i think my biggest ever hater aftg take is that I do not give a SHIT about robin or any new members of the team. in fact I like to pretend they don't exist and that the team somehow just stays those nine until they all graduate. you could not PAY me to acknowledge Robin beyond this and I hope she (and the rest of them) do not appear in the new books.
#and I don't feel bad for it in the slightest#I hope tsc ends before the start of the new school year#aftg#actually this tracks hugely for me. I never like characters that are introduced beyond (max) season 2 or the second book in a series#I like MY kids. the original kids.#and I don't like that they like anyone beyond their original squad#mine aftg

Too Hard
Woop part 2 of the trip inside Jamil's head. Part 1 here.
The next time Jamil caught sight of you on campus, his first instinct was to turn around on his heel.
What a stupid thought to have because of you.
Besides, that would only make him more conspicuous, not less.
So, when your eyes met his, Jamil gave you a short nod in greeting. He would’ve left it at that and kept on his way, had you not walked up to him.
“Hi Jamil! How’s it going?” you said with that impossibly disarming smile of yours.
Why was it so difficult to look at you like he normally would? You had no right to make him feel so stiff, so unnatural.
On autopilot, Jamil exchanged a few pleasantries with you - those lessons from his parents had been instilled too deep in him for him to falter too badly in a simple exchange such as this. Still, Jamil quickly excused himself by telling you he still had to find Kalim before his next class.
Jamil didn’t miss the way your smile faltered. Had you hoped to get something out of him?
“Oh, okay. I’ll see you two later, then.”
Something about that irked him, though Jamil did not allow himself to dwell on it further.
His heart really had no business still racing as it did when he walked away, unaware of the frown on his face.
Just act normal. That’s all he needed to do.
After all, he had no time for dwelling in silly fancies.
If Jamil had been acutely aware of you before, it only seemed to worsen now that he was making a conscious effort to not act any differently with you. In fact, the harder he tried to keep you out, the more you invaded his thoughts, unsettling him.
The most innocuous words from you looped in his mind, and even the simplest actions caught his eye. For goodness's sake, he’d found himself staring at you while you were queueing up in the cafeteria the other day, not even doing anything other than standing around and looking bored!
For once, Jamil found himself grateful for all his duties. At least they provided him with something else to occupy himself with.
After all, if he was busy enough, it was difficult to think about those bright eyes of yours, your sweet laugh, or the way you bit your lip while thinking.
Still, sometimes it felt like no matter which way he turned, you were there, ready to throw him off-kilter. Not like it was his fault that often the most convenient route to class intersected with your daily routines. Or that your face seemed to jump out from any crowd, catching his attention.
Which certainly did not help his basketball performance. Jamil certainly did not recall you having such an interest in sports before, yet suddenly you were always there, distracting him. What had changed?
Could you possibly-
Jamil scoffed to himself, forcing his thoughts back on track for the nth time that day.
He picked up the tray of food and started taking it to Kalim. After dinner, he’d need to help Kalim with his homework, there were some housewarden tasks that would need dealing with, not to mention the preparations for the next-
Jamil froze in his tracks.
The voice he heard was quiet, but it was unmistakably you.
Really, it should not have come as such a surprise to him. You had become a rather frequent visitor to Scarabia, and Kalim often invited you to stay for meals. In fact, Jamil had started planning the dorm’s meal prep with your tastes and dietary restrictions in mind, just in case.
Jamil rounded the corner with strange exhilaration, his heart fluttering needlessly.
Yet, his mood evaporated when he saw you.
Why did you stop talking and look so guilty as soon as you caught sight of Jamil?
Jamil knew that look you gave to Kalim, had used it himself a thousand times. The one telling Kalim to keep quiet about something.
What could there possibly be that you would be comfortable sharing with Kalim, but not with him? That would give Kalim reason to sit so close to you, a comforting hand on your shoulder?
Jamil's mind raced with possibilities, yet could not settle for any single explanation.
He’d have to ask Kalim about it later.
Jamil gave you a short, polite greeting, his eyes lingering on you in an attempt to read what you were hiding.
“If I’d known you were coming over, I would’ve prepared something for you to eat as well,” Jamil said, already thinking about which parts of the dorm’s dinner to spruce up for you.
“Oh, no need, just figured I’d pop by. I’ll get out of your hair soon enough,” you said, something sheepish about your expression.
As expected, Kalim asked you to stay and dine with them, and with just a bit more persuasion you agreed - though not before telling Jamil that he should join you too and have himself a breather.
And since Kalim agreed with you, Jamil soon found himself sharing a meal with you and Kalim. Yet, even as he sat down with the food, his mind raced.
Had you been getting particularly close to Kalim lately? But surely Jamil would’ve noticed such a thing. Maybe someone from the dorm had been giving you trouble? But if that was the case, then surely you could let Jamil know about it, too. Unless for some reason you did not want to? But if it was something that concerned Kalim, then sooner or later it was bound to concern Jamil, too.
All the while, Kalim was talking to you about this and that, the latest topic being the animals kept on the Asim estate.
“I’ve got some pictures, let me show you!” Kalim said with an excited grin.
Only, a thorough patting of his pockets and a look around confirmed that Kalim’s phone was nowhere to be seen.
Jamil pinched the bridge of his nose. Where had Kalim left it this time?
Before Jamil even had the chance to say that he would handle it, Kalim sprinted off. Jamil hesitated for a moment, automatically halfway up from his seat, before he decided that leaving a guest unattended would be a worse offense than not helping out his master.
Jamil slumped back down with a sigh, mentally tracing the path Kalim took today, trying to recall the last time he saw Kalim handle his phone.
“Breathe. He’ll manage,” you said. There was the faintest of smiles on your lips, and Jamil could not decide if it was knowing or amused. Perhaps both.
Somehow, despite his frustration, Jamil’s own lips wanted to curl up too.
“Hmm. Maybe he will.”
Sure, Jamil could’ve called Kalim’s phone, to make it easier to find, but it was not that urgent, was it?
Jamil took another bite of his food, keeping an eye on you from the corner of his eye.
How was his mind so empty and so buzzing at the same time?
“You know-”
“So-”
You looked at each other, both just as surprised that the other had spoken up at the same time.
Even your surprised look was so-
“You first,” Jamil said. The way you bit your lip... Jamil had to raise a cup to his lips, slowly sipping his drink.
“Just… Feels like it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen you be still, you know. Or exchanged more than two words with you,” you said. You were attempting a light, joking tone, yet it was quite clear there was more to it.
“You say that like it would be unusual for me to be busy.”
He was not prepared for the way your soft sigh tugged at his heartstrings.
“No. It is not.”
You were both quiet after, poking at your meals. Normally, Jamil would’ve cherished such a moment of peace, yet this particular silence between you two was decidedly awkward.
Where was your usual chatter? Why weren’t you looking at him like you usually did?
“If you’re worried about me, don’t. I’m fine,” Jamil said, some softness creeping into his tone despite his best intentions.
“That's what Kalim said too,” you said. Yet the way you looked at Jamil made it clear you were still skeptical.
Wait.
Had you clammed up earlier because it had been Jamil you had been talking about with Kalim? That Kalim had comforted you about?
The thought twisted his stomach into knots.
Eta: you can find part 3 here, part 4 here, and finally part 5 here. Hasdhfsdf the way I fought with that last scene I swear. I don't even want to know how many versions I went through, trying to figure out how to say what I wanted without rubbing it into your face or making it too veiled. The joys of trying to convey things through a limited pov. Hopefully it came out reasonably balanced in the end. Rip to all those sentences that were lovely on their own but didn’t work for the whole. Hopefully I can rehome y’all one day. I do have thoughts for part 3 and part x (might be some chapters between those two as well, who knows at this point), so maybe we'll see those at some point, too. Tag list: @colliope @crystallizsch @diodellet @jamilsimpno69 @jamilvapologist @twstgo If you'd like to be tagged for future works, let me know! (Just be aware that sometimes I do also write nsfw, though you can certainly ask to be tagged only for particular kinds of works.)
#twisted wonderland#jamil viper#twisted wonderland x reader#jamil viper x reader#ner writes#jamil definitely knows how to deal with his feels#also writing this is making me wonder how aware jamil is of his inner versus outer life#like he’s very aware of how he comes across because that’s what he’s been told to watch out for#but how well has he truly learned to understand himself and his own feelings wants etc?#(I mean as you can tell I’m assuming not very well)#originally this went to more of a “jamil hears just the wrong part of the conversation” route but#a) I kinda hate that trope especially when it’s dragged on beyond belief and#b) Kalim maybe doesn’t want to spill anyone’s secrets but he really is such an open book especially with Jamil so#also it’s not like jamil needs the extra help to catastrophize he already does that well enough on his own 🙃#tho then I went a little too far in the other direction and had to pull back#but let's just hope I didn't edit this to death by now#also also: since I seem to have a bit of a naming theme going on for this series#if I were to be the sort to go for the angst route what part would definitely be titled Too Late or something along those lines#also x3 but loved folks commenting on that part about reader being inoffensive in the first part#I certainly had fun writing that line#(and in general extra love to everyone who leaves comments on tags replies wherever always great to read those)#(and in general chat with y'all)

lockwood & co is great bc you have a group of teenagers who are all at this point in their lives highly trained individuals and capable and experienced and it shows in how they operate. but they are also teenagers and chaotic and disorganized and struggling with altogether too much pressure on their shoulders and it shows too. they're marching around London acting like they know what they're doing and they do but at the same time they don't, because they hunt ghosts and have for years but they're only sixteen and that is so young. you don't know anything when you're sixteen. and they have the health and safety of a nation resting on their shoulders, and they squabble over who gets the last cookie.
#lockwood & co#lockwood and co#fell in love with the series while the books were still coming out and i am beyond thrilled it got made into a series#but i dont have the books with me right now so i cant do the reread i desperately want to after watching the show#i do love how the adaptation was handled though!!#the things they changed worked better for tv format but its so clear that they were so fond of the source material and i love it#slimy speaks#lockwood and co netflix#lucy carlyle#anthony lockwood#george karim#george i love you more than life itself btw. my boy

Anyone else find it kind of funny/annoying that everyone's kicking off about TWP being released in 2025/2026? CC has been writing TSC since 2007, that's 17 years with barely a break to write something else. I know if I do the same thing for a while it gets boring and I've seen some people's opinions of CoT and how her being burnt out doesn't help.
I guess I'm just saying to remember she's human? She has a whole life we're not subject to and a publishing company who have certain dates that she probably can't move.
Also, the sooner TWP comes, the sooner TSC is over, so there's that too
#not accusing anyone or being hateful#just venting about how many people are getting proper annoyed at her and this about the dates#at the end of the day it’s a book series?#i got into star trek (new ones especially) after the last film was released#it's been 8 years since star trek beyond and they keep saying they'll make another one#but no news#and it annoys me but also there's bigger things you know?#twp#the wicked powers#tsc#the shadowhunter chronicles

Paleolithic Media Catalogue
Hello everyone :) Short story first: When I began brainstorming for my prehistoric story, I started wondering what other prehistoric fiction there is out there. I was not familiar with it and have not seen much. That's when I started my grand literature review and began a search for what fiction exist out there. I wanted to know what kinds of stories are being made with this time period. What are the common themes or recurring ideas (I found lots of humans and dinosaurs works. And time travel). Since I've had a growing collection on my computer, I decided I should keep on enlarging it and put it online. It's nowhere near complete. I'll slowly keep accumulating the collection as I find more. I only have fiction books and comics right now. I still need to work on the film section.
You can access the blog here!

As for where I am in my reading, the one's I've finished reading are Earth's Children series (book 1-4. Dropped it afterwards lol. I made a post on with fanart) Dance of the Tiger and it's sequel Singletusk (They were good! I'll upload my review on the blog), and Sisters of the Wolf (It was ok!). I got my hands on The Inheritors and excited to start reading it. I REALLY want to read the Shiva trilogy, but I found no PDF online... and it's out of print :( There is certainly old copies on ebay. And I want to read Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. There seem to be lots of good books out there.
#For whomever might find it useful... I'm doing this#I actually found another huge catalogue by an awesome person called Stephen Trussel#However their site has not been updated since 2016#I've linked their site on my blog when referencing the ENG translation for 'paris before man'#I'll make a paragraph dedicated to that site too#This has gone beyond my initial literature review lol#But for someone writing in this genre.. I've got to get to know it well#Because If I do end up publishing it I KNOW for sure it will be set up against other prehistoric fiction#mainly earth's children series#LITERALLY every book I checked had people in the reviews comparing it to Auel's series. Like it's the blueprint of prehistoric fiction#Like it's 'The Lord of the Rings' of its' genre.#and since it's a graphic novel maybe it will be compared to other comics?? Which I haven't found a lot YET#Emmanuel Roudier's work looks SO GOOD#I say looks because it's in French and I can't read French#I'm tempted to try translating it with what little French I learnt from public school and actually learn French in the process#Mezolith is great but it's not a full story. Just small snippets/short stories#Same with Tiger Lung. It's great. Also very very short. I recommend both.#I have not read the mangas yet. I read the first few chapters of Grashros and it's 100% Shounen stuff so far lol

some thoughts while re-watching lok for the first time in a decade:
as a modernist scholar i’m still just as obsessed with the themes of political instability, revolution, and social inequality against a backdrop of rapid technological development
the writing/dialogue is nowhere near as funny or clever as i thought it was as a teenager
why was the equalist plot never developed beyond season one??? there was so much potential to explore vis à vis non-bender oppression and what it might mean to be an avatar to benders and non-benders alike
the soundtrack slaps
i’m even more mad this time around about how korra is continually beat down knowing just how brutalized her character will be in later seasons
still in love with mako
#anyway i will not be watching beyond book one because the rest of the series goes downhill#the legend of korra#lok

Which version of this do you prefer?
This polls is part two, and focuses on non-film adaptations. Part 1, which only featured films, was posted earlier (though the 60s Batman series was also included on that poll because of Batman 66). A third poll combining the favorite options from both may be posted at some point in the future
*obviously with comics there's lots and lots of different runs that can have wildly different qualities and everything which kind of complicates things, but as the source material it does need to be included on the poll- you can just think of this option as indicating a general preference for the comics stories instead of being attached to a specific Batman run in the comics
See tags of original post for further notes
#to keep things basically even I only included versions that feature a version of Batman or Bruce Wayne the character in a significant role#hence why Gotham was included and some other live action tv versions weren't#because most of the others feature other batfamily characters (alfred or batwoman or various people for gotham knights etc)#ditto for a series like harley quinn where batman is present but not a lead character#batman beyond and btas share a continuity- both being dcau- and therefore under my usual rules would be one single option#however I decided to separate them because theyre different enough in focus that I imagine people might have different feelings on them#however the new batman adventures is falling under the btas umbrella here#because tnba is a continuation of btas and is often all packaged under the name btas#and yes i am including hmb i have included full on parodies on these before so#batman#batman the animated series#btas#batman beyond#dcau#the batman 2004#batman the brave and the bold#batman arkham series#beware the batman#gotham#gotham 2014#telltale batman#telltale games#batman comics#the new batman adventures#holy musical batman#holy musical b@man#starkid#comics#comic books#superheroes

......I'd forgotten Aaron had given the twokins blacksmith a copy of the enclavers crossbows. The enclavers incredibly powerful and extremely illegal to make without express permission crossbow. The crossbow he got all three members of the royal family to give written permission for him to have one made. The crossbow he's given to the twokins blacksmith. @muffinlance holy crap. Not just an enclaver revolt he's trying to kick off then....
#I'm obsessed I totally had forgotten#he gave them!!! The crossbow!!!!!!#he got all three signatures!!!!#was laughing at how thorough he was with the signatures and then he went and did a thing like that#Aaron I love you#and then I love!!! whenever something happens in the middle of a book but doesn't end up being relevant in the book it's in#like the way this crossbow thing has yet to become a major focus#or like John and Mabel not really being that plot relevant beyond friendship in the first book#and then being oh so incredibly relevant in the second#sequel bait done good if you will#planting seeds#MAN i love this series#fox's tongue and kirin's bone#Ftakb#the skin stealer's son#id in alt text

looking at wc excerpts is so exhausting bc ill hear secondhand stuff from the fandom about female characters and their situations and go “wow i kinda hope she interacts with this other female character, i think they’d get along really well” and then i do find excerpts where they interact and they hate each other because the erins will scream and die before letting two grown unrelated female characters have a nice interaction post omen of the stars apparently
#like even the ones that DO get along inevitably get boy drama at some point#anyways. wtf dovewing and tawnypelt should be friends not tawnypelt hating her for being an outsider who stole her baby#sparkpelt and twigbranch should be really close given she watched her grow up and saved her life and defended her all the time#not sparkpelt just arbitrarily hating her and being antagonistic towards her for the sake of contrived conflict to make alderheart look good#brackenwing should be sympathetic to and care about palebird when her mate is antagonizing her and their child while she has ppd#not mocking her for naming her dead child#like apparently bristlefrost and spotfur got along but do they even count when they also had petty boy drama#why does everyone in this series have to be so mean to each other even within their own clans like why cant anyone have friends#or even friends that last beyond one or two books#echoed voice

Kaneki’s definition of beating Ayato half to death is as insane and hilarious as always
#maria rambles#tokyo ghoul#I’m rereading the series because I was going through my books and remembered I still don’t own all 14 volumes#I have 10 and am hoping to finish it out over the next few months#but anyway I honestly prefer his fight with Ayato over the one with Yamori#just. the cold logic here is so beyond what we’ve seen from Kaneki so far but it’s also really fitting for him?#book nerd that he is#he spent like 12 days getting viscously tortured so he deserves to go a little feral. as a treat

If I had a nickel for every children’s book series I’ve read about a young boy with daddy issues (well technically big brother issues for one of them but said big brother did end up raising him because their parents suck so still counts) ending up at a summer camp for kids with magic powers, I’d have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
#i just reread the bad books and came to this revelation#the bad books and percy jackson aren’t that similar to each other beyond this#but i just thought it was funny that they both involve a magic summer camp and an angsty young boy as the protagonist#the bad books#the secret series#percy jackson#percy jackson and the olympians#pjo#pseudonymous bosch#rick riordan

I do not think it’s a good idea to keep Nia’s situation from the rest of the group. But the bitchy side of me is glad she doesn’t wanna tell anyone because I know the moment we do, it’ll become all about her again and MC’s issues will get pushed even further into the background 😑🤷🏽♀️
#choices bolas#choices blades#blades of light and shadow#choices stories you play#playchoices#‘she’s the baby of the group’ ‘you’re our heart’ ‘poor innocent Nia needs to be protected and saved again’#and the thing is that I do like Nia as a character#but 1) I hate when MCs aren’t treated like MCs#and their only purpose is to observe and facilitate the other characters’ stories and growth#and I feel like that’s ultimately what ended up happening in book 1 of this series and will most likely happen in this one as well#like yes obviously MC experienced growth as well but it’s always in the ‘going from a newbie to a competent individual’ sense#and that’s beyond old#plus it doesn’t work when they pick and choose when they want to acknowledge our competence in book 2#and 2) I also can’t stand this flawless/perfect character archetype they do#or rather the ‘only flawed in ways that make them look even more perfect’ characters#it’s so overdone and unrealistic imo#like Nia is so selfless she doesn’t consider her own needs?#she’s generally timid and lacks confidence?#she can be naive and a bit too trusting?#please those aren’t even really flaws#they just serve to make the character even more the paragon of virtue which again is just unrealistic#especially because the last two often end up being flipped and portrayed as the person always seeing the good in others#but idk maybe I’m missing the point or something#I know this is a common character archetype but it’s one of my least favorites#which sucks because as I said I do actually like Nia even though I might be coming across as a hater#i like some of the writing for how she fits into the group and I also like how her faith is unwavering#plus she is competent and has skills in her own right#but for whatever reason the writers thought giving her real flaws or at least acknowledging the shallow ones they did give her#beyond face value wasn’t a good idea?#idk maybe I’m wrong though and things will play out different than I expect

Hi guys 🤗
I came to you with some reading recs today
I always have this nagging feeling when I find something to hyperfixate on: I want this but not this but exactly like that but maybe in another medium (am I still making sense to you? I sure hope so)
Well, with jwds and BE it was ✨intense✨ especially when I read like 99% of stories on AO3. And I cane across some detective stories written by C.S.Poe. The series I am talking about is "Memento Mori", and currently there are 3 books and the 4th is on its way. Why I am recommending these books you ask? The ✨vibes✨. The dynamic between two main characters is so jwds for me (in the scenario when they continue being partners and solve cases together)

Alright, here's the Beyonders poster!
There are a few different versions bc I'm bad at making decisions😅
Some have a black border (I think it frames it kinda nicely), some have extra threads, and some have the title! ^^
I wasn't really sure where I was going with it at first, but I think it came together OK!
It took 12 and a half hours
