Some possible sources of inspiration for Meliora design

It is known that when creating Meliora, Tobias Forge was inspired by the movie "Metropolis" and the art deco style of the 1920-30s. Here I want to share my findings of some borrowed elements in the third era.

The Palace of the Soviets was a project to construct a political convention center in Moscow on the site of the demolished Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. The project was never realized. Zbigniew Bielak wrote in his blog: "Check out the rough concept sketches leading up to this apotheosis of Soviet esprit". Meliora is probably referring to the USSR as a failed utopia.

The building beneath the lustful megalomaniac resembles Boston Avenue United Methodist Church (1929).

This element is taken from the old RKO building (usually known as the General Electric Building) (1929-31). The theme of electricity is given a lot of attention in Meliora.

The lanterns in the hands are made in the style of the Helsinki Central Railway Station (1907) lamps. Papa Emeritus is compared to Lucifer the Light-bringer, and at the same time he is the bearer of the idea of enlightenment.

Another unrealized building, a concept by visionary artist Hugh Ferriss, can be seen in the City's urban landscape from the music video. Hugh Ferriss was an American architect and illustrator who created many images of futuristic New York in the 1920s, he's also the author of the book "The Metropolis of Tomorrow".

This building is the actual Odeon Cinema in Glasgow. It was built in 1934 and was originally owned by the American Paramount movie studio. A prime example of mid-1930s architectural modernism.

The cover of "From the Pinnacle to the Pit" is painted from Nick Gaetano's "Romantic Manifesto." It is a 2006 painting inspired by Ayn Rand's book "Atlas Shrugged".

hey there anonymous; good morning, you sent this to me last night when i was well in bed (sun had barely even set, even; time change makes sleeping at 8 feel even earlier than usual);

mostly ignoring this to blog a bit about the usual thing i always whine-about (maybe it:ll help someone 'relate' or feel 'less alone' but lord knows its just me spinning wheels cause i like writing): the flattening of my mood: like every-thing had just become this one singular wide featureless plain with all site in sight being just the same stretch without pit and without hill: the sort-of landscape that'd provoke NO PASSION and NO THOUGHT equally and just-so also smooth away any great pain and any great joy: which is exactly just the comfort i am tired of, as it:s like some crawling thing that keeps taking more and more, example: food now all tastes the same, too, taken under by that same wasteland plain barren; although i:d describe my mood as being fairly 'up' (there are still things i:d been getting keen about: writing isekai story, the new ABA in strive looks really cool, i have religious programming to write, there is new media to read and watch) it never seems to amount more than a small 'pop' that ends-up nearly always more disappointing than fulfilling or centering; it is like the spirit has begun evaporating out of me through these little fissures in the Make of my material that had let that esprit DRY, KILN, BAKE, ASH out and leave the innerworks of me (MARA!) as little more closer and closer to being some fine spotless beetle of mechanics, and operations, clicking with spring and circuit forward and forward to next task: cook, eat, clean, exercise; count in fours always; pray in mornings, too; it is the experience of life not as a person but as the mechanical, where life ceases to be felt as life and yet as mere experience of time (both four letter words, as it were; vision poor enough they:d be the same grey smudge on the screen; vision poor enough they:d be the same dead bug on windshield before the bugs themselves became rare); my mood has been up and i still have these black thoughts flowing out from Dieth and Daniela and centered around how inescapable and infinite Wasteland seems: the self is extricated out and becomes a paperdoll where (impersonal) you imagine it undergoing a hanging or a suffocating of all air, and imagine the 'ecstasy' of whether the viewer can undergo the felt feelings of the paperdoll as it goes to 100% material; the act of moving limbs to go through with the task, to resolve, to collect the instruments, to imagine the Afters (the people who knew), to imagine all the things unsaid and things yet wanted to do and done undone and the willingness to let self be robbed of 'fate' (?) where death claims its 'natural' (?) due;

very-much i:d just like to write and focus and be left fulfilled, but it:s all fairly boring; i:d like to play the new ABA and grind her in practice mode (i SHAN'T be spending money on games though) and just instead imagine how anxious sitting in a practice mode hitting buttons feels and can:t imagine undergoing that more than eight minutes at most (this is much how writing is; much how drawing is); there:s this alien quality being poured in-to me, may-be byproduct of adhering to Etiquette like the years of slowly embodying an ill philosophy has led me further ill and alien: it becomes harder and harder to find any reason to talk to another, to nurture friendships, to say Hey, to want to do anything with others as it all just becomes more stretch on the barrenland and buttons to hit and mechanical beetle limbs to undulate, undulate, driven just by fluid sacs or what-ever dumb organ drives beetles (for me it:s my yap organ).

all of this is to say: i wish i could be playing new ABA cause i like her design a lot but can:t imagine playing a fighting game ever being fun without having a friend to do it with, and nothing sounds more boring to me at the same time, but i:m tired of being bored, too. i want to be at a joyous tone 4! a joyous tone 4! so engender a joyous tone 4 in your own life, anonymous, cause if you will it surely it:ll happen.

About: What is this?

This is an askblog for the skills of Disco Elysium! It will be written in the style of the game itself. It will be a mixture of canon information and headcanon interpretation, with references to multiple routes and canons in the game itself along with semi-fic-ish elements to it.

Who are these characters?

These are the skills from Disco Elysium, the stats that determine Harry Du Bois’ abilities and thoughts. They are the personified manifestations of his capabilities that exist within his brain as voices. Here are my designs of them:

Limbic System and ARB:

Since they’re so broadly defined as both game mechanics and as characters, I’ll be using my own headcanons to represent them (so we’re gonna get a little silly with it.) I’ll give a brief rundown of the skills as they’ll be represented via their functions:

INTELLECT:

Logic: he/him. Ability to piece together clues and detect inconsistencies.

Encyclopedia: he/him. Pre-existing knowledge of the world of Elysium.

Rhetoric:they/he. Ability to argue against others and convince them.

Drama: he/she/they. Ability to lie and detect lies.

Conceptualization: any/all. Ability to discern deeper artistic meaning and subtext.

Viscalc: he/they. Ability to determine and inference things based off of visual clues.

PSYCHE

Volition: he/they. Moral fortitude, mental health, focus on work.

Empathy: they/them. Capacity to understand how others are feeling.

Inland Empire: they/them. Imagination, hunches, and being fascinated with the mysterious.

Authority: he/him. Ability to exert or impose command.

Esprit De Corps: any/all. Understanding police culture.

Suggestion: they/them. Ability to plant ideas and subtle subterfuge.

PHYSIQUE

Endurance: he/him, physical health and vitality.

Pain Threshold: she/they. Ability to seek out and put up with pain.

Physical Instrument: he/him. Ability to use the body as a tool.

Electro-Chemistry: he/they. Base instinct of seeking pleasure.

Half Light: she/he. Fight, flight, faun, or freeze response.

Shivers: she/her. Connection with the supra-natural elements of the city.

MOTORICS

Hand/Eye Coordination: he/him. Ability to throw, catch, and shoot.

Perception: she/her. Ability to pick up details that activate the senses.

Reaction Speed: she/they. Ability to think/act quickly.

Savoir Faire: he/they. Agility and grace, in both a physical and social sense.

Interfacing: he/him. The use of tools with finesse, like operating a second body.

Composure: they/them. Capability of staying focused and collected under pressure.

THE DEEP BRAIN

Ancient Reptilian Brain: he/him. Controls base animal instincts.

Limbic System: he/him. Controls emotional responses.

What can I ask/what can I expect to see?

You can ask the skills just about anything you’d want to know from them. Since there are 24 of those assholes living in Harry’s brain, they need a way to get attention and enrichment, so they made this blog. Ask them about what you’re curious about!

This blog will get about as risqué as the game does— potential mentions of drug use/abuse, sex and sexuality, violence, etc. As such, no minors here, please. Ship content probably will happen and you’re more than welcome to ask about it, just be cool.

That’s generally rule number one for this blog lmao is just be cool! If I don’t want to answer something then I just won’t.

You can expect to see posts written in the style of the game itself, with the skills answering. Sometimes it may be accompanied by art, but not always!

My GTA V Online - My 29th prize car: Pegassi Tempesta [Sept 16, 2022]

Hello! Welcome back to my GTA V Online! And today, I won my 29th time at the Lucky Wheel in Diamond Casino & Resort. 🚘😁☸️💎🎰

• So, apparently I was wrong. I thought the "Sprunk vs Ecola" wars was over. And strangely, the "Ecola" won the 2nd round after they lost over "Sprunk". Nonetheless, it is time to review my latest lucky wheel prize vehicle podium of this week.

BTW: 99 days to go before Christmas! Yay! 🧑‍🎄🗓️ Sorry I missed the 100th day countdown though... My bad.😅

• The prized car of the week is the Pegassi Tempesta 🚘 [CLICK ME!], it’s a Sports Car category that costs GTA$ 1,329,000 💵 from Legendary Motorsport. The Tempesta is primarily based on the Lamborghini Huracan [CLICK ME!] mixed with the Lotus Esprit Concept [CLICK ME!].

• So, the last Pegassi I've won at the lucky wheel was the Zorrusso, and it was recorded on Nov 21st, 2021. Yes, it is fun to drive without a hardtop; good for strolling on the sunset beach. (Yeah, I miss summer.) But, what about the Tempesta? Let's start with the design. It looks stunning! Even though the front was taken a cue from the Lotus Esprit concept, it is still a pretty damn-looking Huracan car. Not to mention the rear look. And the engine sound? Matches perfectly (like other vehicles that I've reviewed if not perfect for other vehicles). Performance-wise, on stock stats, I have no problems with acceleration, brake, handling & top speed. The latter, however, was pretty surprise me! It beat out two Pegassi cars, the Zentorno & the aforementioned Zorrusso during lap time. Unfortunately for its top speed, the Tempesta can't outpace other faster supercars. Regardless, the Tempesta is arguably the most contender for the super category. In terms of cosmetics, the Tempesta gives a respect thumbs up. However, there's no option for suspension & rear bumper, which is quite shameful. But hey, beggars can't be choosers, right?

• So overall, I give this Tempesta a thumbs up & worth it supercar to get! If you want to getting hands on with this cool Huracan look-a-like, then you better win it this week (from Sept 16th to Sept 21st, 2022) at the lucky wheel instead of spending it from the Legendary Motorsport. The Tempesta had checked all the boxes, with the only exception being the lack of top speed (during drag strip). But, as I said, I respect the stats for the Tempesta. It's just a damn good supercar.
