In the city of Borba, there are four rather pretty Stations of the Cross, being this one - the Upper Square Station - the most interesting. Actually, this small chapel took the place of an earlier hermitage, dedicated to Our Lady of Nazareth, that had been built circa 1722 to provide religious services to the local inmates.

All four Borba's Stations of the Cross were built between 1755 and 1756, and all of them were (allegedly) projected by the same architect: José Francisco de Abreu.
