Have you ever heard the sounds that herons make when spooked or calling to other herons? Just imagine going for an early morning walk in the woods, little birds are chirping, wind is softly rustling in the trees, everything is peaceful and quiet...and then you hear this. It's much louder IRL, by the way.

Maybe it's common knowledge, idk, but I'd only seen maybe one or two herons in my life until I moved here. Now I see them every day, and you never get used to their beautiful singing voice.

As a girl who was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and has been to Skate-O-Mania lots of times, I feel obligated to give my take on the lighting used in ST4.

At this point, everyone is more than familiar with this absolutely bizarre choice of lighting, character arrangement, and framing. All very symbolic… Yellow for Will, blue for Mike. Mike is preoccupied with Will and vice versa.

But if there was any doubt that this lighting was intentional, I’d like to inform y’all that the lighting at Skate-O-Mania is in fact NOT blue and yellow. It’s also not arranged the same as in the show. Proof? Bet.

Furthermore, the lighting on the walls is an alternating pattern of yellow, pink, and blue in ST4. Yellow for Will, pink for El, and blue for Mike. And this lighting isn’t just symbolic of our characters—it might also imply that El is smack in the middle of Byler’s relationship/drama. Take a look:

I think it’s absolutely bonkers that people don’t talk about this detail more. But once again, the question to be asked is what makes this analysis so wild, yet certain? Oh yeah, the ACTUAL lighting at the roller rink:

The cherry on top?

Let’s do a little compare and contrast.

Different names? Yep.

Different placement? Interesting…

Yellow, pink, and blue lights added in above the sign? OUTRAGEOUS.

Moral of the story? You aren’t delusional for believing in cinematography. These choices are all incredibly real, nuanced, and significant.

About Stella

Been thinking about her character every now and then. This post was initially 100% about how her behavior left me thinking she was a spoiled brat for most of her life. But it evolved into something else. Sorry. I do still think she's a spoiled brat, though.

In Western Energy, Striker returns and successfully kidnaps Stolas. It isn't a surprise to us, as we remember Stella hired him previously in the Harvest Moon Festival.

This is a surprise to Andrealphus, however.

What gets me is that Andrealphus coddles Stella for a portion of their conversation. He also tries leading her to make a conclusion by herself without directly telling her what to think.

He gently brings his sister to the information that's most important: that the death of her husband wouldn't necessarily leave her in a good position, just Octavia.

It's only when Stella can't seem to connect the dots that Andrealphus has a little outburst of irritation (and sibling energy, like with the "you stupid cow" line).

After that, Andrealphus goes right back to his previous tone. He once again tries to bring Stella to the point without saying it directly. And when he eventually does get around to it, he's only making it as a suggestion.

Something about the way Stella is sitting, the way Andrealphus circles behind her, and the way he is still trying to convince her through suggestions instead of beinf direct... I have a feeling Stella has had this happen to her most of her life.

As much as I don't want to "go to bat" for Stella right before I go to sleep, I do get the feeling that she's been in this type of situation before. I feel like others, even if it's just her brother, have manipulated her into doing things that they want her to do.

I really think the rest of the Goetia will have a lot of subtlety in their social circles, and that social cues could be complex to navigate. Stella is direct with both her language and her feelings. I'm curious if she's an outlier due to that. And I'm wondering if she's been kept in this mentality on purpose (again, by her brother and/or other Goetia).

I do still think she's a spoiled brat. Her behavior is immature and crude, even before Stolas cheated on her. But I wonder if the reveal of her backstory (which we are supposed to get eventually) would shed some light as to why she is this way.

I finally got a clear picture of this bird so I can finally say this with proof lol But the Dreamer Bird might actually be Knight of Dawn (or just his magic).

The glow of the bird is very similar to the glow of his sword. At first I doubted this (when I still didnt have a clear pic) bcs the Dreamer Bird sometimes looks like its glowing auroral but its really blue and white just like Knight of Dawn's sword😭✨

GUYS HE LIVED.... KNIGHT OF DAWN MY BEAUTIFUL BIRD....😭😭💖💖 ohhh interpreting this as someone so gentle and tiny inside coerced to be tough and merciless😭 his soul is literally just a little bird yet he had to be caged by that nation,,, im crashingfFFFjkdfkd😭😭

AND IT PERSISTING TO FOLLOW SILVER TOO and it always points him to the "real" path/person as if his soul doesn't want him to follow needless orders like he did and follow what is right instead,,,, 😭

Sweater Weather

Human Jo’an was weird.

I couldn’t determine whether it was human weird or just Human Jo’an weird. She was rushing around, tripping over her own feet, and having more injuries than normal.

“Human Jo’an, what is that in your hand?” I asked. The human did that thing where they freeze like a little ickchay. I couldn’t help that my wings bristled in amusement.

She looked over her shoulder, short hair covering of of her eyes as her arms shielded something behind her. My “feet” clicked against the floor of our spaceship, my wings folding in on each other. “Really?” She nodded, her lips pursing to the side to try and make an innocent expression.

It only made her look more guilty.

“Human Jo’an, I have known you since I hatched out of my egg. We have been together through a lot. I can tell when you are hiding something.” For good measure, I opened up my wings. A tactic usually for making predators intimidated, but Human Jo’an always said it made me look, and I quote, “devious”.

“Arth.” My name that Human Jo’an gave me since she could not pronounce my real name. “Would I ever lie to you? Or-“ I cut her off. “That time on the Planet Nerthimplf, you said you couldn’t speak the language of the predators there, yet you are now hailed as their surrogate queen.

“I just mimicked their sounds. The translator didn’t pick up their language correctly. So, technically, I did not lie to you.” Human Jo’an straightened up, keeping the item behind her back. Though from this angle, I could see cloth.

“My point is I would never lie to you in a way that would put you in danger. This behind my back? It’s nothing.” She tried to shrug her shoulders to show that it was in fact nothing, but from the way I could hear her heart speed up was different. My head cocked to the side, wings spreading more in amusement.

“If it is not a big issue, why can’t you show me?” Human Jo’an coughed, eyes looking to the side. “Human Jo’an.” She sighed, and then rolled her eyes, and then groaned. Her face changed into many different emotions, all ones I have seen before. Human Jo’an was embarrassed.

My wings closed in on themselves, the feathers puffing up in what Human Jo’an described as wing laughter. I felt like laughing. “I will not judge you on what you have. I am not that kind of species.” Human Jo’an nodded and then brought her hands to the front.

My foot tapped against the floor, wings flapping in uncontrollably excitement. It was what the humans called a sweater, however this one was a little ragged and had tiny holes in them. The words were in a messy text of my homeland language translating to “Yeah I survived a predator, so what?” I assume it was to reference many of our adventures where I had almost died to a predator.

Human Jo’an observed my expression, a smile making its way onto her face as I expressed with my body language rather than my words. I was elated and so was Human Jo’an.

I was now 13 earth years old, and received my first sweater crafted by the hands of my caretaker. I was elated.
