Exercise Fic Recs 15
Oh god, I’ve made 15 of these.  Welp, better continue!
The Shadow demon series by I_go_by_Faith  (Batman is a literal cryptid, and is bffs with Superman)
Predation (Devastation) by Maximum_Quinn  (More bat shifter AU!)
Author’s Note by Trekkele  (Jason wrote fanfic and Bruce was subscriber.  Jason updates a fic after he died, and that’s how Bruce finds out he’s alive.)
bloodletting by TheResurrectionist  (starwars/superbat fusion)
borderline by TheResurrectionist (bat fam sudden hive mind)
My Own Desert Places by MemoryDragon  (a reread for me.  Ace Bruce Wayne)
I’ve reached a milestone at the coffeeshop I go to every Sunday.  They know my name!  I’ve finally become a Regular™.  My latte and croissant:

It’s funny.  The cardinal is the state bird of my home state of Ohio, but I see SO MANY in Kansas.  I have an app that’s pretty good at identifying bird calls, and 9 times out of 10, it’s a cardinal.
Tumblr media
Along the trails, there are some nice spots for you to sit and take in the view.  I just thought this scene was pretty.
Tumblr media
I have found a new favorite bird.  A blue-gray gnatcatcher!  The are so TINY and ADORABLE.  They also like to hop around and not stay still, lol.
Tumblr media
The tree swallows were out again!
Tumblr media
Another cardinal
Tumblr media
Lol, I just thought this picture of a cardinal and red-bellied woodpecker was funny.
Tumblr media
I ALSO SAW A NEW BIRD!!!  A rose-breasted grosbeak.
Tumblr media
My little white-throated sparrow.
Tumblr media
A brown-headed cow bird.
Tumblr media
I also thought this was a neat picture of a red-bellied woodpecker climbing around on the feeder.
Tumblr media
Some pretty flowers.
Tumblr media
I don’t know what this flower is, but it is SO COOL.
Tumblr media
I just liked the name of this one.
Tumblr media
This guy was super cool too!
Tumblr media
You know me, I gotta take at least one picture featuring running water.
Tumblr media
A neat bridge
Tumblr media
This flower was cool too!
Tumblr media
I also had five finches at my feeders today!  Three were house finches and two were goldfinches.
Tumblr media
A close up of the goldfinches.

Sleek bird.
Tumblr media
This blue-gray gnatcatcher (Polioptila caerulea) visited yesterday. Perhaps it was foraging for spiders among the crepe myrtles. Or maybe it was just curious about all of the birds around that area. Hmmm … I think I may have photographed one of these before and mistook it for a tufted titmouse. I'll have to review old photos.
"A tiny, long-tailed bird of broadleaf forests and scrublands, the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher makes itself known by its soft but insistent calls and its constant motion. It hops and sidles in dense outer foliage, foraging for insects and spiders. As it moves, this steely blue-gray bird conspicuously flicks its white-edged tail from side to side, scaring up insects and chasing after them. Pairs use spiderweb and lichens to build small, neat nests, which sit on top of branches and look like tree knots." - allaboutbirds.org

Sunday Birding 7/23/23
Many excellent birds this morning!  Even though I didn’t see as many at the pond (sob sob), the arboretum made up for it!
First bird to be seen was this handsome cardinal!  He was also the first bird I heard at the pond too:
Tumblr media
My funky lil’ guy was back!  So many good (and silly) pictures of a green heron:

I always make a stop home before I go to the arboretum, and was very pleased to find this goldfinch getting some breakfast at my feeder:
Tumblr media

Tumblr media
Another hummingbird!
Tumblr media
A tufted titmouse up in a tree:
Tumblr media
They also wanted to join in on the gossip:
Tumblr media

Tumblr media
I was so happy to get a picture of this little guy, a blue-gray gnatcatcher!  I was surprised they stayed still long enough for me to get this picture, lol:
Tumblr media
An eastern bluebird!  She was just chillin’ up in a tree, on the lookout for her next snack:
Tumblr media
Looking good up there king:
Tumblr media
An indigo bunting!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This dragonfly was polite enough to pose for me while I took their picture:
Tumblr media
There were also a pair of tree swallows flying around:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another eastern bluebird, male this time:
Tumblr media
She’s just living the life, in the shade, relaxing, with some tasty snacks:
Tumblr media

Tumblr media
It was fun watching him crawl around to get to the food:
Tumblr media
I just like this white-breasted nuthatch’s silly pose:
Tumblr media
They look more dramatic in this one:
Tumblr media
A titmouse, crawling down to get a treat:

There is something under here.
Tumblr media
Here is a little blue gray gnatcatcher (Polioptila caerulea) hunting prey under the grass. She's a female, I think, or maybe a nonbreeding male. Males have a distinct black eyebrow.
"The Blue-gray Gnatcatcher's grayish coloring and long tail, as well as the way it mixes snippets of other birds' repertoires into its own high, nasal songs, have earned it the nickname "Little Mockingbird."" - allabutbirds.org
