If your OC was a perfume, what would they smell like?

Main character edition. Here are some of my favorite ladies!

Vanessa Byrd (Purple Sunrise): A peaceful desert night, the calm before the storm. Dust and indigo haze, with sweet yucca and incense wafting on the breeze.

Jessie Hendricks (Stay Buried): Sullen black tea and well-worn leather from a scuffed-up pair of Docs, layered over a rebellious undercurrent of smoke.

Tiffany Palmer (Hartfall Mall): She'll try anything once, as long as it's pink: raspberry licorice and sugary gumdrops, paired with sweet creamy vanilla and punctuated with the bubblegum kick of Madonna's latest single.

Rosalie Romanet (House Divided): Immaculately tailored essence of violet, expensive and rare, with bitter almond and a spine of cold steel, closely guarding a fragrant tuberose heart.

Samantha Ware (Forgive Us Our Virtues): The Black Death incarnate: narcotic draughts of opium and myrrh, drunk deep until the darkness rushes in.

Emily Call (Wicker Hollow): A warm bright forest of sandalwood, cedar, rosewood, and yew, plus the fresh earthy smell of grass newly trod on in search of an adventure.

Sabrina Royce (Royce's Quarter): An array of expensive spices that can't quite erase the coppery tang of blood spilled on the red clay court.

Amaryllis de Vere (Love Lies Bleeding): Elegant white freesia blooms floating in an extravagant crystal basin of champagne.

Cass Bright (Bright): The scent of the ‘70s Sunset Strip scene: vetiver, whiskey, patchouli, and smoke, with a line of sage and lavender to take the edge off.

Lola Dumont (Sunshine Springs): A drip of spiced honey sliding tantalizingly down the stem of a rich red velvet rose, in the languid heat of a Floridian summer.

Rosemarie Desmond (Always a Rose): Coffee-stained papers covered in scribbles of half-finished poetry, aged leatherbound books, and dried rose petals scattered across an old wooden desk.

Colleen Desmond (Snake in the Moss): Creeping tendrils of Spanish moss dotted with sweet heady magnolia, and a bite of bitter tea leaves lying in wait.

Jackie Ormond (Between the Gravel and the Sky): The screech of tires tearing down a racetrack: crisp fiberglass and a jolt of gasoline slicing through the warmth of asphalt after a summer rain.

Miranda Norwood (Hibiscus Whiskey): A riotous burst of canna lilies among lush Caribbean greenery, warmed by a dollop of golden saffron sunshine and a splash of rum.

Lady Nightshade (Lady Nightshade): What else? Belladonna, hidden in a bouquet of roses, masked with a sprinkle of oudh, just waiting to fuck up your day.

Sophia (Carpe Noctem): Nag champa, white tea, and moonflower, serene as a cool clear night sky, dotted with the curious twinkle of snowdrops like stars.

What's your opinion of the new fallout show?

I liked it! If you’re looking for something that harmonises really well with West Coast/New Vegas games you’re going to be disappointed, but honestly I was expecting worse. Has a lot of the same problems as Bethesda Fallout games in that it would probably work better set earlier - it’s strictly working within post-apocalyptic whereas west coast/new vegas stuff progressed from post-apoc to post-post-apoc.

That being said I think it also manages to play to a lot of Bethesda Fallout’s strengths (the Vault investigations were by far the highlight of the show, and also played to the writers’ strengths) and cuts down on some of the other bullshit. The ghoul concept was odd and just another contradictory image of ghouls on the one hand, but I also liked that the show depicted ferals with more pathos and sympathy than just “more baddies to shoot”.

I liked the characters overall, wish we got more of Moldaver though. Feels like there are a lot of dangling threads there though they might be developed more in a Season 2. Same with Dane’s character.

I’m going to be honest, while I don’t think it meshes well thematically with West Coast Fallout and especially New Vegas, I feel like some New Vegas fans are going a bit too conspiratorial with “Bethesda is trying to retcon New Vegas, Bethesda personally hates New Vegas and deliberately setting out to undermine it” kinda rhetoric. I feel like there were too many New Vegas references, especially at the end there, for that to be true, and I think that jokes aside the Todd Howard Is Out To Ruin Everything I Love thing can kinda end up overshadowing legitimate critique of how the show works within its setting.

I’d love for him to share his experience with being a black creator and to share his perspective of art and creation, as it affects all of us; through inspiration. I hope the experience can give him much needed peace and joy while also benefiting his newest and proudest project 💕
