Infinite Blue - August 2024 Update

Hello! Just a little update this month, as we're still in a slow period of development. We've made great progress in the art department, it's mostly down to wrapping up writing and progressing with programming at this point. Here's where we're at with everything:

CGs: 1 left

Sprites: Complete

Backgrounds: Complete minus time of day/weather changes

GUI: Mostly complete. The demo GUI will be getting a little update to match the newer graphics

Writing: 3/6 routes done, remaining routes in final editing phase

Music: Working on track variants

Programming: Hard to quantify. We'll be adding an additional programmer this month to help

Voice acting: We were going to wait for the routes to be further along programming-wise, but for time's sake, we may begin recording sooner rather than later

When will release be?

I'm afraid to answer this at the moment! Whenever I estimate a time frame, it doesn't end up working out. For now, the best I can do is to keep everyone posted on progress updates until we get closer to actual release. Otherwise, I'd rather not get hopes up only to disappoint later.

But please know that nothing is going wrong with development. It's more that with such a long time frame, life gets in the way sometimes and the team has periods of burnout or needing to attend to other matters. It's been challenging to navigate as a first time game dev, though I have been learning a lot and have hopes to make the process more streamlined in the future. And I'm still so excited for Infinite Blue's release!! Thank you for your patience and support, it's meant everything to keep the game trucking along.

sometimes you sit back and realise just how deserving kevin day was of the best ext player title like

this man had the entire sport his life was built around shattered because he was the best at it. the only thing he lived for, they only thing he had left untainted by complications, snatched from him in a fit of jealousy by the man who grew up by his side, his own brother.

he got his dominant hand destroyed so brutally it was predicted he’d never be able to play again at all. they didn’t even expect him to be able to hold up a racquet with his right hand, much less play the sport as good as he used to.

this shit all before transferring to an uncoordinated team that does not live and breathe the sport and is not willing to push him to his best. they don’t listen to his advice and on court they’re as egoistic individually as they are together. they care as much about red cards as the ravens except that the ravens don’t care because they can actually afford red cards. an entirely different environment where everything is not catering to exy.

on top of that this man had to learn how to play full games. he had to unlearn the illegal violence he’s been playing with since he was a child and had to increase his stamina to play just as good legally for double the time.

this feat made even harder because of the fact that he barely had enough time to recover and get used to 24-hour days. his entire schedule upended and he got half the time to practice. he was entirely dependent on someone else to take him to court because he didn’t live underneath it. this someone was the last person to care about exy and would often deny kevin’s need to be at court practicing.

he had to get used to not having a partner he knew he could trust on court blindly because they were just so tuned to each other.

he had to forcibly let go of years of instilled trauma that led him to suppress his skill and pretend he’s second best. he had to face both on and off court the man who put him in that position.

all this while having enough issues that if he took a shot of the most dilute alcohol for each he’d be in a grave before even getting halfway.

yet he faced it. he faced it all and he fucking won.

he pushed and pushed and pushed and he fucking made it. he didn’t just persevere through his issues, he climbed them like a fucking mountain and didn’t even need to reach its peak to be the strongest. that too in less than two years like?????

he is the best player in the field and he deserves it so fucking much. i just need him to be happy plsplsplspls

Henry frowns. “But that print is one of a kind. Alex got it for me last… Wait. Alex.”

“Oh,” Pez says, with a similar note of realization. “Liam actually met up with Alex yesterday. Liam was wearing this when he returned.”

“No doubt, he'd borrowed it from Alex.”

“Who'd stolen it from you,” Pez concludes. “How'd you know it was yours?”

Henry smiles. “Didn't you look at the print? Beagles in bow-ties. Told you—it's one of a kind.”

Hi! I've been largely absent from tag games for a bit, but thanks to everyone who routinely adds me! I wasn't ignoring you, I promise -- I was finalizing my @aroyallybigbangrwrb fic, though, so today's snippet comes from chapter 4 of Meet Me on the Other Side, which will be posted on Friday sometime shortly after 12 AM.

Henry awakens to the dull patter of raindrops against canvas. Outside, he hears shuffling, and a moment later the tent flaps part and as Henry sits up in his bedroll, Alex ducks inside, two tin plates balanced in one hand and the handles of two steaming mugs in the other. His hair hangs in wet, black ringlets that stick to his forehead and his ears, and his jaw is freshly shaven. The better part of Alex himself is wet as well, and Henry realizes he’s completed his grooming and prepared their meal in the rain. He’s decidedly unsure of how to respond to this sort of treatment. Thankfully, Alex saves him from analyzing things too deeply by mumbling, “Mornin’,” as the tent flaps whisper shut behind him. “Good morning,” Henry returns quietly. He accepts a plate gratefully when Alex offers it to him. Alex hands him one of the tin cups as well, and Henry is surprised to see that unlike Alex’s cup, which is full of coffee so dark that the night would be made bright by comparison, his own cup contains only hot water. “F’r your tea,” Alex says gruffly, and something in Henry’s stomach warms as much as the water warms his hands through the molded tin. Alex turns towards his pack, but as Henry watches, the back of his neck reddens. After a moment, Henry shakes himself back to reality and reaches for his own rucksack. He retrieves the little parcel Shaan had sent for him and pulls out the silver infuser spoon first, pinching open the clasp and filling the cavity within with the aromatic black tea. Setting the parcel aside for a moment, Henry reaches for the cup of hot water and gently places the infuser within. The citrusy tang of bergamot begins to rise slowly from the cup as the tea brews, and he savors the comforting scent. “I knew you Brits were serious about your tea,” Alex drawls, “but d’you need me to leave the two of you alone?”
