Another Tog fanart that's special to me! 💛
The first is supposed to be Aelin and Aedion as children, "exercising" the blood oath ceremony. The second one resemble chapter 119 from Kingdom of Ash, where Aedion finally bonds himself to his Queen, through blood.
When I first read TOG, I was a little pissed by the fact that Aedion was the last to swear the oath (after Rowan, Fenrys, Lorcan and even Gavriel- males that Aelin knew for a more shorter time than Aedion), but at my reread, I realised why.
Aedion didn't need to prove his loyalty or devotament to Terrasen or Aelin ( which he already proved by protecting Terrasen indirectly, by becoming the White wolf, sacrificing himself for the other good), but his patience, where Aedion is kinda lacking 😂😂.
We can see it when Aelin rescue him and he instantly thinks about killing Dorian instead of finding a cure. When he wants to go to Terrasen immediately, instead of finishing the things they started in Adarlan. When he asks Aelin about the armies she promised. When he thrown Lysandra in the snow instead of listening to her...
The blood oath is the thing he desperately want, but receive only at the end, not as a punishment or as indifference, but as an achievement.
Also demonstrate that his loyalty didn't lied in his family relationship with Aelin or in a right he gained through birth, an royal obligation, BUT in the hope of a better world that Aelin promised to create. His loyalty lies in the love he has for Aelin as a person and his love for Terrasen in a place that all the people he loves calls home (Lysandra and Evangeline).

Currently on Chapter 59 of Heir of Fire & I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been crying since Celaena fell asleep in Rowan’s arms up in that tree😂🤣🥹😭🖤 just tooooooo much to say — Abraxos flying with Manon — Dorian & Sorscha — the kitty-cat friend🤣 — all of Aelin facing the Valg — she has short red hair now (?) & like the least of changes as she said, but also POWER MOVE — & just UGHAJABSNWLWN *keyboard smash head desk* … 9 chapters left, then on to Queen of Shadows😬😆

I just finished reading Sawbones serie by Melissa Lenhardt.
It is about a lady surgeon in Far West epoque.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sawbones
Wrongfully accused of murder, Dr. Catherine Bennett is destined to hang. . . unless she can disappear. With the untamed territory of Colorado as her most likely refuge, she packs her physician's kit and heads West. But even with a new life and name, a female doctor with a bounty on her head can hide for only so long.
Blood Oath
Laura Elliston and William Kindle are on the run-from the Army and from every miscreant in the West eager to claim the $500 bounty for Laura's capture as their own.
But the danger isn't just from those pursuing them.
Laura and Kindle each have demons of their own and a past that won't stay dead. Exhausted, scared, scarred, and surrounded by enemies, neither realizes the greatest danger is yet to come.
Badlands
In Blood Oath Laura's worst fears have been realized: Kindle has been taken into custody and she is once again on the run. The noose awaits her in New York, but Laura is realizing that there are some things worse than death. Finally running out of places to hide, it may be time for Dr. Catherine Bennett to face her past.
Even if I enjoyed this novel, there are few elements that made me upset:
1. I discovered this serie from the last book, Badlands, which is described been sold as “Outlander meets post-Civil War unrest in the conclusion to Melissa Lenhardt's fast-paced historical series.” As a fan of Diana Gabaldon's saga, I consumed both her numerous novels and 7 seasons of TV show, so I was intrigued by this description. Well, the only thing Sawbones saga has in common with Outlander is that they both have a woman surgeon as protagonist and both Claire and Catherine-Laura married their first patient in their new life. Claire and Catherine-Laura have a similar temperament, but I think Claire is more gentle, compassionate and 'motherly', while Chaterine-Laura is driven by ambition and desire to proof her worth to her absent father (deceased before the beginning of the first novel).
2. In Sawbones, the first novel, pride and ambition make Catherine, now under the false name of Laura, reckless. Even if, after her friends in New York staged her death, she agreed to pass as midwife or nurse, and Maureen, her devoted maid who followed her path away from the gallow warned her many times to not declare her profession as surgeon, Laura in the first occasion she got (helping a woman was was giving birth) introduced herself as 'Dr. Elliston'. Even after the caravan Catherine-Laura and Maureen were traveling with has been attacked by 'Indians', she would keep her act as 'Dr. Elliston', driving attention to her practice and at least two main characters understood her true identity. And this happens a lot of times through the novels.

Sawbones, Chapter 43
3. As only survivor Catherine, now Laura, became saved by the Army and excorted in their Fort. She became a sort of local celebrity due to her status as 'Indian attack' s survivor' and even more by saving the life of loyal chivalry Officer, Cpt. William Kindle, who happens to have briefly encountered Catherine during the war. Now it is important to understand how Laura is even more of a jinx than Brianna Randall Fraser (daughter of Jamie and Claire, adopted by Claire's husband)! Basically everyone who find him or herself connect with Laura is doomed to fall over a gruesome ending. As Roger MacKenzie, Brianna's husband, Cpt. Kindle would endure a lot of suffering and loss for love. Honestly, I would tie a line at some point, but Roger and Kindle are a fictional character and their creators have a distorted concept of true love.
4. Rape. Rape. Rape. Whore friends but not sex herself. Even if Laura left a lot of Catherine along her way, she is always a bit reckless and her behavior get the attention of bounty hunters and profiters. Laura, after marrying Kindle, seems to be more keen at left her past as surgeon behind and to agree to pass as midwife. In Blood Oath, Laura decided to turn down her pride and start training young orphan girls as midwifes and nurses, she even took Sophia, a smart 16 years old mulatto girl as a protegee, helping her to become a doctor too. In Badlands, Laura finally admitted how she used to belittle other woman and dismissed to offer of friendship of other women doctors, because she wanted succeed proving herself equal to men.

Badlands, Chapter 7
Tumblr media
Badlands, Chapter 16
5. Kindle and Laura aren't a well-suited pair, since Kindle manipulated her and lied a lot to Laura in order to bed her, and doesn't understand her vocation as doctor: Kindle think is a stuff she would left after marriage, argue and threatened to left Laura, because she doesn't want children or cannot have. Kindle is an hypocrite and a obnoxious, judgemental bastard. In Badlands it is revealed that Kindle cheated on her on the first occasion and then acted as HE was jealous of other men. However, the plot involving Kindle risking his life and being condamned for running away from his duty as soldier ended up in some months of detention and a dishonored discharge, which is very limiting, considering the accusation of murders in the previous books.
6. Melissa Lenhardt drive us through three books and the mystery about who murdered Laura's patient and why his wife decided to frame Laura for the crime is solved in less than 100 pages. OK, I know why Laura has been framed for murder: she is an unmarried woman, without any social connection or wealth, and tries to succeed in a world governed by men and their prejudice about gender. Laura is basically an outcast, but this is not an explanation about the difficulty to solve the main mystery of the novel serie! She was an unlucky escape goat to hide powerful people's crimes and her friend James choose career, riches and power over a dear friend. It was the most delusional and disappointing part of the book.

"Inside a cavern room, at the bottom of the volcano, stands an altar to Takhisis. What it may have been carved to represent, I could not tell, for it was so covered with green blood and black slime that it seemed a horrid growth springing from the rock. Around the altar were robed figures – dark clerics of Takhisis and magic-users wearing the Black Robes. (...)"

funny when, in inheritance, there’s a moment when saphira tries to help eragon by lending him her power, and he says she can’t help him because it’s “his mountain to climb”. she tries to argue but he replies with “besides, if i were flying, it would be on borrowed wings, and i would gain nothing by it other than the cheap thrill of an unearned victory”
i totally agree with the sentiment and i’d think it’s great of him to say so, if it wasn’t for the fact that that’s exactly what the blood oath celebration has done for him. i understand that, narratively speaking, the main reason for making eragon into an elf is because, otherwise, it would’ve been insanely hard for him to acquire the abilities necessary to defeat galbatorix, but i sitll think it’s a very cheap way of making him get the upper hand, or, if not that, a chance to win. i mean, in the end, paolini makes his own villain so impossible to defeat that he needs to fundamentally alter his main character in order to allow the story’s climax to take place.
and then the fact that having eragon say this now makes him into a bit of a hypocrite. like, he has such a problem with saphira helping him now, “because it just wouldn’t be an earned victory” but he didn’t seem to mind when the elves made him look like them and have their abilities, even though he obviously hadn’t worked to achieve them by himself in the first place. i’m the first one that finds the whole “eragon gets a few months of learning x and suddenly he’s really good at it” a bit annoying, but i’d rather have that than him being an elf for all intents and purposes.

Blood Oath Comic Series Review
In the comic book series "Blood Oath," Hazel Crenshaw's quiet life of farming is disrupted when she is thrust into a fierce battle against monstrous foes in a Prohibition-era war for control of the liquor trade
⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 3 out of 5. Sneha Jaiswal (Twitter | Instagram) Hazel Crenshaw is a shrewd, feisty young woman running her family farm, ensuring she and her sister lead comfortable lives and that their workers get paid adequately. It’s 1927, the peak of Prohibition (the U.S. Congress had banned the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcohol in 1920), and Hazel runs a sly side hustle storing…
