British Home Guard operating the Romney, Hythe And Dymchurch Railway narrow gauge railway as an improvised armoured train.
Originally built as a tourist attraction featuring miniature versions of standard gauge steam locomotives pulling passenger carriages, during the war, the railway, being so close to the coast and fearing the possibility of a German invasion, built this armoured train fitted with Lewis guns and Boys anti tank rifles.

Do You Remember? 2 |Chishiya|
Part 1
I am so sorry that this took long and seem rushed
"What happened in borderland?" He asked confused. "Wait no what is borderland?"
"I'm not sure how to explain it myself and honestly I'm still processing everything but you mostly know everybody you've passed for the past couple of days."
I looked at his face his eyes held confusion that burned right through my soul. I thought that if I could tell him crucial information everything would snap like turning on a light switch.
"I'll start by introducing myself since you never caught my name. It's (Y/n) (L/n)" I said looking at him dead in the eye. "We met at a hotel in Tokyo playing tag. That's where we first bumped into each other."
He raised an eyebrow when I said tag. I talked slower than usual so my words were heard carefully but not as if I was talking to a toddler or baby. He nodded so I could know if he was still listening.
"You were wearing a white windbreaker. You told me it was your favorite jacket you owned." I stopped to look at him. It made me cry inside seeing the confidence he had in borderland crumble to the ground. He gently tapped his finger on the table. "During tag, we had to run from a person wearing a horse mask with a gun and find the safety zone."
"A horse mask?"
"Let me finish" I put my hand up. "There were other people. A black-haired boy with a yellow and white shirt along with a light bluish jacket was the one who figured out how to find the safe zone. You helped him in the process along with another girl."
I pleaded hoping something would click. Maybe the beach? The prison? King of Spades? King of Spades? Cards. Cards!
"Wait actually." I looked around. "Stay here"
I got up forgetting about the IV I was connected to. The pole fell over making me stumble back and loud crash as I disconnected from it. I didn't care that it came out or caused some ruckus. I ran across the hall to the playing room for cards. I earned weird looks from other people but paid them no mind. I looked around to see if there were any cards around that wasn't uno. I finally saw a pack and grabbed it. I wasn't expecting to get a massive headache because of it but either way, I ran back to the table hoping he didn't run off.
"You stayed" I sighed in relief sitting down out of breath a little. I need to get back in shape soon.
"Cards? What's so important about cards?" He raised his eyebrow.
I looked through the cards to find the ones I needed specifically. Setting them aside from the rest. I held the King of Spades. One of the pivotal moments in the borderland between us both trying to save the other from the bullets. I placed it on the table in front of him.
"King of Spades. Shot people with an anti-tank rifle. You were the one who knew what type of rifle for some reason" I looked up at him. "You held my hand and we ran behind a car with three other people."
He hummed his tapping becoming faster as he stared at the card and he didn't look like he was gonna stop anytime soon.
"You pushed me in the car not going in because of a bomb. I walked miles to reunite with each other." He stared at the card lost in a trance.
I placed the Queen card down next to the King of Spades card so he could see it. He looked at the card staring intensely. He brushed his hands over the card's shaking at the new information he heard.
"The last time we were together we were both injured badly. We saw fireworks at the end and declined the offer to stay" I looked up a bit to avoid crying "Our final moments looked like a ending of a sad movie that would leave everyone crying for days."
"Did I protect you?" He whispered looking back at me eyes watering a little "Till the end?"
"Every time" I smiled sadly.
"I feel like I'm going to pass out," He said shaking.
"Wait calm down" I put my hands on his shoulder and one under his head to avoid him slamming it against the hard table.
I called for a nurse and they took him back to his room. I followed and decided to wait till he woke up. The nurse scolded me for making the IV come out and reinserted it in my arm. I leaned back on the chair waiting for Chishiya to wake up. I tucked a piece of hair that was on his face.
"If only you knew the pain of falling back in love in another world." I sighed smiling sadly letting a small tear drop down my face. "I'm jealous that you don't remember so it wouldn't be painful but I'm mad at the same time. I hate crying in front of people but I guess you can't help it." I whispered in a bittersweet tone.
I pulled my hand away seeing his face scrunch up and he kept moving as if he was having a nightmare. I frowned I've only seen this once and that was after a close call in a game. I would love to hold his hand or run my fingers through his hair but he doesn't remember our relationship. All I could do was watch in agony. I went to leaning against the chair convincing the nurse to let me stay. After telling her I would sneak out anyway she agreed hesitantly and annoyed.
"Chishiya we can't stay around here anymore"
"What do we do we are separated from the rest"
"Don't just stand there let's go!"
"No you go ahead," He said pushing you in the car. "I'll meet you soon I promise"
"No no no you can't do this to me! We promised to be with each other!" You cried trying to open the car door to get out. "Let me go!"
"I'll be okay just trust me" He smiles looking at the (H/c) girl as the car drives away. "If I die I hope you forgive me"
—————-
"Chishiya?"
"( Y/n)?"
"I'm so glad you're okay"
"I thought you died"
"You should know I don't give up that easily." He grinned lazily.
"Nasty isn't it," The girl said.
"You gonna bleed out," He said panicking wincing himself as he moved.
"Hey hey" She stopped him from trying to push on my wound to stop the bleeding
"Stop," He said as he fought back.
"You're hurting yourself," The girl said finally getting his hands fully off of her holding them tightly. "You're injured too"
"I don't care you are more important to me," He said "I can't lose you and let you die"
"I'm always going to be by your side "
"I wish we met before all this so we'd have more time together"
"I can't help it"
"We'll get out of this and see each other again"
"Thank you"
——
He woke up in a cold sweat groaning as he held his head. He looked over at the card pack he brought to his room he then looked over and saw me sleeping on the armrest. He smiled lightly. Did his head hurt? Yeah. Did he care? No. He stood up putting a blanket on me from his bed.
"I'm sorry I forgot you" He whispered. "It won't happen again."
He sat on his bed he was supposed to leave today and hoped I would too. He thought about what he remembered. He hated seeing you hurt but enjoyed seeing you next to him. He thought about the random people he indeed see in his sleep. He watched the sunrise which started a new day. I woke up stretching accidentally hitting the pole. I looked at Chishiya expecting an unbothered look asking why I was here instead he smiled. Not his unbothered Cheshire smirk. A true smile that caught me off guard as I've only seen him smile like that twice.
"I remember us. I don't remember everything but I remember you" I teared up and hugged him. "Let's go out. Let's go see our memories"
"It's all destroyed how? No way they would let us through."
"Let's say I have some connections." He gave his sly smirk. "Trust me"
I will" I smiled. "I get released today."
"Me as well," He said standing up and getting into the habit of sticking his hands in his pockets once again.
"Yup, I don't need anymore according to the nurse."I smiled "I'm going to go back to my room wait here"
He nodded and watched me leave. I passed by people with whom I had big memories but never remembered their names. Once I made it to my room I grabbed my clothes and broken phone that couldn't be used again. I sighed annoyed that I needed to get a new one since I just bought this two months ago. I grabbed the other clothes they brought to me in a bag. I pressed the red button and waited for the nurse to clear me.
"Seems like you are eager to leave I heard you stayed in another room." The nurse said as she freed me from the IV.
She told me to sit down and I did she told me to follow her finger and put a light in my eye to make sure it was dilated right. She checked my reflexes which became perfectly fine. She looked in my ears and made me take a hearing test. She told me to walk in a straight line and one on my toes. She checked my heart and smiled.
"Well Ms. (L/N) you are free to go make sure to change your bandages two times a day with this cream," She said giving it to me. "Don't do any extreme movements until you are fully healed."
"Thank you so much," I said eagerly.
"Take these just in case you don't have any gauze"
"Thank you again."
"Have a nice day remember if you feel sick please contact us"
"I will you have a good yourself," I said waving goodbye as I walked to the front desk.
I saw Chishiya talking to the receptionist as he signed the paperwork. He looked over at me putting his hands in his pockets his sly smirk. I walked up to the desk.
"Name?" The receptionist asked.
"(Y/n) (L/n)" I said looking over at Chishiya.
"There's quite a bit of things to sign." Chishiya chuckled as I saw the stack of papers.
"Okay, but all I have to do is sign them right?" I asked nervously. "Nothing else?"
"Take home a statement paper and return within a month." He shrugged. "Oh and health insurance"
"I can't afford that," I said quietly as I finished signing the papers.
"Have a nice day" The receptionist said grabbing the small stack.
"You too," I said my eye twitching.
"Don't worry I'll help you" He casually said. "I'll do my best to lower it considering I could bypass the files since I know how to."
"Isn't that illegal?" I raised my eyebrow.
"Maybe"
"Don't get yourself arrested over me"
"I won't"
"Anyways where should we go first?" I asked.
"You know more than me"
"To the destroyed hotel it is," I said starting to walk there. "How exactly are we getting in?"
"Close colleague," He said again as we started walking to our destination.
We walked side by side our hands brushing each other as we grew closer and closer. We stopped in front of yellow caution tape. He looked around saw the cost is clear and went underneath it.
"What are you doing" I whispered.
"Come on we'll be in and out," He said waiting for me to go under.
"We better not get arrested," I said sternly.
"We won't" He simply shrugged. "Lead the way"
"Fine just make sure no one see's us"
"I will"
I sighed losing track of how many times I have sighed. I looked around looking at the damage that was made.
"It looks unrecognizable," I said looking for the hotel. "There" I pointed.
"This is where we met," I said
"I was upstairs" He recalled the memory.
"Too bad we can't get inside"
"Yeah might be for the best though"
"Maybe," I said looking around. "Wanna move on?"
"Yeah"
"This road will forever haunt me," I said walking in front of the intersection.
"I'm just glad we all ended up living"
"I'm glad you did," said rolling my eyes. "You trying to act like a hero was scary"
"I still survived"
"Luckily," I said staring ahead.
"It's over now"
"I know but I'm still mad at you," I said jokingly.
"Oh well" He shrugged smiling a little.
"When are you heading back to work?" I asked looking around.
"To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if I go back next week" He sighed. "Especially since the hospital is packed"
"Isn't that too soon?" I asked.
"They don't care"
"Guess it just shows how important you are," I said trying to cheer him up.
"Guess so" He chuckles and stops.
"What's wrong?" I asked stopping with him.
"Let's find everyone that was close to us," He said.
"That would be amazing to hang out with them rather than strictly focusing on surviving." I smiled.
"Also" He looked away.
"Also what?" I replied confused.
"Let's give us a try"
"What do you mean?"
"Let's be together here" He grabbed my hands looking at me. "In the real world"
"I like that," I said tearing up. "I thought you'd never ask"
"I'll never break any more promises"
"You better not," I said gently hitting his shoulder.
"I love you" He smiled.
"I love you too," I said back as the sun started to set giving me closure.
He leaned down and kissed me. It felt nice I could feel the sincerity and happiness. The sun felt nice as it slowly started to set the golden hour making Chishiya's face glow showing his perfect face.

Inventor au when Izuku and Overhaul meet
Overhaul: with the bullet that just hit you, your quirk is now rewind thanks to the blood of Eri
Izuku with the bullet falling to the ground: well 1. I’m quirkless so your bullet would probably do nothing. 2. I have a small portable force field around me so even a anti tank rifle will barely do anything and 3. You said it rewinds things thanks to Eri
Overhaul: Well yes her quirk rewinds things to a previous state of being. I figured out of to make it rewind a persons quirk to not even existing. I even figured out how to give quirks back with it.
Izuku: So let me get this straight. You figured out her blood could rewind a person and your first thought was to blow her up to get her blood
Overhaul: you don’t understand my plan at all boy. I plan on returning power to the yakuza and the criminal underworld we control
Izuku: Oh yeah and traumatizing a literal child is a great way to do it. You could have cured cancer, life threatening injuries, Illnesses, and your first thought was to traumatize a literal child.
Overhaul: didn’t even think about that. Well my plan-
Izuku: You didn’t even think about that! You know what (shoot him back the the bullet)
1 hour later
Aizawa: Midoriya we here to- (Izuku repeatedly punching Kai In the face)
I support this decision, but it probably won't happen like this. I do very much like this though.

Israel kills children, damages infrastructure in West Bank
Reported by -
Tamara Nassar Rights and Accountability 16 June 2024
A warning on 4 June from the UN human rights commissioner that “unprecedented bloodshed” in the occupied West Bank must come to an end has gone unheeded.
The Israeli military, at times in collaboration with Israel’s Border Police and Israel’s domestic secret police Shin Bet, has continued to conduct deadly raids into the occupied West Bank, wreaking havoc to private Palestinian property and civilian infrastructure in the process.
An Israeli military raid into Kafr Dan village west of Jenin in the northern West Bank killed six Palestinians earlier this week.
The invading Israeli forces used Energa anti-tank rifle grenades against a home belonging to the Abed family, killing three, Saqr Aref Abed, Mustafa Allam Mirie and Ahmad Muhammad Abu Obeid.
Others killed during the Israeli attack and confrontations in the village include Ayman Abu Fadalah, Muhammad Hazza Mirie and Ahmad Muhammad Samoudi, 17.
On 11 June, Ahmad was with another child, allegedly carrying homemade explosive devices as they waited for Israeli armored vehicles to pass by on a road in the center of Kafr Dan.
An Israeli sniper shot at the two children from a distance of 100 to 150 meters with six bullets, according to Defense for Children International - Palestine.
One bullet hit Ahmad in his leg, and he collapsed and started pleading for help. The other child was able to flee though he was injured in the thigh.
The Israeli sniper shot towards Ahmad again, striking him in his chest and head.
An Israeli military vehicle then approached Ahmad, and the Israeli driver stepped out and shot the child three more times.
The driver of the military vehicle remained near him for a few minutes as Israeli forces blocked a Palestinian ambulance from reaching Ahmad as he lay wounded on the ground.
“Israeli forces shot Ahmad, waited until he fell to the ground, then shot him several more times, then blocked paramedics from reaching him until they were confident he bled out,” said Ayed Abu Eqtaish, accountability program director at DCIP.
“The United States must stop sending weapons to the Israeli military that are used to kill Palestinian children without restraint, whether in Gaza or the West Bank.”
Ahmad is the older brother of a 12-year-old boy who was shot, and later succumbed to his wounds, during an Israeli raid in Jenin in September 2022.
Mahmoud Muhammad Samoudi had allegedly thrown stones at Israeli vehicles when Israeli forces opened fire at the group of youths he was a part of.
Elsewhere on 10 June, Israeli occupation forces raided the village of Kafr Nimeh, west of Ramallah, and shot and killed four Palestinian men and injured others.
Israeli armored vehicles invaded the Kafr Nimeh village, raided homes and commercial stores, confiscated surveillance cameras and set up a checkpoint at the village’s entrance.
Israeli authorities had been pursuing two Palestinians suspected of setting fire to a vehicle and its trailer in the Sde Ephraim settlement “outpost” in the occupied West Bank overnight on 9 June.
Sde Ephraim was established on a hilltop belonging to the nearby Palestinian village of Ras Karkar.
While all Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are illegal under international law and building them is a war crime, what Israel refers to as “outposts” are often built without even Israel’s permission and are considered illegal under Israeli law.
The men killed were identified as Muhammad Raslan Abdo, Muhammad Jaber Abdo and Rashdi Samih Ataya, according to the Palestinian Authority civil affairs department, which did not name the fourth Palestinian who was killed.
Local news sources named him as Wasim Bisam Zidan.
Israeli forces had previously detained Muhammad Jaber Abdo for two decades, and he was released in 2022. He was a member of Hamas’ armed wing operating in the occupied West Bank.
Israeli forces claimed to have found a makeshift sub-machine gun and other weapons in the vehicle.
Israeli forces then barred Palestine Red Crescent Society medics from reaching and evacuating the injured for at least two hours.
When one ambulance tried to reach, Israeli forces fired at it with live ammunition, puncturing its tires.
Israeli forces also opened fire on Palestinians gathered in the area, injuring eight with live ammunition, including a child.
Israel is now withholding the bodies of all four Palestinians its forces killed in Kafr Nimeh, UN monitoring group OCHA said. Israel withholds the remains of Palestinians killed during what it claims were attacks, intending to use them as bargaining chips in negotiations.
A governorate-wide strike on Ramallah and al-Bireh was reportedly declared the next day, on 11 June, in mourning.
Wreaking havoc on a refugee camp
Israeli forces invaded the al-Faraa refugee camp in the foothills of the Jordan Valley in the occupied West Bank accompanied with military bulldozers in the late hours of 9 June. Israeli forces briefly withdrew from the camp at dawn the next day but stormed it later with large reinforcements.
Israeli forces also invaded several other neighborhoods in nearby Tubas, before withdrawing completely on the afternoon of 10 June after a 16-hour operation, which saw armed Palestinians defend the camp from the Israeli invaders.
Soldiers raided homes in the refugee camp and used them as sniper and observation points. Bulldozers partially damaged some homes.
A 16-year-old Palestinian child, Mahmoud Ibrahim Nabrisi, was walking out of an alley that led to the refugee camp’s main square when he saw Israeli soldiers stationed in a community center for disabled people in the camp, according to a field investigation by DCIP.
Mahmoud tried to warn people in the area of the presence of the Israeli forces. That’s when an Israeli sniper hiding behind a small hole in the building’s wall that the military created to observe and shoot from, fired at Mahmoud from a distance of 120 to 150 meters. Three bullets hit Mahmoud, one near his eye, one behind his ear and another in his leg.
Palestinian youth transferred Mahmoud to an ambulance, which took him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
As has often been the case with Israeli military raids in the occupied West Bank, which include highly destructive attacks on infrastructure, Israeli bulldozers damaged sewage, electricity and water networks during their invasion of al-Faraa refugee camp. Israeli forces also destroyed and bulldozed the refugee camp’s main square and road.

Israeli forces also surrounded the camp, preventing Palestinian residents from going in or leaving.
Soldiers burned three houses, partially destroyed two and burned four vehicles and destroyed another during their invasion of the camp.
Local media circulated pictures of a home in the camp after it was bombed by the Israeli army, as well as damaged and destroyed vehicles:

The Israeli military’s widespread destruction of civilian and public infrastructures leads residents to believe that the Israeli army is taking revenge on the camp by destroying it, Wafa news agency reported.
The Israeli military has conducted four major raids into the al-Faraa refugee camp since 7 October, killing 17 Palestinians, the news agency reported.
“Unprecedented bloodshed”
Earlier this month, the UN high commissioner for human rights Volker Türk said Palestinians in the occupied West Bank were “being subjected to day after day of unprecedented bloodshed.”
More than 520 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied West Bank since 7 October, including at least 504 by Israeli forces, according to OCHA.
Israeli settlers have killed at least 10 Palestinians, and another seven were killed by either Israeli army or settler fire.
Of those killed in the occupied West Bank since 7 October, 132 were children.
Israeli forces and settlers have injured over 5,200 Palestinians in the West Bank since 7 October, at least 800 of them children. One third of all injuries were by live ammunition.
Israeli forces and settlers have killed 51 Palestinian children since the beginning of the year, including two US citizens, according to documentation by DCIP.

About Asimov
Name: Asimov (Formerly Takefutsu)
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Classification: Artificial Adept (Formally Human)
Septima: Azure Striker, Azure Thunderclap
Affiliation: QUILL (Formerly)
Powers and Skills: Electrokinesis, Marksmanship, Skill in combat, Opportunistic nature, Generating shockwaves, E.A.T.R (Electro - magnetic Anti Tank Rifle), Greed Snatcher, Prevasion, Cerberus, Flash Field, Lightning Sweep, Mizuchi, Orochi, Voltaic Chains, Judgement, Voltaic Buster, Throwing Weapon- Flash Drones and Flash Dart, Astrasphere Assault, Cerberus - Orochi Combo, Septimal Surge, Astrasphere Typhoon, Luxcalibur Shuriken Launcher, Volt X Re:AGE
Background: The former leader of QUILL, and the original Azure Striker. Asimov was captured by Sumeragi as a child and was experimented on. Despite previously being a human in the past, his mistreatment from Dr. Kamizono and being treated like a monster caused him to harbor hatred towards all non-Adepts. During an accident that caused his powers to go out of control, he was able to finally escape, and eventually rescued another who was a victim of the Artificial Adept Project, the boy we know now as "Gunvolt."
Gunvolt's once father figure would soon turn into one of his greatest enemies, as upon the take down of Sumeragi, Asimov made his move and showed his true colors. After Gunvolt sneaks inside Babel and defeats the leader of Sumeragi, Asimov reveals his true desire: to destroy every non-Adept. After failing to convince the fellow Azure Striker and his friend to rule with him, using Copen's gun (whom he encountered, fought, and defeated on the way there), he attempt shoots both him and Joule dead, but only killing Joule in the original timeline. Although he tried to sneak back to Earth via Babel, Gunvolt manages to catch up to him and have a climactic showdown with Asimov, with Gunvolt being the victor. Before the final blow could be struck, however, Slur saved Asimov via a dimensional rift.
Now part of Slur's army to rule the Multiverse, Asimov once again tries to enact his plan to ride the world of non-Adepts, though discovering how there are other super humans other than Adepts in the Multiverse, his plan involves ridding the world of non-super humans.
Due to both the bitterness he felt upon having his plans foiled by the boy he once thought of as a son, and not wanting to lose to him again upon learning Gunvolt has joined RiFT's team, Asimov has gone far enough to become the same kind of monster that turned him and Gunvolt into adepts by experimenting on humans to create more artificial Adepts.

USA BASEBALL ONE-SHOT RPF 2: Mike's Boys (chapter 2)
(AN: Given the recommendations by a fellow Tumblr writer, I have created a second chapter of this one shot story. This is dedicated to recently retired Olympic silver medal pitcher Edwin Jackson of Team USA who retired from active play by the time of this writing and in celebration of the 23rd anniversary of the USA's Olympics gold in baseball in 2000. A third chapter may be on the way. Given the fact that Patrick Mahomes II's father played for the NPB team now known as the Yokohama DeNA Baystars and was himself a MLB veteran and also due to his former participation as part of the USA Baseball high school program trials, he and his Superbowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs will be included as well beginning this chapter - making it a NFL crossover.)
Warnings: War, language, blood, battle scenes
1030H EEST
With the briefing now over, the strategy for the 1st Battalion 78th Infantry Brigade Combat Team was finally set, with the full blessing of brigade leadership and battalion command. The operation entailed the battalion following the elements of the two battalions of the lightly armed 113rd Territorial Defense Brigade of the Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces in liberating the villages of Cherkas'ki Tyshky and Rus'ki Tyshky while the 2nd Battalion joins the rest of the forces from that brigade in the main road of the township. The goals are to help the brigade liberate the northern villages of Tsyrkuny from elements of the Russian 200th Motor Rifle Brigade of the Northern Fleet reinforced by a battalion of the Donetsk People's Militia's 1st Motor Rifle Regiment. They are supported by the M3 Bradleys of the armored cavalry squadron as well as the field artillery and air defense elements of the brigade. The battalion's strategy was to help defeat company or battalion sized elements of the 200th Motor Rifle Brigade and the 1st Motor Rifle Regiment as well as the 200th's T-80BVM MBTs of its tank battalion whose elements are in the village in a company formation, the rest of the companies are north of that area or on the main road alongside the rest of the SPG batteries as one battery is in the village equipped with the Msta tracked SPG. And also their additional role is to capture the village road junction located in the east of Cherkas'ki Tyshky which links it to Rus'ki Tyshky and the main road, which leads north to Borshchova and the border.
Basically the battalion's orders were to capture these two villages north of Kharkiv, pushing Russia's infantry and armor forces away from the city's suburbs, as well as artillery, as the 2nd Battalion moves on the main road alongside 3 battalions under 169th Corps' regiments (2 from 76th Infantry Division, one coming from the 901st Infantry) and word is now clear that a National Guard of Ukraine company is reinforcing the rear to help in the operation. In addition, their duty is to push away most of Russian artillery sytems futher from Kharkiv itself.
During the pre-combat brief, the company commanders were given their set orders for the day. A and B Companies would be the lead in the operation with D, E and F Companies, the latter assisted by CPT Jack Wilson, their founding commander, following them together with the battalion HQ company, with A Troop of the armored cavalry squadron and two tank companies of the armored battalion using a modernized M60 Patton and a mix of M8 AGS, M41 Walker Bulldogs and M555 Sheridans, as well as engineers helping in minesweeping and combat support ops and an air defense element mounted on Humvee platforms. The two field artillery battalions under the brigade would provide the much needed fire support using M777, M198, M108 and M109 systems and the portable Javellin system and other anti-tank systems in the anti-tank battalion, with batteries from the two assigned to the 1st Battalion set up on the rear and protected also by MANPADs and a company of TDF militias and joined by the two battalions' cannon batteries of M101 howitzers and NLAW and Javellin platoons of the heavy weapons companies. Three companies from the 1st battalions of the three regiments under 169th corps have been assigned to help 1st Battalion, the remainder to help the 2nd battalion clear the main road, as agreed upon that morning by their regimental commanders. Reinforcing them as artillery reserve are a battery of modernized M91 MLRS systems mounted on M35s - the HIMARS to be used when needed because the older M91s are similar to the BM-21 Grad systems the UGF has operated for decades.
Before their company commanders would talk about the operation, LTCOL Fenster, 1st Battalion commanding officer, spoke to his boys from the battalion and their attached elements in the presence of COL Bianco and some of the brigade staff: "Gentlemen, this morning is just the start of yet another operation for elements of the 1st Battalion, 78th BCT. But today is yet another glorious day in our unit's annals of history. This is the first task force styled-operation in our history as a brigade, with two of the battalions already fighting Russians and their allies from Donetsk with our Ukrainian brothers. We've done battlegroup styled ops before here, but now two of our infantry battalions are finally fighting together alongside the armor and artillery elements as well as support elements of the brigade present, for before this I've been given the orders from Brigadier General deRosa on his briefing call to the battalion command early today. Our task here, he said, is to remove Russians from the main highway of this township and its northern villages with the assistance of the Ukrainians of the 113rd Brigade and a company of National Guardsmen, helping to push back Russian guns from within range of the city itself and its suburbs and push these soldiers out for good away from it. In these past weeks, and even more today, all of us the men of 1st Battalion and the whole of the brigade are determined more than ever before to win this battle and the others to come for not just Ukraine but for our country and our NATO allies against the Russian aggressor threatening not just Ukrainians but ALL of us NATO countries at all fronts. In these past days, we've helped the 93rd Brigade do their jobs, now we've been helping these territorial militias as well as our fellow Americans in the International Legion. This is for their freedom and ours, boys. For the fallen in Bucha and all around this land, including those in the Kharkiv area, we will not stop our fighting with the Ukrainian people and her army, no matter what the costs. Understood gentlemen?"
"Sir yes sir" was the response of the boys.
COL Bianco then began to talk to the boys of the 6th platoon. Its commander 1LT Payton had stated that they are indeed ready once again, having perfected all they have trained for before in Irpin and Chernihiv with the rest of their company. This was the same sentiment shared by their XO and adjutant as well as its platoon sergeant. The colonel said that now would be a more better time for them to be better than ever, having shown their lot in earlier battles. "Now, gentlemen, its the time for us to show our strength once more in alliance with the Ukrainian people. I expect the best for you boys as you help the company achieve its objectives today, is that clear?"
"Sir yes sir" was the collective response. The colonel turned to the rest of the company stating his hope that the objectives of today's operations will surely be met with success.
"Captain Frazier," said the colonel, "I hope you and these personnel under your command achieve all the objectives for these operation, dead or alive. Not just America depends on this operation done. It is the Ukrainian people and our NATO partners and allies, and it will a big help for Ukraine if we flush out those Russians out of the range of Kharkiv."
"We will do our best, colonel," replied Captain Frazier.
"The same for us in B Company," then said Captain Arrietta. He said that they too will do their best to get things accomplished and the Ukrainians assisted in removing Russian soldiers from the village borders, limiting thus the Russian attacks on Kharkiv city itself. This is what captains Ober, Zimmerman and Cupp stated as well for D, E and F Companies of the 1st Battalion, detailing their readiness to follow the order of the day. Captain Wilson, now a part of A Company staff, remarked as well that what the lads of F Company did in these past weeks in Chernihiv in support of the Ukrainian forces relieving the Russian siege of the city stunned the battalion with their initiative and determination despite the young age of the boys and now they were ready to do it again.
Captain Judge then informed the colonel of his boys' preparedness for the combat ops they are about to do, saying, "Sir, given that all that the lads of the Bronx has gone thru, me and my boys are ready to fight for the nation and for the Ukraine. I have informed Colonel Boone that they are all prepared to fulfill the tasks for today."
Darren then informed him that he wishes the best as he prepares to help the 1st Battalion fulfill their objectives. He told him that they are assigned to help A Company led by his former superior, now Captain Frazier, to clear out Russians from Cherkas'ki Tyshky and support the Ukrainian offensive there.
1LT Aaron Nola of A Company 1st Battalion 83rd Philadelphia said the same. Given that they too were given the task to assist A Company, and that he has been given XO status in support of his commander 1LT Hoskins as his superior officer 1LT Harper has been called up to the colors because of his prior commitments before, he stated to COL Bianco that as part of the operation he felt proud to serve as part of the regiment raised and headquartered in Philadelphia, the birthplace of American independence, and that it was his duty to continue the city's heritage of leading in the defense of the nation in peace and in war. He also stated, "Being a New Orleans guy, I also bear in my heart the city's resistance in the War of 1812, and am ready to fight till the last with the boys from Philly."
The lieutenant from Sacramento then said, "No matter what happens today, colonel Bianco, we're ready to die carrying the arms of Philadelphia and the fighting legacy of her sons and daughters, sir. Most of all it is the American people, as well as the Ukrainian people already suffering after a few months of Russia's invasion, that we're ready to fight for at all costs. " Having served with the regiment since 2014 as an officer fresh from OCS, he became one of Bryce's deputies when he arrived in the city in 2019 on transfer from Washington. Since then he has served as one of his faithful comrades in arms. Alongside the company first sergeant 1SGT Muzziotti and his 1st platoon sergeant, SSGT Vierling, the two have carried on their duties to the company while Bryce is now at the 78th.
The same sentiments were shared by Captain Duvall of A Company from the 1st Battalion of the 72nd Atlanta. Raised in Louisville, KY, he has served as the company commander beginning late last year taking over from long time commander 1LT Freeman. He knew the importance of the cause they were fighting for and why the country has to help Ukraine now in its time of need. In his words, he felt that "missing families and friends at home, I knew I had a band of brothers ready to stand by me fighting for freedom no matter what the cost." His boys, assisted by 1LT Riley his executive officer and 1SGT Matzek the company first sergeant, are positioned to support CPT Arrietta and the B Company lads alongside SSGT Albies.
Then the colonel got a cellphone call from MG Scioscia.
"Make sure my boys from Tokyo are ready to lead the battalion for today," said the major general, confident that the men are ready to do it again in northern Kharkiv Oblast. They indeed needed that motivation badly from the overall commander of the Tokyo contingent in order to get the ball rolling for today's operations. He stated that Captain Frazier will be ready to lead the boys of 1st Battalion to the battle field once more, determined to continue on their winning ways in support of their Ukrainian brothers, who over these past few weeks have started to understand the Americans fighting with them for a singular cause.
"They will do their best, Mike. I'm confident these boys of yours together with mine, now fighting in the same unit, are committed to do their duties for the country and to obey the order given to them today to remove the remaining Russians from the Tsyrkuny area in support of the Ukrainians," replied Colonel Bianco. "I am truly amazed at what they did in past battles and am hopeful they will do it again."
"Good luck Colonel Bianco," replied the major general from Upper Darby. "Scioscia out."
After the call ended, LTC Fenster informed his operational commander that he's now ready to deploy the battalion for their operational goals for the day.
"Brigadier General DeRosa, sir, the 1st Battalion's ready to move out. We're ready to fulfill the orders for today's operation no matter what the cost, for the victory of the Ukrainian people, the very people we are fighting with today."
"Good luck gentlemen," replied the brigadier general. "Once more, America sends its prayers for your victories today and so does every Ukrainian. Do not fail this mission, boys, Ukraine needs this one and so does the USA. Move those boys now!"
"DeRosa, we will do our best, sir. We will not fail. We will not doubt all of America and Ukraine rooting for us once more," replied the commander. Then he presented his phone so that the boys will hear his order clearly to the battalion: to fulfill all objectives and help the 2nd Battalion, as well as the Ukrainians of the 113rd Brigade, clear Tsyrkuny township once and for all so that the Ukrainians will now be set to clear the areas north of Kharkiv from Russian forces with their support. Intel stated that the 1st Motor Rifles from the Donetsk People's Republic are moving out with a battalion of wheeled mechanized infantry to support the Russian 2nd Battalion of the 200th Motor Rifles, with elements of its 1st battalion and the 4th armored battalion in reserve as force multipliers. It is the duty of the Ukrainian 113rd TDB to push them out, and thus the 78th Brigade's 1st and 2nd battalions, as well as the 3 battalions from the 169th Corps regiments, have been tasked to assist them by all means. Thus the 1st Battalion must not fail in its objectives no matter what. The 3rd and 4th battalions, as well as the mortar and tank battalions of the brigade are also moving as brigade reserve to supplement and reinforce the formations as well as the Ukrainian forces fighting with them while the field artillery battalions will provide fires support and the air defense battalions will provide mobile and fixed air defense cover of the battlefield and protection of command elements.
After the call, the battalion commander replied, "We will do whatever it takes. Kharkiv's future rests on our efforts, general."
"Good luck LTC Fenster," answered the brigadier general. "And make sure these boys end the day safe and in a joint US-Ukrainian victory. DeRosa out."
"Good luck to you as well, brigadier general, sir," replied LTC Fenster. "We will continue to update via radio. Fenster out, Slava Ukraini."
"Heroyam Slava", replied the brigadier general.
"This is Major General Reagins speaking, colonel. Make sure these Russians are fucked when your boys fight them with the Ukrainians."
"We will do just that. I am confident than ever these boys will end the day with a win for Ukraine, sir", replied Darren.
The commander's Ukrainian interpreter informed him as well in English and then phoned the commander of the 113rd Territorial Defense Brigade that the 78th will soon be arriving to help reinforce their positions. He then phoned a member of the ILTD operating there to be on standby as the 78th too is helping in their combat ops.
With the order now granted to proceed, the 1st Battalion was now in battle mode once more.
"Is everything ready, sergeant major?"
"Yes sir, all systems go for this one," replied SGM Ronai.
"Has the Ukrainians of the 113rd Brigade and the International Legion been informed?"
The advisor said yes, adding that there's someone left a video message on his cellphone for the brigade. It's Malcolm Nance, the ex-US Navy SEAL turned soldier of the ILTD already fighting there with his fellow legionnaires, wishing the boys good luck. He had phoned brigade command this morning regarding their presence in the area.
"You heard the man, gentlemen," said LTC Fenster. "We have a battle to win in Tsyrkuny, to help the Ukrainians clear the Russians from this township and push them away futher from Kharkiv city, denying their artillery from firing directly at this city and thus save more lives. We must not fail this combat mission. It is imminent that we fulfill the tasks set by the brigade in conjuction with our Ukrainian brothers and the men of the International Legion fighting with them. The 2nd battalion is on the main road of the township and brigade command has told just minutes ago that the 4th and 5th battalions are being deployed as the reserve, while the tanks and artillery are ready as well to be deployed to support our main forces. Three more battalions, each from the 169th Corps, are also fighting with us. We expect heavy and tense resistance by the Russians where we are, but do not fear them, they know they will fear our guns, equipment, uniforms, everything that symbolizes our freedom, our country, and all that we stand for and that we're fighting shoulder to shoulder with the Ukrainian people in this the greatest hour that they are facing. Carried in our shoulders is a heavy burden of helping Ukraine defend itself from Russia and its allies. Now let's show the world our combine power once more to help defeat Russia in the lands of Ukraine and help it finally defeat this aggressor that has been terrorising this land for many years - and has been also been doing its best to obstruct and destroy ALL our freedoms around the world. For America and her people, and our newfound allies in Ukraine, we have a battle - and a war - to help win NOW no matter what. Understood, boys?"
"Sir yes sir" was the response.
"Slava Ukraini!"
"Heroyam Slava!", answered the gathered formation and the Ukrainian liasons with them.
"What's our battle cry 78th Brigade?"
"FOR GLORY!"
While this was happening someone had already arrived as well to the place: a member of the 59th Kansas City Infantry of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 610th Infantry Division, 20th Corps, nicknamed the "Chiefs" due to its Native American heritage and history, had arrived to join them: MAJ Patrick Mahomes II, whose father was a veteran of the 169th Corps and had previously been on secondment in Japan in a infantry battalion based in Yokohama, just south of Tokyo, in the late 90s. He arrived with his battalion mounted on the Stryker system as wheleed mechanized infantry - one of 4 in the regiment. The 2nd has been placed in reserve to help assist in the operation when needed. The major had radioed the 1st Battalion commander informing him of his presence. Wearing the usual red and gold armband with the heraldic arms of their home city, he informed the leadership present of his battalion's arrival.
"Lieutenant colonel sir, forces of the 59th Kansas City's 1st Battalion are ready to assist in your efforts."
"Who are you and who asked you to reinforce the 78th Brigade?" asked the commander.
"Major Patrick Mahomes II, sir, commanding officer of 1st Battalion 59th Kansas City. Been an executive officer last year since I was promoted Major, and now I'm a battalion commander. Colonel Reid, my commanding officer who's in Ukraine with his regiment stationed in Poltava, ordered me and my battalion to join the 78th north of Kharkiv out of respect for my father's service with the 169th Corps wth the regiment in Minneapolis. We've just arrived today from Kharkiv coordinate efforts to remove Russians from north of the city. I'm ready to help these boys win."
"That's Colonel Andy Reid of the 59th and his boys in Poltava?" asked MAJ Sogard.
"Yes indeed, sir, that's the colonel," Mahomes answered.
"You guys are lucky around. Tell your regimental commander the 1st Battalion will help the 78th Brigade Combat Team's elements here in Tsyrkuny. These wheeled APCs will help this brigade and the Ukrainians of the 113rd Territorial Brigade defeat those BTRs of the Russians and drive them out of the twin villages of Cherkas'ki Tyshky and Rus'ki Tyshky. We're counting on you guys to help them win," told the major.
"We will do our best today, sir. Slava Ukraini!"
"Heroyam Slava!" was the response by everyone.
"Looks like this Mahomes guy will be joining us today," said LTC Fenster. "These Strykers, also used by one of the battalions of the 78th, will be the ones that will hopefully arm the Ukrainian Army in the coming months, they will be needing them and all the other equipment we use to help them drive out the Russians. Gentlemen, I hope he will be of big help to us here. Coordinate your efforts and make sure he will be fighting with his boys on the ground as well. Is that clear boys?"
"Sir yes sir!"
The "mount up and move out" order then given, the 1st Battalion boys and those of the companies under the 1st Battalions of the 3rd NY, 83rd Philadelphia and 72nd Atlanta all mounted their vehicles. The artillery batteries of the artillery battalions and anti-tank crews of the anti-tank battalion under the brigade, the gunners of the infantry gun companies and air defense crews soon geared up to provide supporting fire and air defense cover to their formations at the right time, expecting Russian Mil and Kamov helicopters to fly in support of their comrades on the ground as the Bradleys and M113s soon sprang to life, with engines roaring, alongside the M60s and Abrams from the tank battalion and the self-propelled guns from one of the field artillery battalions getting the systems started and moving south to avoid Russian counter battery fire. At the same time MAJ Mahomes, mounted on his M1130 Commander's Vehicle's turret had finished radioing his regimental commander informing him of his battalions' readiness to lead the operation in support of 78th Brigade elements, before calling his father, retired sergeant first class Mahomes who is at Poltava with regimental command. With him are his XO, CPT Smith-Schuster, the battalion sergeant major SGM Girardi and several men under the battalion staff and the headquarters and HQ company, with the new A Company commander 1LT Kelce and his XO 1LT Buechele on their own Stykers with the rest of the formation. All 5 rifle companies and their cannon company, all told, are to join the fight of the 78th that morning with their Ukrainian counterparts, while the HHC remains with elements of the 78th's command. Following that he got a call from BG DeRosa later on regarding what his battalion would do that morning.
The 1st Battalion 78th BCT, its personnel (sans those of C Company) now mounted on their M2 Bradleys, began to prepare for battle like never before.
"Is everyone ready First Sergeant Gose?" called Captain Frazier on his M2 Bradley, on the commander's turret radioing his company first sergeant.
"We're all ready, sir," replied 1SGT Gose on his M113A3 Rise APC. "Same with my crew, we're ready to roll out."
He radioed 1LT Austin as well on his readiness to lead the platoon. He responded, "Able 1, we're ready. Captain Frazier, we're in it to win, Able 1-11's ready, including many of the Tokyo lads. Let's get this rolling now, sir."
"Able 2-11 ready," said 1LT Jackson on his radio. "When we will all dismount sir, give us the signal. The vehicle commanders and the operational armored column commander, 1LT Thames, will be ready to take over command to provide the mounted elements of the operation for Able Company under your command as the leader of the dismounted force. We will never fail you, captain, no matter what the cost. And so too, we cannot fail the American people nor the Ukrainians in which we've been grateful to stand by them these past months."
"Will do my best to signal you guys to fight with me as one against those Russians, lieutenant," Todd answered on his radio.
2LT Eddy Alvarez then replied on his radio inside the Bradley, "So am I, sir."
"Able 1-21 ready, sir, elements of 2nd Platoon ready to move out," said 1LT Alec Bohm.
"Confirmed sir, you guys will follow our lead," replied the captain. He was sure 1LT Austin knew of the readiness of his platoon to help prepare for the battle this morning.
1LT Dylan Crews then informed his commanding officer via radio, "Able 1-31 ready for the operation, captain. Expect that 3rd Platoon will be ready as well."
His deputy, 2LT Teel, informed the captain via radio of his boys' readiness to help their unit achieve all their objectives for the day.
"Able 1-41, reporting. We're ready as well at 4th Platoon," 1LT Bailey informed his company commander as well. He told the captain they too are ready to risk their lives for not just Ukraine but of their homeland as well and thus his platoon is ready to fulfill their mission.
The platoon second in command, 2LT Meyer, added, "The same for me and the other officers and NCOs assigned to our Bradley crews. They are ready since the last time they fought these bastards, captain and you known that. We're ready to fight them again to the last."
The 5th platoon commander, 1LT Brandon Crawford voiced his readiness replying: "Able 1-51 ready Captain Frazier. The men of 5th Platoon have entered battle readiness and will follow your lead."
His XO said the same sentiments of combat readiness. So did the other platoon commanders of A Company, including 6th platoon's 1LT Payton.
At the same time the platoon commanders of the other companies had reported to their company commanders of their preparedness to fight.
CPT Tulowitzki reported to his CO on his Bradley, "Captain Frazier sir, all of A Company has stated their readiness for the operation. We're all ready for the battle to start."
"Affirmative, Tulo. Let's get those boys moving, we have an operation ongoing."
"Roger that Cap."
"Captain Jake!" radioed 1LT Fowler on his Bradley. "Bravo Company is all ready for the operation."
"Affirmative Lieutenant Fowler. I hope the men are all ready for this moment. Major Gall is thinking of us as he studies his command course far away from the front right now."
The rest of the company commanders did the same.
Following the order to proceed by LTC Fenster, the infantry, mounted as usual in their M2 Bradleys, moved out of the assembly area and into the battlefield, with gunfire and artillery blasts increasing as the battalion's fighting elements moved north along Sadova Street. Their objectives are to liberate Cherkas'ki Tyshky and help the Ukrainian territorials. And joining them in their Strykers are elements of the 59th Kansas City's 1st Battalion, who are taking part as force multipliers for the operation, alongside armored elements of the brigade.

The Johnny Seven O.M.A. (One Man Army), made by Deluxe Reading for their Topper Toys line. This was one of the bestselling toys of 1964.
It was called Johnny Seven because it functions as seven different weapons: a grenade launcher (on the top); an anti-tank gun (the red shell on the side of the barrel was supposedly "armor piercing"); an anti-bunker missile (the green projectile on the end of the barrel); a repeating rifle (the 12 white plastic bullets seen in the magazine in the center of the weapon); a Tommy gun (a spring-loaded mechanical rat-a-tat sound generated by pulling back a lever and pressing the trigger); a cap-firing rifle; or a cap pistol (the pistol grip was removable).
The stock could be removed and the bipod folded to make the weapon smaller. At full length the Johnny Seven O.M.A. was three feet long and weighed 4 pounds (almost as much as a real-life M-16).
I almost got this puppy, albeit in used condition, when I was a wee tyke. One of me sainted da's co-workers had two teenaged boys who had received the Johnny Seven as a Christmas gift. The teens decided they didn't want it anymore (they had discovered girls - EWWWW!), and me da's colleague wanted to know if I'd be interested in the toy.
The man and his sons even brought the Johnny Seven O.M.A. to ur house to demonstrate it. I remember being super-excited, especially seeing how far the hollow "missiles" and "grenades" travelled. Me da almost agreed to the deal, but me sainted mum pooh-poohed the deal.
I think she was afraid I'd be using my sister and the family dog as targets, or shooting out windows. She was also probably concerned that the missiles and grenades would be going over our fence and into the neighbors' yards; given the extremely small size of our yard that was a very distinct possibility.
So yeah, another cool toy from the 1960s that I missed out on.
The Johnny Seven O.M.A. retailed for $7.00 back in 1964, the equivalent of about $70.00 today. The cheapest I've seen it on eBay is around $150.00. However, after my stint in the Army, where I got to work will all the real-life versions of this toy, I no longer yearn to replace this brief snippet of my childhood.

W3LCOME BACK!!!! WE'VE MISSED YOU SM!!!!!!! :DDDDD
Thank you!!! I missed you all too. (ノ´ヮ`)ノ*: ・゚❤❤❤❤ Oh btw just since we're talking rn, I figured I'd address a couple of asks you sent me on Sunday. 👍
I have an idea. Would you mind if I were to write a crossover fic for SAGAU (Self aware Genshin), SACR (Self Aware Cookie Run), Your Madcom AU? Recently self aware Aus have got me in a chokehold and it's got me thinking, what if all of these little shits were fighting over the player? It would be funny to see the contrast of the games because we have Cute little cookies, medieval magic welders, and big Murder Men. I think it would be hilarious. - 1/2 Adding into my last thing cuz I just realized, The madcom boys would be SO ENRAGED when they find out what happened to the player in the SAGAU Imposter AU. Them learning about how THEIR player was hunted down and executed. I NEED TO WRITE ABOUT IT. - 2/2
To start with the question, go right on ahead; I don't mind it at all, and I am absolutely fascinated by your story premise! :D (And honored that you'd want to write something relating to the AU too haha. <3) The Genshin Self-Aware AU is actually something that inspired me to start this one, since I'd been playing the game for a little bit before beginning to write and it just kinda sucked me into the whole idea of it. So naturally, this is very interesting to me already lol.
Also, you're right, the boys would be absolutely infuriated if they caught wind of how their dear, precious Player was treated in the Imposter version of the AU. I can imagine it'd make them wonder just how well these "vision users" could stand up to them. A little elemental power is no match for an anti-tank rifle, now is it? ;)
#I am extremely curious#It's so coincidental that i've been playing genshin again recently too lmao#ask#chat tag#boxstudios#It's like George Lucas said. It rhymes.

The Absurdity of Victoria: 4th Generational Warfare
There's this book called Victoria: 4th Generational Warfare and the initial name sounds really appealing at first glance. It's a glimpse into the madness of a man who didn't like to be proved wrong and hated how the world changed.
The "novel" - it really does not deserve to be called that - was written by William S. Lind. If you watched Lazerpig, you would completely understand. Now for the uninitiated, the author was part of a military movement known as the Reformists.
So to give a bit of background, when the Vietnam War had come to a close, the US military wanted to learn what it did wrong and what it could do to improve and develop its combat capabilities in the future. This is where the Reformists came into that picture and what they wanted was to sorta look to the past and try to emulate some of the tactics of the Vietcong or refuse to adopt more modern expensive technology for the "rugged" technology - this is a key detail that gets brought up throughout the novel. We do see their influence with stuff like the LAV for the US Marine Corps or their talking points surrounding the positives of the A-10 Warthog and the negatives of the F-35.
Everything would change when the 1st Gulf War happened. Main battle tanks wiping the floor with the Iraqis at 73 Easting or the Coalition Air Forces performing SEAD - Suppression of Enemy Air Defense. The Reformists didn't want these examples to be taken to heart but the proven effectiveness of the tactics and the successful application of modern technology had settled in the minds of contemporary generals. This meant that the entire philosophy of a low-tech approach to warfare proposed by the Reformists had been discredited and their reaction to this moment in history had made most of them go off the deep end.
Yeah, they went on a massive binge of coping with reality proving them wrong. This should really set the tone of what this book is about... among other issues that have not aged well.
So our first scene begins with the protagonist burning a woman at the stake. Her crime? There's no such thing as a female priest.
Welcome to Hell, ladies and gentlemen, where even the Devil would hold your hand to protect you from this nonsense.
Now I won't summarize the entire book in a single post because we could be here all day. If you want to take a look but also don't want to spend a penny on absolute trash, there are a couple of Let's Reads on the xenoforum of SpaceBattles. There, you can get some entertaining reactions from the posters there with a few gems of my own.
So, where would you like me to begin with the nonsense? Let's start with the author's hatred for modern technology and boy does it show up here. There's a concept in the book, "Retroculture" meaning that anything after the 1960s is invalid and not worthy of true civilization both technologically and socially. So picture that level in the original Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 where the Russians invaded the United States. If Lind was in charge of America's defense, he would try to issue out M1 Garands with iron sights and World War Two flak jackets to the infantry to face off against kevlar-wearing Russian paratroopers with assault rifles and modern optics. Then declare that the average American infantry would win because the Russians were a bunch of pussies for relying on modern technological advances.
This even applies to vehicle warfare on land, sea, and air.
Federal troops have Bradley IFVs? Deploy the T-34s with the shitty gun sights.
Pirates on fast-moving boats with machine guns and RPGs? Send in the torpedo boats of the 1870s.
Multirole fighters with anti-air heat-seeking missiles and autocannons? Bring out the airships of World War One.
Hell, the author has gotten to the point where he treats video games as morally horrible as drugs. The novel has a moment where you have hidden alleyways where shady-looking gentlemen in cloaks are trying to sell you hard copies of God of War 3 or Fallout New Vegas because the fun police think it's unChristian.
Do not get me started on the tactics and strategies.
youtube
It really comes down to Lind trying to peddle his Reformist nonsense. Even if you might find some form of meaning in supporting his points, he's incredibly selective about it. He will look at the Taliban's efforts in Afghanistan or the Toyota War and shake his head screaming, "They don't count!" because they're not white Anglo-Saxon protestant Americans.
The book has its moments where the characters emphasize light infantry to such a degree that they are practically the mainline fighting force because Lind doesn't want them to be bogged down by dragging helicopters and artillery. He forces the protagonist to relinquish the skies because he truly believes that air support is stupid. Yet, it has a funny opportunity that any air transports have to be escorted in friendly airspace because those "Muslim terrorists" have Ace Combat/Project Wingman pilots who can perform air operations deep in hostile territory. Shame that he doesn't realize the flaw in that part of the story. To go even further, the protagonist has to invade feminist California from New England and the most optimal choice is to go full Oregon Trail with authorial fiat despite the state's military having one of the best air forces in the region of Warlord America.
Then there are the action scenes. They're so god-fucking-awful to read through. I've put more effort into my fanfiction involving Frozen and Metro 2033. The reason he doesn't have good combat scenes is that he needs more room to make statements like how African-Americans have a natural affinity to agriculture thanks to their racial upbringing or women having a purpose in the kitchen unless they want to be shipped as an Arabian sex slave to break their independent thinking. It's also not helped when there's the inspiring "assistance" of the Russians and the Chinese because he would rather sell out parts of the United States to foreign authoritarianism than let it live with its "Marxist culture" within the borders.
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by a man who slept through briefings and has a massive distrust of the officer corps of all the branches.

big fan of unexpected eponyms! some personal favourites:
Pilates sounds like some Greek philosophical stuff but it's actually just named after its inventor, who was called Joe Pilates
Shrapnel, which sounds like it's about sharp stiff but was named after Lt. General Henry Shrapnel
the Boys Anti-Tank Rifle, named after Henry Boys and not for use by children, thankfully.
I love baking

The Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) was formed in July 1940 was the brain child of Major Ralph Bagnold, they began operating in September of that year. The LRDG under Bagnold's leadership specialised in mechanised reconnaissance and desert navigation as well as offensive actions and intelligence. The LRDG would help out special forces, most notably the Special Air Service (SAS). The SAS failed to attack enemy outposts by parachute, so they turned to the LRDG to trabsport them to attack desert outposts by parachute. The LRDG became known as 'The Lbyan Desert Taxi Service', but their deeds were far greater than a mere taxi service for the SAS.

SAS with sub machine guns
My SAS force needed updating for Bolt Action 3rd edition. I bought some SAS characters and a Ford Bofors truck from Perry Miniatures and another Chevy from Warlord Games, this chevy had an anti l-tank gun, but enough about them for the moment as they're a future project. The fact is I expanded my SAS to have more LRDG elements in it such as the anti-tank team and the mortar. I needed to add some more men to the SAS units I had so after a few weapon swaps (my Demolition teams are now no longer a thing currently) I had a new SMG unit and a couple more rifle guys. I undercoated in a desert yellow and used vallejo desert colours to paint them. I think they all turned out okay. They match the already painted models well. The increase in recommended points values for Bolt Action has meant I can fit more in my army which is a good thing.
Until next time
Happy hobbying!
