self care ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
what exactly is self care?
self care: the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress. (googles version)
self care: self care is something that originates with you, makes you feel better and spiritually brings you closer to yourself. (my version)
self care could be a way of making yourself feel better, starting new habits, setting a new goal, and learning to love yourself. self care should be originated by you, not someone or something you see online. "the answer to your problem is never going to be someone else telling you what to do" - Dr Pooja Lakshmin, The real self care.
ideas of what to do for self care:
daily movement- going on a walk, doing some exercise, pilates, yoga are all great ways to boost moods and keep you productive.
meditation- meditation is a great way of embracing your inner self and keeping calm.
start a journal and journal everyday- journalism is a great way to achieve goals, reduce stress, and overall become a better version of yourself. ( i can give journal prompts is wanted ⊹˚. ♡)
read a good book!- i know this might sound a little nerdy or boring but reading is a great way to bust boredom and learn new things ( i can give book recommendation for different topics ⊹˚. ♡)
give yourself a positive affirmation everyday- this will improve your positive thoughts and self esteem.
do a face mask- find one for your skin type and put it on, they feel so nice and refreshing!
remember: "the answer to your problem is never going to be someone else telling you what to do"
thats all for now, thank you for reading!
-sophie xoxo

Um how about a Indian reader who believes in sex after marriage sooo when they were in relationship gojo has to kinda suffer (in a funny way) being a herbivore and after there marriage he can't just wait to leave the crowd teasing the reader through the function and it would be more fun if it's an Indian wedding cause we all know ristedar picha na shadi ke pehle chorte hai aur na shaadi ke baad 😆
But getting his hands all over her once they leave them alone
I'm imagining his reaction when reader would cry her eyes out during vidai 😆
Btw new Tumblr user here I got excited knowing a Desi gojo fic writer<3
Feel free to ignore tho
Omggg I loved this request it was soo fun!! Like my literal fantasy came to life here!! I did this request so fast in honor of the Goat's homecoming!!

The Wedding Night
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So you two have been preparing for the wedding for months. Since you had to organize two weddings one Japanese style and one Indian style
When he found out honestly he was quite amused of course but he always respected your decisions. Not without teasing you at every given moment from sexy scenes in movies to books if there were any he would always say "Just wait until the day we get married~" teasing you on how you believed in sex after marriage.
Now the day was finally here, Satoru in a beige sherwani with blue flowers and golden kadhai asdfghjkl.
When you joined the ballroom oh my wearing that royal wedding dress. The red lehenga with gold all over it. Damn, this man fell even harder he didn't even know he could see this day.
After the var mala, You and he sat in front of the mandap now that's where the fun began.
Satoru's slippers were gone in seconds, even the strongest sorcerer couldn't save them.
Your sister got a lot of money in return which made you sigh at both of their behaviors
"Where are my slippers?" Satoru said looking around as you snickered and looked at your sisters (now salis) as one of them wore the slippers. "Jija ji~," Your sisters said menacingly as they tapped on his shoulders making him look around "Oh, you found them? Thank you" He smiled patting one of their head, oh this poor boy doesn't know what is going to happen now as the swiped the slippers as he was about to reach them making he raise his eyebrow. The eldest smiled and said snickering "Nothing in return~" Satoru didn't has a single clue about what she was asking and placed a plate of golgappa from the waiter in her hand. Making you laugh and said "Not that idiot, she's talking about money the neigh(idk what you call it but in my family, they call it neigh or shagun ka lifafa)" "Oh!! Here my sweet sisters-in-law!" He said putting his card in their hands making your and your sister's jaws drop to the floor. "Oh, Beh--" You were about to curse as your elder sister (can be cousin too) covered your mouth. "Not today Y/n."
After the faire and pooja, it was time to play the games. The most intense game of no other. Both of you were so determined to find the ring in the bowl. After, 7 rounds you finally won the first game. While Satoru won the rice game.
At the Dinner, he thought this was the time he finally would get you alone. But unfortunately for him all your relatives when to meet you.
You two were sitting together while the whole family sat on the larger table as Indian dishes were served as the relatives started to come from one of your closets first. First were from your mother's house who came and fed you two a bite of the food (The custom where like the relatives feed you one bite showing their love towards the bride and groom) "Hai mera beta itni badi hogayi," Your Mama said feeding you two a bite as you turned to Satoru and introduced him to your uncle " 'Toru, This is My Mama the one I told you about." You said as Satoru nodded and smiled at him "Yes I remember, Namaste sir" "Oh don't call me sir, I'm your Uncle now boy!" You Uncle fist-bumped your newly wed husband welcoming him to the family as he leaned to your ear and whispered "Hindi seekh raha hai?" He asked as you giggled and nodded "Abhi tak sahi chal rahi hai classes"
Oh, that was just one of them, and many more from both your mother's and father's side. You introduced those who were left in the group photos
After the whole dinner, there was part of the vidai when you both were leaving to go to your hotel. After the whole energetic wedding now everyone had a solemn look as he looked at you hugging your mother and crying your eyes out. Much to say he was amused he was omg he was so confused he thought you didn't want to go but you had lived with him in Japan.
Getting in the car this mf would be 100 perc. be dramatic saying that you didn't love him and broke his heart, and like he never knew you didn't want to live with him. As you explained that is why you were crying. As you two drove to your hotel. Now finally married.
Ohhhh! Here's the fun parttt!! The suhag raat!!
Satoru finally gets you alone when he finally lifts your veil like in the old Bollywood films looking at your beautiful face decorated with gold jewelry as he kissed you so softly and passionately which of course you gladly returned.
The funny part is that he won't still be able to do what he wants, for actually taking off your clothes he and you would take out the jewelry, safety pins, and makeup for like half an hour.
Oh, he would just be soo fucking touchyyy like literally would seduce you when he helped you take off your safety pins. like squeezing your waist or your inner thighs. Well, You know what happened next right? ;)

If you're having a bad day, just read this, it'll make you feel better ig.
When I was in college, one day my best friend (yunhi) gave me a call and asked me if I wanted to put on some flowers in my hair and i obviously said yes because who doesn't love gajra? (Idk about others but I do) And so he put those flowers in my bag after I went to college. I went back home and wore them (I can't say how I felt at that exact moment) and then I asked him where he bought those from. To that he answered that he had picked them up from a bunch of gajra which his mother made for a morning "Pooja".. she doesn't know he had taken some of those for me.. (i know, I know, here comes the best part).. Later on, he went like "if it were allowed I'd have put those in your hair by myself" (do you see that? I just want the best for him, he's the most nicest being to ever exist)
Yep that's the picture of the gajra which he gave me, after they dried up in my hair, I kept it safely in my book <3

ARC Review of Marriage and Masti by Nisha Sharma
Tumblr media
Rating: 4/5 Heat Level: 3.5/5 Pub Date: August 27th
Premise:
A Twelfth Night-inspired romcom; Veera Mathur drunkenly marries her friend and crush Deepak Datta, and they agree to stay married as platonic friends until they meet their respective career goals.
My review:
Nisha Sharma finished her If Shakespeare Were An Auntie series strong with a friends-to-lovers romance done RIGHT. It has the perfect amount of pining and angst without veering into pathetic territory, and the way Deepak and Veera's romance develops post-marriage feels so natural and QUITE swoony.
Veera's in a bad place after being forced out of her family business by her own dad before they merge with Deepak's company. She's aimless and trying to raise capital with her twin sister for their next venture when she's yacht-wrecked in Goa. Enter Deepak, who was juuuuust dumped by his influencer fiancée via "get-ready-with-me" video (I did laugh; THERE'S your "com" in the romcom) and he rescues Veera, except they have a few too many and wake up married the next morning.
Here's the thing: Veera and Deepak have a history. Their friend groups merged a couple years back and they really hit it off, something we see via flashback text message conversations (similar to Tastes Like Shakkar which I loved), and you really see how Veera developed feelings for Deepak, as well as her hurt when she found out Deepak was engaged to someone else without telling her. Somewhere along the way, probably after his engagement, Deepak realizes he has feelings for Veera too and he takes the opportunity to play the long game after their accidental marriage. I like how neither Deepak nor Veera are in a place where they're like, super tragic about their love being unrequited which is how a lot of friends-to-lovers romances don't end up working for me. They never take it out on the other person, and though Veera especially hesitates even after they have sex and Deepak has kind of made his feelings known, it doesn't feel contrived.
I think Indian weddings are seen both in India and abroad as this enormous to-do (if recent events are any indication) and sort of the be-all-end-all, but there is so much more to a marriage than the wedding. And because Veera and Deepak basically elope, we don't get the wedding and instead, we see all these lovely, meaningful post-marriage Indian (specifically Hindu-Punjabi) traditions like the Aunties blessing their home and the Grihapravesha pooja to welcome Veera to Deepak's family home. And some of these moments are so so romantic— I DIED when Deepak pleats Veera's dupatta and helps her with her baliyan earrings before their wedding reception, and the way they observe, but also subvert the patriarchal tradition of Karva Chauth (where married women fast for their husband's well-being) in such a sweet way.
A couple other things worth noting— there is a lot of boardroom drama; the plot is centered around Deepak getting enough votes to become CEO, and Veera finding closure and moving forward after being shunted out of her family's company by her own dad. And a part of that, interestingly, is going no-contact with a family member, something that is still looked down upon in =South Asian communities, but I appreciate the nuanced way it was handled in this book, and by the end, you can see Veera is 100% valid for doing what she does. I also liked how the story deals with Veera feeling like the odd one out after both her friends coupled off which is very relatable.
The sex:
Deepak has strong "don't worry baby I'll take care of you" energy and I have to say, I'm a fan. It starts off strong with a sleepy sex moment (HOT; I love when two characters are just too exhausted to not give into their impulses), but my favorite scene is definitely before their belated wedding reception, and Veera is feeling anxious so she asks for "stress relief"— Obviously Deepak is more than happy to oblige, and there are so many details I loved, like the chime of her anklets against his back, and the way her lehenga is half off and exposing her partially. Again, Nisha Sharma is doing the most to eroticize Indian clothes and jewelry and I'm HERE for it.
There's also this mild brat/bossy dynamic which kind of peaks when Veera and Deepak go all the way the first time. It was surprising in a good way, and I just wish Nisha had expanded on it some more.
Overall:
Look, it's hard to find South Asian romances with this level of heat (and believe me, I've looked) and Nisha Sharma did a great job of interweaving the romance and culture in a really lovely way that I'd recommend to anyone looking for a romcom-esque romance novel.
Thank you to Avon Books and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Usha Lakshmi Gargi Ratri
Saraswati
I wonder why don't I ever concentrate on the pooja whenever I am in a group. I love to sit in front of my deities alone in a room in dark and let my thoughts and words wander. I know they they hear my inner thoughts as well as the words that project out of my mouth. It feels as if I am home with them only when I am the only one in a room.
It's the same even today. Today it is Basant Panchami. Dadi, my brother and I are doing pooja day. Dad is in another city and mummy has periods so she did not join for the aarti today. She had specifically asked me to keep a few pens and my RD Sharma Maths book near Saraswati maa's moorti.
Funny, how I call Devi Lakshmi as my sakhi and Devi Saraswati as Maa. As a child of five years, I used to watch this animated movie called Omkara on TV. Shivji and Parvati Devi had taken abode in the holy city of Kashi with Ganesha, Karthikeya, Lakshmi and Saraswati as their children. My mother would always tell me to be like Saraswati -- affectionate, kind, wise and simple.
Years flew by, and for a while, my connection with the deities dwindled even with my dearest god, Krishna. But, don't they say that the goddess of Knowledge sits on Vishnu's tongue. Won't the same goddess guide the one who has strayed away from its path?
I stare at the small moorti of the goddess. It took me back to my examination days. I always carried an examination board that had a photo of Devi Saraswati. She always looked so elegant and benevolent. I usually performed well in subjects like English, Hindi, Social Studies and Biology with her photo on my exam board, so I considered her as my lucky charm during exam days.
The Saraswati moorti looks beautiful. I stare at the veena in her hands and the large pink lotus on which she sits. For the first time, I get a tingly feeling running down on my spine -- the feeling that arises each time I am about to meet a goddess in person. Dadi is probably chanting Saraswati chalisa and my brother as usual is randomly mouthing the words and staring at the sweets.
Warmth engulfs my body, and I hear rain fall outside the balcony. My eyes close on their own accord, and for the first time I am given a divine vision.
The goddess is seated near a river bed that is brimming with fresh brightly coloured green grasses, and a few wild flowers. The river looks clean, completely transparent. It sparkles a little under the sun. Her fingers skillfully run on the strings of the Veena, producing the most beautiful tune I have ever heard in my life. Her eyes are closed, but I know she sees me. She knows that I am watching her.
After what feels like an eternity, she stops playing her instrument and opens her eyes. She smiles and gently calls her swan from the river. I turn back and see a large but majestic swan emerge from the crystal clear river with a string of pearls on its beak. The swan turns its head at me and nods. I gawk at the beautiful bird which causes the goddess to giggle. She composes herself and pats the swan's head. "It's a beautiful bird, isn't it?"
"The most exquisite looking swan, devi," I say as the swan gently lands the pearls near my feet. Frowning in confusing, I look at the goddess and ask, "Why did it give the pearls to me? They are yours."
"What do the pearls signify, my child?"
"Wisdom, purity, innocence, serenity and protecting, Maa."
Devi smiles. I see her face shine like the full moon. "Very good. That's true. Now let me tell you something." Her lovely fingers pick a delicate pearl. "Pearls are very difficult to find. They lie deeper and hidden in dark waters. Only the ones brave into the embrace the darkness of the ocean. You have to delve deep and have patience to look for them. There will be many obstacles on your way. You might feel tiredness seep into your bones. Sometimes you will see your companions getting these shiny pearls quickly while you barely find a shell on the water bed. You must remember that to get the best, sometimes you have to wait for long and keep persevering. One day, your hard work will pay off, and these pearls will be yours. Now, pearls also represent wisdom, don't they?"
I nod my head eagerly. She continues, "The quest for diamonds teaches you lessons of immense hard work and the sight to never consider any piece of coal or a stone to be ordinary. The journey to seek pearls gives you lessons of patience and the strength to take bold decisions to get the best of your life with grace, kindness and knowledge."
Her swan nuzzles on my thigh and I feel my legs stiffen which causes the goddess to chuckle. "Don't worry, my swan won't bite you. The worse it can do is drench you in river water to indulge in some mischief."
I nervously laugh and touch the swan's head with my index finger. My eyes then travel upwards to gaze at Maa's face. Her face softens with a knowing look. "You have a question, don't you?"
"There are nights, I hear a song far away from my house. It makes me wonder who I am. There's a lake near my house. Each time I peer at my reflection, I see a woman decked in red and dazzling jewels. For a man, she would be sensuality personified, but to me she appears divine. She has a sharp gaze that would make tongues stutter to make any remark at her. Then, the red clothes and gold jewels disappear. She then appears dressed in white with pearls and flowers around her wrists and legs. She looks lovely but in a different way. She radiates pure love. She looks at everyone with the eyes of a charmed lover, speaks words that would boggle the mind and make you question everything you have ever known. Later, she smiles knowing only a choice few would understand her language and her words. After a while, their faces morph into my reflection and I have never found myself look that divinely charming even in the mirror. Should I know who these women are? Are they me or will I grow up to be them?"
The goddess closes her eyes once again. Her form starts expanding to the skies. Golden efflugence effuses from her being while her fingers start to play the veena once again. She answers.
"You are them, yes, my child. You will grow up to be them. But remember, don't consider them to be separate from each other or from you. Red is for passion, energy and love. Men in your time will confuse this form as lust. You must build yourself in such a way that no man with a narrowed vision can hurl abuse your divinely form. Many are going to speak against you, even for the way you carry yourself and move. You, my child, are going to rise than them. I shall not speak much about your appearance in red. You will have another goddess tell you more, a goddess who often is misinterpreted and shunned today. Let me tell you about the woman in white."
Maa plays a beautiful set of chords that make me feel as if I am floating in air amongst twinkling stars. It feels blissful. Is this how sat-chit-ananda feels like?
A melodious laughter from Maa fills my ears. "Now, that's something for you to find out. I will not reveal everything to you. But for now, let me tell you about the second woman."
"She has the gaze and a hear of a lover. She will fall in love with everything life will give her, be it thorns or roses. Books are her companions. She is going to be a wonderful being of light, love, kindness and wisdom. She wears white to represent the holy and divine knowledge she has learnt in her life and other lifetimes to come. The pearls on her body stand for the important lessons on patience, beauty, virtue and serenity. She is a very mysterious woman. Some say she has the most complex thoughts about life, while a rare minds get through her way of flowery words and poetry to understand one simple Truth -- this Truth is again your quest to realize and understand. You cannot tie her to relationships and desires in the mortal sense. She will love you dearly, do everything that is best for you, but do not expect her to write ballads and love songs for you. Her love songs and poems speak about a different Lover. Who is that Lover is another question whose answer you must find yourself. She will be your guiding force in life and until you transform into her. As I said, you, we, them are all One."
Tears flow out of my eyes. Perhaps, I did find my answer to my questions. Maybe, I will grow and transform myself in the best way possible and help others in the same. Just like Maa said, we all are One, we all can help, learn and grow together.
"Jhia lo prasad ta ne kana emiti thakurani ku dekhuchu." (Daughter, have the prasad. Why are you staring at the goddess like that?"
****** ***** ******* ******** ******** *********
This is the longest in the series. I am really grateful for your comments and the amount of love you have poured out for this series. A lot of it is personal in these tales that happened to me in dreams and in some of my worst days. Maybe that's why it connects you all too. I promise, once I am done with this series, I will reply to all of your comments and reblogs.
And here you can make a guess about the next goddess as Maa said she will tell you about the woman in red, do you all have any guesses who will she be? This is a very easy answer 👀

Everytime I visit any historical ruins (there are plenty for someone living in दिल्ली)
I'm somehow reminded of the impermanence of life.
The words "जीवन का एक ही सत्य म्रत्यु है" just make so much sense.
I begin to go down a rabbithole of how things would've been in the past when those buildings were getting made. When each person wanted something grander to be built for their rememberance (some still stand today) yet when they died, they had no one but themselves. Yet when they were making peace with death, which was standing at their doorstep, everyone begged for forgiveness, for one more day, for one more moment to be a changed person.
As a Hindu, I really like how we deal with the concept of death. As someone who studies Advaita philosophy, I love how it approaches death not as this giant entity to be scared of, but as something to just accept as a part of the journey of your eternal soul.
As someone who has dealt with the death of her grandmother and is seeing her ailing, ageing grandparents everyday, it gives me a certain solace to know that she is safe out there, that she is not her body, no body is their physical bodies but their आत्मन which is eternal, forever living. I find solace in knowing that by my actions, my words and my values I can keep her spirit alive.
When we were performing the rituals for her in the body form, I couldn't help but notice how each of them teaches a different value.
When we bathed her for the final time, I was taught the value of having your families as साथि to help you complete your journey.
When we lit the fire that would follow her till the crematorium, it reminded me how the true purpose in life is to follow the flame of knowledge. None of your material possessions follow you, but only the eternal flame of knowledge.
When we performed her 13th day pooja, and the days leading up to it, where we fed her soul with भोजन, it reminded me of how the families are gradually taught to let go of the mortal and remember their values through good deeds and actions (like feeding the needy, donating the clothes to people who are homeless).
When I saw my father go to the crematorium, as a dutiful son in law, despite his disagreements with my mother on various issues, I was taught what co existence means.
When all us cousins flew in from different parts of the country, it taught my love. Love, which is unconditional, which transcends mortal statuses. I had my exam in 2 days, my cousin had her interview the next day, my other cousin brother had his book launch scheduled while my eldest sister had just gotten engaged.
So when I see people fight and wreck havoc due to ideological differences and political gains, I feel like reminding them of the ONLY TRUTH THAT IS PERHAPS नित्य WHICH IS म्रत्यु. I urge them to go to Benaras/काशी, where you see what truly matters in life is - Love and the eternal quest of knowledge.
P.s. if anyone belongs to any other religion please please tell me how you all deal with death, the concept of death and the ritualistic significance. I would really really love to know.

highlights,
I finally started sleeping through the night again last week. ❤️ which is SUCH a huge relief!
I've been in a nice evening/night routine for the last week. After dinner, I sit outside and work on my writing project by hand in my journal for an hour every evening, and then I watch an episode of The Wire before bed. I'm almost done with season three.
I've been cooking a lot of new recipes. Last week, Maryland crab cakes, Thai basil crispy tofu stir fry with red bell pepper and Thai eggplant, a pasta with mushrooms, butter, Parmesan, and sage, and a Thai red curry. I've been using fresh sage and Thai basil from my little garden, and I'm really happy with how the recipes turned out. I'm doing garlic Parmesan chicken wings tonight.
I had a work trip to Denver on Friday and Saturday. I just got back last night. It was a busy, whirlwind trip, but so much better than my trip to Iowa, which was pretty awful. It helped a lot that I traveled with my boss this time, instead of going alone. I get along well and have a lot in common with her. We spent a lot of time together, going out for food and walking around downtown Denver.
I've been fortunate to have great mentors at my jobs, like my old boss Elizabeth, and I'm so happy that I can learn from my current boss too. Every time I send an email or run a meeting, I'm like, "Is this what X would say?" "Is this how X would handle it?" lmao.
The good parts of the trip were hanging out with my boss, and the nice af hotel we were able to stay at. The hard parts were that it was physically and socially draining and exhausting, thanks to working at the event, waking up early on Saturday, and flying on two consecutive days.
I'm so glad to be back home with Derek and Westin. I went for a nice swim today, and went out for ice cream and to the garden store with Derek. :) I also got a massage, which I really needed after carrying my heavy bag on my shoulder up and down the long lines and lots of walking at various airports. I hope I don't have to travel again for a few months at least. After four places in one month, I'm ready to just be home and relax.
I realized I haven't written about books in a while. I've read quite a bit this month and in May. I finished The Family Chao by Lan Samantha Chang (fiction), Africa is Not a Country by Dipo Faloyin (non-fiction), Making a Scene by Constance Wu (non-fiction, memoir), Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley (fiction), The Premonition by Michael Lewis (non-fiction, public health), and Real Self-Care by Pooja Lakshmin, MD (non-fiction.) I recommend all of them, though Nightcrawling and The Family Chao were heavy, gritty, not easy, reads. Africa is Not a Country and Real Self-Care were my favorite reads.
