe mining’s major competitor and the parameter of all diamond companies in the future are measured. the  companies were competing healthily and both continued to become a billion-dollar company until the great depression hit. while an advertising campaign saved the de beers from destitute, a marriage was what saved the rowe mining co.
abraham rowe and margaret walton’s marriage brought upon the strongest joint venture in history, the merge between rowe mining co. and john walton inc, creating walton-rowe ltd. john walton inc. was a mining company whose focus was to mine for ores containing copper, silver, and gold and they also had oil drilling mines across the world. john walton inc. funded the entire operations of rowe mining’s diamond ventures, who was also benefited by piggybacking the de beer’s advertising campaign and abraham and margaret’s own brilliant strategic business planning. now, diamonds are the main venture for walton-rowe ltd.’s business.
reginald walton-rowe is the sole heir of the company. reginald was not the typical rich boy whose face would appear in tabloids every week with a girl by his side. he did everything right; graduated summa cum laude from wharton business school, earned his mba in stanford with a 4.0 gpa, took on the family business right after university, and have stayed away from being featured in sleazy tabloids looking to build controversies around him, because his life was clean from the common rich bachelor vices such as women, booze, drugs, gambling, and more.
his entire life changed when he met ophelia, however. a spontaneous, smart, and ambitious jet-setting heiress of the american luxury hotel and resorts company, the sullinger group. she had many connections and friends across the globe; some tabloids even reported a boyfriend in each continent for every time she visits, but whether that was true or not remained unknown by the public. while reginald had his entire life planned, ophelia was the type to roll with the punches, going with where life leads her and improvise to achieve her ambitions. she brought a whole new meaning to reginald’s carefully-planned life, essentially throwing his manual out the window and showing him a whole new world.
the couple were married in an extravagant wedding in lake como, italy. a few years later, they were gifted with a beautiful baby girl, sarabeth orla cordelia walton-rowe. but pregnancy was not the easiest thing that ophelia went through. ophelia had two miscarriages before they finally had sarabeth, and even then the journey was rough; it started with an increasingly tough phase of morning sickness to the point that ophelia was barely able to keep anything down so she had to be injected with an iv every other week. then, she was bedridden for the entire last trimester of the pregnancy, she had to undergo an emergency c-section, and recovery was a tough road. this added to the love ophelia and reginald had for their only daughter.
reginald and ophelia walton-rowe’s whole world revolved around sarabeth. she entered the best schools, had the best tutors, and was allowed to explore any hobby she liked. piano, painting, ballet, gymnastics, violin, and even origami for a few months. sarabeth was allowed to take a fashion course after school when she was sixteen for an entire year and then interned for vogue when she was seventeen.
sarabeth acquired many skills in her pocket, but her true calling was becoming a businesswoman just like her mother and her father. sarabeth had a knack for business; able to sell whatever products was given her way, and she was able to build connections and she had a lot of friends. a lot of people were jealous, of course, of the girl who was spoiled even more than british royalty.
every holiday, sarabeth would go to a different country and bring home many interesting stories of skiing at the alps or staying in a yacht in the french riviera, getting to take a photo with the winner of the monaco grand prix, and more. every fashion season, sarabeth would own pieces even before they were available in store, even had haute couture pieces designed just for her. she was a regular attendee of fashion weeks ever since she turned twenty-one.
like her father, she graduated magna cum laude from wharton business school and an mba at harvard. she had ambitions and goals, and she worked hard to achieve them. but, like her mother, sarabeth was spontaneous and gregarious. she had friends from all over the world with various occupations––actors, models, businesswomen, businessmen, lawyers, hoteliers, even doctors. life was perfect for sarabeth. even a pimple was a rare issue for the girl, not that it does not happen.
that was until three years ago, when a plane crash on their private jet killed both her parents on way back from london to new york for christmas. sarabeth was not on the plane with them, although she was supposed to be. sarabeth was in paris for fashion week, of which she was a regular attendee. but after one of her best friends went to labor early, the socialite decided to stay another day instead of joining her parents in london, and would fly back to new york on her own. she was supposed to be in the flight that killed her parents.
she was about to board the private jet when she heard of the tragedy. her security detail escorted her back to the hotel, where sarabeth spent the next five days as search parties tried to recover her parents’ remains. the funeral and the wake went by quickly, and although sarabeth managed the best possible smile she could for the guests, every single person there knew that a part of her died along with her parents.
the will-reading came after that. the whole walton-rowe and sullinger family came to the event––ophelia’s siblings and reginald’s cousins mainly––anticipating that they will get a share of what reginald and ophelia had. alas, the entire ownership of walton-rowe’s estate, money, investments, and the walton-rowe company was left to their only daughter, even forty percent of the walton-rowe’s share of the sullinger group, making sarabeth the owner of the largest share of the company.
this created the classic family feud over money. all of them aimed their deadly stares at the girl they thought was just another pretty blonde girl who knows nothing about running a business as large as walton-rowe and the sullinger group. sarabeth was bombarded with aunts and uncles who tried to make her renounce the inheritance, insensitive of her grief. that was when randolph walton-rowe, sarabeth’s grandfather who decided to return from retirement and come to new york all the way from london, stepped in. keeping sarabeth’s aunts, uncles, and cousins who craved for the inheritance at bay, allowing sarabeth to run away to paris, the city she found solace in when she heard of her parents’ death.
for an entire year, the girl stayed in the penthouse at george v and avoided every part of the family’s drama. she found the time to deal with her own grief, depression, and the most painful one of all, the survivor’s guilt.
sarabeth attended therapy sessions, did exercises, hung out more with her friends as per her therapist’s prescriptions, and even tried to be more involved in the company she was supposed to be running. one year later, sarabeth was able to not cry every time she was alone, but she also knew that sitting around at her house and going out on brunches or parties would not help. as long as her mind is not preoccupied, it allows the memory of her parents and the guilt she felt to creep back in to her mind. she was not going to let that happen. that was how she decided that she needed to get back to the states.
sarabeth needed to run her empire, to prove the people who underestimated her wrong, but most importantly, she wanted nothing more than to get her original stride back. she wanted to work, to do something with her life instead of just laying around feeling miserable and wasting time.
it has been two years since sarabeth first came back to the states and started to become more involved in the legacy her parents left her. sarabeth had focused more on walton-rowe when she returned; after all, the company was left without a ceo. she focused on restructuring the company, eliminating personnels she knew to have no good intentions, people her father had always wanted to eliminate. she recruited a number of young people into her team, people who bring a new perspective into the company who desperately needed to approach the business world in a new light––a light where businesses need to keep up with the ever-growing and ever-changing trends of the world––and a fresh new perspective.
P R E S E N T  →
it started with sarabeth realizing that walton-rowe needed a face to connect with the people who bought their diamonds. of course, ever since it started, walton-rowe had always been a supplier of diamonds to large jewelry stores such as harry winston, tiffany & co., and cartier. it exclusively collaborated with renowned jewelers for the people who are willing to pay more for a custom-designed piece of jewelry exclusively from the walton-rowe house. but sarabeth knew that simply making exclusive collections for people who can afford it is not enough to ensure that walton-rowe will remain a powerful game-changer in the business––and the only way to do that is for their brand to have a face––to allow not just the rich 1% of the world’s population be able to afford their diamonds, but anyone who can afford the most beautiful declaration of love.
sarabeth opened walton-rowe’s first flagship jewelry boutique on fifth avenue called ophelia by walton-rowe, with customers pouring in to take in the beautiful collection that has been advertised and teased for months. sales continued to skyrocket, with celebrities becoming the face of the advertisement and the brand ambassadors. even with prices given at a discount, and random lucky customers treated into getting a jewelry more than their budget, letting the fame of the new walton-rowe jewels to spread like wildfire through word-of-mouth and of course through the digital world, the most effective method of advertisement today.
however, even with ophelia gaining so much popularity, the scrutiny sarabeth continued to heighten; either jealousy or the fact that they are in denial that the young businesswoman was actually capable, but either way they continued to undermine sarabeth’s ability––blinded by her age, her lack of experience, and maybe even her gender.
but the excitement of the new venture is not the only thing keeping sarabeth busy. new developments have emerged from her parents’ plane crash to prove that it was not an accident at all. evidence suggests that her parents’ planes were rigged to plummet the way it did. recordings from the black box that was finally discovered indicated that the pilots knew the private jet was rigged as soon as the whole system started to break down.
with her inheritance and the connections she has, sarabeth hired a private investigator to help the fbi with the case that would crack the mystery of who was behind the death of her parents and ensured that everything is kept in secret; only between her, her security detail, and the fbi. her heart was set to find the people responsible and make sure the receive the consequences.

Conversation
Lemonverse except Oops! All '80s Lesbians!
Lena "Axelrod" Anderson: A former pop star, now unable to perform owing to a minor case of death... at least, that used to be the case, until SynchroProjects Biotech brought her back to life. She's not terribly happy about it, but she doesn't exactly have a choice not to perform. Age 28.
Tandy Tannis-Taylor: A conspiracy theorist constantly investigating the various mysteries she perceives as existing. She's almost convinced she'll never find anything... until she finds out about Lena and gets on the trail of SynchroProjects. Intensely focused on whatever goal she has at the time, almost to a fault. Age 25.
Cara Mann: An ex-SynchroProjects engineer who, dying of cancer, went very slightly nuts and integrated her body with an arcade cabinet. Aside from a near-death experience in 1985, it's been a charmed un-life... until Tandy accidentally stumbles upon her two years later. Inventive and erratic, a combination that leads to her taking options others might not consider. Age 27, technically.
Noelle: A princess of a race of no-eyed people from another dimension. In 1975, she incited an invasion of Earth by consorting with a now-deceased human, but managed to stop it before too much was destroyed. Her people subsequently erased it from the world's mind, and Noelle was exiled. 12 years later, she comes across Tandy, and decides to aid her. Her name was given to her by her former lover. Her personality is unreadable, given that her language isn't real, but she seems mostly alright. Age ???.
Wendy Hope Dart: Noelle's former lover, now a ghost haunting his mansion. Was involved in some really weird stuff, and is one of the only people who knows what's up with SynchroProjects, which is a great boon for Tandy. Dignified, if a bit eccentric. Age at death 31.
Sarah Broderick: A mad scientist who's been doing her own investigation into SynchroProjects, as well as some other side projects. Not dangerous as such, just... weird. Age 27.
Elle Woods: A fae trickster fascinated with humanity. In the early 1930s, she took the form of a mongoose named Gef and lived with a British family for a few years, becoming famous in that time. She sees possibility in Tandy and has decided to tag along. Her name is a reference to something Tandy won't get for a while. Capricious, enigmatic, and loves a good prank. Age 275.
Altamira: A Stone Age woman transported to the modern day. She uses a device of unknown origin to both make others understand her and understand the world around her. She accidentally catapulted herself into the future and is just kind of along for the ride. Inquisitive and melancholic. Age 22.
Sandra Feldman: A female-identifying being from another dimension only visible as a haze in the air, although she can be heard just fine. She desires nothing more than to be human and be loved by humans, difficult though it is. Clingy and depressive, but ultimately good-hearted. Age ???.
Anna Young Fadden: Tandy's punk best friend since childhood. She cares deeply for her, and wishes she'd stop with the conspiracy stuff... until Tandy walks up to her with a literal ghost in tow. Due to financial troubles, she's had to move back in with her borderline-abusive father. Age 24.
Older Anna: A version of Anna from ten years in the future, employed by SynchroProjects and miserable over it. She's come back to attempt to change her past. Age 34.
Regan Tannis-Taylor: Tandy's sister; an avid Reaganite who couldn't care less about her sister's conspiracies. She's applying for a job at SynchroProjects when she's distracted from her goal by her sister going completely insane... or so she thinks. Condescending and deeply conservative, but golden at heart. Age 28.
Megan Oskar O'Hara: An executive at SynchroProject. She seems normal, if a bit stressed and sleepless, by day, but hides a strange goal that she works on by night. Usually a nice person, but has become irritable and snappish lately thanks to lack of sleep. Age 29.
Sybil O'Hara: The CEO of SynchroProject, and one of the most successful businesswomen of the 20th century. Her influence is felt worldwide, and pretty much anyone you talk to on the street knows her name. Her personality can be summarized by "sugar-coated ant poison". Age 30.
Rachel Yvette Lennon: An advertising exec at SynchroProject. Slavishly devoted to her employers. She barely has any thoughts other than of her job. Age 30.
Yasmin Peters: A supposedly missing girl from 1969 who was last heard complaining to 911 about an overly loud party next door. She makes herself known to Tandy 18 years later, having become... something else. Distant and asocial, but she has a good reason to be. Age 25, technically.

She says she’s kept his secrets and he’s treated her like a gremlin. Could she be dangerous to the PM?
On the day Boris Johnson addressed the CBI, it’s great to get a firmer idea of what he meant when he said “fuck business”. And who better to give it to us than the CEO of one of the businesses he will surely end up completely fucking. Yes, it’s time to hear a whole lot more from our favourite cray-cray multihyphenate, the model/entrepreneur/infosec-something Jennifer Arcuri. Finally, a proper sublebrity enters the election campaign, as Jennifer breaks six weeks of silence with an ITV special, a Good Morning Britain appearance and a mesmerising Victoria Derbyshire interview in which she declared: “No one’s understood Boris Johnson better than I have for the last 10 years.” (...)
(Note: not even his wife understand him better? you know, the woman he was married to while cheating with you Jennifer? the woman he left while ongoing cancer treatments to be with his new more socially acceptable busty blond British Svetlana? OK)
Is the prime minister velly solly about what has happened to his fellow platinum blond(e), who famously gave him technology lessons and accompanied him on various trade missions like they were a pair of beta version Targaryens? Of course not! Not remotely. Fuck business. Or as Johnson was tweeting at the very moment Arcuri was describing being hung out to dry by him: “We can only invest in our great public services if we support the entrepreneurs, businesses and hardworking people who get up each day to build our strong economy.” I know, right? Unless he hardworkingly shags entrepreneurs and businesswomen, you literally can’t have an NHS. That’s just economics. (...)
As for what it is Arcuri wants, she says it’s simple: an apology from Johnson for ghosting her, for him to “man up and to pick up the phone to me”, and for him “to acknowledge the fact that for a long time I was a part of his life”. This feels quite relatable – and also quite unlikely to happen on the stump in Nuneaton. (...)

"Are you lost little lamb?" - Chuuya
Streamlined silver in the horizon of urban lights, the heiress stands with lips slightly parted as the coolness of night’s wind caressed her cheeks. 20 years spent mostly in bustling Yorkshire, frequently jumping between major cities across Europe, the CEO-to-be never found herself able to resolve her reclusive habits.
Marred fingertips glided down the secured strap of her leather suitcase, keen on recollecting the imagery of subway stations and pinpoint accurate maps. She kneaded the material. The longer I’m out here, the more susceptible I am to these thoughts. Why couldn’t I have just stayed in the studio today? The woman took a deep breath, filling her lungs with the cold before she exhaled softly. I shouldn’t have been as selfish as to go to that dive bar to late in the evening, especially with the board meeting tomorrow…
Whiskey had warmed her veins, keeping her widely alert to her surroundings. Faded in the background was the reverberations of the train leaving the Yokohama railway station to return busy businessmen and businesswomen to their respective districts and homes. The rare pedestrian on the sidewalk only created muted footsteps that quickly left her as she watched over the city line. However, any creak or whisper she assumed to be of this plane only made her shift uncomfortably to then glance over her shoulder to reassure her sanity.
Combing back a dangling long strand of silver behind her ear, the woman continued navigating through the night-lit city, eyes marveling at the great advertising signs and giant displays. Distinguished models, actors/actresses, and musicians periodically appeared on the screens, either in short segments from interviews on the TV or sponsoring a new brand deal. Oh, I’ve worked with her....and her! Finding the familiar faces of those who commissioned her did bring a gentle smile on her face. Though, she noted the live television feed and tucked her lips into her mouth, now only focusing on the headlines
As beautiful and peaceful as this place may be -- paranoia tapped its claws on her conscious to remind her -- no matter how serene or picturesque the scenery may be, the darkness reigned supreme, no matter if the sun had risen or set. She uneasily squeezed her hands before she rested them on her side.
Relax, relax. Her hands flattened out her gray floral skirt and adjusted the collar of her white iron-pressed shirt....to then fiddling with the gray cardigan over her shoulders. Nothing is going to happen. Sophie Hatter, stop being an incredulous fool and suck it up.
“Hm--?” Sophie stopped with one foot about to hit the pavement. The British woman reconsidered her fixation, now realizing ti was merely perplexion that made her body pause. ‘Lost lamb,’ surely this mysterious person was referring to someone else who’d passed by. She wrinkled her nose, blinking. No one else is here. This stranger must be drunk. I should redirect them to the bus and return home as soon as I can. Or, I run. The latter sounds preferable.
A shaky breath from her lips, the heiress weighed the pros and cons as her body was slowly shifting to pay a secret glance to the speaker. Half of her shriveled in reviewing the context, repeating the phrase to herself. God help me if it’s flirtatious. Who in the right mind would do that at 2 AM? Perhaps this is what I deserve for deterring from my schedule and spending some time for myself. How selfish am I-- I do deserve it. Damn it.
Both thick and ashy brows furrowed once her gloss-over developed into a thorough inspection -- it was a man. Disregarding the distance that separated the two, she recognized the height disparity as almost non-existent between the two. Part of her hypothesized that if he drew closer, she would’ve stood taller than him, thanks to her heels. Even without the additional 6 centimeters from her black heels, she supposed that she’d be a smidge taller than him without her shoes.
Audaciously western, the woman reviewed his wardrobe. A black coat that hung from his shoulders. The interior of said coat matched the coloring scheme of the ribbon around his black hat. However, the folds on the front of the jacket where much darker, which then matched the color of the shorter cuffed sleeves to another smaller jacket. An untucked gray vest allowed her to catch a glimpse of a white button-down, which served as his undershirt.
Are those belts? On his chest? Is it also on his neck too? Oh dear. Despite the hiccup in belt sorting, the woman admitted to herself that the look was polished, refined. If not, a bit too on the nose in “classy” when it seemed inappropriate for outerwear in casual settings and the outfit must’ve made the heat insufferable during the daytime.
Earthly irises met cloudy irises. Tangerine-hued locks framed his face, the left side hanging longer than than the right side from behind with the front hairs curling inwards. Alert, round eyes versus calm, sharp eyes. She remained wide-eyed over the spectacle
Tumblr media
“Pardon?” She stiffened, returning to her senses and sweeping her thoughts into the back of her mind. “I’m not lost, sir,” she stammered through. “I’m returning to my apartment.”
“Forgive me if you were calling out to someone else.” Sophie, you dolt! You know there isn’t anyone else here.

Warnings: mentions of sex, language
A/N: Infinity War comes out on Blu-Ray in like two days and I’m so fucking ready to have my heart destroyed for the 949584th time.
Summary: Just strangers, occupying the same place at the same time.
~ ~ ~
If Alejandro’s room had no windows, I probably could’ve slept all day, which wouldn’t have been a good thing. Blinking rapidly, trying to get used to the endless amount of sunlight that was pouring in, I sat up and stared at the sleeping man. His back was turned to me and I noticed he had taken most of the blankets. This guy was a total ass, but Jesus, he had a huge dick. It was unfortunate he barely knew how to use it.
Quietly, I climbed out of the bed, tiptoeing across his room, picking up my clothes that were scattered across the floor. One thing I hated about one night stands: the morning after. I hated walking out of a stranger’s apartment with last night’s clothes and my teeth unbrushed. But 8/10 times the sex is good, so I guess it’s whatever.
I went into the kitchen, fixing me a glass of water to at least create the illusion that my teeth were clean. I thought about writing Alejandro a note with my number, telling him to call me if he was up for anything else, but to be honest, he was a total asshat. Instead, I put my glass in my sink, pulled my hair up, and left his apartment, making sure I avoided eye contact with everyone I came into contact with.
It was early morning, which meant that I only crossed paths with one or two ambitious joggers. They minded their business as did I, strangers occupying the same space at the same time with different intentions. Alejandro’s place was at the end of the hall, meaning I had to walk for a minute to get to the elevator. Once I finally made it to the elevator, I pushed the down button and waited for it to open. I entered and pressed the button to the first floor.
I leaned back and sighed, closing my eyes to get a few more seconds of sleep. The doors began to close and I was going to be alone when I someone shuffle and called out, “Wait!” Being the nice person I am, I held my arm out and waited for the person to come on. He jumped on and thanked me, slightly out of breath. I nodded and said nothing, not really wanting to attract his attention even though I sort of wanted to.
The guy was hot. He had brown hair that was disheveled and a jawline that could slice my throat. His eyes matched his hair and they held an intensity I had never seen. There were dark circles under them and I noticed that his clothes were messed up as well. He was walking his own walk of shame as well. I stifled a laugh as I asked him what floor.
“First floor,” he said. The button was already pressed, so I didn’t really know what to do with this information. I looked up at the monitor and it read the 10th floor. The two of us said nothing to one another and the awkwardness was definitely there. I started picking my nails and sneakily checking the man out.
He cleared his throat and faced me, “You live around here?” It was obvious he didn’t; I don’t know why I didn’t hear it when he told me the floor, but now it was obvious that he was British. I shook my head, “No, I was just...visiting.” I mentally facepalmed myself as I said it, but the man smiled crookedly and said, “So was I.”
Suddenly, the elevator jerked to a stop and both of us fell forward. I grabbed on to the railing near me to steady myself before processing what was happening. I repeatedly began to press the button that opens the doors, but it wouldn’t work. Soon enough, an alarm started to go off and I realized the elevator was stuck.
I sighed sharply and sat down, “Great.” “Claustrophobic?” The guy asked. I shook my head, “I just want to take a shower at my own place and sleep for the rest of the weekend.” The man nodded along before sitting next to me. “I’m Tom by the way,” he said, sticking out his hand for me to shake. I shook it and said, “Y/N.” “Pretty name for a pretty girl,” he smiled warmly and I felt heat rise up to my cheeks. I could get used to being stuck in an elevator, only if it meant I would receive constant flattery from a man carved from clay.
“So, Tom, how did you find the person you ‘visited’?” I asked and he laughed. “My mates and I went out. I got a little too drunk and one thing led to another and I was ‘visiting’ a lovely girl named Anna,” he said, “She has a lot of cats though.” I made a face and shook my head, “Cats are a dealbreaker for me.”
“Same with me, I’m a dog person by heart. Now tell me, Y/N, who did you ‘visit’?” Tom asked. I took my phone out and checked my reflection, dabbing at some smudged mascara to help reduce my massive raccoon eyes that were going on. “Same exact story, except Anna was Alejandro and he was not so lovely,” I said.
Tom raised an eyebrow, “Was he now?” “Jesus Christ, you think if you’re going to pick a random girl up from the bar, you should at least make her come at least once,” I groaned, “I honestly wish I was drunk during that.” Almost immediately I regret telling a stranger that, but fuck it. This conversation was nice to have. Tom clicked his tongue and shook his head, “He’s a douche for that.”
I nodded in agreement and nudged his shoulder playfully, “I hope Anna had a better time than me.” “I could show you a better time, if you want,” Tom smirked and I was taken aback. I raised my eyebrows in suspicion, “The two of us just came back from a one night stand, one of us sore as hell and the other one probably hungover. Are you sure you want to bounce back that quickly?”
Tom leaned in and lightly kissed my neck. The kisses trailed up until he found my ear and nibbled on it before saying, “Anything for you, pretty girl.” I suppressed a shudder and I pulled away, watching his face. He was looking at me hungrily, as if I were prey. We’d only know each other for about fifteen minutes and he was ready to sleep with me, but then again, I had known Alejandro for less than ten minutes.
I grabbed the collar of Tom’s shirt and placed my lips on his, sealing the deal for another one night stand. He kissed me back deeply before taking control of the kiss. He lifted me up and put me on top of him, which was super hot. One of his hands moved away from my hips and he dragged his finger across my spine, giving me shivers. He finally made his way to my hair, tugging my hair tie out and letting my hair down. By now, I was practically grinding on him and every now and then he would softly moan into my lips, causing me to smile.
The elevator shifted again, causing me to jump out of his lap. I looked at the monitor and noticed we were moving again. I stood up quickly, brushing myself off before helping Tom up. The door opened on the third floor and a couple of businesswomen walked in. I smiled shyly and waved, aware that my hair was down and messier than ever thanks to Tom.
He pulled out a pack of gum and offered a stick to me, “Want some?” I smiled and took it, unwrapping it and placing it in my mouth. Tom watched me as I did so and whispered, “I wonder what else could fit in that mouth of yours.”
One of the businesswomen glared at Tom, opening her mouth to say something before I chimed in, “He’s my boyfriend, don’t worry.” I glared at him, “He’s just being obnoxious.” The elevator finally made its way to the first floor and we parted ways with the businesswomen.
The sun was out and blanketed me in its warmth. It was a humid summer’s day and I could feel my hair begin to stick to my head, but at the moment I really didn’t care. Tom walked beside me, “Your boyfriend, huh?” “I couldn’t think of anything else to say since someone had to make that lewd comment in public,” I explained. Tom walked ahead of me before stopping in front of me.
“Look, I know we’ve only known each other for like ten minutes and we’re on our way to go fuck and all, but I sort of want to see you again afterward,” he said, “I mean, if you don’t want to, that’s fine, but I would love to get to know you more.”
A warmth of happiness rushed over my body as I took in his words. I felt the same about this and I was ecstatic that he voiced what I was afraid to say. I couldn’t help but smile widely as Tom stood, anticipating my answer and say, “There’s a Thai place about four blocks from my apartment, you want to go?”
Tom relaxed his shoulders and fell back to my side, walking with me as we both made our way to my apartment. “So it’s a yes then?” “Let’s see,” I smirked, “You have yet to show me a better time.” Tom put his arm around my waist and pulled my closer so that his mouth was close to my ear. “Oh it won’t disappoint, pretty girl,” he said and we made our way to my apartment, the both of us a little too giddy to see what could unravel between the two of us.

How the Pandemic Has Affected Working Women
Tumblr media
(2022, March 12). How the pandemic has affected working women. The Economist. https://www.economist.com/business/how-the-pandemic-has-affected-working-women/21808070 UTL Link: http://myaccess.library.utoronto.ca/login?qurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.proquest.com%2Fmagazines%2Fno-ceiling-fans%2Fdocview%2F2638292513%2Fse-2%3F
The Economist writes: "Women in business have broken three records of late. The number of female bosses at the helm of Fortune 500 companies in America is at an all-time high of 41. ... In America and other well-off places businesswomen are making strides, according to The Economist's glass-ceiling index, an annual snapshot of female empowerment. Their share of board seats is rising in most places (though it has dipped since 2019 in progressive Sweden). Female boardroom representation surged in the Netherlands and Germany after they introduced mandatory quotas. But laws aren't everything. The British government's voluntary targets have also boosted the share of women on the boards of ftse 100 companies, from 12.5% a decade ago to nearly 40%. Investors who care about environmental, social and governance factors are increasingly pressing firms to treat male and female employees equally."
"Still, businesswomen have a long way to go before they catch up with their male counterparts, especially in the upper reaches of corporate hierarchies, and in some respects trail their female colleagues in politics. ... Men still occupy more than two in three boardroom seats in America. In South Korea, they hog more than nine in ten. Women continue to earn less than their male colleagues (never mind that girls outperform boys at school across the OECD, a club of mostly rich countries). In America outcomes are worse still for women of colour, who make less than white women and are even more underrepresented in senior roles. More troubling still, too many women are dropping off the corporate ladder altogether. Although remote work made it easier for some women to combine work with family chores (still performed mostly by mothers and wives), the pandemic has pushed a disproportionate number of them out of the workforce. Women's labour-force participation in OECD countries declined from 65% before covid-19 first hit to 63.8% a year later. Stymying female advancement may be yet another insidious consequence of the virus."

Halifax-born champion of gender equity named Commander of British Empire
LONDON -- A Halifax-born banker who is a fierce advocate of gender equity in corporate boardrooms has been named a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth.
Brenda Trenowden is head of the Financial Institutions Group in Europe for ANZ Bank and global chairwoman of the 30% Club, which campaigns for greater representation of women on the boards of the London Stock Exchange's top performing companies.
She says she has been overwhelmed by congratulatory notes and flowers since the Queen's Birthday Honours List was released this month.
"It's a big deal in the U.K.," says Trenowden, who can now use the post-nominal initials CBE after her name.
Trenowden, who for three years also served as president of the City Women Network -- a businesswomen's group in London -- says she advocates for better gender balance on boards and in executive management "not because it's what's right but because it's proven to be better for business."
She says there is a "mountain of research" that shows gender parity in the workplace is good for a company's bottom line.
The 30% Club has nearly reached its goal -- with women making up 28.9 per cent of the boards, up from 12.5 per cent when the campaign started in 2010.
Despite her adopted homeland, Trenowden calls herself "100 per cent Haligonian" and returns to Nova Scotia every August with her husband and two children.
She grew up in the working-class neighbourhood of Fairview, and went to Halifax West High School.
After completing a business degree at Queen's University in Kingston, Ont., Trenowden was offered a one-year internship with IBM in Hong Kong.
"It was 1989, just after Tiananmen Square," she says, noting that she had never been outside North America. "It was quite a big eye opener for a small town Haligonian who'd lived in Halifax and Kingston."
Trenowden then moved to Toronto, which she says felt boring after a year in Hong Kong.
On a whim -- and with a ticket from a friend -- she went to London for a long weekend and managed to land a job as a technical stock market analyst.
"I knew nothing about stock markets at all but managed to learn this job," Trenowden says. "I did that for almost a year but really didn't enjoy it at all."
Then she was offered a "brilliant" job as an emerging market equity analyst with Citibank, sparking a passion for international business.
Still, she confronted sexism in the corporate sector, with an old boys' club culture persisting in many of the top financial companies.
"The environment in the early 1990s in London on a trading floor was very, very sexist and there were not a lot of women," she says.
She soon fell in love with an Englishman, and had two children. In 2006 she turned to corporate banking and moved to a "very traditional bank" with few female leaders.
"I had an opportunity to start paying back and to create mentorship opportunities to help the younger women and hire more women," says Trenowden.
She'll find out in the coming days whether she'll go to Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle to receive her medal -- either from Prince Charles or the Queen herself.
Trenowden says her award is "particularly meaningful" now.
"I've been battling a very rare cancer for the past year and a half," she says. "My family has been absolutely amazing ... I consider the award belongs to them as much as me, especially my husband."
Rather than dial back her work, however, Trenowden says cancer has "helped with my resilience and given me a focus."
"Doing things like this work on gender diversity give you such a sense of purpose."
