I headcannon that seawings have black blood which means they have copper based blood. Copper based blood Is more efficient in transfering oxygen when under cold or low oxygen conditions which would allow them to travel the ocean depths easier. Creatures who can breath on land and in water all thave frilly gills, and it makes sense why seawing would have frilly gills. This would make them able to be on land for far longer if they just had regular gills.

I wonder if black blood would taste any different from regular blood? Like with Crona, Ragnarok is in their blood, a whole ass sword was melted into that shit. It's gotta taste more metallic than regular blood, right?

Been a bit since I've done a Sunday Snippet, but this idea's been hanging around the back of my noggin for a while, so here we are haha

Wouldn't hurt to say (since it is Sunday, after all) that there's still a few weeks left for my Fanfic Raffle sign-ups, for anyone interested in that! For now, here's something that's a little science-y haha

His hand tightens the other latex glove before stretching his fingers, intent then moved on to the Petri dish he lifts up from the set-aside area and turns around slightly under the desk lamp. Sample still inactive.

Setting the dish back down carefully, he pulls out the collection of stored bags labelled "Sample: A" and removes the one currently under study, opening it up just enough to extract a small dropper's worth of control-group liquid. The dropper, almost completely full, appears a dark, rich red under the light – Higher iron content affects the color slightly – before the Petri dish then has its lid removed. Quickly, the dropper is emptied inside the dish, and the lid secured again, a sense of anticipation keeping his eyes glued to the inert contents inside even as he keeps the surrounding countertop tidy.

And then: the result.

The pitch-black congealed mass, "Sample: B," suddenly begins to animate. He feels his breath steady as the mass converts into a state of liquid, swallowing up the introduced sample with increasing speed and absorbing it into its own mass, until finally all that remains is the initial sample, its size now equal to that it has consumed. The black blood has completely assimilated the red blood into itself within under a minute.

That usual instinct that comes with his fascination picks at the back of his skull as he observes the black blood now aimlessly spread itself out along the bottom of the dish. Of course in his endless intrigue, another feeling he wasn't entirely unfamiliar with began crawling under his skin, whispering and coaxing for him to extract it as the black blood recollects into a droplet formation.

However, something quite curious snares his attention instead when he brings his fingers up to the side of the dish, the now active sample pooling towards him. His eyebrows furrow together, the dish turned to the side so that the black blood faces away, and yet as his fingertips linger at the opposite end, the blood pools itself right up to his hand once more.

Oh… how interesting…

He keeps his thumbs pressed gently down on the Petri dish lid as he lifts it up, balanced between his fingers while the very active sample practically bubbles restlessly inside, calling to his veins.

If this hypothesis correlates, then… It would make sense that the black blood is drawn to "madness," regardless of its host… How intriguing indeed.
