After last Saturday's game in Montreal, the Blackhawks were able to get a bounce back win tonight as they defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1.

The first period was scoreless between both teams, but the Blackhawks were able to outshoot the Maple Leafs 9-7.

It wasn't until the second period that Mackenzie Entwistle got the Blackhawks on the scoreboard first with assists by Andreas Athanasiou and Boris Katchouk; however, John Tavares tied the game up, making it a 1-1 game.

Corey Perry broke the tie as he scored his first goal as a Blackhawk (assisted by Alex Vlasic and Seth Jones).

During the second period, the Blackhawks were finally able to break their power play drought as Tyler Johnson scored his third goal of the season (assisted by Athanasiou and Kevin Korchinski, who got his first NHL career point) to give the Blackhawks a 3-1 lead going into the third period.

Taylor Raddysh scored an empty-net goal late in the third period, giving the Blackhawks the win.

Takeaways from tonight's game:

Hooray! The Blackhawks were able to do something with their power play tonight thanks to Tyler Johnson, who now has three goals so far this season. While it was good to see the Hawks do something with the power play, they need to continue to take advantage of the chances instead of letting them go to waste.

Taylor Hall returned to the lineup tonight after missing a game with a shoulder injury. In the third period, it looked like Hall had scored an empty net goal, but it was waved off because it was offside. Despite that, it was nice to see him back on the ice again and I hope Hall will get another chance to score a goal for his newborn son (who was born not that long ago).

Once again, the veteran Blackhawks stuck up for their younger teammates. In the first period, Nikita Zaitsev was hit by Noah Gregor which caused him to miss the remainder of the period. Connor Murphy dropped the gloves with Gregor soon afterwards because Gregor had hit Connor Bedard along the boards in his previous shift. I like how the veteran Blackhawks are sticking up for their younger teammates and not letting players from the other team push them around. I can imagine it must make the younger Blackhawks secure knowing that their older teammates have their backs on the ice.

I thought that Arvid Soderblom played very well tonight. He worked hard, made some good saves and was rewarded with the first star of the game. I hope that Soderblom can continue to keep up the good work.

The Blackhawks' next game will take place on Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche as they close out their road trip.

Additional Information: It is an epistolary novel that retells the voyage of the Demeter described in Dracula. It is also a companion novel to Dare Not Confess. In addition, it will have LGBT+characters.

Captain Aleksander Zaitsev and his crew are hired to transport cargo consisting of silver sand and boxes of earth. Their destination? Whitby. A simple task for an experienced crew. Their voyage is not an ordinary one as dreadful apparitions are sighted.

To prevent madness from infecting his crew, Captain Aleksander Zaitsev must uncover the mystery that lurks on board the Dimitri.

The crew members claim that something is hunting them down and its lair is somewhere on the ship. Captain Zaitsev tries to allay the crew's fears as he searches for answers. Yet he must hurry. For frightened men are dangerous. Especially when there is nowhere to flee.

“Quali terribili sofferenze mi è costata – e mi costa tuttora – questa sete di credere”: da Dostoevskij a Chernobyl, eremiti, folli e demoni nella letteratura russa

Una volta un professore mi raccontò di come in Russia, dopo decenni di comunismo e propaganda antireligiosa, i giovani cresciuti sotto la falce e il martello riscoprissero Cristo leggendo i romanzi di Dostoevskij. In effetti, dopo aver letto Delitto e Castigo ebbi come l’impressione di aver letto un libro su Dio; anche se l’autore non lo nominava mai, si avvertiva chiaramente la sua presenza, anche nelle scene più oscure, anche negli atti più abietti. Dio era presente, quasi che tutto il male di cui l’uomo è capace non fosse sufficiente a spegnerne la luce.

Questa “resistenza” di Dio la considero un tratto fondamentale della religione ortodossa. I paesi dell’Est Europa non possono dire di aver goduto un rapporto sereno con l’Altissimo: la loro storia è costellata di orrori indicibili, mostruosità tali che sarebbe facile considerare il mondo ortodosso come una terra dimenticata da Dio. Ma non è così.

Nel 1928 lo scrittore Boris Zaitsev compie un pellegrinaggio in uno dei luoghi più suggestivi della terra: il Monte Athos, una penisola verdeggiante a strapiombo sul mar Egeo dove vivono soltanto monaci. Laggiù si sente davvero la voce di Dio, e Zaitsev descrive questo suo viaggio nel libro Monte Athos (Castelvecchi): i racconti delle vite dei monaci, dei santi eremiti che si nascondono nelle celle sperdute sulle pendici dei monti, si mescolano alle albe nebbiose e ai cieli violacei della vastità del mare. Durante questo pellegrinaggio, è impossibile per Zaitsev non pensare alla sua patria, a cosa è diventata la Santa Madre Russia: alle storie miracolose di santi che convivono con gli orsi, si è sostituita la sanguinosa burocrazia dei Soviet. Perfino l’Athos resta qualcosa di così lontano che è difficile credere possa esistere un posto simile, dove Dio è visibile in ogni riflesso, in ogni brina mattutina, ed è facile perdere il contatto con la realtà. Ma un monaco, sollecitato da un viaggiatore che vorrebbe spazzar via i bolscevichi, risponde che il martirio della Russia è un segno di favore celeste. È difficile, anzi impossibile per noi laici comprendere il martirio. Qualcuno magari intravede i segni della rassegnazione, ma non è certo il caso. Gli eremiti mettono a dura prova il fisico e la mente proprio perché convinti che soltanto attraverso le privazioni ci si possa avvicinare a Dio, quasi che la religione riveli la sua essenza più vera nelle grandi avversità.

Gli stessi eremiti conducono una vita estrema, spesso nutrendosi di nulla e regalando quanto più possono ai bisognosi; uomini che vivono con appena due stracci buttati addosso, lasciati poi in eredità ad altri eremiti come vere e proprie reliquie (nel libro Gli eremiti del deserto, Quodlibet, 2016, Ermanno Cavazzoni racconta la vita di molti eremiti, fra realtà e fantasia). Compagno inseparabile di questi monaci è il Diavolo, che mai li abbandona per un secondo, ingaggiando una vera e propria lotta: “Per il monaco il diavolo è sempre vicino, qui accanto, con le fauci aperte, con gli artigli allargati: basta un momento di distrazione perché ci salti addosso. C’è anzi una speciale teoria: il nemico si occupa poco della gente qualunque. I suoi sforzi sono diretti contro quelli che si pongono scopi più alti: perciò lo attraggono particolarmente i monasteri” (B. Zaitsev, Monte Athos).

Io stesso, quando seppi che sull’isola di Cefalonia c’era un monastero, e sotto di esso l’antica cella dell’eremita San Gerasimos, volli vedere con i miei occhi. Il monastero si erge in una piana verdeggiante, vi si arriva scendendo lungo un viale alberato e il mattino sembra più bello, senza una precisa ragione. La costruzione è magnifica, l’interno è una festa di ori e icone coloratissime, ma in un punto si apre una piccola botola e una scaletta a pioli scende nell’oscurità. Laggiù, in un buco scavato nella roccia, si trova la dimora di San Gerasimos. Appena una tana. Risulta difficile credere che un essere umano, a poca distanza dalle splendide spiagge che sa offrire Cefalonia, abbia deciso di rinchiudersi di sua spontanea volontà in un simile tumulo di pietra. Eppure Gerasimos è rimasto lì per anni, e su quel niente di pietra è cresciuta oggi, come per miracolo, una magnifica chiesa; quasi che la grotta del Santo costituisse le fondamenta per la vita monastica.

Se nei paesi su cui sono passati gli scarponi chiodati dell’URSS sopravvive la religione ortodossa è anche per questo motivo: Dio si rivela nelle avversità, è quella linea di luce che brilla nell’ombra, che le dà una forma, che la rende meno spaventosa. È per questo che la letteratura russa è costellata di presenza demoniache, quasi una componente necessaria non solo per spiegare il male e la sofferenza, ma anche per trovare Dio. Francesco M. Cataluccio in Chernobyl (Sellerio, 2011) abbozza una carrellata di apparizioni diaboliche nella letteratura russa, fino a raccontare come persino il disastro nucleare in Ucraina fosse visto da alcuni come opera del Demonio.

La storia di quei giovani che scoprono Dio attraverso Dostoevskij è un’altra delle numerose meraviglie di cui è capace la letteratura. In Dostoevskij stesso, per sua ammissione, è insita questa resistenza. Egli si considerava figlio del suo secolo, dove l’ateismo era sulla via del trionfo: “Quali terribili sofferenze mi è costata – e mi costa tuttora – questa sete di credere, che tanto più fortemente si fa sentire nella mia anima quanto più fortemente mi appaiono gli argomenti ad essa contrari! Cionondimeno Iddio mi manda talora degl’istanti in cui mi sento perfettamente sereno; in quegl’istanti io scopro di amare e di essere amato dagli altri” (F. Dostoevskij, Lettere sulla creatività, Feltrinelli, 2017).

Non sono bastate le persecuzioni e la propaganda a fermare la ricerca di Dio. Anche nei momenti peggiori, soprattutto nei momenti peggiori, Dostoevskij, e con lui il cristianesimo ortodosso, sembrano dirci che Dio è ancora lì per noi, magari chiuso in una grotta in attesa che su di essa nasca una nuova Chiesa.
