Another great round up art post: thanks @marlowe-zara for sharing your fav Zulli pieces!
You still have a few more hours to vote on this match up’s poll: who drew the better Daniel!Dream??
Round One/2, Poll
Michael Zulli, penciller issue #72
VS.
Bill Sienkiewicz, artist Endless Nights: Delirium—Going Inside
Michael Zulli and Bill Sienkiewicz are two of the three original artists to give Daniel!Dream a face (the third one is Jon J. Muth).
If you’d like to refresh your memory on the issues both have illustrated:
Michael Zulli: The Doll’s House #13, World’s End #53, The Wake #70-73
Bill Sienkiewicz: Endless Nights: Delirium—Going Inside
And remember, you are voting for your favourite version of Dream, not the particular storyline.
Who is your favourite and why? Let us know in the comments/reblogs. Share your thoughts about their art, your favourite panels from their issues, or even other art they created and help us turn this into an artist appreciation post.
Here’s the poll to vote for your favourite if you want to see them again (you can find the whole bracket and some additional info here, and feel free to check out previous matches via the tag #sandman march mania):
Event organisers: @writing-for-life and @tickldpnk8 (who also designed the logo)

Hi! I kept searching for an older ask where you talked about how your style is informed by American comics, can you talk a lil' bit more about that, if it's okay? :>
oh it's ok to me! when i were in high school and still trying to find my own style, i were (am?) a fan of both DC and Marvel comics. i read a lot. and im talking thousands worth of issues from a varying cast of characters.
the shadow block that you can see still a big part of my style? many ppl think it's from Hades game art style, but it's not. it's from me studying from superheroes comic artists like Jorge Jimenez, Mark Buckingham, etc... and i adore the shape language and symbolism seen in Bill Sienkiewicz & Dave McKean work.
but at the same time... im really into manga and anime too and my style had already been that way for quite a while now. everything i learn from the American comics i read, i implement it into my work but still keep close to my original style direction (? god does that even make sense).
that's why my art is in a really weird limbo between Eastern and Western stylization haha. and why i consider American comics a big part of my art journey.
actually during my time drawing for spiderverse fandom, i follow all the concept artists working for the movie and learn a lot from them as well (i also speedrun through the entirety of Marvel's Miles Morales catalogue. literally read every single title and crossover events with Miles in it in 2 months. good to know my hyperfixation to comic is just as strong even now)
#and why fromsoft is like a perfect fandom for me to draw fanart for cuz i think their style is a mix like that too#my boss all the time: your style is not too Japanese anime but it's not complete Korean webtoon it's not US comic either#but somehow it's all of those at once. so weird. me:.... thanks?? 😭#ask#reply
