I've got many thoughts about Top Form, actually, just not the structure to write them down separately and coherently ngghhhh.

First, I think a lot about the how it has adapted the original manga/anime in ways that both enrich the story and stay true to the characters feelings, I think the decision to step away from the whole non-con/dub-con aspect for the main pairing and instead offer moments that feel honest and kind was really smart.

I think about the commitment Boom and Smart dedicated to their roles and how attached to these characters they are, and how that adds to the overall high quality of it all, how they've payed attention to every detail and how well the story is being told.

I think a whole lot about the constant commentary it makes on real life celebrity culture and the entertainment industry, and how it tackles a lot of things that feel close and real to us, the current audience, like the homophobia actors face, the double standards of the fans, media manipulation, the predatory paparazzi practices, and how it goes hand in hand with the romantic side of the story.

I'm watching all of this develop hoping people listen, also.

Finally, I don't think I'll stop preaching the Quality™ of it all, the visual metaphors, the everything....

This whole sequence of Akin floating in a honey-dream space, as if being drowned by the sweetness of it all??​ Convincing himself he will wake up and everything will be gone, just as dreams do.

And then tying that together with the rooftop scene, where he accepts the fact that the love Jin is offering is real, it's not a dream, and not only that, but he is actually being himself, after so long of being just a mask of the expectations of everyone else...

God. Yeah. Storytelling my beloved.

I'm filled with a lot of thoughts, and they all converge with one another, but overall? I'm just really, really enjoying this show.

Caitlyn Kiramman can be a main character that goes through a massive character arc where she starts out as a happy go lucky enforcer who is naive about the system she works for, thinks she can change it from within, ends up falling victim to her own prejudices that she hasn't had the time or wherewithal to work through, contributes to the system she thought she was dedicated to change, make some serious mistakes and harm others, feel immense guilt and self hatred for those mistakes, directly betrays the system in order to atone for those mistakes, and people will still say Arcane has a pro cop message in season 2.

if im understanding the sequence of events correctly, cognouza successfully escaping the fall of aeor and surviving only to eventually get destroyed by the mighty nein is. sorry to say. kind of hilarious to me.

like. you flee the city as it is destroyed by the literal gods, like Actual Fucking Gods Meteor Storm-ing it up, you manage to escape with your skin intact, you float in the astral sea as a flesh city, but you survive, for a long time.

and then some idiots with a bright pink haversack and a dream (threatening) come in and beat you with the power of friendship and a manifestation of a huge egg dick. can you imagine. you survive the gods and then the mighty nein kill you. they fell ass over teakettle out of a huge tree. twice. they went to a fancy party and one of them spent the whole night high as balls and they still uncovered a huge spying plot that altered the course of a war. they tried and failed to do three-way rock paper scissors. twice. you were a part of aeor and escaped its downfall and survived the wrath of the gods and the betrayal of the betrayal gods and its aftermath. unfortunately the mighty nein had a friend who they miss dearly and some people they care about in a place you were threatening so. you know. game over.
