The Targ Talk: House of the Dragon S2
Episode 5 commentary
Alicent finally realizing that the men she sided with doesn't give a shit about her. The fact that even Crispy and Larys agreed that Aemond should be Prince Regent was a huge slap on her face. Now that she knew that she is no longer of use to the council, realized why Rhaenyra rejected the orange bitch, and how much of a vengeful motherfucker her own son is, I am interested to know as to what Alicent would do next. If she wanted to correct her mistakes, she'd turn her back against the greens and bend the knee to Rhaenyra. But that would mean that she's gonna betray her own sons, and she'll possibly end up dead before she even gets out of the castle gates. OR she could stay loyal, keep her mouth shut and let Viserys' children kill each other while she isolates herself in her own chambers, carrying that guilt of how much she fucked up until she passes. Let's see what she does next.
Rhaenyra's council is full of misogynistic cunts and the only ones who respect and support her are the women. Rhaenys fought to the death to make sure Rhae sits on that damn throne, something she never got to do because she was born a woman. My badass Baela on the other hand defended the queen and reminded Corlys that Rhaenys' fate was her own choosing, and no one should be blamed in her untimely demise. Honestly, she and Jace would have been the best king and queen.
I have always loved Jace in both the book and the show, still young but has already showed his potential in becoming a great leader. This makes me dread his fate even more.
Targaryens are known for their inbreeding, but it is uncommon for a parent and child to have a relationship that is beyond...well...a parent and child. I am one of those who felt uncomfortable watching it, but when I saw this, the first thing that came into my mind was Daemon has mommy issues. But then I remembered that he was very young when Alyssa died so that's highly unlikely. I did however found an explanation for that vision, someone wrote that the sex scene between Daemon and his mother was actually about Daemon's superiority complex. He likes being the dominant one, it arouses him (hence the sex scene). Looking back at the previous episodes, no one has really regarded him as the stronger or the better brother and that vision was feeding his ego basically, and I couldn't agree more.
I NEED LONGER HELAENA SCENES.

WE FELL IN LOVE IN OCTOBER || b.targaryen
SUMMARY: “princess (name) velaryon was betrothed to her brother, prince jacaerys, but rumours say that she preferred a different sort of fruit to the one offered by men…”
REQUESTED: yes/no
PAIRING: baela targaryen x fem!velaryon reader
AUTHOR’S NOTES: i haven’t seen a baela x reader, it’s actually criminal. she’s so pretty <3. the reader is a velaryon by law but is actually a bastard (you guys can choose who the reader’s father is, like if the reader’s dad is ser criston, daemon, ser harwin or anyone else). sorry if my description of a woc isn’t that good, it’s my first time writing for baela.
WARNINGS: homophobia, incest (sip size), mentions of arranged marriage, cousin incest, typical westerosi shenanigans, forbidden love, baela being a sweetheart, kissing, discussions of infertility etc
•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•
YOUR FINGERS RAN ACROSS THE INITIAL CARVED INTO THE STONE OF THE RED KEEP’S WALL. B + (Your Initial), outlined by a heart. You smiled at it. It’d been there for six years, untouched by any other forces. This was the first time in six years that you’d stepped foot in the Red Keep.
Of course, the reason marking your family’s return to the Red Keep was not one of joy. Vaemond Velaryon was protesting your younger brother Lucerys’ claim to the Driftwood Throne.
You played along for your family but you knew that he had no right to inherit Driftmark. Nor did you and Jacaerys have any right to one day inherit the Iron Throne. You were bastards. Despite your mother firmly denying it, you knew. Everyone knew.
Jacaerys approached you and smiled. You smiled back. You loved Jace, he was your older brother, by a year. You both knew that you would one day marry each other, but you couldn’t help but feeling no romantic feelings for him.
It’d always been this way. Whenever the discussion of marriage came up, you always felt this…distaste for it. Your mother said it was normal to feel like that. But, you never fawned over Lords and their sons like most of the young maidens in Westeros.
You, on the other hand, fawned silently over other young maidens your age. Including one Baela Targaryen. Your cousin. And, technically, your stepsister. You’d been in love with Baela for six years since you’d comforted her at her mother’s funeral.
Baela was the most beautiful maiden to you. With her white curls, her lilac eyes, her chocolate-coloured skin, her full lips. Gods, you could describe her for hours. You’d communicated back and forth for years, writing a seemingly endless horde of letters back and forth. You planned to ride through the clouds on dragon back, with her on Moondancer and you on Vyrax.
“Can you believe that we are back?” Jace asked you, pulling you from your trance-like daydream, “Back in the Red Keep?”.
You shrugged. “No. No,” you shortly answered, moving your hair back slightly, “It is…strange. I mean, we are in the place of our births…”.
Jace smiled softly at you, squeezing your hand. “Everyone is looking at us,” Luke said, breaking the conversation between you two. You thanked the Gods.
Your older brother turned to comfort your younger brother with a smile. “Ignore them,” Jace said, “You will inherit Driftmark when the Sea Snake passes”.
Luke silenced him with a look. “You know very well of the true nature of my birth,” Luke hissed, his tone quietened, “Of your’s, (Name)’s and Joffrey’s. We have no right to any of this,”.
(Name) glanced at her younger brother, adjusting her pale blue cloak that hung across her shoulders. “We mustn’t speak of such things here,” (Name) instructed softly, “We mustn’t…”.
•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•
YOU FOUND YOURSELF STANDING UNDER THE WEIRWOOD TREE AFTER THE ORDEAL IN THE COURTYARD. You always liked the Weirwood Tree with its purple-red coloured leaves that fell in the autumn and the face that resided on the tree. It was a source of solace and comfort in your childhood.
You didn’t feel at home in the Red Keep. Nor on Dragonstone. Sure, you loved your family. You loved them dearly and held them close to your heart. But you felt like a complete outlander in your own home. Like you didn’t belong. You stuck out like a sore thumb between your three brothers.
You tried to actively avoid the factions in the Red Keep. The Blacks and the Greens. You wore your father Laenor’s colours, blue and silver. Laenor Velaryon may not have sired you, but you loved him dearly and viewed him as your father. He felt the same about you.
You knew that he was not truly dead. He was alive. In the Free Cities, with his lover Ser Qarl. You were happy that he lived a life of freedom, away from the conflict of Westeros, and you desired the same.
You’d also communicated with your distant great-aunt, Saera Targaryen, and talked about going to her make-shift kingdom on Voltanis. It seemed perfect when you wanted to escape.
“(Name)?” A sugar-sweet voice called. You turned around, eyes widening and your heartbeat quickening. In a darker blue dress, with her hair flowing down her chest in silver curls, was her. Your Baela. Your sweet Baela, “You may not recognise me…but I am-”.
“Baela,” you immediately answered, tears beginning to burn in your eyes, and a rare happy smile pricking up on your features, matching her own smile, her beautiful smile, “I would recognise you anyway, cousin. It has been too long!”.
You balled your skirts into your fists and skipped over to Baela and embracing her into a hug. Her hand petted your hair, as you held her so tight, holding her close. “I have missed you wholeheartedly,” you smiled, as the hug broke.
You stood in the garden with Baela in your arms, just enough apart to see each other’s faces. “I have been adamantly looking for you,” Baela confessed, “Ever since I arrived with my Grandmother. I was hoping we could reunite and catch up on all the things we missed”.
You smiled at her, a toothless smile but a smile nonetheless. “I would love nothing more,” you honestly responded. You both broke away from the hug, holding each other’s hands, as you walked over to the Weirwood Tree.
•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•
HOURS DRIFTED BY IN AN INSTANT AND YOU AND BAELA LAUGHED AND TALKED UNDERNEATH THE WEIRWOOD TREE. The sun was just beginning to set, casting a mixed glow of orange, pink, purple and yellow across the sky.
“This is nice,” you confessed, resting your head on Baela’s shoulder, “It seems like with all the horrid conflict between the Blacks and the Greens just disappears on a lovely evening such as this,”.
Baela hummed in agreement. You loved sitting out here with her that evening. So did she. You moved your head off her shoulder, to look her in the eyes. “I agree,” Baela responded, “It seems the world is at peace under this tree. Would you not wish to be free of the conflict between your mother and Queen Alicent? To escape anywhere, to be free? To fly across the Narrow City and live in Essos, the Free Cities, Volantis and see the ruins of Old Valyria?”.
You turned to look at Baela, smiling softly. “I’d love nothing more,” you sighed, “But I have expectations. Many of them. I have to marry Jacaerys. And bare him children. And become Queen when my mother passes. But I do not wish for that life. I wish for the life you just told me of,”.
Suddenly, catching you off-guard, Baela leaned in and kissed you. On the lips. Your eyes widened before kissing her back, cupping her cheek. You both pulled away at the same time, grinning and panting. “I think I like you,” you smiled, “More than I should, Baela,”.
“That is amusing,” Baela responded, smiling at you and glancing at your through her eyelashes, “I think I like you more than I should too, (Name),”.
•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•
THE LATER EVENING BROUGHT A FAMILY DINNER THAT WAS TEEMING WITH CHAOS AND INSULTS. Rhaenyra was growing worried when you hadn’t shown up for supper or the hearing for Luke’s claim to the Driftwood Throne.
She paced around her chambers, also learning that Baela was absent from both the hearing and supper. Nobody had seen the two of you anywhere. There was a brief knock at the doors of her chambers, with Rhaenyra beckoning whoever knocked inside.
Jace stormed into his mother’s chambers, following by Luke. “Boys?” Rhaenyra questioned, her eyebrows furrowed, “Whatever is the matter? Have either of you seen your sister of Baela? They have been missing since the mid-morrow,”.
Jace handed Rhaenyra a piece of parchment. “(Name) is gone,” Jace answered in a clipped tone, “Her chambers have been ransacked, as have Baela’s. Apparently, she is in love with Baela and has ran away with her so they can be together without judgement,”.
Rhaenyra’s eyes scanned the letter, tears welling in her eyes, as she looked at the black letters written in her daughter’s hand across the parchment paper, disbelief weighing in her heart.
My Dearest Family,
I apologise for how this letter may sound, but I this is how I depart from you all. I felt like I was living a lie in the Red Keep and on Dragonstone, so I have fled from King’s Landing with Baela. Please do not come and look for us. We want this. I must confess that I am truly in love with Baela and I always have been. I have no romantic feelings for Jace and have only ever loved him as a sister should love her brother, platonically. I cannot be Queen, nor will I subject myself to a life that I do not wish to live. I apologise for any strife my departure may have caused, but know that I truly mean it when I say that I am sorry beyond measure. Please, I beg that you let me live my life away from the conflict of the Blacks and the Greens and this dance of dragons, with my beloved Baela. I am safe and I am alright, do not worry about that. If I might have stayed, I would have been living a lie and denying to myself that I wanted a life as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms and being a mother. I could never be a Queen and I can never be a mother, truthfully. I am barren, according to the Maesters so I can never have children or become pregnant. I am sorry that I lied and I hope one day we may reunite.
All my love, (Name).
Rhaenyra was shocked, to say the least. She felt terrible knowing that her daughter lived like that for years without her knowing. “Should we send for troops to find her?” Jace asked.
Rhaenyra shook her head. “No,” she denied, shaking off the idea, “No. We shall let your sister live in peace, the life she desires. She is happy now,”.

HOTD S2 [5/10]
I must be honest. I haven't liked the 2nd season too much. It was boring, repetitive, anti-climatic, an invention with no sense from Ryan.
The only reason I keep coming to watch the show is because of the casting actors but otherwise I wouldn't have watched it! I love Ewan, Tom, Phia, Emma, Olivia, Matt, Harry, Bethany, Fabien, etc. And I don't like how the show is making their characters look empty and silly. They have been using the youngest cast for the promotion for just 10-12 minutes in all the season, Ewan being the face of this season and only had like 14' is a crime. I don't like how they are doing it but I hope it is successful just because the cast deserves it.
I don't have high expectations for AKOTSK but still I will be watching it because I am a fan of the GRRM saga and I am still hopeful that they do something good.

"HOUSE OF THE DRAGON" Season Two (2024) Episodes Ranking
Below is my ranking of the Season Two episodes from “HOUSE OF THE DRAGON”, HBO’s adaptation of George R. R. Martin's 2018 book, “Fire & Blood”. The series was created by Martin and Ryan Condal:
"HOUSE OF THE DRAGON" SEASON TWO (2024) EPISODES RANKING
(2.04) - "The Red Dragon and the Gold" - In Queen Rhaenyra's absence and with no word from her consort, Prince Daemon, Princess Rhaenys tries to keep the peace on the Black Council, while the Greens' military leader Ser Criston Cole mounts a campaign into the Crownlands. In King's Landing, Prince Aemond continues to undermine his older brother King Aegon II's fragile hold on authority.
2. (2.02) "Rhaenyra the Cruel" - While Aegon's grandfather and Hand, Ser Otto Hightower, schemes to turn the public against Rhaenyra following the death of Aegon's son and heir, she questions Daemon's loyalty. Meanwhile, Cole concocts a misguided plan for revenge against Rhaenyra.
3. (2.07) "The Red Sowing" - While the war escalates, Rhaenyra makes a gamble and risks everything during her quest for more dragon riders amidst Westeros' citizens.
4. (2.01) "A Son for a Son" - In the season premiere, Queen Dowager Alicent Targaryen grows concerned by her son Aegon's Small Council. Grieving over the death of her second son, Rhaenyra delivers an ultimatum to Daemon, whose plan goes terribly wrong.
5. (2.06) "Smallfolk" - At her heir Prince Jacaerys' urging, Rhaenyra embarks on her risky venture to find new dragon riders. Meanwhile, Aemond takes steps to reshape the Green Council, while the badly wounded Aegon recovers.
6. (2.08) "The Queen Who Ever Was" - In the season finale, Rhaenyra reasserts her authority as Queen over Daemon. Ser Tyland Lannister forms an alliance between the Green Small Council and the Triarchy. While Aemond becomes more volatile, the Master of Whispers Ser Larys Strong plots an escape for the still wounded Aegon and himself.
7. (2.03) "The Burning Mill" - As ancient grudges resurface in the Riverlands, Rhaenys suggests that Rhaenyra seek an audience with Alicent to possibly end any future bloodshed. Cole proposes a bold scheme to take the Riverlands. Daemon arrives at Harrenhal Castle to raise an army for the Blacks.
8. (2.05) "Regent" - In the wake of the Battle of Rook's End, the Greens consider how to fill a void on Aegon's Council. Jacaerys sets out on a rogue mission to the Riverlands to strike a deal. Daemon enlists Lord Willem Blackwood to help persuade the Brackens to bend the knee.

The Targ Talk: House of the Dragon S2
Season finale commentary & overall thoughts:
Tyland Lannister going on a wrestling match, and well...bedding Lohar's wives will never not be funny. Dude really went above and beyond to secure a naval force that would fight the Velaryon fleet. If he doesn't get a raise for this, I don't know anymore.
With Rhaenyra gaining the upper hand, and Aemond becoming more psycho, Aegon doesn't really have the choice but escape. But with the number of women he had taken, he deserves to have his cock explode like a sausage on a spit. This is an indication that he can longer sire another male heir, unless of course he slept with Helaena the night before he got toasted, and the latter ends up getting pregnant with Maelor. This would make Aemond's claim to the throne stronger...or he could name Jaehaera his heiress which would be so ironic and hypocritical considering that the greens usurped Rhaenyra's throne in the first place because they do not want a woman to rule.
Ulf showing signs of greed and entitlement and Jace putting him in his place is so satisfying. This is one of the cons that I don't know if Rhaenyra had thought carefully. In Ulf's mind, if a bastard like Jace can be named crown prince, and have all these privileges, why can't he? What makes Jace so special that he has everything while other bastards like him were left to fend for themselves? Rhaenyra making them knights is not going to be enough for someone like Ulf, and if Rhaenyra isn't vigilant he will not only betray her, but will use Silverwing to his advantage. You might think, Rhaenyra would still have more Dragons right? She still has Vermithor (if Hugh does not betray her in the show), Seasmoke, Syrax and (finally) Caraxes plus Vermax, Moondancer, and if Rhaena succeeds they'll also have Sheepstealer. The greens are still at a disadvantage with only Vhagar, Silverwing and Tessarion. But this will again put her decision-making into question by her council since she was the one who hired more bastard dragonriders. Also having more dragons didn't stop Jace, Joffrey and Daemon from dying.
The Haunting of Harrenhal finally ends with Daemon having this whole ass vision about the song of ice and fire, Daenerys Targaryen being the one from the prophecy, and she came from Rhaenyra (and his) line. Him finally understanding why Viserys chose his daughter to ascend the throne, and Daemon rallying an entire army for his wife which is cute btw I love that Daemyra is back to being a team now. But let's not forget how horrible the screenwriters were for fucking up Dany's story in Game of Thrones, for me the show ended with Daenerys coming back to Dragonstone, the last two seasons were shit.
So...Helaena can not only have visions, but she's also capable of appearing in someone else's vision which makes her power a lot more interesting. Also I love the fact that she didn't gave in to Aemond's demands and told straight to his face that he was gonna die. I really do hope that we'll get to see more of Helaena's magic, I want her to take Jaehaera (and Morghul), ride on Dreamfyre and find a place or people who could help her hone her power, a peaceful life may also do. But judging from her conversation with Alicent, she might also end up staying for she knew that no matter what she does, she couldn't change her fate.
The final cut in this episode is so far the dumbest I have seen. Rhaenyra choosing to take a chill pill in a desperate attempt to convince Alicent to end this senseless war was...a waste of time no matter how good Rhaenyra's intentions were. Alicent only realizing how fucked up her sons were all this time after she was thrown out of council is just...I don't even know what to say anymore. I thought of Alicent turning her back against her sons but I didn't expect her to actually do it. But this scene just doesn't make sense. Here's why:
If Rhaenyra really wanted to take back what was rightfully hers, she must get rid or punish every single one of the opposing side. Her wanting Aegon executed, but letting Alicent go is so stupid. Alicent was the one who fed poison to her sons' minds, she was part of the greens' scheme to put Aegon to the throne who by the way didn't even want it in the first place, and now Alicent is throwing him under the bus AND Rhaenyra is letting her off the hook just because she admitted her mistakes and "helped" Rhaenyra with a plan to take King's Landing from Aemond and the greens? Has the latter forgotten that she lost a daughter and a son because of what the greens did?
What the fuck is this bullshit?
I just find it hard to believe that Alicent would give up Aegon just like that. It's like creating something and when you make a mistake, it turns out really bad you throw it away and move on. Were the writers even fully aware at how ridiculous this is? Some Alicent stans say that she cared for her children and she tried her best to be a mother, well then...look at her now. Some may even argue that she was a mere tool, okay, but her children were also pawns to this game weren't they? If Aegon is to be executed, then so should she and the rest of the greens especially Crispy and fucking Otto Hightower. If she wants to set things right so badly, then she should also be facing Rhaenyra's punishment. Not just Aegon or Aemond.
Rhaenyra should have at least held Alicent hostage and imprison her, that would have been more realistic than letting her go because she was a former friend *face palms* Ewan Mitchell said in an interview that Alicent was Aemond's kryptonite, then that would have been an opportunity for Rhaenyra to use her against Aemond. Alas, she wasted it. You know what's fucking annoying? This never-ending cycle of misunderstanding. Because if Rhaenyra finds out that Aegon escaped, she'd think that Alicent lied to her, that the queen dowager went to Dragonstone to talk to her and buy Aegon some time to get the fuck out of King's Landing and Rhaenyra is going to get angry, and the tragedy goes on.
Perhaps they came up with that idea to have some sort of comparison with their younger selves. Rhaenyra being able to do whatever she wants while Alicent is being chained by her duties that she never asked for. Now it's the other way around. In addition, if Aegon learns of his mother's betrayal it could also fuel his anger which will make him ruthless next season but...it's still so disappointing.
I never got to say this, but Simon Strong is THE man of the season.
Caraxes cheering up as soon as he saw Syrax and Seasmoke will always be cute.
Overall thoughts: This season is rather underwhelming. Everything else is on point except the storytelling, is this better than season 1? No. Though I love that there are more dragons now and I absolutely love Helaena more this season. I also love that there are more Jace and Baela scenes...before the Battle of the Gullet which I feel like season 3 is gonna kick off with a heart wrenching episode.
Did I enjoy watching it? Hm...the exhilarating part was the battle between Rhaenys, Aegon and Aemond but other than that, it's just meh. My least favorite season so far.
P.S. Tessarion and Daeron are the other greens I stan, they better be worth the wait.

i think it’s dumb that there’s fandom beef between fans of aegon the unworthy’s mistresses/naerys and everyone who reads twoiaf and gets invested in them as characters should be forced to listen to six the musical so they understand that the tragedy here is that these women who had dreams, ambitions, compassion, and intelligence were all wasted on this toxic bag of noxious waste passing as a man, and that what they need to do is remember that HE is the enemy and they have so much more in common with each other than they do differences
