#Big Bad Bazz Brigade

The reunion of Big Bad Bazz Brigade (and Sidon) I wrote a few words about how each of them works in the group in this particular story. From Bazz's perspective though, so who's to say how truthful those observations are. Typed transcript of my scribbles under the cut:

Captain Bazz's very annoying friend group, as explained by Bazz. So no objectivity at all. Bazz: One sane man (or so he'd like to bielieve) Full of sufferig.

Rivan: Too pretty for his own good. Firmly holds the record of "most bad decisions taken in a lifetime". Direct cause of roughly 80% of Bazz's problems. No concept of personal space. The only truly good person at this table.

Gaddison: Firm believer in "violence is always the answer". Annoyingly observant but refusing to use this power for good. Stupidly strong. Stupidly gay. Sadly, -not- stupid.

Link: Chaos incarnate, no perception of long time consequences of his actions. Weirdly, the best person to turn to for some hones heart-to-heart. Both a teenager and a 120yo at the same time, with all the emotional pitfalls of it.

Sidon: Bazz's boss, Prince, adopted ypunger sibling (in a way) and old friend all at once. Maybe even more. It's complicated. Annoyingly confilict avoidant, desperate to keep everyone happy. Smitten.

Other people Bazz considers his friends, but aren't part of the gang: Kodah, Kayden, Jiahto ---

Of course I have so much more to say about every one of them, and the descriptions vary wildly, based on whose pov we choose to assume. They are all in some ways terrible and problematic, full of various traumas, but also friends who try to do their best. Such is life. There also is a story behind all of it, obviously. I don't know if I'll ever end up publishing the pages upon pages of comics I have about those guys, since it'd require loads of editing and rewrites, and i don't have this kind of time. But on the off chance I will, I want the personalities to be revealed in this way instead of big headcanon dumps. It's more fun this way.

Zelda didn’t think, didn’t hesitate; she just leapt for Link, reaching desperately for his hand as her own began to glow. She’d protected herself and the Brigade from a cataclysmic fall like this once, she could do it again, weakened powers be damned. She needed to save Link. No matter what, she needed to save him. They were getting out of here together, damn it all. Her torso was still burning, her head was swimming. Black spots danced across her vision, please let this work.

There was a burst of gold in Link’s pocket (the teardrop!) and it spread outwards in waves of glitter. The gold encased his entire body, the Triforce of Courage blazed with all the power of the sun, their fingers brushed and then, in one last blast of light-

“Link!” Zelda screamed again, more desperately than ever as he vanished before her eyes.

Raising a Zora - Bazz x reader

Bazz loves the idea of having children with you

he’s dreamt about it for such a long time

but he knows that Zora/Hylian reproduction wouldn’t work

you two talk about it daily

“You know I want nothing more than to have a family with you, right?”

you two decide adoption is the best route to go

and you’re both so happy with this decision

you both adopt a Zora egg

and it’s the smallest one you’ve ever seen

you’ve never seen Bazz be so gentle with ANYTHING

and here he is, cradling this egg with so much love

you’re sure to place it in water for when it hatches

and Bazz is always checking in

about a month of so after adopting, the egg hatches

Bazz squeals with delight

he’s so attentive

even when he’s supposed to be working, he’ll come home and check in with you and the baby

“How can I not come see my little family in the middle of the day?”

after he arrives home, he’s sure to tell you all about his day

he even has stories ready for your little one

it’s the same for about a year or two

and everyday, he has more exciting stories

once your child reaches the metamorphosis stage, Bazz stays home from work to help around the house

he knows how insane things can be 

and mainly because he did help take care of Dunma when Rivan needed help

it happens so quickly

and soon enough, you’re teaching your baby to walk, talk, etc.

Bazz is adamant about taking the baby to work with him when he does surveys

that way you can get a break

and so he can teach your little one some really cool Zora Guard stuff

it’s nice to get a day to yourself

he comes home with your little one smiling fin to fin

“Guess what we learned today?”

he sets [them] down, and [they] stumble over to you

“I’m sorry that we were away when [they] took their first steps. I wasn’t expecting it so soon.”

“It’s alright, Bazz. We can’t control these things. I’m just happy you’re both safe and sound here at home now.”

Bazz hugs you tightly

years go by

nothing seems to change except their coordination and skills

Bazz takes [them] on surveys quite a bit

and he’s always trying to teach [them] guard techniques for fighting

these two bring you nothing but pure joy

and you can’t wait for your little one’s next stage in life

once [they] hit age 20, [they] start school

Bazz picks them up EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

with the exception of the times he cannot seem to get out of work

he’ll bring [them] to work as much as he can

and your little one ends up having the WHOLE Zora guard helping [them] with homework

the Big Bad Bazz Brigade bringing up yet another child together 

Dunma and your child definitely bond over this

and you’re so thrilled to have an entire community to help you if you need some time to yourself

it’s chaotic

Something You Aren’t

Word Count: 777 words

Tw: transphobia (minor commentary toward a nonbinary character)

Description: The Big Bad Bazz Brigade is out on vacation. When they get split up in a shopping district, Bazz unfortunately is faced with the less than respectful views of a lone Sheikah.

Note: it’s mostly fluff? Sort of. I started writing, and it was supposed to be a Roleplay starter for my wife, but I got a little carried away and couldn’t figure out how to work it into being a starter rather than a whole story. Either way, here you go! Enjoy. If you draw anything, I’d love if you tagged me!

The ONE TIME Bazz takes time away from the Zora Domain. Not on duty. Just traveling with the Bazz Brigade. They’re stopped in a little miscellaneous shop, the rest of the Bazz brigade out on the road outside or ahead to a different part of the shopping district.

They don’t even recognize that it’s them being spoken to at first, pausing to tilt their head to look in the direction of the other. “Me?” Bazz questions, standing up straighter and placing the item in their hand back down on a shelf.

“Yes.” The masked figure clicks back, stepping back slightly as if Bazz would get aggressive. Confusion flits over the Zora’s face in an instant. “How am I delusional?” The captain clicks, turning fully toward them.

“You’re a man, but you pretend you aren’t. You don’t stop being it because you think you aren’t.” The figure tsks.

Bazz actually takes a pause, registering that for a moment. While Bazz had been planning on giving them a response, they don’t even get anything out before the person’s figure is freezing in place.

The Sheikah is stumbling back, knocking an item off one of the shelves in the process, practically scrambling out of the shop in the same instant. Leaving Bazz even more confused. “….weird guy,” They muttered, shaking their head as they turn back around toward what they had been looking at. Only to get spooked as they accidentally bump into Sidon, who seemed to appear out of nowhere.

“I thought you were waiting outside?” Bazz huffs slightly, looking up at their friend. The prince is definitely getting up there in height nowadays, practically towering over most average sized Zora (and other races for that matter).

Sidon flashed a sheepish smile toward the other. “I saw something that caught my eye. Are you okay?” He questions, tilting his head even though he’s already ducked down slightly.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be?” Bazz questions, side-eyeing their friend.

Sidon hummed quietly, glancing away. “No reason,” He replied, “but I think I’m going to step out again. This shop is not quite built for my size.”

Bazz snorts sharply, watching as the comically huge Zora Prince just about bonk his head on the ceiling. “…No kidding. I’ll get whatever it is you were looking at, just get out. Before you give yourself brain damage preferably. Or break something, for that matter.”

Sidon waves them off, shaking his head. “Don’t worry about it. I changed my mind. I’m just going to go wait outside.”

Bazz shakes their head, “Suit yourself.”

Sidon flashed a smile before trying to make his way out of the shop- succeeding but not without smacking his forehead on the doorframe.

Bazz snickers softly as they hear the Zora swear under his breath.

It’s not long before the captain is following suit, paying for their things and making their way out. Only to hear something along the lines of “Feral Zora! He’ll kill you!” from an (unfortunately) familiar voice. The Sheikah was pointing in Bazz’s direction, but, upon them moving to the side, the pointing revealed it was the prince that was the target of the claim.

Sidon snorts, just flashing a bright grin in the other’s direction. All the sunshine vibes he could muster were poured into it. “I’m sorry if we spooked you, but unfortunately your ignorant accusations toward our friend were uncalled for, and you could use a bit of humility.” He states, still smiling despite his very pointed words. Flashing extremely pointy teeth in the process, which only manages to further crumble the Sheikah’s composure, their hands shaking as they point. “SEE?!”

Bazz blinks, confusion flirting across their face. “What did you do?” They drawl, fixating their look on the Prince of the Zora.

“Nothing. He’s delusional. Pretending we’re something, we are not.” Sidon shrugs.

It clicks then what might have happened, and Bazz’s gaze flits from between the horrified Sheikah to their sunshine friend. A warmth blooms in the captain’s chest at once. They’ve never felt more validated than in that moment.

“Well. That’s too bad. They seemed nice.” Bazz drawls, a smile finding its way onto their face. “Let’s get on our way anyway and catch up with the others; we’re wasting daylight.”

Sidon’s expression blinks into his own confusion before flirting back into a more genuine grin. “For sure. Let’s go, then.”

Bazz shakes their head, amusement slipping through as they started on the path. And If the Sheikah has anymore left to say, neither of them pay it any attention from there.

feels weird to have a tumblr sometimes. I write my indulgent little what-ifs, and I have this just in case someone who reads my stuff wants to interact with the person behind the writing. Most of the time, I don't see further interactions beyond kudos and maybe comments, which is entirely fine and probably easier for both parties. Yet I still have this little corner of the internet reserved for anyone who wants to interact with me.

I think we as a fandom don't talk about the big bad bazz brigade enough. like the implication that link arrives at zora's domain and already has a group of friends there that played with him and trained with him and they all remember the childhood they had together. but link doesnt? what did they think happened? did they mourn him, thinking he died? what did link say to them the last time he saw them? did they hang out when link returned? like the implications are so sweet and fun but not a soul talks about it. and the best part is that it's 100% canon.

Thinking about Sidon and how old he might be, there are actually a couple of clues in Breath of the Wild.

Link's childhood friends from Zora's Domain remember him very clearly even though it was over 100 years ago:

"We used to swim together when I was but a child... Remember? Well, it has been 100 years since then. And now I'm over 130 years old."

"What is the Big Bad Bazz Brigade password? Fluffy white clouds! Clear blue...[Zora] [...] The only people who know that password are members of the Big Bad Bazz Brigade!

"We...used to play together all the time."

Sidon, on the other hand, only has a fuzzy recollection:

"I recently remembered something...a fuzzy memory from my early childhood. There was a swordsman that came by every so often and spent a considerable amount of time with Mipha."

Rivan states that he was a child when he, Bazz, Gaddison and Link all played together as part of the Big Bad Bazz Brigade while Sidon says he recalls a "swordsman" in his early childhood.

Link was skilled with a sword from a young age and Bazz mentions that Link taught him sword fighting, but to call a Hylian child of 4 a "swordsman" is quite a stretch. Therefore, he must be recalling Link after he had the Master Sword when he would visit Mipha which was at least 3 times according to her diary since he acquired the sword.

Also Link must have been part of Bazz's brigade when he was a child because he did not visit the domain so often after getting the Sword according to Mipha's diary which states that it was ages between two visits. Sidon also recalls that Link spent so much time with Mipha when he was there that he felt Link was stealing Mipha away from him, so Link wasn't running around with Zora children saying things like "fluffy white clouds, clear blue Zora" when his responsibility as the chosen hero was heavy on his shoulders. Link was skilled in combat since he was 4, so he likely trained with Bazz while they were both kids as well since he had more time and freedom to do it then rather than later.

Therefore I assume that Rivan, Bazz and Gaddison were all part of the same generation along with Mipha and Kodah (another one who knows Link from his time in the domain), so I don't think it is a stretch to assume that they would be of similar ages.

In my previous post about Zora lifespans and ages, I used the developer note for Paya's age to determine Link's age since she was made to be around his age: 18-20 years old. We know Link is at least 17 and born before Zelda because he ascends Mt. Lanayru with Zelda on her 17th birthday, and only those of 17 or older may ascend the mountain.

I also determined that the Zora may grow at half the rate of Hylians, so 40 years old would be about the same development stage as a Hylian at 20 years old. Mipha, who is an adolescent actively growing to full size as she was never considered unusually small for a Zora, would have been a similar development age to Hylians of 15-17.5 years old which places her around Zelda developmental age at the time of her death which falls in line with what Urbosa says about her, Zelda, Link and Revali:

"Zelda, Revali, Mipha, and Link are so young. They are Hyrule's future. Daruk and I hope to help them see that future."

I placed Link at 19 years old in my last post simply because it was right in the middle of Paya's age range, so I'll use that number again to simplify my math since him at age 4 would have been a nice 15 years before the Calamity.

If Mipha was at least 30 but no older than Rivan whom I considered about 35 at the time of the Calamity, then she would have been 15-20 years old when Link was 4 assuming that he is 19 at the time of the Calamity.

This means that Zora like Rivan can recall things 100 years ago when the are around 20 years old, so Sidon would have had to have been younger when he saw Link in the time leading up to the Calamity.

If Sidon was born around the time that Link first came to the domain, then he would have been old enough to remember Link around the time of the Calamity. Even if Link was 17, Sidon would have been 13 when the Calamity struck. If Link was 19 then Sidon would have been 15.

Therefore I think placing him at about 10 years old when the Calamity struck would be more likely as that would be the equivalent to a Hylian of 5 years old which would be well within an age of fuzzy recollection.

The elephant in the room is Mipha and Sidon's mother who is never mentioned even once. We know that Zora hatch from eggs because Muzu makes a reference to "hatchlings", so whatever happened to Sidon's mother could have been from even before he hatched.

If Mipha did write about her mother or her brother's birth in her diary, it would not be unexpected that the paper pages were damaged by water in the domain while it was lost for 100 years. It's surprising that her paper diary could have survived at all in the Zora's Domain—I wonder where she left it...

[edit] actually Mipha's mother is mentioned once on one of the Zora monuments about Mipha's birth, but there is no mention of what happened to her or when Sidon was born.

Anyway...I think it would make sense that Sidon was about 10 years old and vaguely recalls Link when he would visit Mipha. This is very speculative of course—all that we know for certain is that Rivan is over 130 years old and recalls when he and Link swam together as kids but Sidon cannot recall Link very much at all 100 years ago.

Link knew this new task would be difficult. He’d steadily been gaining more attention, feeling the increasing pressure of the world’s expectations on his shoulders. But when the king himself had appointed Link to be the princess’ personal knight…

He’d been honored to take the task. The other Champions had congratulated him (well… almost all of them. He didn’t particularly care for Revali’s approval, though). But the princess herself…

To a degree, Link felt like he sort of understood. She felt pressure too, honestly. He just wished she wouldn’t take it out on him. He just wanted to be able to do his job.

Sighing heavily, he rubbed his face tiredly. Princess Zelda was thankfully in safe hands now, as they were visiting Van Ruta and Zora’s Domain was one of the safest places in Hyrule Kingdom. It also gave him a chance to just relax somewhere familiar - Link loved exploring all of Hyrule—it was one of the benefits of this position—but he was always on edge when they were somewhere foreign. But the Domain was a second home to him.

There was so much comfort in this place. The smell of water was heavy in the air, a cool, comforting, crisp sensation. Link could taste the moisture, could see how the water played with light reflecting off its surface, patterns dancing on pillars and luminous crystals. The area glowed beautifully in the night, like a gentle light from magical creatures, protecting them from the dangers of the world.

He also knew all the best places to hide.

Zora’s Domain was deceptive in its layout. It looked like a fairly small place, but there were many nooks and crannies for children to find and disappear, and Link had found nearly all of them when he was little. It allowed him some privacy now, for which he was grateful, as he tried to find somewhere that he wasn’t perceived.

He’d had enough of that lately. He was tired. Tired of being stared at, tired of being judged, tired of constantly being on guard, tired of being yelled at for just doing his duty.

”Link?”

His eyes opened abruptly, and he felt his chest tighten a little. The voice was familiar, soft and warm, and he glanced over to see Mipha watching him.

Oh, well. At least it was just Mipha who found him, he supposed. He didn’t mind her company.

Link and Mipha had been good friends when they were little all those years ago. They’d had adventures, taught each other to fight, and had joined the Big Bad Bazz Brigade. At the time, it had been innocent fun. As Link learned more of the political climate between the Zora and Hyrule over the years, he’d realized how much he’d missed. His friendship with Mipha was still dear to him, but when they’d first seen each other years later, he’d been far more distant, far quieter. It was how he’d grown and matured anyway, but with the added knowledge…

They were trying, he thought. Mipha could talk to him, and he even occasionally replied. In solitude, the pair could rekindle that friendship from long ago. He felt comfortable around her.

“I suppose I wasn’t the only one who wanted to find somewhere quiet,” Mipha remarked with a small laugh, trying to be light about the matter. As Link looked her over, he noticed she looked a little tired too. “It can… I understand that everything can be a bit much. That you might need to go somewhere to be alone. I can leave—”

Face softening, he pat the space beside him. Mipha hesitated a moment, unsure, before she settled there.

“It… can be a lot,” she said softly, glancing at him.

Link sighed. Yeah. It could.

“I’m glad we have each other, at least,” Mipha smiled cheerily, hands clasped in her lap. “But I’ll be quiet now. I know this is a place for solace, after all.”

Link wanted to tell her she didn’t have to be quiet. But she didn’t seem particularly upset with the matter, either, and she leaned back, closing her eyes and looking at peace. And somehow… that made it better. Neither of them had to talk. Neither of them expected anything of the other. But they were there for each other, and Link… found more solace in that than he expected to.

He leaned towards her a little. Just a little. She did the same. Their shoulders never touched, but they could feel each other well enough, eyes closed, basking in the moment, taking in the peace of it.

It was nice to be in the Domain.

Name: Lady Lulu Age: Elder Profession: Master Healer, Royal Physician Background: She's been the head doctor of the Domain's healing halls for nearly two centuries. Much like Muzu and Seggin she was one of Princess Mipha's many teachers, responsible for training the Princess in the ways of healing, magical or otherwise. She remembers well the amount of trouble a certain Hylain could find while running around with the Princess and the Big Bad Bazz Brigade. She's also well aware that Mipha likely healed way more injuries of youthful stunts than even she saw from the group. Much like everyone else she greatly grieved Mipha's death, but unlike the other elders her grief grew easier to bear with time instead of festering into hatred for Hylians. She certainly didn't blame Link for the tragedy.

Can you explain the gaddison problematic lore? I love evil women lol

Eeeehhh it never crystallized into anything concrete enough to put in an actual story, so it's very vague and also not real anymore But basically I was playing withe the idea of making her a) very physically violent in an unpleasant way and b) very clearly and purposefully encourgaing Bazz's very toxic behaviors just because it made for good entertainment or suited her needs in the moment... those were the two big ones, among others In the end her being Like This made the zora relationship web too uncomfortable and i decided to tone it down, so now she's just very mean and judgemental and ready to throw hands but not like. in an irredimably horrible way

Link Character Analysis Pt. 1

Child Link

Just as a little note here, by “Child Link” I am talking about the child version of Link from BOTW

What was he like?

Unfortunately, we don’t know much about Child Link in game besides what we learn from the Mipha memory and Mipha’s Diary (BOTW DLC):

- He’s described as “curious and full of energy with a ready smile”

- Has “exceptional swordsmanship” only at “about 4 years of age”! AND he was literally going against adult knights and even beat them! Why that was allowed, I’ll get to that later…

- He’s very impressed by magic!

Where did he live?

Ok. This one’s an unpopular opinion for some people but here’s what I found.

- According to Creating a Champion (pg. 376) , Link had likely started his childhood in Hateno Village.

- HOWEVER, also according to Mipha’s Diary, the KING sent a group of knights to the Zora Domain. The same group of knights that Child Link was with. MEANING that even though Link may have at least been born in Hateno Village, he must’ve ended up in Castle Town, where he spent the rest of his childhood, gaining traction as a gifted swordsman.

Link’s Family

I may be cheating a little on this one, but by also looking at past Zelda games, I can kind of piece together what his family is like.

- In Memory #11 (Shelter From the Storm), Zelda makes the first mention, probably in Zelda game history, of Link’s father who was a knight.

- Although I’m sure Zelda was talking about Link when she gives the comment “Your commitment to the training necessary to fulfill your goal is really quite admirable,” I think she was also still comparing Link to his Father’s journey of becoming a knight. According to Creating a Champion, Link is NOT of nobility. And unlike all the “likelys” and “maybes” that this book says about most of Link’s past, this information is for certain. Therefore, Link’s father would have had to work HARD to rise the ranks to be personally asked by the King to go to the Zora Domain with the other Hyrulian knights with him.

- Strangely enough, just a few paragraphs before this, Link is said to be born into a line of knights. These could also probably have been Hateno knights too

- This is the point where I’m slightly cheating. In the Japanese version of Creating a Champion, there’s a whole TWO PAGES of concept art that us English speakers are missing out on. 😔 On one of those pages, we can see an image of a (what looks like) 12 year old Link with an older man and a little girl. The man may look older than a father but, after what Zelda said, this can likely be Link’s Father!

- And the little girl would likely be Link’s little sister! Unfortunately, there’s no evidence in the game that Link had a little sister, but after looking at the Wind Waker game for reference, I have a feeling this girl is supposed to be BOTW’s version of Aryll. She even looks like she loves Cucco’s while Aryll in Wind Waker loves seagulls! I could go on about what this means for Link and his backstory, but then that would be touching “spoiler territory” for my duology, and I don’t want to do that just yet!

Link’s Childhood Friends

Most of Link’s friends that are mentioned in game are actually Zora! Although I’m sure he had some Hylian friends as well.

- Bazz: Was the leader of the Big Bad Bazz Brigade (BBBB). Link trained him sword fighting (or at least the “art of the blade”).

- Rivan: him and Link used to swim together when they were kids. Also a part of the BBBB

- Gaddison: her and Link used to play together as kids. She was also part of the BBBB, known as the heroine.

- Mipha: she used to heal Link whenever he would get hurt in training.

I’m not adding Kodah to the list because (I assume!) she didn’t “befriend” him until he was older

unfortunately I can't find a clip of Bazz talking about the BBBB, but believe me that it's in the game!

The landscape didn’t look that different. When Link first woke up, he’d been stunned by the beauty of the land around him, infinitely curious and desperate to explore. That hadn’t changed either. The biggest change was how peaceful everything was without Ganon swirling around the castle.

“We’re making good progress,” Zelda said. She looked over Hyrule Field with a smile. She looked much better than she had six months ago: a sparkle in her eyes, colour in her cheeks, no shadows under her eyes. She didn’t flinch with every step anymore. 

“And still so much to do,” she added with a small sigh, her gaze locked on the distant ruins of Castle Town. Link wondered how Hudson and his crew were getting on. He wondered how Teba and Yunobo were doing in the castle. They should go join them soon. “And so many painful memories we must bear, but…I truly do believe that, united, we can all restore Hyrule to peace and prosperity.
