Hollywood and Elm Part 7 - Freddy's Nightmares (1988-1990)
In today's review, the T.V. screen becomes the perfect arena for nightmareish dreamscapes. As I attempt a #positive review of the late 80s T.V. anthology Freddy's Nightmares #LoriPetty #BradPitt #KyleChandler #GeorgeLazenby #LarParkLincoln #DickMiller
Our dreams can be the best entertainment, a pseudo-coherent narrative, inspired by the events of the day, the food you ate, or whatever else is plaguing your mind. The realm of Freddy Krueger showed its potential on the big screen, but for the longest time, his home antics were only reserved for V.H.S. In 1988, the success of the franchise inspired a creepy T.V. anthology. One that broadcasted…

Utopia on Mars - July 22nd, 1996.
"The Viking 2 spacecraft was launched on the Road to Utopia in September of 1975 (30 years after Bing, Dotty, and Bob). In August of 1976, after making the second successful Martian landing, Viking 2's lander began recording data used to produce this exquisitely detailed image of the Martian surface, in the area of Utopia Planitia (the Plain of Utopia). Visible at the lower right is the protective shroud that covered the lander's soil collector head, ejected after the descent, along with one of the lander's dust covered footpads. Seen near the center are shallow trenches dug by the sampler arm. Mars looks red because its surface is covered with reddish iron oxide dust (rust). This dust, suspended in the thin carbon dioxide atmosphere, also filters the sunlight, causing surface views to take on a reddish tinge."

National Coming Out Day.
My first job in 1977 was at Gizmo Development (NYC) (for inventor Harvey Rosenberg and he was straight) designing the packaging and printed material for the Gay Bob Doll. No computers...remember Letraset?
Bob symbolized that every individual was entitled to say: "I have a right to be what I am." At the time of Gay Bob's introduction, however, not everyone thought so. Popular advice columnist Ann Landers wrote that she would believe such a doll existed when she saw one in the respectable stores she patronized. "Esquire" magazine conferred its Dubious Achievement Award of 1978. The doll represents times when Americans were less tolerant of diversity. Let's NOT go back...make sure you go out and VOTE!

Favorite Takes - Marvel/Spider-Man
Where I cite my personal favorite non-source material (so film, TV, and video games only) adaptations of some comic book characters.
Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Insomniac Games (Yuri Lowenthal)
Marvel VS Capcom (Josh Keaton)
Spider-Man 90's Animated Series (Christopher Daniel Barnes)
The Spectacular Spider-Man (Josh Keaton)
Marvel's Spider-Man (Robbie Daymond)
Sony/MCU (Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland)
NOTE: And the Spider-Men voiced by Paul Soles, Dan Gilvezan, Ted Schwartz, Rino Romano, Neil Patrick Harris, Chris Edgerly, James Arnold Taylor, Mike Vaughn, Mike Kelley, Sam Reigel, Sean Chiplock, Griffin Burns, Jake Johnson, and Hudson Thames are all contenders.
Mary Jane Watson
Insomniac Games (Laura Bailey)
Sam Raimi Trilogy (Kirsten Dunst)
MCU (Zendaya Coleman)
MTV Spider-Man New Animated Series (Lisa Loeb)
The Spectacular Spider-Man (Vanessa Marshall)
Marvel Rising (Tara Strong) and Marvel's Spider-Man (Felicia Day)
NOTE: Other fine MJs are Andrea Taylor in the Ultimate Spider-Man video game, Dana Seltzer in Web of Shadows, Laura Vandervoort in Edge Of Time, Quinn Ljoka in Marvel Avengers Academy, and Zoe Kravitz in Into The Spiderverse. Kari Wahlgren also did a decent Kirsten Dunst in the Spider-Man 3 video game, and Erika Harlacher Stone was spot on casting for her in Spider-Geddon, albeit wasted.
Gwen Stacy
Marvel's Spider-Man (Laura Bailey)
The Spectacular Spider-Man (Lacey Chabert)
Spiderverse Trilogy (Hailee Steinfeld)
Marvel Rising (Dove Cameron)
Mark Webb Duology (Emma Stone)
Sam Raimi Trilogy (Bryce Dallas Howard)
NOTE: Yeah, Laura Bailey is Best MJ AND Best Gwen! And the only other Gwens I think come close to contending with these ones would be the ones voiced by Mary Kay Bergman and Ashley Johnson.
Harry Osborn
Sam Raimi Trilogy (James Franco)
The Spectacular Spider-Man (James Arnold Taylor)
MTV Spider-Man New Animated Series (Ian Ziering)
Marvel's Spider-Man (Max Mittelman)

Insomniac Games (Nadji Jeter)
Marvel's Spider-Man (Nadji Jeter)

Sam Raimi Trilogy + MCU (Willem Dafoe)
Marvel's Spider-Man (Josh Keaton)
Spider-Man 90s Animated Series (Neil Ross)
Insomniac Games (Mark Rolston) and The Black Order (Steve Blum)
LEGO Marvel (Nolan North, Josh Keaton)
NOTE: Steven Weber in Ultimate Spider-Man was a decent Norman but an awful Goblin, while Len Carlson, Dennis Marks, and Sam Vincent all did good Green Goblins but weren't really Normans.
Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus
Sam Raimi Trilogy + MCU (Alfred Molina)
Insomniac Games and The Black Order (William Salyers)
The Spectacular Spider-Man (Peter Macnicol)
Marvel's Spider-Man (Scott Menville)
Spider-Man 90's Animated Series (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.)

The Spectacular Spider-Man (Ben Diskin)
Spider-Man PS1 (Daran Norris) and Sony/MCU (Tom Hardy)

Sony/MCU (Tom Hardy)
Sam Raimi Trilogy (Topher Grace)
Spider-Man 90's Animated Series (Hank Azaria)

The Vulture
The Spectacular Spider-Man (Robert Englund)

MCU (Michael Keaton)
Marvel's Spider-Man (Alastair Duncan)
Insomniac Games (Dwight Schultz)
NOTE: Gillie Fenwick, Paul Soles, Don Messick, Christopher Tabori, Brian George and Steve Blum also deserve acknowledgement here.

MCU (Jake Gyllenthal)
Shattered Dimensions (David Kaye)
The Spectacular Spider-Man (Xander Berkley)
Spider-Man 90's Animated (Gregg Berger)

Hobgoblin
Spider-Man 90's Animated Series (Mark Hamill)
Marvel Superhero Adventures (Andrew Francis)
Universal Studios Ride (Patrick Fraley)
The Spectacular Spider-Man (Courtney B. Vance)
Shattered Dimensions (Steve Blum)
NOTE: Marvel's Spider-Man barely counts for this, as it was just Harry and Norman respectively wearing a phony superhero identity.

Spider-Man 90's Animated Series (Martin Landau, Richard Moll)
Marvel's Spider-Man (Jason Spisak)

Sam Raimi Trilogy Video Games (Holly Fields)
Mark Webb Duology Video Games (Ali Hillis)
NOTE: Audrey Wasilewski, Katee Sachkhoff, Grey Griffin, Mel Gorsha, and Erika Harlacher Stone were also contenders here.
Michael Morbius
Spider-Man 90's Animated Series (Nick Jameson)
Sony/MCU (Jared Leto)
Ultimate Spider-Man (Ben Diskin)
Sam Raimi Trilogy Games (Sean Donnellan)
Marvel Superhero Squad (Tom Kenny)

Spider-Man 90's Animated Series (Roscoe Lee Brown)
The Punisher Video Game (David Sobolov)
Raimi Trilogy Video Game (Bob Joles)
Insomniac Games (Travis Willingham) and The Black Order (Tim Blaney)
NOTE: Tom Harvey, Stan Jones, Stephen Stanton, Gregg Berger, Jim Cummings and JB Blanc also gave commendable takes on Fisk that worked for the iterations they were playing. Sorry to say, Spiderverse fans, but Liev Schreiber's Kingpin does nothing for me.
Doctor Doom
Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Clive Revill)
90's Animated Marvel (Neil Ross, Simon Templeman, Tom Kane, Ross Marquand)
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (Lex Lang)
Marvel VS Capcom (Paul Dobson)

Spider-Man 80's Animated Series (Ralph James)
NOTE: Henry Ramer, Freddy Stebbin, Charlie Adler, Fred Tatasciore, Travis Willingham, and Grahama McTavish are also good Dooms.

Abandoning Your Post.
(this isn't a part of sotw just thought it'd be cute to write a little what this context to this picture could be, I have no idea what @mindifirelax has planned, I'm just having fun lol)
"Its gotta feel good right, a job well done?"
"The job is never done, I'm afraid. We may have succeeded in recovery. But she will not let this stand. I know My Queen well, she must have answers."
"Y'think ion know that, I stopped thinking about our time frame a long time ago. Way I see it, I'm here till I'm not. Just would have been nice for him to say something."
Owen absentmindedly leaned back against the Archers tall frame. He felt him tense for a moment, before relaxing. It wasn't like the celebration lended much to lean against, besides, it was a good vantage point to keep an eye on the warrior. It wasn't really his fault, he doubted Gregor had much choice over a time frame. He might as well settle the notion in his mind.
Gregor's eyes had nearly shut his smile was so wide. He and Luxa spun around, dancing to the upbeat pattering of the hand drums and shaking of their makeshift instruments. Newly freed servants celebrating their independence with dancing and hollering! Gregor wrapped his free hand around Luxa's waist, her hand going to his back as they pressed their foreheads together, laughing as they playfully navigated the dancefloor in near unity.
A grunt was heard behind him, as Owen felt the archer settle his chin in his curls. Owen shoulders bobbed once in a short silent nasal exhale of amusement. Surely, his hair hadn't provided that much of an obstacle? But he could tell that Aiden wasn't pleased with what he was seeing.
"Oh come aaawn, it's a dance, you're acting like he's proposing."
"It starts with a dance—"
"—in their case a slap."
"IN no time I'm watching over 3 half lander children, not including Hazard."
"Ok, I seriously think you have Gregor pegged all wrong. Dudes a fumbling mess when he's around her. I doubt That is anywhere in the forefront of his mind. Let them be happy, is that too much to ask? We all deserve some happiness, right?"
Owen shifted his head, resting against Aiden's collarbone. It was strange how it felt, how settled he had become against his body. It felt as if Aiden had done everything in his power to keep him comfortable like this. There wasn't any resistance, things felt—natural. Aiden slowly coursed his arms around the boys waist, hands resting on his stomach. Leaning slightly downward to the Seekers ear.
"In our line of work...we sacrifice. I—I would like to be...happy." he admitted. "Even if for a moment.."
Owen couldn't tell if it was the pounding of the drums that rang in his chest or if it was in fact his heart. He shifted his head again, looking down at the ring of arms he had found himself in. It felt possessive, a call requiring response. It was a feeling seeking affirmation, his feeling, theirs. But he couldn't react, it had felt unfamiliar yet nostalgic. It was as if he had always been in the Archers grasp. A feeling that should have spelled danger, spelled a feeling that even now dared to be fleeting.
"Wouldn't you?" Aiden asked, his voice silken, and warm with intent.
Owen let out another nasal exhale of a laugh. With a shake of his head, he reached up, Lacing his fingers in the archers, lightly prying his arms off of him, he lifted away, their fingers slowly slipping apart as he looked over his shoulder. Aiden's face had softened, eyes carrying a embarrassingly obvious look of loss.
"Where are you—"
"She's got both her bonds, her boyfriend, and people who currently think she's Joan of Arc. I'm gonna go find my happiness on a shitty tavern cot." Owen replied as he finally let go of Aiden's hand.
The Archer watched as Owen slowly began to walk away from the party towards the tavern. His eyes seemed glued to Owens back, narrowed with a focused newfound—
"Damn it." He muttered under his breath.
He glanced back to the crowd, watching his queen happier than ever. For the first time in his life, he felt torn. As if he was watching sand falling in an hourglass. His breath felt short, his chest and cheeks felt warm. Yet his stomach felt cold, and shaky. His eyes scanned the crowd, spotting their guide stuffing his face with immense effort. Glancing back to the direction of the tavern he noticed Owen had stopped. The boy wore a face he couldn't quite place, but it nearly took the air from his lungs. It was expectant, almost demanding in its hopefulness.
For a moment they stared at each other, a moment for Aiden to try to decipher Owen's demeanor. A moment for Owen to solidify his intention. Eventually, Owen offered a small nonchalant shrug before continuing to walk away.
Only a few moments passed before Aidan let out a frustrated groan, a final glance at Luxa, as if the apology on his face could be felt.
Before he swiftly turned on his heel, and followed The Seeker.

After watching a few videos on Trade Master Greenish's trade offers, there was one part in which gave me this idea: During your weapons/lander upgrades, the Melnorme trading ship "Inevitably Successful in All Circumstances"(yes, that is LITERALLY what their starship is named!), found an artifact called the MetaChron(the pyramid-shaped device) which has predicted its own demise and the Melnorme have only a few years to sell it. One detail that Trade Master Greenish mentions is that it may affect his well-being, because he keeps it under his pillow.
Hence this silly idea of him checking under his pillow to make sure the MetaChron hasn't darkened as of yet(since in the game, he says it's light gray when he tells you about it). No wonder it might affect your well-being, it must be terribly lumpy and bright!
Trade Master Greenish, the Melnorme race and Star Control 2 belong to Toys for Bob, no infringement is ever intended!

Space Ghost Week
Wherein we cover an entire season of Space Ghost Coast to Coast over the course of a week
Space Ghost Coast to Coast #45: “BooBooKitty” | October 3, 1997 | S04E12
Wonderful episode. Space Ghost interviews Michael McKean and David Lander (whom we briefly saw in the Beck episode), known to many as TV’s Lenny and Squiggy from TV’s Laverne and Shirley (UM, I know them from their renowned sketch comedy group The Credibility Gap, but whatEVER). The episode gets its name from said program, a trivia fact I’ve known for years. Look, I don’t mean to brag but I’ve seen a number of episodes of Laverne and Shirley and I do not remember a second of BooBooKitty. I think it’s a stuffed animal that Shirley has. I’ve never seen it! It doesn’t exist.
The plot of this one is that Space Ghost has Zorak staying with him at his apartment, which we get to see, even. Living with him is like living in a living nightmare (this is a thing Space Ghost says). Also: Tansut gets fired! Space Ghost gets gonged out of a roommate’s spat for quoting the “Chuckles Bites the Dust” episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show! A cat gets popped, YOUCH! And then at the end you get to see Space Ghost riding a fish around like some sorta freaking fish-rider. Dolphins are definitely fish. Don’t @ me
It’s worth noting this: Space Ghost uses the phrase “born for fun, loyal to none” to describe Zorak. I googled this and found the phrase “Sworn to fun, loyal to none” in various forms, the earliest I could find was from renowned Underground Comix creator Robert Williams print from 1974. The variation used here seems to come from David Cross! In the uncut interview for Bob and David’s episode, David says he had the phrase tattooed to his back as a newborn baby. The raw interview can be found on disc 2 of Space Ghost Coast to Coast Volume 3.

Popular advice columnist Ann Landers wrote that she would believe such a doll existed when she saw one in the respectable stores she patronized. "Esquire" magazine conferred its Dubious Achievement Award of 1978. The doll represents times when Americans were less tolerant of diversity. Still are.
