What do you think of good Belos au's / au's where he's not a complete piece of garbage?

I like them!

There are a few that I like, such as “Humanity and Its Consequences,” which is an AU where Philip and Luz swap places with each other. A few other fics I like are “Reasoning With Crazy,” “Blunt Force Trauma” (Philip gets hit on the head with a collapsing ceiling and ends up believing the backstory he made up to be Belos is real), and (naturally) “Was Not The Hero.”

Some AUs you can find here on tumblr that I’m fond of are The Bone of Ortet AU, the Twin Rulers AU, the AROFAM AU.

I love the way these different works illustrate the various aspects of Philip’s personality and show his growth and/or descent as time goes on. They’re interesting and well thought out. If that’s your cup of tea, I’d really suggest you give them a look!

Its more or a less me diving into how I think Caleb's story continues even after he's dead. So he's basically a ghost throughout the whole thing. Ig its technically an AU cause i might add my own story changes.

First Chapter - Caleb's wakes up after losing the knife fight and wonders what the hell just happened (he dont realize he dead) (spoiler: he loses his shit)

The golden heir au!!

This au mostly follows canon but is much darker in tone and does go off track in specific canon moments because of the addition of a new character, a grimwalker clone of Belos who was made specifically to be a backup body but that plan was thrown completely to the side when the grimwalker ended up running away at a pretty young age, getting found by Eda (she’s like a magnet for traumatized children I swear) and has been adopted in everything except name by Eda also the grimwalker works as an assistant to Eda.

Whilst the grimwalker is at the owl house, Belos is on the hunt for that grimwalker because his current body is rotting alive because of the curse so time is extremely limited which means he has Hunter specifically on this case to hunt down the grimwalker under the pretense of that grimwalker having been kidnapped by wild witches and that Belos just wants to see his son again before he “dies” (this is a complete lie which Hunter doesn’t find out the truth until this aus version of hollow mind but anyways I don’t want to spoil the whole thing so I’ll just leave it at that) also the fact that when Luz enters the demon realm it shakes everything up even more so without her realizing by finally leaving a trace that Hunter can follow to that grimwalker…

So with all that context out of the way…

Meet the unfortunate grimewalker and golden heir himself, Pip

He’s for a lack of better words a little shit. (Hooty is always on the defense around Pip because of all the pranks Pip does to both him and everyone in Pip’s general vicinity lmao)

(Fun fact Pip’s real name is actually Philip because Belos had decided that Pip was going to be his final grimwalker before and after the day of unity also because he also wanted to be known as Philip during the day of Unity and sorta have his work go full circle…)

Pip’s job given to him by Eda is to steal human realm “treasures” (trash) alongside Owlbert, which Pip did pretty well until he got caught by an extremely confused Luz who’s was dead set on getting back her stolen trash and her copy of the good witch Azura so she ends up unknowingly enters the demon realm just like canon but this time to chase and confront Pip, Luz confronts Pip but they’re both making such a ruckus that the guards show up and they both almost get captured until Eda comes along and saves them, after that it goes just like canon except at the end where in order to both to make it up to luz for stealing her book and as a punishment from Eda for leading luz into the demon realm Pip is forced to become Luz’s guide to the demon realm (luz is still Edas apprentice in this au tho.) after this everything changes because the guard who tried to capture Pip and Luz had reported to Hunter a possible sighting of Pip and how he’s been found with a random human which Hunter then realizes he can use Luz as bait.

Also I’ll eventually talk about Pips relationships with the other characters in another post.

By the way Pip can do magic despite being “human” and not having a bile sac or a palisman, an example of this is the illusion he put on his ears when he’s out in public to make them long and pointy like a witch’s but that’s the only magic he does in general because he finds it extremely hard to focus on controlling the strength of the magic and also keeping the spell active so he prefers just not to really use magic. Magic usage makes him extremely tired also which is another reason he mostly avoids it.

Also Pip can use magic only because during the process of Belos growing him Belos had to cut off one of his arms to use as an ingredient (specifically the “bone of ortet” which fun fact an “ortet” is the original plant from which the plant's clones are descended from,) and so due to that arm being used as an ingredient the glyph arm carvings and unlucky the curse too had passed on to Pip as well.

The curse works similarly to Belos’s but is much less stronger and gets extremely agitated and causes a lot of pain if he’s used to much magic at once but I’ll focus on the curse properly in another post.

(Also I’m not the most experienced writer but I can draw so excuse my writing skills lol and try to at least enjoy the art)

Im curious about your grimwalker AU, do the grimwalkers have the same voice as the originals? Like I could imagine if they sound like the deceased friends that would be so creepy

They actually do sound similar. I have a HC where the more pieces of bone of ortet, the grimwalker gets, the more alike they are to the person they're cloned from. Amity is missing a thigh bone for a reason 😭😭

Just binge read the entire Brother's Keeper AU and holy heck, I love everything about this!!!! But, I come with a random thought that I don't know if you've clarified already, and sorry if you have.

It says in the show that Grimwalkers need the "Bones of Ortet" to be made, with the Ortet being the individual being cloned. And... Caleb's leg is missing... and there's a lot of bones in the foot...

Hmmm....

Unless Grimwalkers are made differently in this AU, in which case, disregard.

I haven't gone into it yet, mostly because I've made the narrative decision to reveal the story of Caleb's leg and the origin of the grimwalkers to the audience at the same time Hunter finds out. But it's an open secret for the readers at this point 🤷‍♀️

he he :333 i'll put this under a cut since hunters Deal is a pretty big thing we unpack over the course of the daemon au so. technically spoilers!! if you wanna wait a year til it comes out or somehow came across this while i was posting the fic.

anyways! so hunter is a freak of nature (affectionate) even by grimwalker standards njgdfg. but before we get into that i gotta do some ~term definition~ cause both daemons and palismen exist in this world and its important you know what i mean when i use em!

daemon: we know them. we love them. what you think of when i say 'daemon au.' creatures made entirely of dust that are the other half of a human, who can change shape up until they settle (around 12 years of age), and have a set range based on their form of how far they can go from said human, with most being between like 10-20 feet. daemons are born when their human is like, 6 months to a year old, slowly forming until they've got enough dust to take their first form.

palismen: the other half of a witch. palismen are born with their witches at palistrom trees--pregnant witches seek out a palistrom tree thats calling to baby and give birth there, and when the witch-baby is born a part of the palistrom tree will break off (usually leaves, twigs, branches, in the past berries + flowers) and become their palisman. palismen can change form up until a witch settles (typically upon joining a coven at 18), and until they settle have no set range--witch and palisman can go as far from each other as they want.

anyways with THAT out of the way, for all intents and purposes golden guards, seeing as they're all grimwalkers of a human, work on the human-side of things. but hunter and fidelity/flapjack (will be using flapjack for clarity's sake going forwards) use witch and palisman respectively since that's the world they grew up in lol.

all living creatures have some sort of connection to dust. for humans this is daemons, for witch palismen, demons have a variety of ways (some have flowers, some are connected to specific places, ex. hooty to the owl house, etc). so, every single living thing is in some way connected to the world around it. this includes hunter!

so, for most of the grimwalkers, they were made of caleb's bones. so, they were pulled out of the ground, and when they were their daemons formed--since grimwalkers Grow underground for a while their dust has the time to build up into their daemon. but see. belos might have made a little mistake in how often he murdered grimwalkers cause come hunter's time and he might. just a little bit. be out of caleb bones. whoopsie! but, you know, he does have some of caleb's daemon's dust, left. that's the same as bone, right?

and thus we get hunter and flapjack. flapjack is the grimwalker--her ortet was the dust of fidelity, caleb's daemon, and so she's dragged out of the ground as a wolfhound, the same form fidelity settled as. flapjack is entirely flesh and blood and has no ability to change. she is, technically, the witch.

but hunter.

needless to say belos was not expecting a weird little witch-baby, that's for certain!

now of course flapjack and hunter do Not know any of this at the start lol, and there's a bit more to it than this (hunter doesnt know he can change form! hmm, i wonder why....), but i need to keep some of my secrets.

as for azura! its not entirely worked out yet (i did just come up with the idea like, a few days ago so ive got some stuff to add in the edits), but the general idea of it is that when luz's dad was dying he very much left her the azura books on purpose. luz and mari have always very obviously stood out from their peers (its the neruodivergency) and as they approached 12 and still weren't settled, and as mari more often than not spoke for luz which is a HUGE no-no (daemons, after all, arent supposed to speak....)

yeah so camila + manny were terrified for her lol. thus azura! in my mind the azura books are very interested in taking the term witch--in my human world sort of the common word for what is medicalized as 'bond disorders,' ie, someone who doesnt settle by 12-13, someone who doesnt WANT to settle, a daemon who speaks when they should have grown out of this--and saying, hey, guys, uh, what the fuck?

so, azura is a witch! i imagine like witches of legend azura (in my eyes being the daemon's name, not that i know what the human would be named lol) wouldn't have a range, and would be various bird-forms. it explores ideas of teenagers not settling, and struggling to figure out who you are when 'who you are' is a thing you do not get to change, and people who do settle do so as daemon-forms that are ALSO medicalized (think, fish. which is the daemon luz's dad had! not sure what fish yet, but he had a fish :D)

basically: I Have A Lot Of Thoughts. Ha. Ha. hope you enjoyed them!

Featuring Jasper FREAKING THE FUCK OUT the second Hunter starts destabilizing cuz he realizes right away what it means (oh god, compost flashbacks). Probably devolves into everyone in the CATTs hideout having to stop Jasper from cutting out his own ortet rib.

Maybe Hunter guilts Jasper into accompanying him to confront Belos or something idk. Father/son bonding while one of them is actively melting and the other one is just trying to help while they both go off to fight their asshole creator.

On the plus side tho, Jasper and Will get to meet, which would be adorable. They can discuss all the grimwalker things that Hunter is too uncomfortable to talk about. (Hunter maybe isn't sure how he feels about Will, with his zero Martlet baggage, getting along so well with his maybe-dad. But they'd make it work.)

The Martlet shows up to the catts hideout after labyrinth runners and he's like hey have you guys seen huntEEEEEAAAAHHHHHHH WHERES HIS FUCKING ARM

Yeah Hunter is not hiding the problem from him. In mh I establish hunter is made from a collarbone, but arm worked best for lament obviously cuz I wanted that boys arm. Jasper made him, so he would know the bone was in his arm and he would know what would happen without it. And he sees this and he immediately starts screaming like AHHHHH WHERES HIS ARM WHERES HIS FUCKING ARM!!! and they're like Belos cut it off :[

Bro on the fucking spot he's like KNIFE INTO SIDE and sends everyone into a new fucking panic. He has to be fucking restrained. He's yelling at Hunter2 to help him and hunter2 is like nah dog calm the fuck down for twenty goddamn seconds dude.

So like... Hunter is not wandering off to destabilize and try to kill Belos. Everyone knows what is going on with him now and nobody is letting him fucking leave. And like. If jasper says here like... I am his father and I have the power to save him by giving him MY ortet bone. Like... Some people will argue but ultimately like. Would you truly stop a parent from saving their child's life? Even at the potential cost of their own? Eda at this point is luz's mom. She would die for her. She's going to side with him even if no one else did.

So like... Hunter isn't going to die. Mfer is missing an arm but he gets a fresh new rib. Jasper has spent a lifetime trying to save his son and there is nothing stopping him now. Now that he knows about the truth of the draining spell like. If it goes off, hunter dies. Everyone dies, but Hunter dies. Jasper is more willing to work with everyone to make a plan, sure. But he's going to face Belos himself and no one could possibly stop him from doing so.

Hello! I'm here on anon cause I'm shy. I just wanted to say I adooore your Bone of Ortet au (your belos design is A++, impeccable. And I love how you draw Hunter's ears, they look like cute bat ears). Just- the sheer amount of mental unwellness this au has caused me. I've filled a notes page of rambly thoughts for this au that I cannot fit in an ask. I love it so much. Also I wondered, would you mind if people wrote fic inspired by your au? I can't swear I'd finish anything, but I wanted to ask!

Hello there and thank you very much for your lovely words! i know i haven't touched owl house stuff in a long time but knowing that people still enjoy what I made fills me with endless joy. and yes if you want to write something, by all means! and please tag me or message me if anything gets made, i love to read it :D

If you want some more details for writing, my dms are open! i'm ashamed to admit the majority of AU story that I've written doesn't make it to tumblr - purely because I am forgetful when it comes to posting and also life is busy. But this story has come a long way since it started at "everything's the same but Belos isn't a deficit in good parenting skills"

honestly Ortet!Belos became such a different character that he probably qualifies as an OC now lmao. and the story changed with him - since he's also the main instigator of the action *plus* the protagonist of the Bone of Ortet story. but yeah definitely hit me up if you want more details! I'm more likely to respond to dms than asks because I forget about asks so easily it's frankly embarrassing. meanwhile, here's a wip of an old concept that I'm still obsessed with but haven't finished oops

Wasn't sure if I was going to revisit this design so I decided to slap a background on it and call it done for now.

A Frankenstein/beetle juice inspired Hunter who isn't technically Hunter. He does have some loose lore and a few more designs in mind since one thing I missed from the show was more clone shenanigans. Also kicking around some thumbnails for Luz based on Lydia deeds from the cartoon and one idea for Willow I feel is really strong! Loose lore ideas for not Hunter and the au under the cut!

For this au I wanted to swap out a lot of the magic for more mad science, Halloweeny nonsense. It's set slight further back in the timeline of the Boiling Isles but not in the timeline of the human realm. Philip hasn't taken over quite yet but is highly regarded as a head scientist. This Hunter isn't actually Hunter and goes by Jasper because grimwalkers aren't quite a thing yet! Instead they are a theoretical creation, a perfect rebirth of a person using a philosopher's stone instead of a galdorstone. I'm keeping the bone of ortet for now. Belos tried and was unsuccessful in raising a grimwalker, the bodies simple wouldn't wake, but in the meantime a less ethical experiment from the medical coven was yielded interesting results... The bodies provided useful tissue samples.

An unfortunate accident would see his one and only son, Jasper Wittebane struck and killed by a run away carriage. He would be pronounced dead at the scene, and alive and talking with the doctors the next morning. Rumor has it Belos gave himself no time to mourn, jumping into resurrecting his son right away, knowing that the brain and memories of a person could only keep so long. One could argue Jasper's is a few centuries past it's expiration date in places.

Jasper doesn't remember much from before the accident and doesn't understand why his father is so insistent on keeping him out of the lime light, but Belos tells him stories and shows him pictures of who he used to be making him feel guilty for not recognizing the boy in the picture. Belos on the other hand keeps him around to wheel out in front of the reporters from time to time, having gained quite a reputation as the man who conquered Death, and doesn't want Jasper loose since he's become noticeably more chatty.

News of Jasper's Resurrection has been nothing but positive, with Belos able to put an even better spin on Jasper's "borrowed", bits by claiming they were "ethically sourced."

Fun facts (aka stuff that is not super relevant and might be subjective to more changes.)

Jasper's head can come off!!! The bolt in his neck tightens the metal wire holding his head on. If it becomes too loose his head could fall off! (He's fine tho. Eda logic.)

I might make the zipper an actual part of him! Give him a zipper for increased angst.

He can't used magic since neither half has a bile sack, however he is ambidextrous and was able to draw something resembling the runes Luz would later use soon after awakening. The doctors dismissed his drawings as his brain recovering from the accident. Debating making him see ghosts and stuff because of the borrowed brain bits, causing him to has a natural distrust of Belos.

He might not be the only one! I came up with another good starter design but it was too different to believably be the same person so Belos may figure out that grimwalker problem eventually...

He might be a student at Hexside, but one with a reputation for sporadic attendance.

It's hard to tell but he has little fangs!
