#review if Bluebird Bluebird by Attica Locke 👮 This is described as a thriller, but read more like a detective drama. The small-town setting really amps up the tension, with the main plot focusing on two deaths in the rural Texan town of Lark, a place where race relations leave much to be desired. Detective Darren Matthews is a Texas Ranger on probation who's managed to find his way into investigating the recent deaths of a black lawyer from Chicago and a local white woman. I loved the setting and descriptions of place, Geneva's restaurant had a character all of its own, and I appreciated the twists and turns in the plot. I enjoyed this book, however it definitely read like a debut novel (which it is) as sometimes it was hard to place characters in a scene, and the action was slow throughout. Exploring race and justice in America, it sounds powerful and compelling.
