so I had a Big Brain Moment...

had this been done? I don't think it has

there's so much more I couldn't fit. so much more. feel free to expand on this (or make it look better)

other things:

since avatar is based off of Asian culture technically zuko also helped save China

all could be seen as an lgbt allegory

mulan and zuko both fighting for their honor (why didn't I think of that sooner, it's so obvious!)

atla had the kyoshi warriors and mulan fought with a fan

atla and mulan both had a strong woman having men to do drag

all have fairly recognizable voices

all at some point had talking animals (mushu, aang's sleep deprivation hallucinations scene)

zuko and mulan both had pivotal hair cutting scenes

all of them being physically different than others in some way (po being the only panda at first and being made fun of for being fat, mulan being a woman warrior, zuko and his scar) (this along with other things fits into the lgbt allegory idea)

badass old men (iroh and bumi, oogway and shifu, the emperor)

po and mulan both meet flower symbolism (the peach tree vs the cherry blossom tree)

atla and kung-fu panda both have turtles/tortoises as wise figures

mulan and zuko both wear badass clothes

all underdogs who eventually earn the respect of pretty much everyone in their stories

zuko and po both being the comic relief at some point

zuko and po both joining an already well-established team and feeling left out at first (the gaang, the furious five)

shifu and iroh both essentially losing a son but in wildly different ways

lotus symbolism (po's birth name being little lotus, iroh's white lotus group, again the flower blooming quote for mulan)

mulan and po being bowed to by someone higher up than them (the emperor, shifu)

hi! your face studies from April 4th for the Gaang seemed really influenced by Chip Trillino’s art, and I was wondering if you might want to credit them on the post or a reblog?

I DO love Chip's beautiful art, it's genuinely an honour to be compared!! but I promise I've never directly referenced her designs (though it wouldn't surprise me that mine have some similarities since I've spent time swooning over hers 💕), or anyone else's interpretations for that matter.

I don't know if it would be fair to credit just one source of inspiration, when in reality I'm surrounding myself with so many incredible creators that serve to stir the brain soup and fuel me to make art of my own. I certainly never set out to copy anyone, and rest assured I would credit if I ever posted any directly referenced studies.

I will happily share a non-exhaustive list of a few ATLA artists who regularly floor me with their interpretations! @chiptrillino-art you've mentioned, @sevrinve, @aakiwa, @soncee, @beelze0-0, @fioleespring, @fanfic-gremlin-ft-trauma, @bleekay, @petricorah, @ash-and-starlight, @comradekatara, @dickpuncherdraws, but there are lots of others too, there's a bit of an ATLA renaissance going on atm!

And that's not even mentioning fic writers, whose brilliant ideas have also seeped into my subconscious. The real-world-culture perspectives are incredible. I've read so many now...

so I can't include this in my "zuko laid an egg" fic but Ozai wouldn't actually try to do anything to the egg/baby if he knew about it. Because he is smart and has self-preservation instincts.

Human Zuko may not want to fight his father but Dragon Zuko will 100% try to murder him if he ever thought about touching the egg. And even if Ozai wins he would not be walking away without a few missing limbs.

Special Feature On This Book Only > Words of the producer himself The Stories Behind the Summon Monsters We present now some worldbuilding Mr. Hiroyuki Takahashi has shared for this book only!! ____ Dao -The Wind Genie- A "Djinn spirit" from within the earth. Has an unusually aggressive temper, doesn't obey others, and usually doesn't appear to anyone. Dao only agrees to show up with the summoning magic used by Sorcerers, to fight their opponents. As an aside, there's a rumor that goes around saying Dao is a cousin of the Genie of the Lamp. Dao is a character of great power, with attacks of the Wind element.

The game only has four magic elements, and Dao indeed counts as an wind spell just like Hellblast. The word for the element is more like "vacuum", but I felt that's not as intuitive and other guides do say wind. Also, because of this Dao does get referred to as a wind spirit sometimes, though the manual says earth spirit instead.

Atlas -Giant of the Firmament- Once upon a time, there was a race of giants that fought against the gods. Atlas is one of their strong warriors who once fought bravely in that war. However, as punishment for that, he was sentenced to hold and support the skies for all eternity. Only when a Sorcerer casts their summoning magic do the gods overlook that punishment, and Atlas unleashes the power of his unfathomable frustration built up after all this time, upon the enemies. This power is of the lightning element and never misses its target, capturing it fast with fists charged with electricity, and dealing unbelievable amounts of damage.

This is largely just lifted from greek mythology.

Also, the Atlas spell is not actually lightning-type in game, something this book itself acknowledges in the spell data section. The animation does have spark effects around Atlas' fists, so it might have been the intention at some point indeed. Supporting this is the fact that, were it like that, the strength of sorcerer spells would follow the same order as regular offensive spells (wind -> fire -> ice -> lightning).

Neptun -Quiet Sea King- Neptun lives at the bottom of the ocean, uninvolved in any conflicts. Yet as soon as he senses a summoning spell, he appears in an instant to the summoner, bringing down a heavy downpour of acid rain upon the enemies. Why does Neptun answers so promptly to the summoning magic? That is a pact he has made with the gods. "I shall lend this enormous power to holy adventurers", that is the duty he accepted. His attacks are of the water element, and thus he is a reassuring ally against enemies that use fire. Apollo -King of the Sun- Apollo, supposed to have disappeared into the sun, is brought back once more with summoning magic. While it is believed not even the gods have seen his true form, his legendary gallant figure appears before the enemies through the Sorcerer's spell. And unleashes infinite power gathered from the sun upon them! But there is no one in this world who can tell if it's really him or a mere illusion. His attacks are of the fire element, and seem to hide the most astounding ability out of all summon monsters.

I have no clue what the last line is referring to, I have never heard of Apollo having any extra use compared to the other spells. With that said, the four are listed here in a different order, with Apollo as the last, so perhaps he was meant to be strongest at some point.

This also has little relation with greek god Apollo as far as I know. The idea of someone missing after heading to the sun reminds me more of Icarus, actually.
