Here.
Charlotte, meet Avery Erwin, a 30 year old resident. Hailing from Atlanta, GA, she’s been living in the neighborhood of Dilworth here for most of her life.  She’s been told she looks like the twin of Lili Reinhart, but she disagrees.
GET TO KNOW THEM --
x She owns a bakery but it got shut down by the city when she spiraled now she is doing tiktok and only fans to keep the bills paid.  x Avery’s parents were too young to take care of her in Atlanta so she didn’t stay there very long. In fact she barely remembers her parents and has only ever lived with her grandparents. She was very close to her grandmother. x When her grandmother passed Avery opened up a bakery in her honor but it didn’t last long because after she lost both grandparents Avery went down a dark path. She was doing drugs and in a depressive state and during this time her best friend Dani had been taking care of Avery’s daughter; Olivia.  x She can be found on all social media accounts by the handle @youngheart. x People often describe her as loyal, independent, and outgoing but also blunt, envious, and passive aggressive. x When she’s not at work or with friends, she likes to watch Bob's Burgers and TikTok. x Her favorite person is her best friend, Dani Harte.
TO THE GRAVE --
When she was involved in her drug stage she had an abortion before having her daughter now. She wasn’t ready to be a mother back then and was definitely not in the right state of mind. She was afraid she wouldn’t be the right kind of mother for the baby and couldn’t deal with being pregnant.

"part of what’s happening is artists of color have had to create a visual expression of what’s happening in the country today and how to counteract or address the issue is through art. art has always been a way to comment, to give some expression to what’s going on. art reflects life, reflects people who are trying [to] understand a rapidly changing society, a rapidly changing world. and they’re expressing it in novels and poetry and painting and song. art helps other people to understand what’s going on in their world. artists can create, through metaphor, a window into what’s going on in the world" ... bob dilworth "oh, what's going on (what's going on) yeah, what's going on (what's going on) tell me what's going on (what's going on) i'll tell you what's going on (what's going on)" ... marvin gaye

Creators first!
FredFilms Postcard Series 3.4
Great films are always known as a collaboration. But it’s also true that great films, like all wonderful art, start as one person’s vision.*
Sure, we’ve all heard of movies and series where that original spark is then added to with lots of other voices. That’s fine when it works, but it’s not the way I prefer to do things.
I’ve written before about how working with world class jazz musicians helped me forge the path toward becoming a cartoon producer. When I got into animation I think I’d learned that putting the right person in the room –the creator*– was the way I wanted to work for the rest of my life.
First at Hanna-Barbera, then at Frederator, my career has been honored by the presence of amazing creative vision. Creator’s vision. I am lucky.
Now, at FredFilms, nothing’s changed.
Creators first!
* And yes, the “creator” can be partnership of two or three people. In my experience, one or two is works best, but on rare occasions, three can do it.

COLLAGE ON VIEW
Putting the Pieces Back Together
at the Bristol Art Museum in Bristol, Rhode Island, USA through 1 April 2022. “Putting the Pieces Back Together” is a juried exhibition of collages and constructions by 105 artists from twenty-two states. The works express the idea of putting life back together after the COVID-19 pandemic. University of Rhode Island Professor of Art Bob Dilworth served as juror. The organizers received over 430 submissions for the exhibition. MORE
*****************************
Kolaj Magazine, a full color, print magazine, exists to show how the world of collage is rich, layered, and thick with complexity. By remixing history and culture, collage artists forge new thinking. To understand collage is to reshape one's thinking of art history and redefine the canon of visual culture that informs the present.

Meet The Creator interview with John R. Dilworth
(from cartoonnetworkLA.com, circa 2001)
Tumblr media
"JOHN R. DILWORTH (Creator/Director)
Artistic background/Schooling?
"New York School of Visual Art."
Why don't you think of animation as a career?
"I just enjoy it more than I do anything else. To actually see and manipulate your designs or characters so that they move and express emotion and tell a story - that's animation. It feels natural to me."
Where did you get the idea for the creation of COURAGE THE COWARDLY DOG?
"I wish to Rodin's inferiority complex I could come up with something much more interesting than the truth. Wouldn't it be more fun to say, Scooby-Doo? I simply intended to."
What were some of your favorite cartoons as a child and why?
"I couldn't express to you the impact the Golden Age of animation had on me. But, it was children's book illustration that motivated me to animation."
It seems COURAGE THE COWARDLY DOG has something appealing for both kids and adults. How do you create a show that can attract both audiences?
"I haven't met anyone who hasn't responded well to basic olive oil, garlic and salt. For the real adventurers - sugar."
Do you have a favorite episode at this point? Can you describe it?
"My favorite episode is "Shadow." It is the story of a misunderstood personality who eventually discovers himself and goes on to a new life. When my brother traveled to "where the sea meets the sky," I discovered many parallels in theme to his life and the cartoon. The Shadow (guest villain) fulfilled obligations that did not match what he really wanted from life. The Shadow eventually lives the life he always dreamed of. Regretfully, the writer for Jimmy's story was unwilling to allow him to live the life he always dreamed of here. And maybe Jimmy finally is too. As Courage would say, "The things I do for love."
Instructors and Influences:
"This season I went to the Metropolitan Opera, and I learned a tremendous amount by the staging, the way they would maximize the most out of a frame, a setup, through all the singers and the ensemble, and even the beautiful way they move sets as a transition." "I love the old classic Charlie Chaplin shorts, for their comedic timing and characterization. The animators that make me laugh the most are Bob Clampett and Tex Avery for their use of their breaking the laws of animation and still retaining a law within."
During the making of Courage, what have you learned in your growth as an individual?
"The one thing I learned - beyond anything else - is greater tolerance and patience with others.""

FredFilms promises...
Creators first.
I've always believed that we owe you, our fans and now at FredFilms we all take it as gospel. We owe you our best work, of course. But beyond we examine everything about ourselves constantly, to assure ourselves and you that we’re trying to stay on the right track. To that end, whatever work I’ve done –whether it be in the music business, the network television business, and certainly, cartoons– has been done with making public promises that try and assure you that we’ll deliver.
To that end, I thought it would be good to print out a new set of our limited edition postcards to make the FredFilms promises completely clear. This one’s the first.
As throughout my entire cartoon career, and now at FredFilms, it’s been my  mission to let exceptional creators do their thing. We’re not in the business of micro-managing our creative talent. Instead, we seek out and nurture creators who have a story they need to tell and give them as much room as possible to tell it.. We go to festivals, art schools, comedy clubs, and explore the dustiest corners of the internet to find folks we know we have to work with.
We believe there are new stories to be told.
We promise.
.....
It might seem extreme, but I thought it might be interesting to list all of the creators that have worked on my productions, starting in 1995 with What A Cartoon! at Hanna-Barbera and Cartoon Network in 1995. If you look at any of the 140 individual links (!) you’ll see that almost all of them have had estimable careers in cartoons or animation adjacent (comics, video games, VFX and the like). Some have created hit series with me, some without (sigh!) and some have become quite famous. One way or the other, they’ve all been amazing.

The 15 Hottest New Restaurants in Charlotte, North Carolina
Today, Eater returns to Charlotte, North Carolina, to focus on 15 new bars and restaurants that have been garnering some serious buzz. Once again, writer and photographer Rémy Thurston has kindly offered his picks for the hottest openings of the past 12 months.
Among his recommendations are a members-only speakeasy (Dot Dot Dot), a soul food go-to known for its fried chicken (Haberdish), a So-Cal-inspired taco stand with plenty of margaritas (SouthBound), and a steakhouse that has quickly become a meat lover’s paradise (The Porter’s House).
Without further ado, and in geographic order, the Eater Heatmap to Charlotte:
Tim and Melanie Groody helped pioneer Charlotte’s farm-to-table movement with their first restaurant, Fork, and now they’re bringing their fresh, local flavors to Asian cuisine with Ramen Soul just up I-77 in Mooresville. Since it opened in June, the Southern-inspired ramen spot has been packed with ramen-loving locals.
The marriage of beer and coffee continues to blow up with Lindsey Pittman’s new coffee venture, Trade and Lore, which shares a space with newly opened Salud Cerveceria. Her inventive offerings pair well with Salud owner Jason Glunt’s adventurous local and international beer flavors — if possible, attend his annual sour beer festival in December. Don’t sleep on the homemade Fud at Salud or the waffle-wiches either.
Famous for its pressure-fried chicken but beloved for its sides — the creamed kale grits are a frequent order — the mill-town restaurant brought its own version of the dimly lit, cozy Edison-bulb style to NoDa this year. Restaurateur-owner Jeff Tonidandel, known for Crepe Cellar and Growlers Pourhouse, also hired famed local bartender Colleen Hughes, who upped the Charlotte cocktail scene with ice-cube flowers in the Haberdish cocktails.
For those wanting high-end barista-crafted coffee beverages without getting out of the car, owner Ian Kolb opened CupLux off of Freedom Drive. Serving commuters and locals alike, this spot provides everyone with cappuccino and latte art on their way to work. And make sure to ask your server to lightly warm the baked goods — it makes a difference.
This three-level destination opened in July. The ground floor is a bustling restaurant where one can find dishes inspired by the chef’s extensive travels — like Southern pad Thai with beer noodles. The Loft is a speakeasy-style bar with revolving live music performers, and the soon-to-open Cellar has a private wine room and 20 seats for private dining along with a tasting menu.
The lounge bar (known as the K Lounge to those in the know) at the Ritz-Carlton got a revamp in January and is now an attraction all on its own. It serves small plates with global inspirations, like the Peruvian crispy pork belly or the green curry baba ganoush, and offers a bar program godfathered by Bob Peters, who famously runs the modern lounge the Punch Room on the 15th floor. It’s the perfect place for guests to forget they’re waiting for someone.
Charlotte’s newest brewery (making the total 18 inside city limits) opened to fanfare in Plaza Midwood because of its accessibility to locals and restorative beers. The menu is full of wild ferments, hoppy IPAs, and barrel-aged beauties, which can all be enjoyed on a large patio with rotating food trucks stopping in. Its beers are a neighborhood welcome in a glass.
After moving Passion8 to Elizabeth in 2014, chef Luca Annunziata and his wife, Jessica, decided to revamp the concept and return to their Italian roots. Their modern takes on Italian dishes, like the diver scallops with squid ink gnocchi, are exactly what a hip nonna would make after a long day. Try the rabbit ragu for a lighter version of a traditional meat sauce.
In January, Jaffer Kovic hoped to open a wine bar in Dilworth without any stuffiness. The Dilworth Tasting Room offers a bright, open space with plenty of seating for locals to sit with a glass of wine that they may not have heard of before. The selection, available both by the glass and in retail bottles, is on the smaller side to give customers a chance to try a more targeted variety. Be sure to swirl a glass of red among the leaves on the lush patio.
Previously known for his Roots food truck, chef Craig Barbour took his extensive catering business and added a brick-and-mortar cafe to the mix. Decorated with plenty of natural wood and stocked with local goods, this hole-in-the-wall off South Boulevard in Dilworth offers craft coffees, a root-vegetable-laden brunch, casual lunch and dinner options, as well as wine and grab-and-go foods for the busier clientele.
Tacos and margaritas may never go out of style, especially when So-Cal beach vibes radiate through this new spot off of South Boulevard. It’s backed by Jimmie Johnson, and guests can expect stock-car-fast service and icy beverages to get them through the weekend. Load up on the chipotle cream from the salsa bar in the back.
Coffee bar, taphouse, culinary cafe, fermentation lab — it may sound like four different establishments, but Suffolk Punch (the food side) and Hyde Brewing (the drink side) make the most of one roof by serving everything from refreshing cachaça cocktails and IPAs to tuna poke and za’atar-roasted squash. Dan Hyde runs the brewery, while notable caffeine queen Lindsey Pittman helms the coffee program.
Dot Dot Dot is an upscale Prohibition-style cocktail lounge only open to members, who can purchase a $10 membership on its site. Those in the know can find it in the back lot of the Park Road Shopping Center near the loading docks. The newly formed team of Stefan Huebner, formerly of Heist, and Conrad Hunter, owner of Foxcroft Wine Co., bring style and a curated bar menu of eccentric cocktails, like the truffled New York sour, to Charlotte’s next hot neighborhood.
The Indigo Road restaurant group has a solid reputation in Charleston, but it’s been spreading the gospel of service done well across the Southeast in recent years. Oak Steakhouse in SouthPark extends yet another branch of that hospitality, offering customers prime certified Angus beef, served in a comfortable yet modern setting with sides to match.
Since opening in February, the Porter’s House has been attracting meat lovers to Waverly. Owners Kim and Jon Dressler (of Dressler’s and Dogwood Southern Table) branded it as “a modern chop house for the new South,” but the breadth of menu — care to order the duck-fat-fried fingerlings with pickled peppers? — suggests that it’s much more than that.

How do we use our tools, and when do we change things up? Beginning with a strange sound from a refrigerator, this week on the Beauty Salon, Ian, Cheryl and Karen discuss the tools they have used throughout their lives, from early frightening encounters with industrial meat slicers to current loves of colored pens. In Decoding Rhode Island, Cheryl and Ian talk with URI Professor of Art Bob Dilworth about his shift from traditional painting to mixed-media composition.
