For all the highs this season they really fucking killed the hype in the end.
Like I'm sorry but Penelope continuing to write stalls all her fucking growth, and its just so the writers don't have to find actual ways out of drama they create, they always have a fall back for when things get too hard.
All this solidified for me was that the queen-their other fallback- was an unnecessary addition to the show, keeping a fraction of the fandom happy is more important than giving us fulfilling character endings, and that we have writers that are afraid to stand on their own. It also shows that Debling was a fucking hindrance and unnecessary because they should have been dealing with this mess way earlier and made a much better ending.
I liked the majority of this season but episode 8 is a fuck up, between her keeping her column, and them not even getting to live before shes popping out kids. Shes 20, hes 23, they could-and should- be doing so much more than cooing over a fucking baby before the 1 year mark of their wedding.
I still love these characters, but this show forgets what its meant to focus on. It gets ditracted with making dram, to the point where the couple that has one of the biggest hurdels is given more for no reason, and doesn't even really get over their main issue. It focuses too much on stories that add really nothing, and forgets to be kind to one of its leads.
This season, for all its potential, got cut at the fucking knees, because they refuse to let Penelope have substantial growth, or to let Colins emotions actually play out instead just deciding hes chill when it makes absolutely no sense. Colins feelings weren't just jealousy, they were anger, and hurt, and those are entirely forgotten by the end and...for what? To make pen stans happy? Thats fucking stupid.
Anyway, canons dead to me and I will be vtaking these two with me because I love them dearly

„And now at last it comes. You will give me the Ring freely! In place of the Dark Lord you will set up a Queen. And I shall not be dark, but beautiful and terrible as the Morning and the Night! Fair as the Sea and the Sun and the Snow upon the Mountain! Dreadful as the Storm and the Lightning! Stronger than the foundations of the earth. All shall love me and despair!“
A take on Galadrielˋs Test. Turns out I got my quotes mixed up lol
„Instead of a Dark Lord, you would have a queen, not dark but beautiful and terrible as the dawn! Tempestuous as the sea, and stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love me and despair!”

i'm coming in late but i must unrecommend the Dreamers series by David and Leigh Eddings for being bad. The four books are basically just carbon copies of each other, and are so repetitive that I could accurately predict what was going to happen by the third book. Also they rely on deus ex machina to a ridiculous degree, to the point where any conflicts were basically immediately resolved and nothing actually happened. I read the series when I was fifteen and a much less discriminating reader, and even then I thought it was bad. I've never read any other of their novels just because of how incredibly dull it was.
Eddings is one of the really big epic fantasy authors I know entirely by reputation, and also that reputation is 'had one story he spent his entire career writing different iterations of'. So like, this tracks yes.

So the first floor of the school where my little sister teaches ended up almost entirely underwater during the flooding this week, and they lost basically everything that was down there, including the actual walls to the classrooms.
If anyone could send a few dollars their way, I'd be beyond grateful, and I know my sister would be too.

A group of Wikipedia editors have formed WikiProject AI Cleanup, “a collaboration to combat the increasing problem of unsourced, poorly-written AI-generated content on Wikipedia.” The group’s goal is to protect one of the world’s largest repositories of information from the same kind of misleading AI-generated information that has plagued Google search results, books sold on Amazon, and academic journals. “A few of us had noticed the prevalence of unnatural writing that showed clear signs of being AI-generated, and we managed to replicate similar ‘styles’ using ChatGPT,” Ilyas Lebleu, a founding member of WikiProject AI Cleanup, told me in an email. “Discovering some common AI catchphrases allowed us to quickly spot some of the most egregious examples of generated articles, which we quickly wanted to formalize into an organized project to compile our findings and techniques.”

Hey bb girl come here lemme tell you something. If you hate stickers and sticker residue on your books, I have the easiest solution for you right here- lighter fuel + razor.
I use Ronsonol (but I imagine any lighter fluid works) and a handheld razor, preferably in a tool made for handling a razor (i use the Stanley blade holder, so easy to hold) with a paper towel on hand to get rid of residue.
All you need to do is dab some lighter fluid on or around the sticker (it will likely be visible as it absorbs the fluid) and then peel it off with the razor. Or if its an easy one, just use a fingernail and take that sticker right off. Do this in a room with air circulating, and the lighter fluid will dry up in seconds. If you put just enough on there, it won't stain your paper at all, drying and leaving a perfect cover. If there's any leftover sticky, I pour some lighter fluid on the paper towel and wipe the residue until its all gone. If there's just residue from someone trying to take the sticker off normally, a mix of lighter fluid soaked paper towel and gentle razoring is an easy fix. This works for all sorts of stickers and tape, but be careful, if there's already a puncture in the cover then the lighter fuel will soak in and leave a small spot.
There are pros and cons, but this is the easiest method and we use it all the time at my bookstore. Genuinely my favorite part of working with books. Make that bitch More flammable babey!!!!!!!!!

Fish for Garbage Project - Cover
The first of several illustrations for a children's activity book for Utah-based Fish for Garbage. #illustration #forkids #conservation #nature
I recently completed a project for Utah-based Fish for Garbage, a nonprofit organization that mobilizes communities through waterway cleanups and watershed education. They commissioned me to create a series of illustrations for a children’s activity book. This image, the only full-color illustration, was for the cover.

okay so I was doing a Research™️ about ancient Greek etymology as one does and I found some Things that made me want to Violently Claw My Arms Off please allow me to force feed you my discoveries
So there are 2 words for "not" in ancient Greek, depending on the context: ou and mē. Having introduced himself in the Cyclops episode as " ou tis", or No-man, he then stabs Polyphemus in the eye. When Polyphemus' brothers come to check on him, they say this:
"... surely no man [mē tis] is carrying off your sheep? Surely no man [mē tis] is trying to kill you either by fraud or by force?"
Right after this, after the other cyclopes ditch Polyphemus, Odysseus's inner monologue goes something like this:
"Then they went away, and I laughed inwardly at the success of my clever strategem [metis]." (pronounced mEH-Tis)
Now, there's a difference between mē tis and metis. [mē tis] (pronounced mEH-Tis with a space between the syllables) is the literal translation for "no man". Metis is a word for extreme intelligence/cunning, which is something Odysseus is famous for.
Now, there are several examples of abuse of metis/intelligence in the Odyssey, but I think the juxtaposition between [mē tis], or the concept of anonymity, and metis, or extreme intelligence, is REALLY interesting. Odysseus's adoption of the title "No-man" was characteristic of metis--it was a really smart move that simultaneously hid him from the cyclops and avoided any future consequences. It was a highly effective strategy all wrapped up in a nest little package with a bow on it.
But when he revealed himself as Odysseus of Ithaca, effectively throwing off No-man (anonymity and [mē tis]), that was characterized as idiocy--he's essentially doxxed himself, and now he's doing to (spoiler alert) get tossed around the Mediterranean by Poseidon for the next 10 years.
This is really interesting because it lets you see the parallels/codependency between metis(intelligence) and humility. When Odysseus refused to allow himself to go unnoticed (hubris) he suffered for it. BUT when he declined instant glory/satisfaction (kleos) in order to achieve the long term goal of survival, he was rewarded with Athena's favor (pay attention. This part is important).
And this situation repeats itself MULTIPLE TIMES in the Odyssey--the EXACT SAME THING happens near the end of the book, with the suitors. When. Odysseus is dressed as a beggar and the suitors/Antinious are abusing him, he ACTIVELY CHOOSES not to react--he doesn't stand up and rip off his disguise and start hollering "TIS I, ODYSSEUS OF ITHACA! FEAR MY WRATH"
No. He sits there patiently and waits. He plans and schemes and quietly orchestrates their downfall without alerting them of it. Why? Because he learned his lesson the first time this happened. He buried his rage and adopted what was, according to Grace LA Franz, a more feminine form of metis, weaving a web of destruction for his enemies that ultimately resulted in their total annihilation (see Weaving a Way to Nostos: Odysseus and Feminine Metis in the Odyssey by Grace LaFranz). His patience allowed him to win the whole prize--no questions asked, no 10-year-long-business-trip strings attached--just the sweetness of a full victory. And he is, once again, rewarded with Athena's favor--both in the battle with the suitors and in the aftermath (cleanup/reuniting with Penelope).
This really reinforces the idea in the Odyssey that Odysseus's defining characteristic is not just his intelligence--it's his ability to learn from his mistakes. He used what he learned at the Lotus Eaters Island against Polyphemus--the Lotus Eaters drugged his men, so he drugged Polyphemus. He used what he learned from Circe and Polyphemus against the suitors--Circe used false sweetness and honeyed words to lure his men into a trap, so that's exactly what he did to the suitors. His hubris on Polyphemus' island cost his whole crew their lives, so he intentionally left well enough alone until the right time. He didn't just learn from his failures--he turned them into BATTLE STRATEGY.
i don't care what anyone says that is completely totally and objectively awesome
