When Tom Glynn-Carney wore his hair longer, the resemblance to Aegon the Magnanimous was remarkable; at least to the Aegon prior to the mess at Rook's Rest.

Just when did fandom become so toxic?
There have probably always been a few assholes lurking about but they seem to have become louder and more brazen in the past few years.
Take the case of Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays King Aegon II Targaryen on HBO's Game of Thrones prequel show House of the Dragon. This week, Glynn-Carney posted a plea to his Instagram Stories asking people to stop harassing his friends and loved ones, which is apparently a thing that's happening: « "It has been brought to my attention that there are messages being sent to my friends and loved ones that are of a hateful and harmful nature. Please stop. This behaviour is not acceptable. Accounts dedicated to this kind of trolling will be taken down. I think we can often forget the power of words. Spread only love. Tom" »
Tom Glynn-Carney is a very cool person. The sort of people who act like this to his friends and family deserve to have Ramsay Bolton as a landlord.
Online, some are assuming that people are targeting Glynn-Carney's friends and family specifically because of his role as Aegon. Glynn-Carney doesn't actually say that, although given that playing Aegon is by far what he's best known for, I don't suppose it could be anything else. Although that doesn't mean it makes any sense. Why in the holy hell would anyone send hateful messages to an actor for playing a role on a TV show, let alone send them to that actor's friends and family? What are people thinking?
The guardrails have come off of social media moderation in recent years. We need to show our displeasure by ditching and denouncing any platforms which make it easy for users to act like dicks to others.
In terms of toxicity, Twitter/X has gone off the scale. Here's an article you might find useful when looking for alternatives. It's a bit on the technical side.
What’s the Difference Between Mastodon, Bluesky, and Threads?

Tom Glynn-Carney is dyslexic. And he has synaesthesia. As someone who is neurodivergent myself, I just love him even more than I did before.
Scripts for House of the Dragon are hot property, top secret documents sent over on encrypted links. (Glynn-Carney is the exception to the rule; “I’m quite dyslexic so I have mine on yellow paper. I can’t read off a screen that well.”)

« I find people talking about their process insufferable but whatever my process might be in terms of figuring out the character, that would be it. Aegon’s lack of direction affects the way that I play them. I was never coming in with any sort of preconceived ideas about what the scene would be like. I’d come in knowing my lines and everything like that, but they’d be in my brain. I wouldn’t be able to jump in halfway through the scene, I’d need to take a full run at it. It’s really a difficult thing to describe, but I wouldn’t want them to be too rehearsed. Ageon keeps people just on the brink of not knowing. With other characters, depending on their personality traits, I might play them differently and not someone that is just on the brink of total collapse like he is. »
— Tom Glynn-Carney talking about his character Aegon II Targaryen in an interview with Kelsey Barnes at 1883 Magazine.
It's a marvelous interview. He's really given a lot of thought to Aegon's mindset. Here's a bit more.
He’s a pendulum isn’t he? He is just constantly flitting from one side to the next. With the other character I’ve played, there is a spectrum of range. He regularly slips from one end of the spectrum to the other. That empty space in the middle isn’t actually empty — it’s jam packed with all sorts of different things. He’s so layered and such a great character to play because he’s always keeping me guessing and working him out. It feels like teamwork, which is a weird thing to say, but it’s good. Those extremes are great to play because what you don’t often get to do in contemporary pieces you can in things like House of the Dragon, like exploring those extremes.
There are a number of photos in the article of Tom wearing various fashions. This is the one I found most interesting because it's the one time his facial expression makes him look like someone who could actually be Aemond's brother.
