Crash Course Love
Infinite thanks to @anna-swims and @elizabeth-beauchamp for being awesome betas.
AO3 :: Previously
13: Vulnerable [Jamie]
The encounter with Frank had shaken Claire deeply. To find him being unfaithful again—and this time, to the woman he was engaged to, who carried his bairn—for me, was unforgivable.
I thought over and over about my words to Claire. While I drove her home, her hand clasped in mine, I realized that I had spoken true—she was so much more than she knew, to me. I wondered how to win her affections. Despite our heated close encounter at Lallybroch, I knew for me it meant more than physical release. I had felt a deeper sort of intimacy, in spite of not knowing each other for very long, and I thought Claire did too.
But I had to tread carefully. She was still quite sore in her heart from what that arsehole Frank had done to her—wounded her pride and idea of self-worth. If I was to have half a chance with her, I needed to prove first how much I truly cared for her.
We reached her flat. I walked her up the stairs and we lingered for a minute outside her door. I wanted to say something to take away the sting of Frank’s words but before I could speak, Claire threw her arms around my neck. Her grip was vise-like, and I understood she was seeking comfort and reassurance. When her body pressed mine against the door with a soft thump, I realized something else.
“Claire, I dinna think—”
“I’d like you to come inside, Jamie.” Her voice was muffled against my shoulder, and I felt my own face redden at the double-entendre—whether she intended it or not. I was reluctant to leave her alone while she was so low, but I also didn’t want to accept her invitation for the same reason. However innocent my intentions, my instinct told me it wouldn’t be wise.
I extricated her arms from around my neck, and cradled her small hands in mine. “Claire, I want ye so much I can scarcely breathe.” Truer words were never spoken; my heart pounded at the thought of touching her again, and I swallowed hard, throat bobbing. I leaned forward to rest my forehead against hers. “But I also ken ye’re hurting right now and feel I would be taking advantage of the situation if we… if we were to take things further. Tonight, at least. Do ye understand that?”
Claire nodded slowly, her fingers tangling with mine. She sniffed, her eyes swimming with tears as she glanced up to meet my gaze. It broke my heart; I squeezed her hands gently and ran my thumbs slowly on the back of her hand.
“Sassenach, I’d like verra much to kiss ye. May I?”
She nodded as I came forward, and pecked her softly on the cheek. She seemed surprised, and it elicited a small laugh from her. Relief welled in my chest and I smiled back.
“I don’t think I told you,” Claire began, as she fished for the keys to her flat in her purse. She jiggled the lock and pushed the door open, flicking the lights on as we walked in. “Frank’s invited to the wedding as well.”
“What? Why?” I sputtered. This was getting worse and worse.
“We were all in school together. Louise—my classmate who’s getting married—invited everyone and their grandmother to the wedding. She’s marrying a very wealthy man who works in banking.”
“Sassenach, I canna for the life of me see why ye would attend at all.” She led me to a soft plushy couch and we sat next to each other, knees bumping.
“Pride.” Claire stared at her hands, knotting her fingers in her lap. “I want to show Frank that I’m alright. That he didn’t break me. Even if—”
I reached out and laid a tentative hand on hers. “He didn’t, mo nighean donn. Ye are strong. Ye wrote it on yer skin, didn’t ye?”
She touched the spot over her shoulder where the tattoo was inked. “It was… not so much what he said, but how – how dismissive he was. Does that make sense?”
“I understand, Sassenach. I’d be willing to engage in a crass amount of public displays of affection at the wedding as well. How does that sound?”
“Alright.” She laughed briefly, before turning serious again. “But I don’t want to make you uncomfortable, Jamie. I don’t want you to feel…”
“Used?”
Claire nodded, biting her lip worriedly.
“I dinna feel that, not at all. We agreed we’d help each other, did we no?” I didn’t move my hand away and it wasn’t long before our fingers twined together. We each found it was easier to talk that way; it took away some of the awkwardness that lingered occasionally, knowing what we did about each other.
Claire was the first to break a minute of silence. “What it is between us, Jamie. Is it… usual? When I touch you?”
My heart redoubled its pace. Did she feel as I did? Not wanting to urge her in my direction, I smiled back as neutrally as I could. I wanted more than anything to turn to her, offer her comfort, assure her with my body and words that what lay between us was more than a convenient arrangement. It was the truth of it that stopped me.
“No. I dinna think this is usual at all.” It wasn’t a simple infatuation either. Nothing could be less simple.
“We don’t have to figure it out now,” she said softly. “Despite everything, James Fraser… I think I—perhaps I…”
“Aye?” I encouraged, when her words trailed off; we were so close that I could breathe in the scent of her hair, her perfume, note the delicate swirl of her ear and the hollow of her clavicle above the collar of her blouse. I leaned in another fraction, but Claire turned her head.
“Never mind,” she said with a rueful smile. “I get very maudlin when I drink. All that wine, you know.”
I stood, still holding on to her hands and Claire rose with me. “I should get home then, leave ye to rest.”
“Thank you, Jamie,” she said suddenly, biting her lip. “For what you did tonight.”
“Ye did it for me as well, Sassenach. I’d do anything for ye, gladly, mo nighean donn.”
“Mo nighean donn?”
“Och, it’s Gaelic. It means ‘my brown-haired lass’.” It was my turn to feel mildly embarrassed, but she seemed to take it in stride.
“So… the wedding. It’s December 21, noon reception, Crossbasket Castle. I don’t plan on attending the ceremony itself, since I will be at the venue early and set up the flowers.”
“Will ye need any help? I’d be happy to—”
“I’ll be alright. I have Mary to help me.”
“Shall I meet ye there, then?” I walked towards the door, fumbling in my coat pocket for my car keys.
“Of course, that would be fine. I’ll see you then.” Claire leaned against the doorframe as I stepped outside. “And don’t worry, I won’t make you dance with me.”
“Worry?” I reached out swiftly and took Claire’s hand again; I pulled her against me, arm sliding about her waist. “My mam taught me how to dance. It’s all in the leading.” I spun her around, and she tripped on her own feet. I caught her, dipping her back like we were in a black-and-white film, and brought her up, both of us breathless and laughing.
“Well, then. There will be dancing. I apologize in advance for your injured toes.” Claire extricated herself from my arms and made to go inside.
Well, then.
I seized her arm lightly, turning her to face me. I took a few seconds to look into her eyes before I pressed her against the wall; I watched as they transformed to molten gold under the heat of my gaze.
“Claire, I’d like verra much to kiss ye. May I?” I saw her swallow hard and nod once more.
My lips brushed her rosy mouth. “Goodbye, Sassenach.”
The door had barely closed behind her before I pulled out my phone to call Jenny. I had a plan, and I needed some help.

AC/DC - Power up Blues Pills - Holy moly The Dangerous Summer - All that is left of the blue sky (ep, men vad fan) Dark Tranquillity - Moment Defecto - Duality Deftones - Ohms Bob Dylan - Rough and rowdy ways Gaerea - Limbo Khruangbin - Mordechai Bruce Springsteen - Letter to you
En jäkla massa filmer har blivit uppskjutna på obestämd tid, men några bra har ändå lyckats komma ut. Min topp tio:
1. The trial of the Chicago 7 2. Soul 3. 1917 4. We summon the darkness 5. The devil all the time 6. Onward 7. The hunt 8. Birds of prey 9. Mank 10. Irresistible
Ja, det tunnas ut ordentligt mot slutet av den listan. Men, eh.
1. Liam Gallagher (4/2, Köpenhamn) 2. M.O.P. (22/2, Paris) 3. Sleater-Kinney (21/2, Bryssel) 4. Dropkick Murphys (2/2, Köpenhamn) 5. Frank Turner (2/2, Köpenhamn) 6. Exodus (6/2, Köpenhamn) 7. Iceage (4/2, Köpenhamn) 8. Five Finger Death Punch (24/1, Köpenhamn) 9. And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead (19/2, Berlin) 10. Testament (6/2, Köpenhamn) 11. Purpendicular feat. Ian Paice (1/2, Malmö) 12. Death Angel (6/2, Köpenhamn) 13. 3Teeth (18/2, Malmö) 14. Siniestro (10/10, Malmö) 15. Bad Wolves (24/1, Köpenhamn) 16. Katie Harkin (21/2, Bryssel) 17. Jesse Ahern (2/2, Köpenhamn) 18. Alex Henry Foster (19/2, Berlin) 19. Megadeth (24/1, Köpenhamn) 20. Biomekkanik (18/2, Malmö) 21. Bloodofjupiter (10/10, Malmö)
Annat? Jo, har sprungit 225 mil i år.

Snape Lives Playlist!
I honestly made this a week ago and I've been jamming to it since. Here's twenty five songs about (sometimes reluctantly) surviving, growing up, moving on, and being free to live the life you want. I hope you guys like it!
1. "Prelude/Angry Young Man," Billy Joel
2. "Don't Be Shy," Cat Stevens
3. "Like a Soldier," Johnny Cash
4. "Fu*k it!" Days 'N Daze
5. "When I'm Gone," Phil Ochs
6. "Ten Things," Paul Baribeau
7. "Calling Old Friends," Defiance, Ohio
8. "Skyline Pigeon," Elton John
9. "Recovery," Frank Turner
10. "Diamonds and Rust," Joan Baez (A great song about moving past toxic lovers. I believe I read somewhere that this song was actually written about Bob Dylan.)
11. "Hallelujah," Panic! At the Disco
12. "I'm Set Free," The Velvet Underground (For when he finally has the time to overcome all that damn trauma.)
13. "Life is Beautiful," Sixx A.M.
14. "I Wanna Get Better," Bleachers
15. "Roll Me Through the Gates of Hell," Mischief Brew (I kinda headcanon this as his tounge in cheek response to Rita Skeeter's little book.)
16. "Lookin' for a Love," Neil Young and Crazy Horse (For those who headcanon romance.)
17. "Thunder Road," Bruce Springsteen (I see him finding peace a car. He drives it through the countryside in the middle of the night. The sounds of nature calm him and rejuvinate him.)
18. "Neil Armstrong," Allo Darlin' (Another post-war romance song.)
19. "Hey Bulldog," The Beatles (I headcanon that he hated the Beatles but that they grew on him when he heard their later, more introspective songs.)
20. "Take Back the Power," The Interrupters
21. "Thanks Buddy," The Gunshy
22. "I'm Free (Heaven Helps the Man,)" Kenny Loggins (This is originally from Footloose. This is such a powerful moment in the musical and I can't help but feel like he'd enjoy the idea of telling the man off and doing your own thing.)
23. "I Don't Wanna Be an As*hole Anymore," The Menzingers

mine ; nsfw
hello kiddies! to thank you all so much for 200+ followers!! i am so sorry for the inactivity lately. my finger is finally feeling better, though, so here is a wee prompt for you kiddies! this one is nsfw, so be warned.
ye’re mine, and i don’t share
enjoy, loves! you know the drill - feedback is welcome, appreciated, and encouraged!
She had been driving him absolutely wild all night long, with her low cut dress and that short skirt and her whiskey eyes. Christ, she didn’t even know she was doing it, but she kept batting her eyelashes and flicking the hair off her shoulder and he kept losing his mind.
She had been the unquestioned star of the show all night long, in that black dress that clung to her hips just right, a string of pearls shining at her throat. It didn’t matter that she came in on his arm, or that it was his ring that glittered on the fourth finger of her left hand - every guy in the room wanted her attention.
Jamie sat, fiddling with his glass of whiskey, watching her from across the room. Claire was a natural at this, a socialite in her element. She knew just when to smile, when to laugh. It was damn near art.
She was doing it now; glass of champagne perched delicately in one hand, and her other reached out to touch the sleeve of a man, her head tilted back in a laugh at whatever it was he had said. Her smile was magnetic. People were drawn to her, and he knew damn well why. She was enchanting.
But as with all things wondrous, there was always the unwanted attention. In a heartbeat, Jamie watched the look on the man’s face change. Claire’s arm dropped from his sleeve, and the stranger’s eyes narrowed in a way Jamie knew all too well, his eyes dark and watching as Claire turned her attention to chat with a slender redheaded woman. He watched as the man’s eyes raked down Claire’s form and then back up, and then the goddamn bastard licked his lips.
Jamie was on his feet in a second, slamming back his whiskey and making his way across the room, eyes focused on the dark haired stranger eyeing his fiance like a piece of meat.
Jamie set one hand in the small of her back as he approached, and she turned at once to look up at him, her smile radiant. She didn’t miss a beat with the woman she was talking to, but she reached one hand out to touch Jamie’s chest, and he quieted marginally. The other man carefully avoided his eyes, swirling the remnants of brandy in his glass.
“Jamie,” then it was Claire’s voice and he was looking down at her and everything else seemed momentarily obsolete. She gestured with one elegant hand to the woman. “This is Geilis Duncan, she’s a surgeon at the hospital with me-” Jamie reached to take Geilis’ hand, bowing his head with murmured greeting. “-and this is Professor Frank Randall, he works at Harvard.”
So the stranger had a name.
Jamie’s eyes met Frank’s over the top of Claire’s head and electricity crackled. The professor forced a small smile, hiding it behind the rim of his glass, and Jamie stood up a little straighter. “A pleasure,” he bit out, extending one hand, which Frank took with what Jamie sensed was slight hesitation. The man’s hand was neat and manicured, the palm smooth in comparison to his own, and Jamie saw Frank’s adam’s apple bob as he purposely squeezed a little harder.
Claire was oblivious to the standoff between the two men, busy exchanging her now empty glass of champagne with a fresh one. She turned back to them and the moment ended, Jamie and Frank releasing their grips on each other’s hands, though the charged looks exchanged between the two only seemed to worsen as Claire sidled up next to Jamie, her hand resting on his chest. The stone on her left hand caught the light and glittered. “-my fiance, James Fraser,” she was saying, smiling at the other two.
The corner of Jamie’s mouth twitched, and he wrapped one arm easily around her waist, arching one ruddy eyebrow in Frank’s direction.
The professor swallowed the rest of his whiskey and tersely excused himself to go and get another.
Jamie dropped his keys in the bowl with a clatter as they stepped into their small flat, reaching to flick the lights in the kitchen on as Claire fought with her heels in the foyer.
“God, I am exhausted,” she laughed, following Jamie into the kitchen. “I need a glass of wine. A large one.” She leaned up on her toes to kiss his cheek as she passed.
Jamie poured Claire a healthy glass of red wine and turned to hand it to her with a smile, exchanging it for a chaste kiss before retrieving two fingers of whiskey for himself. “I’m sorry to drag you to that.” Claire’s nose wrinkled. “You must have been miserable, but thank you for coming. It meant a lot to me.”
He chuckled, and shook his head. “Och, dinna fash about it, Sassenach. I’m happy ta go with ye.” The smile she gave him would have been worth the whole night again.
“Professor Randall seems nice,” she said, changing the subject. “He donated a lot of money to the hospital. We might even be able to fix up my OR like I was telling you about.”
Jamie hummed, taking a swig of whiskey, and Claire’s eyebrows drew together, her wine glass half raised to her lips. She set it down on the counter and folded her arms across her chest. “What’s wrong, Jamie?”
He felt bad immediately for selfishly making what should have been her night all of a sudden about him, but the feeling in his stomach when he first saw Frank looking at Claire was still simmering in his belly. He took a drink of whiskey, and his eyes met Claire’s over the lip of his glass.
What she saw there made her let out a small breath, and she leaned back against the counter, something in her eyes changing. “Oh,” she breathed, “like that, is it?” The air between them crackled, and she easily boosted herself up onto the counter, her dress giving him a sneaky glance at a pair of lacy red underwear.
He made a noise in the back of his throat, and she grew bolder, encouraged. She leaned back on her hands, tilting her head to look at him, and then reached one hand up to cup her breast. Her nipple hardened through the thin fabric, and Jamie stood momentarily dumbstruck, caught between arousal and amusement at the fact that she hadn’t worn a bra.
He closed the gap between them in two strides, his hands coming down to grasp her hips and pull her to him, and her breath caught in a cross between a moan and a gasp as she locked her ankles behind his hips. She sat up, curling her fists in the lapels of his suit jacket, pressing herself flush to his chest. “Like that, is it?”
He caught her mouth in a bruising kiss and slid one hand down her back to press her hips closer to his, eliciting a small, excited mewling sound from her. They broke apart panting, and he moved his lips to her throat, sucking and nipping at the expanse of pale skin. “Aye, like that,” he growled, and she tipped her head back, her hands coming up to twine in the hair at the base of his skull. “Ye’re mine, and I don’t share.”
The breath rushed out of Claire in a gasp, and she nodded, pulling his head back up to catch his lips in hers once more. “Yes,” she breathed, her hands shoving at his jacket, pushing it down off his shoulders and arms. “Yes, I’m yours. Have me.”
That was all the permission he needed. In the space between heartbeats, he had hiked her dress up and out of the way, hands roaming, searching, teasing as she fumbled with his belt buckle, her hands trembling. Their breath billowed together, and the air between them crackled. Frustrated, she made a low noise in the back of her throat, and Jamie leaned in to kiss her, swallowing it eagerly as she finally got his belt free. She threw it, and it clattered somewhere on the floor, forgotten. She shoved his pants down as he grasped her panties, tearing them in his haste to get them off of her and laugh in her throat turned quickly into wanton as he crushed her to him. And then suddenly he was inside her, alive and moving, and she was writhing, grasping at the shirt on his shoulders and back.
“Oh, God, Jamie,” she groaned, burying her face in his neck, her breath harsh and warm against his skin, and one hand reached between them to grasp his tie, pulling. “Oh God.”
His own groans and heavy breathing matched the steady rhythm of flesh on flesh, and Claire’s words dissolved into a series of noises and moans, her heart thumping hard enough that he could feel it against his chest.
When she peaked, it was fast and violent and she lost herself with a low, keening noise, locked around him as she spasmed with pleasure. His own arousal rose to a tidal wave and he pressed up deeper, closer, searching, drawing out her pleasure, and soon lost himself with a growl, biting down on her shoulder as his hips bucked up into her.
They stayed locked that way as their highs ended, both trembling, sweating, and then Claire drew back, her face flushed and her eyes bright, her mouth open and slack, and leaned in to kiss him slowly, deeply, tenderly.
Mine, his body cried.
Yours, hers echoed in return.
