Gelboys: Thoughts on Episode 1

1) FINALLY!!!!

Oh my god, have I been waiting for this. After a long time, I’ll be watching this live as live as I can accomplish for a Saturday show (#momlife).

2) Baabin and Bas — Boss loves those B names, huh?

3) This episode was so stylistically refreshing after what we’ve gotten out of Thailand for the last nearly two years. I think I’ve been as excited for this series as I was for Moonlight Chicken, and goddamn does that feel like a long time ago.

4) As I rapidly, RAPIDLY approach middle-age, I realize that there will come a time when the culture of youth will totally bypass me, when I won’t have a damn clue wtf the youngbloods are doing and saying. I’m glad to say I can keep up with it for now vis à vis the visual and auditory chaos of this episode. However:

5) It’s just so damn thrilling and relieving that the pure hormonal appeal of real attraction hasn’t been forgotten, even by forever-online-and-youthful youths. I loved every reminder in this episode that so much of our lives are lived online — including for an older adult like Fou4Mod’s mom.

And yet, Fou4Mod and Chian are chasing each other — yes, much of it on their phones — but also in person, vibing, and teasing. I like how the show is reminding us that no matter how much time and work we spend online…. that the showing-up of life is still going to have to happen for us, in humanity, in person, to find happiness.

6) That being said, I look forward to learning about what kind of fucking online drama this next generation is going to get up to in this series.

7) Finally: what an homage to Bangkok already. I like that this episode (and hopefully the whole series) honors the insane chaos of the whole Siam area.

"The Paradise Of Thorns” starring Jeff Satur and Engfa Waraha, is set to premiere this year.

‘Thongkam’ and ‘Sek’, a devoted gay couple, have worked tirelessly to build a life together, including owning a house and a durian orchard in Mae Hong Son. Tragedy strikes when Sek dies suddenly in an accident, revealing that they were never legally married in Thailand, leaving Thongkam with no rights to their assets. The house and orchard now belong to Sek’s mother, who moves in with her adopted daughter ‘Mo’ and gardener ‘Jingna’. Thongkam must now fight to reclaim the fruits of his love and labor.

The film is written and directed by Boss Kuno, best known for his works with GDH 559 and Nadao Bangkok such as ‘I Told Sunset About You’ and more.

Finally a different and interesting plot...we are gonna cry a lot with this one...

Really liked the first episode! Loved how every aspect of Fou4mod's life is full of stickers- his guitar case, his phone cover, his headphones, his mother's car, his school bench and well, his bathroom too😁

Official Synopsis: FOURMOD (NEW Chayaphak), a high schooler yearning for a romantic relationship, finds himself being hit on by CHIAN (PIDE Monthapoom), a gel-nails guy who casually invites him to get their nails done together at SIAM SQUARE.

FOURMOD falls for him but soon realizes he's being put 'on hold' when he discovers that CHIAN is inviting BUA (Leon Brocco), a half-Thai TikToker, for gel nail sessions as well. FOURMOD decides to get even by asking for help from his close friend BABIN (PJ Mahidol), to get their nails done together in an attempt to make CHIAN jealous and experience being in the 'on-hold' status himself.

1. PJ Mahidol Pibulsonggram

Previously more known to the public as JJ Krissanapoom's little brother, PJ has recently gotten more public attention after starring in Good Doctor TH. He's also starred in PBS Thailand's Eightraordinary.

2. New Chayapak Tunprayoon

Thai QL audience may be more familiar with New Chayapak through projects like Netflix's Ready, Set, Love or I Promised You The Moon (the sequel series to I Told Sunset About You).

Fun fact: New Chayapak is actually a trainee under Nadao Academy before Nadao Bangkok got dissolved in 2022.

3. Pide Monthapoom Sumonvarangkul

If you've watched sports themed BL series Our Days before, you may remember Pide Monthapoom who plays Q.

4. Leon Brocco

GelBoys is Leon Brocco's series debut.
