Authorities have released an image of the simulated weapon officials say NYPD cops encountered a robbery suspect holding when they stormed a T-Mobile store in Queens this week, discharging 42 rounds in 11 seconds.

The picture released Thursday shows an item that from any distance could appear to be a real gun; it is black and about the same size with a ribbed grip. The barrel says Colt 1911 TARGET, a quick Google search for which indicates the product is available for online purchase on sites like Amazon and Walmart.

It's what NYPD Det. Brian Simonsen, 42, and his sergeant, Matthew Gorman, saw the suspect, 27-year-old Christopher Ransom, holding when they responded to a 911 call about a masked man with a gun at the phone store in Richmond Hill around dinnertime on Tuesday, officials have said. The two officers were working on an unrelated case in the area, but responded since it was nearby. 

Also responding: six uniformed NYPD officers, authorities said. NYPD service members fired a total of 42 rounds in 11 seconds at the scene. Simonsen, a married 19-year NYPD veteran, was hit once in the chest. He later died. Gorman was hit once in the leg; he remained hospitalized early Thursday but was stable.

The suspect, a 27-year-old man with an extensive criminal record, was armed with an imitation firearm, O’Neill said. He was wounded and is hospitalized in stable condition.

“Make no mistake about it, friendly fire aside, it is because of the actions of the suspect that Det. Simonsen is dead,” O’Neill said.

I think maybe its the fault of the people shooting at their co-workers that the co-worker is shot. but I'm not a cop, I don't have the advanced training in murdering people so what do I know.

In 1967 the Daily Telegraph, no less, produced a special on ‘the New Culture of Beat City.’ The prince of it all, perhaps, was a roly-poly poet and painter named Adrian Henri. She came here in 1966 to the Bluecoat Chambers and had a “happening”. I had never been to a happening before, but it sounded very exciting and mysterious and avant garde so I went along. She invited members of the audience to wrap her up in bandages, so that is why I touched her before John Lennon did. I was doing her feet very delicately while Adrian Henri was doing the top half. She was covered in all these bandages and I remember John Gorman of the Scaffold shouting out, “You’re wanted on the phone!” ‘You could really see the influence she would have on John Lennon’s work. She had the black bags on stage and she invited people to come up on stage and take their clothes off inside the bag. About eight people did. It was an entertaining evening which went on for about two hours. Part of it was just watching her eat a tuna hsh sandwich. At the end of the happening she put a vase on the table and her husband Tony Cox smashed it and invited people to come up and take a piece. So I did and Yoko Ono said, “I want us all to meet in ten years’ time and piece this together.” I’ve never met her since.’

I’ll get back to my personal reasonings on these but I do want to start with our main four. Also like, I am not gonna get these perfect but I’m gonna try to at least stay consistent with look, ages, and acting range.

Ruby - Camren Bicondova. Now I know that she doesn’t really act anymore but she just strikes me as Ruby. I’m kinda trying to stay in the 20s-30s range for this and idk have it be like set after canon or something so the ages don’t feel too off but that’s beside the point. She’s most well known for her role as Catwoman in Gotham, and I really think she can have that young and playful but also serious when the moment calls for it vibe.

My other choice for Ruby would be Emma Myers. Her energy in Wednesday as Enid just felt Ruby to me? Idk how to explain it. Short hair, vibrant energy, but can get down to business when the moment calls for it.

Weiss - Anya Taylor-Joy. Having been in The Menu, The Queen’s Gambit, Last Night In Soho, The New Mutants, and as Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, she really has a wide range in her acting. Being snarky but also somber is certainly in her range. I really thing that she also bounces off her costars really well.

Blake - Zendaya. Okay stick with me here, MJ from the Spider-Man “Home” Trilogy is Blake. That quiet and reserved but also snarky and quick witted energy. Idk it just feels like it fits so well. Also I don’t want this fan casting to be more pale than Weiss with sun lotion on so yeah.

Yang - I’m actually gonna take this one from the SYTO fancast, Leah Lewis. She fits into the age range of the other girls, she has that Yang energy of being a bit of a party girl, and most importantly, is that she’s Chinese which is already doing more than the actually show for proper Chinese rep. Lol. Lmao even.

But uh yeah, I think I’m gonna leave it at that for now.

I will come back to this and maybe tackle JNPR and actually explain the choices at the top and also maybe do Ozpin, Glynda, and Ironwood.

ANC Commissioners Elected

My sincere thanks to the over 1,000 of you who marked my name on your ballot.  Across the rest of 6B, David Sobelsohn, Jerry Sroufe, and Edward Ryder are my fellow re-elected Commissioners, while Tyler Wolanin, Anna Krebs, Sam Pastore, and Karen Hughes are the new incoming commissioners.  Finally, we ended up with two write-ins contesting 6B04.  I look forward to working with whichever one, Matt Miller or Brian Gorman, ends up on top when the Board of Elections counts the write-ins. 

Watkins Playground Repairs on Schedule

DC Parks & Rec confirmed last week that they will be spending the money Charles Allen earmarked to upgrade the playground and basketball court at Watkins Elementary.  They’re still taking community input, so please email Lawrence.davin2@dc.gov with the subject header “Watkins Playground” if you have ideas.  I’m delighted to hear that DC Parks & Rec is already meeting with classes of Watkins students to get their input on the playground.  They’re also going to check the entire fence to make sure we don’t have any other weak sections, and adjust the lighting so that it lights the field and the sidewalks, and not the neighbors’ bedrooms like it sometimes does.  DC Parks & Rec also confirmed that Monumental Sports (AKA the Wizards and Capitals) has committed in writing to using their own funds to upgrade the roller-hockey rink simultaneously (details are at https://dgs.dc.gov/page/watkins-playground-and-park-improvements).

Trees

The DC Dept of Energy & Environment is launching another round of tree-planting.  If you’d like a tree on your private property, see https://doee.dc.gov/riversmart for details.  If there’s a spot on public property (including the grass strip between the sidewalk and the street) where you’d like to see a tree, go to 311.dc.gov, select "Grass, Park, Recreation & Trees," and you should get a quick response.

Good news: DDOT finally came back and fixed the sidewalks, and should be 100% done in a few days.  And DC Public Works has now assured me that removing that giant bag of dead plants has been “escalated” to the “Prowl Team” by the “Associate Administrator.”  Here’s hoping that the saga of our messy intersection is about to reach a satisfying ending.

ANC Meeting on Tuesday

Our next major ANC meeting is Tuesday, 7-10 p.m., at both 700 Pennsylvania Ave SE and online via Zoom.  (Login info and full agenda are at https://anc6b.org/).  In addition to the usual topics, we’ll meet the new community contact for DPW Sanitation, hear a presentation on Brent Elementary’s modernization, and discuss a DC Council bill that could make it easier to recycle bottles in DC.

Biden caters to 'far-left' dark money groups with Supreme Court 'gimmick,' critics say

President Biden’s push to impose radical changes to the Supreme Court caters to the left-wing base of the Democrat party from an administration that was once billed as a "moderate," critics argue.

On Monday, Biden and Vice President Harris, who is now running at the top of the presidential ticket for Democrats in November, backed drastic measures for Congress to adopt, including term limits, ethics rules and a constitutional amendment to limit presidential immunity.

Biden, in an op-ed published in the Washington Post, said he has "great respect for our institutions and separation of powers" but "what is happening now is not normal, and it undermines the public’s confidence in the court’s decisions, including those impacting personal freedoms. We now stand in a breach."

The move marks a nearly 180-degree pivot for Biden, who had generally bucked plans even from within his own party to make such changes to the high court.

During the early years of his political career in the Senate, Biden called President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s plans to place term limits on older justices and packing the court "a bonehead idea." Packing the court, or court packing, is a term for increasing the number of justices on a court.

On the campaign trail in 2020, he resisted calls to expand the size of the court, saying that it would undermine its credibility.

With Monday’s announcement, Biden hasn’t said he wants to pack the court. But on his way out the Oval Office door, he’s endorsing plans from the most radical wing of his party.

"The far-left calls to destroy the Supreme Court were answered first by a candidate desperate to save his failing campaign," said Carrie Severino, president of Judicial Crisis Network.

"Now they will be championed by a candidate who needs to cater to dark money groups in the Arabella Advisors network like Demand Justice, Fix the Court and a host of other pop-up groups funded by liberal billionaires," she added.

Arabella Advisors is a dark money fund that feeds various left-wing causes. Notably, Harris’ communications director, Brian Fallon, is the former head of Demand Justice, which is an Arabella-funded group that advocates for court packing.

Fix the Court, another Arabella-connected group, pushes for term limits for Justices.

"[Biden is] trying to gin up his base with this gimmick," said GOP strategist Matt Gorman.

"The idea that Joe Biden would advocate for term limits is laughable. The left can’t stand that they don’t control the court, so they’ll do whatever they can to take it by legislative force," he said.

The ideological swing of the high court shifted when former President Trump appointed Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. The conservative block is certainly not always in a lockstep vote, but Democrats in Congress and in the White House have nevertheless claimed that about the Republican-appointed majority.

"President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris want to end-run the Constitution and destroy the Supreme Court because they can't control it," said Severino.

"Biden and Harris are declaring war on the separation of powers with this announcement," she added.

The Harris campaign did not respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

White House spokesperson Andrew Bates responded, "As he stands up for the rule of law and the integrity of the Supreme Court, President Biden is grateful for the support these proposals are receiving from bipartisan legal experts, members of Congress, and large majorities of the American people. 

'DANGEROUS' DEMOCRAT JUDICIAL ETHICS BILL WOULD ALLOW ANY 'JACKALOON' TO DEMAND A RECUSAL, SEN. KENNEDY SAYS

"Now, congressional Republicans have a choice to make: will they safeguard conflicts of interests on our nation’s highest court and help presidents remain above the law, or will they side with Joe Biden, conservative former judges, and their own constituents to protect principals that should override any partisanship?" said Bates. 

Notably, the Supreme Court last year adopted a new code of conduct after months of scrutiny from Democrats in Congress. 

"For the most part, these rules and principles are not new: The Court has long had the equivalent of common law ethics rules, that is, a body of rules derived from a variety of sources, including statutory provisions, the code that applies to other members of the federal judiciary, ethics advisory opinions issued by the Judicial Conference Committee on Codes of Conduct, and historic practice," a statement signed by all the justices said.

"The absence of a Code, however, has led in recent years to the misunderstanding that the Justices of this Court, unlike all other jurists in this country, regard themselves as unrestricted by any ethics rules.
