I have one serious thought before I subject you all to my dumb thoughts. In a second season I would have liked for The Cat King to have taken on a Queer Elder role for Edwin. I would have liked for him to see Edwin PROPERLY as a newly out/realised gay kid, and for him to take it upon himself to show Edwin their community, and all the places and people who will love him for him.
#dead boy detectives#dbda#edwin payne#the cat king#This continues to be my take on the 'TCK and Edwin do some adult activities'#Bit from the gameos#Mostly I want him to SEE Edwin for a minute#Not as the fascinating ghost in his town or potential bed partner#But as the baby gay who is completely new to EVERYTHING#And would probably like a guiding hand#Or even just a friend who can understand#I'm getting old and in the last year my brain has latched onto being the queer elder now and I love the feeling#Of being a support to the queer kids as they figure things out

Got another Cameo from George. This is what I asked:
Dear George, I hope you’re having a wonderful time in LA. We’re very excited about your new film and were wondering whether you were allowed to talk about it, e.g. what preparation you did, any details about costuming, make-up etc, whether you had to learn anything new, what the experience was like in general. Basically, we’d be delighted about any bit of information you’re happy to share. On an unrelated note, director Richard Speight recently revealed in a Cameo that there was an additional scene ep. 7 in the sequence of Edwin’s and Charles’s first meeting which was cut. Do you remember what it was? Thank you and safe travels.

Thoughts literally no one asked for but I want to share anyway: Why I'm still supporting Dead Boy Detectives
And some facts on his connection to a show I've fought for for the last several months
What is being made is as important to me as how something is made. And after I first watched Dead Boy Detectives and later learned what a positive experience it was for literally everyone involved, I knew I had to champion it.
Steve Yockey and Beth Schwartz, the showrunners, took extra care to make sure the set was a safe space for everyone who worked there. Crew members have mentioned on a Reddit thread that they mourned the cancellation not so much because of lost income, but because they wouldn't have the chance to return to a work environment that truly valued them, that respected them, and that made them love coming to work every day.
And Steve and Beth took care to make sure the writers were diverse.* This is important, because they pulled together a team of people from marginalized and diverse backgrounds to tell a story about characters who are also marginalized and from diverse backgrounds. Many of the creatives are members of the LGBTQIA community. They were strategic about casting, too. Only two characters of the main cast are white, and one of them is gay; everyone else is a POC. Niko's character was created from the ground up by Steve and her actress, Yuyu Kitamura.
Steve and Beth were intentional about their choices. I mentioned crew members above, but I want to clarify that writers and cast alike have commented, repeatedly, how safe and respected they felt on set.*
This is not the norm in Hollywood, and the choice to create in that way needs to be recognized.
And in this political climate? Queer media matters now more than ever.
As we sift through discourse regarding social responsibility and accountability when it comes to consuming media and art, the phrase, “don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater” comes to mind. Nuance matters. Details matter.
Of course he-who-shall-not-be-named needs to be held accountable. But the fact remains that he was only very loosely connected to Dead Boy Detectives. He wasn't associated with it at all until it moved to Netflix late in production and incorporated the two cameos from The Sandman. His writing credits total under 11 minutes of the 8 episode series (just those two scenes). He was never on set. He never met the cast in person. He had no creative input on the series, which he has stated multiple times. Additionally, the story isn't even based on his works; it's based on the comics by Toby Litt and Mark Buckingham. Lastly, it's worth noting he does not own the rights to the show. Steve Yockey owns the Dead Boy Detectives, and Warner Brothers has production rights.
His loose connections cannot be allowed to overshadow all the GOOD that this show did, both in it's making and in the story it tells. How art is made matters. And art that is created with kindness and respect for our fellow humans, that gives voices to marginalized people, that allows viewers who are vastly underrepresented in the media to finally see themselves represented on screen?
That's huge. That resonates with people. It's life changing and sometimes even life saving. It's a lantern in the dark, and it gives people hope.
And that matters. Quite a bit, actually. And it deserves to be championed.
It deserves to be saved. ------------------------- *Info regarding writers and set culture is largely gleaned from creators social media accounts, posts/public fan interaction, director interviews, and gameos/gameodens. For more nitty gritty on exactly what his involvement looks like in Dead Boy Detectives, this link has a ton of solid info:

Happy Catwin Day everyone! Let 11/20/24 forever be remembered as such.
I'm sharing some Catwin relevant tik toks, Gameos and Gameodens to commemorate the occasion. Under the cut because it got long.
"What's next for Edwin?" : ["Dating"]
"Date ideas [for Edwin] besides a walk?" "That would depend on the date in question"
"If he hadn't kept him there, would Edwin have been down for a smooch?" " :/ No, I don't think so. Not then. He was already fairly discombobulated with. . . not having a smooch. I think he would have combusted."
"What's next for the Cat King?" "I actually KNOW what would be in store for them. . . potentially. Moving forward. So, that is slightly determined by what I know."
Props George stole from set: including the Cat King bracelet
"This one was perhaps a little bit naughty"
Edwin's internal perception of each character besides Charles, including Cat King
"Cat King came as a shock to Edwin--an exciting shock, but a shock, nonetheless. He causes something to shift in Edwin that makes him feel very unsafe but that's fun to play, and as an audience, fun to watch."

The one that started it all! Catwin canon events in Season 2!!!

More s2 Cat King implications. The highlight for me is Jayden's face journey in the background:

@gameo-archive another one for the collection!
About Charles using mirrors as windows, the 'thing that is worse than a demon', and love for Jenn Lyon.
Transcript under the read more...
George: Hi Pip, it's George and Jayden here from the Dead Boy Detectives. It's lovely to hear from you, thank you so much for being a part of our little cameo week, or half week, we've absolutely loved it, getting to relive all things Dead Boy Detectives. Now, let's get into your request. You've said: "Jayden, when did Charles figure out mirrors could be used as windows?"
Jayden: Ooh well I always imagined that Edwin, obviously, Edwin has all these books of magic spells and I reckon from time to time Charles probably would have a little scroll through them himself, and I reckon that that was something he saw in one of those books and a spell that he really wanted to master as he obviously did want to go and check in on his mum. Um so yeah that is how I think he came to knowing how to do that. "George, what is the 'thing that is worse than a demon' Edwin was traded to in Hell?"
George: Great question. I probably could've had a more clear-cut answer when I filmed the scene a year and a half ago, but I imagine it was something, maybe like some evil of a non-physical form and I imagine it might have been some form of torture, so you know, like you see in, I can't remember which realm of Hell it is, but when the boys are running through the hotel, through Hell, and everyone's stuck, they're frozen... something of that ilk. It would have been a form of torture, like maybe in a room, kind of powered by a non-physical entity and I think that would have been a big struggle. Um you've said: "Please tell Jenn Lyon she is iconic. Esther is the best antagonist, so funny and scary." Listen, I tell Jenn, I speak to her a lot and I'm often telling her how much she is loved. So I will pass this on gladly, because it's true.
Jayden: And we agree.
George: We agree.
Jayden: Very, very much so. In episode 8, I was chained up to a kitchen cabinet, and in most cases that would've been awful, but the fact that it was Jenn Lyon aka Esther's cabinet, it made it a little bit easier. Listen, we love you Jenn, if you do ever watch this, but we also love you, Pip.
George: We love you, Pip.
Jayden: Thank you so much for sending in this request, you are such an angel, thank you for showing love and supporting our show. Sending you lots and lots of love.
George: Bye!

"My gameo from the always soo kind George Rexstrew! I wanted to share, BC its my clumsy thank you for my hero forever- Edwin.. but also to thank the Fandom. You have teach my over-educated butt so much and I love you all! ❤️🔥❤️🔥#SaveDeadBoyDetectives #WhatTheRestMeans"
What's the occasion? Gratitude. These stories matter. I don't think I'll ever be able to thank you enough for Edwin. He's broken down some barriers for me, both internal and relational. He's a proper hero to me for so many reasons. I am from an unusual world. Ancient and Medieval philosophy, theology, and medical ethics for a side job. I've actually written a bit about how Edwin and Charles exemplify Aristotle's qualities of perfect friendship. I've always believed that beauty could heal divisions, because it conveys truth. For now, I wanted to be sure you know I learned so much from you and the fandom, especially about what queer people face, which sadly confounds some in my ususal circles. Cheers.

Switching content a bit
Hi everyone, recently I've been thinking a lot on the content I wanna make. Streaming is a bit easier to figure out, I think if I were to become more consistent I should play more games. I have so many games I've bought that I just never played, and if I stream them then I won't feel pressured to record/edit them for YouTube.
As for my YouTube channel, I've been needing to come to terms with something: I’m experiencing a huge mental block. It's been hard for me to sit down and edit videos, and even record. I think it's been a combination between school, work, and being tired all the time. I find it a lot easier to record with friends because it isn't as challenging for me to make things interesting and I can have a lot more fun without focusing on how I sound. That's why Minecraft Beta Survival is on a hiatus right now. While I would love to do those videos, there are a lot of scheduling conflicts and I don't really have the friend group right now.
But, over the past few months I've discovered something. I've been watching a lot of video essays on stuff I'm really into, mostly games. I tend to go on a lot of tangents with things I'm hyperfixated on or really love. And, there's been this video series I've been wanting to make where I talk about random stuff in a storytime/video essay format. I've been getting more and more ideas for it since 2020 AND I JUST WANNA TALK ABOUT STUFF!! What I'm saying is, I think this is the push I need for my YouTube channel, and the form of content I'll enjoy making a lot more. It'll be more effort with the ideas I have in mind, but omg I'm so excited for it. This doesn't mean I'll completely abandon gaming videos tho! They'll just be less frequent compared to this new series.
TL;DR - After I release my next playthrough of one of my favorite games, I think I might step back from solo gaming and possibly let’s play videos as a whole for a while. Expect a change in content, and stay tuned :)

Los Blancos New Double 'A' Side Single / Sengl Ddwbl 'A' Newydd 'Chwaraewr Gorau’ (Yr Ail Dim) / ‘Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’ via Libertino
(SCROLL DOWN FOR ENGLISH)
Rydych chi'n gwybod y bydd hi'n haf bythgofiadwy, diddiwedd pan fydd sŵn digamsyniol Los Blancos yn llenwi'r awyr boeth ganol nos, gan gicio'i ffordd allan o'r speakers gyda'r un mesur o agwedd a swyn di-ben-draw. Mae’r band yn ôl gyda Sengl Ddwbl A ‘Chwaraewr Gorau (Yr Ail Dîm) / Kareem Abdul Jabbar’. Mae'r caneuon yn gipolwg o o drywydd albwm nesaf hir-ddisgwyliedig Los Blancos. “Ysgrifennais fersiwn fras o Kareem Abdul Jabbar yn ystod y cyfnod clo cyntaf, ar ôl cyfnod o wylio llwyth o bêl-fasged. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar yw'r prif sgoriwr pwyntiau yn yr NBA erioed ond mae hefyd yn actor, awdur ac yn eiriolwr cyfiawnder cymdeithasol llwyddiannus. Mae'r gân yn deyrnged iddo.
Rwyf bob amser wedi fy syfrdanu gan ba mor ostyngedig ydyw, yn enwedig pan ystyriwch ei gyflawniadau. Mae cyfeiriadau hefyd at ei “skyhook” ddigyfnewid a’i gameo yn y ffilm Airplane. “Ro’n i wedi bod yn gwrando lot ar Jefferson Airplane, Hendrix a Neil Young, a newydd ail-wylio ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ ac yn trio creu rhyw fath o naws California o’r 1970au (dwi ddim yn siŵr os daw hynny drwodd, ond rwy'n hoffi'r canlyniad serch hynny)” Dewi Jones, Llais, Bas "Ysgrifennwyd Chwaraewr Gorau (Yr Ail Dim)' cyn y clo ac mae’n cymryd dylanwad gan artistiaid fel Stephen Malkmus a Twin Peaks - artistiaid sydd wedi bod yn ffefryn i'r band ers y cychwyn.
Dechreuodd fel demo garw ac adeiladwyd arno yn ystod sesiynau recordio dros y clo. Mae'r gân yn bortread o rywun sy'n slacker/bron yn ddyn. Roeddwn i hefyd eisiau cynnwys rhai cyfeiriadau pêl-droed yn y gân, Mae’n cynnwys cyfeiriad at Nick Cusack, cyn-chwaraewr tîm pêl-droed Abertawe, a oedd yn dipyn o gleisiwr pan oedd yr Elyrch yn yr adrannau isaf.” - Gwyn Rosser, Llais, Gitâr
(ENGLISH VERSION)
You know it’s going to be an unforgettable, endless summer when the unmistakable sound of Los Blancos fills the hot mid-evening air, kicking it’s way out of the speakers with equal amount of attitude and boundless charm. The band are back with a Double A side Single ‘Chwaraewr Gorau (Yr Ail Dîm) / Kareem Abdul Jabbar’. These songs are tantalising glimpse of where the next album will find Los Blancos. “I wrote a rough version of Kareem Abdul Jabbar during the first lockdown, after a phase of watching loads of basketball. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the all time leading points scorer in the NBA but is also a successful actor, author and social justice advocate. The song is a tribute to him.
I'm always blown away with how humble he is, especially when you consider his accomplishments. There’s references to his unstoppable “skyhook” and his cameo in the film Airplane. "I had been listening a lot to Jefferson Airplane, Hendrix and Neil Young, and had just re-watched 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' and was trying to create a kind of 1970’s California vibe (I’m not sure if that comes through, but i liked the result nonetheless)” Dewi Jones, Vocals, Bass “Chwaraewr Gorau (Yr Ail Dim) was written before lockdown and takes influence from artists such as Stephen Malkmus and Twin Peaks. Both have been a favourite for the band since we began.
It started out as a rough Demo and it was built on during recording sessions over lockdown. The song is a portrayal of someone who's a slacker/nearly man, who can't quite catch a break. I also wanted to include some football references in the song, It includes a reference to Nick Cusack, a former Swansea City player, who was a bit of a bruiser when the Swans were in the lower divisions.” - Gwyn Rosser, Vocals, Guitar
Lyric Translations / Cyfieithiad Geiriau
Chwaraewr Gorau (Yr Ail Dim)
He sat down, it was a pleasure to have his company, His mind so cunnig, he was the best player in the second team, But he pulled out, before it too cold, Well thats it, remember to chew before you spit Yee come on, no need to fall, if you have something to say about the lad Talking rubbish, thats all he could master, With plenty of ability, its an easy thing to validate, He had itchy feet, like a Cuzak 50/50, Like combing without hair, its an easy thing to over interpret. Kareem Abdul Jabbar A man so tall, and yet so mobile Controlling the court with magic johnson He leaps so easily And the ball flies through the net Kareeeeem abdul jabbar Every word and every letter is poetry And he can fly a plane he leaps so easily And the balls flies through the net Kareeem abdul jabbar What you gonna do when he hits you with a skyhook? Theres nothing you can do, he just hits you and he wont look back

"As promised, my second gameo from George!
This one was about Edwin’s clothes, and if he’d ever change them or if there were any clothes George would want Edwin to try. Which George says Edwin and Charles swapping clothes would be fun. And I agree!"
Starts with a Scottish accent, which George seems to be dipping into more and more as the week progresses, and a lot of popping noises as he thinks. :)
I wanted to ask about Edwin and changing clothes. He changed his clothes a bit in one episode but do you think there are other moments when Edwin might change his clothes? Do you think Edwin would try new outfits now that he's figuring himself out more? And what kind of clothes would you like to see Edwin try?

I've read that you have a passion for languages. What inspired you to learn more than one, and why those?

"this is a bit personal i guess? but if u are like me and don’t really know what you’re doing w ur life atm, then this is a message for u from george 🥺🤍 he’s so sweet!!!!

Oooh costume and prop details, nice!
@gameo-archive, fresh batch ahoy!
Transcript under the read more...
Anke! It's so nice to hear from you. It's George here, as I'm sure you know, from Dead Boy Detectives. Thank you so much for requesting a cameo. It's such a pleasure to see your name pop up once again.
I'm joined here by my trusted doglet, Raffy-roo, who is... actually, it's probably time for his food soon. I should check the time...
Thank you for writing in! Let's get straight into it. So, you've said you have "a couple of questions concerning props and costuming." Love, already love. "When Edwin dresses up in episode six, did you have any say in what he was wearing? Also, does he wear brown boots, instead of his usual black ones?" Yes! He does wear brown boots in episode six.
Did I "have any say in what he was wearing" um... I've actually just, funnily enough, spoken about this. The colour green was very important to me, um... and I shared that with Kelli [Dunsmore], our costume designer, and she very, very, you know, kindly... kindly's the wrong word, she had no obligation to even include it, you know, it's her vision, I should really just stay in my lane, but she found this gorgeous um green, I think it was like a merino wool, jumper and um she found green laces for the boots. I don't think they... I don't think you're able to see them in the show but that's... those small touches. You know, the devil really is in the detail and um that was, that was really, really cool.
Um, I'm tryna think if I tried on any others. I... I was... there was a chance I was going to wear a navy pinstripe suit as the hero costume, instead of the grey, but they didn't have enough copies at the time so we had to go with the grey. But I think the grey's best. Um... um, yeah.
"What motif does the Payne crest in his notebook show, and what inspired it?" Gosh, okay. I think there's a gryphon, or a lion... it's basically... I really thought it was important, or it felt accurate to me, that Edwin would have some kind of family sigil, you know. I imagined he'd have like a signet ring that he'd keep in the top drawer of his desk at the office. But he wouldn't wear the signet ring, because that would be... there's too many feelings about his family.
But there was something really interesting to me about him having his... the family crest, or the family sigil, embossed on the front of his notebook, and the idea that it would sit here, sit close to his heart, feels like an emotionally repressed boy's way of feeling, in some way, very sort of distantly connected to his family, and his parents. And I just, I thought there was something interesting there. It just... I pitched it... I was kind of a bit naughty, I actually pitched it straight to the head of props, Terry Weaver, and then Steve [Yockey] messaged like 'okay, hold on.' So I had to make a pitch. But they... they honoured it, so that was really cool. And again, like, Steve and Beth [Schwartz] and the team... everyone was so collaborative and that was so cool. That was so, so cool. Um.
"Who came up with the idea of the ironing board as a makeshift desk in episode two?" That probably would've been Tony [Wohlgemuth], our set designer. Or James [Willcock], our head of art/deco. It would've been... one of the two. But I agree, I think it's so cool, so genius. I love that opening shot in episode three where you see the ironing board. But this is the thing, it's like... the fun thing as an actor is we had no idea about any of that. We just walk onto set to rehearse and that's the first time we see it. And then we do a quick rehearsal, they set up, and then [clicks fingers] we start shooting. So it's so exciting for us, as the actors, when we walk on and see all this stuff. Sorry, I'm rambling. "Who picked the items that were put on it?" That would've been the art or set design departments.
"Finally, something unrelated to the show. I hope you received the drawing of Jenny's [whispers] wedding for Bri [Cuoco]. [Normal volume] According to the Royal Mail, it and some prints arrived at your agent's office about a week ago." Um, I actually chased this up. I have chased this up, and it's in transit to me, at my house. Rest assured, I will get it to Bri [whispers] for her wedding. [Normal volume] And I will put 'from'... I will tell her it's 'from all the Dead Boy fans', if that's the right thing to do. I mean, I'm sure it is. She's gonna absolutely love it, she's gonna be very moved by it. Um, I'll try and find a frame to put it in, as well, cause I think that would be really nice. Cause I know that will really mean a lot to her.
Okay, Anke, lots of love. Have a lovely week, look after yourself, and happy holidays. Bye!
Treated myself to another cameo, in which I enquire after Edwin’s dressed-up outfit, particularly the brown boots that are so difficult to see in the show – apparently, they have green laces to go with the green jumper (the attention to detail truly is amazing), the Payne crest on his notebook, and the ironing board as a makeshift desk. Also has some sleepy Raffy in the background.

I had to pause this and let out a brief wail when he revealed Christian Tucci wrote an episode for season two that focused on Edwin. I want it. But it doesn't exist. Grieving etc.
Transcript under the read more @gameo-archive!
Hello Anke. [In a wry tone] Do I recognise that name.
I hope you're doing well and that you're having a lovely week. Thank you so much for requesting a cameo. Let's get into it, coz I see a fair amount of text here.
So, you've said: "Dear George, I hope you're having a wonderful time in LA." Thank you. "We're very excited about your new film, and were wondering if you were able to talk about it. For example, what preparation you did, any details about costuming, make-up, whether you had to learn anything new, what the experience was like in general. Basically, we'd be delighted about any bit of information you're happy to share."
Let's start with that. Well... so, I just shot this short film, Appearances, that was written and directed by Christian Tucci, who was a writer's assistant on episode 4 of Dead Boy Detectives season 1, and who actually wrote one of the episodes, and wrote Edwin's main episode, in season 2. Wonderful, wonderful Christian. And he's written this short film in which I play a drag queen called Barbara Lasagna.
What can I give away? I can't give everything away. Okay, what preparation did I do? Well, she's a magician, so I had to learn a couple of magic tricks. And... yeah.
Any details about costuming and make-up? [Makes conflicted noises] It's great. Like, the costume is so great. And we had a drag consultant, who I don't know if I can give away yet, but they were absolutely wonderful.
Whether I had to learn anything new... how to do magic. Um yeah, tryna think if there's anything else. It was really, really good fun. It was a lovely, lovely crew, lovely cast. And it's in the can now, so, yeah, it's exciting. And it was fun to, you know, step into the shoes of a new character.
"On an unrelated note, director Richard Speight recently revealed in a cameo that there was an additional scene in episode 7 in the sequence with Edwin and Charles' first meeting which was cut. Do you remember what it was?" [Makes thinking noises] From memory... gosh, let me think... coz we shot that sequence so fast. I think there was a bit more... you know there's the bit where Charles goes "do you miss kissing?" and Edwin goes [shakes head and hums a negative] there was more dialogue there. Edwin made a comment about how, something like, 'I came from a family that never showed any physical affection at all'. But I suppose that must've, you know... we're always tryna save time, and take out stuff that... the words that might be exposition or just aren't needed, so, that.
And there was another sequence, actually, there was another sequence because I remember one of the cuts [claps hands]. It's Edwin rifling through a box of comic books. And I, coz I remember I put the comic book at the top called Harry's Hightop Adventures, which was the comic book I was holding in Edwin's flashback in episode 1. So I remember putting that, and the camera was starting the shot on that comic book, coz I thought that would be a fun bit of continuity. And Edwin's just kind of like rifling through these ancient boxes of comic books and tryna pick one. And, like, he's talking about detective stories and why he loves them. And then it cuts to him reading the excerpt. But that was cut from the sequence, because again I suppose, I suppose it wasn't necessary. So yeah, from memory, that's it.
Thank you for your lovely questions and um... [clicks fingers] speak to you soon. Bye.
