[ad_1] Wayne Osmond, one of the original members of the Osmonds sibling singing group, is no more.  As per Variety, he breathed his last on Wednesday in Salt Lake City. He was 73. Merrill Osmond, one of Wayne Osmond's brothers, shared on Facebook that Wayne suffered a massive stroke, and that he was able to get to the hospital in Salt Lake to say his goodbyes before he passed. The family also issued a statement that read, "Wayne Osmond, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully last night surrounded by his loving wife and five children. His legacy of faith, music, love, and laughter have influenced the lives of many people around the world. He would want everyone to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that families are forever, and that banana splits are the best dessert. We love him and will miss him dearly." Donny Osmond also shared a heartfelt tribute on X, writing, "Wayne brought so much light, laughter, and love to everyone who knew him, especially me. He was the ultimate optimist and was loved by everyone. I'm sure I speak on behalf of every one of us siblings when I state that we were fortunate to have Wayne as a brother." Wayne Osmond, known for his baritone voice, first performed with his siblings Alan, Merrill and Jay as the Osmond Brothers, when they began performing at their LDS church in Ogden, Utah, and then developed as a barbershop quartet on the secular circuit. Discovered singing at Disneyland, they made their television debut on "The Andy Williams Show" in 1962, and eventually became series regulars, according to Variety.  In 2004, Wayne did an interview with Coping With Cancer magazine in which he was candid about health problems he'd had up to that point, including having a brain tumor as a child. At the time, he was celebrating his 10-year anniversary as a cancer survivor after suffering what he had been told was a recurrence of his childhood cancer, which was finally diagnosed as ependymoma, "a childhood cancer that is very fatal for kids." He remained undaunted as he went through treatment, saying, "I went back to performing six months after I was diagnosed. I wore my cowboy hat on stage since all of my hair had fallen out from radiation. But after a while it grew back." "The greatest part of all this is that I've become even closer with my sweetheart, Kathy," Wayne said about his wife in the 2004 interview. "She's an absolute angel. I'm a very, very blessed man. That's what I am. ... I've been enlightened. And now I look back at it and I think to myself, I'm glad that I got cancer. Isn't that something? It really opened up my eyes. It made me realize that life really is important. And I'm only 52 years old - I hope I can go another 52!" There were further health challenges, though, as Wayne lost almost all of his hearing as a result of the cancer treatment, and suffered what was described as a major stroke in 2012. My Two Lives Ch. 8 - Our New Home
Tumblr media
Previous Chapters:
[Chapter 1: Westfallen Blues]
[Chapter 2: From Student to Hunter]
[Chapter 3: The Doe and the Buck]
[Chapter 4: The Day the Wardrums Came]
[Chapter 5:  Hard Times in a Harder City]
[Chapter 6: The Fall of Stormwind]
[Chapter 7: My First Friend]
We ran aground the shores of Hillsbrad Foothills after ten days at sea. Solid ground couldn't feel any better. No more trying to move with the waves, and I could finally have as much room as I needed to stretch my legs.
We camped out at the coast where we arrived. Commander Lothar wanted all the refugees here before we made any more moves. We named this area off the coast of southern Hillsbrad “Refugee's Landing.”
Lordaeronian emissaries came to meet us and introduce us to the land. We stayed here for another day to let all the other refugees catch up.
Once everyone was here, we were offered Lordaeronian citizenship if we wanted it. No one declined. We were weary, and we couldn't wait to get back on our own two feet. For all we knew, we could never return to Stormwind.
We had the option of settling down anywhere in the land and allowed to integrate into Lordaeronian society. The choice was bittersweet. We'd have to finally part ways with the friends I'd made on the mass exodus to Lordaeron.
Archie, the mage apprentice that allowed us to have clean water over the entire journey, headed north, going off on his own on foot to try his hand at learning in Dalaran off Lordamere Lake near Capital City. He was confident he could find someone willing to teach him and find a place in the Kirin Tor. He was an honest kid, and I knew he'd become a fine spellslinger someday.
"Oi! Arch!" I yelled out as he fit his arms into his pack's straps.
"What's up?" He looked over his shoulder, smiling one last smile.
"Take a bit 'a provisions with ya before ya go." I tossed him some of my jerky bag, Thornbolt secret seasoning and all. "Should last until ya get ta Dalaran."
He caught it, peeling the neck of the bag open and giving the meat inside a good sniff. Archie shot his head back from it, taking a few quick gasping breaths and letting out a sneeze. "How much pepper you put in this stuff?"
"A shitton. Salt ta preserve. Pepper ta taste." I laughed, smacking my palm on his shoulder. "Ya be the best damn mage ya can be, ya hear?"
Archie nodded affirmatively, sliding the jerky bag into the pocket in his coat and giving it a good pat. "I will, Rem. You be safe too now, yeah?"
I grinned in response. Of course I would.
My pop waved him off. "Ya see a bear, ya run like hell, Arch!"
As Archie disappeared into the forest, my pop faced back toward Benton. "S'pose yer headin' up ta Capital City like most 'a the other folks?"
Benton raised a fist to his beard, thinking. He turned to Melody. "What do you think, Dee? Where should we go?"
Melody thought for a moment, her eyes looking to mine before she smiled. "Well. Capital City might be a bit crowded with all the refugees coming in. I think we should head northeast toward the other cities."
"Other cities?" I asked.
"Yeah. There's a couple in the Eastweald," Melody explained. "Andorhal and Stratholme. They're probably not as crowded as Capital City, and there's probably plenty of work to be done. Though if you want more rural stuff, I'd go with Andorhal; got enough land for farmers to stake their claim there and maybe could use more hunters around."
Grandpa Julian grinned wide behind his silver beard, nudging my pop in the side with his elbow. "Huntin' work," grandpa highlighted. "Sounds like a natural place fer us, don't y'all think?"
"Prolly could use a preacher too," my ma added. "How's faith here?"
"Holy Light, just like anywhere else there aren't orcs," Melody answered. "I think we'll all fit right in."
"'We?'" Benton grinned down toward his daughter.
"Yeah. 'We.'" Melody turned to me, a smile brightening up her expression. "These lands are as strange to us as they are to you. How bout me and dad come with you all? You know, help each other get to know Lordaeron?"
I felt a wave of relief at that. I wouldn't have to say goodbye to my first friend. I grinned the widest smile I could that day, and I couldn't help but wrap my good arm around Melody as tight as I could. "Dee and her pop can come with us, right?" I looked toward the rest of my family.
Grandma Ash's expression softened. "I don't see any reason why not."
"Ya do a real clean shave, Ben," my father joked. "We'd be glad ta have ya aboard."
Grandpa Julian extended his hand out toward Benton. Benton did the same, clasping his hand around my grandpa's wrist with a good shake.
"Glad ta have ya," my grandpa patted him on the shoulder.
My ma set her hands on both Melody's and my own shoulder. "There's only one thing ya both gotta do fer one another."
"What's that?" we both asked in unison.
"Look out fer eachother." My ma gently squeezed both of our shoulders as Bessy barked happily, pawing at Melody's leg.
And so began our journey toward Andorhal. My family was in our natural habitat, out here trekking in the wilds. We taught Dee and her dad a few things about living outdoors: how to butcher a kill, how to make a campfire, how to pitch a tent and a few other neat tricks. Things were finally starting to look up as we began to feel our way through the Lordaeronian wilderness, journeying through the Eastweald until we finally arrived in Andorhal.
And Andorhal would be our home for the years to come. By this point, my family owned a large farm just outside the city. My pop stopped hunting after his age began to catch up to him in his sixties. Started tobacco farming. While it was still backbreaking work, he always thought it was better since he didn’t have to venture out too far from the house.
My ma integrated into the Lordaeronian clergy as a priestess, often leading sermons at the church. She became a bonafide pillar of the community. Hell, most folks would recognize her just walking down the street. She was everyone’s friend, and later I tried to follow a bit in her footsteps. Wondered if I could be a priest with a gun.
Benton started a new barbershop in Andorhal. He never wanted for customers. Whenever I needed life advice or just someone to listen to me when I was troubled, I'd visit Uncle Ben and get my hair cut. He was the kindest and most grounded man I knew despite losing his wife in Stormwind. I don't know how he did it.
Melody, I taught her how to shoot a gun and fire arrows from a bow. Often, we would run free in the Eastweald wilderness and bring back game for both of my families to eat. Hell, I think at one point, I actually began to like her more than a friend, but I never did admit it. She later became a teacher in the school. Taught Geography and History of all things.
I made a living continuing on the family hunting business. I was the best shot in Andorhal, and I’d often bring back pelts and meat to sell at the markets. In my later years, I’d work with the city guard and have an occasional job as a bounty hunter, much to my family’s distress. With my gun, work was never scarce.
Grandpa Julian was a wilderness tracker right up until the day he passed quietly at home from age. Grandma Ash, bless her heart, followed a couple years later. They were married happily for around fifty-seven years. I bawled like a baby both times. By then, Stormwind was rebuilt.
We sailed back to Stormwind and journeyed to Westfall, where we scattered their ashes into the coast. It was our ancestral home, after all. Me and ma put up a grave just under a tree overlooking the water so my grandparents could always have a peaceful view of the waves washing in and out.
Went back up to Andorhal. By this point, we've lived in Lordaeron for about fifteen years. And I thought life would just be normal from then on out.
But unfortunately, that ain't how things turned out.
We all know there ain’t a happy ending for Lordaeron.

A good week for RAW.  A solid week for NXT. An average week on Smackdown. And through it all, the WWE seemingly lost about a billion dollars in value due its stock being down with 4th quarter financials released after the firing of two top executives, George Barrios and Michelle Wilson.
Now, according to Vince McMahon, the WWE may be shopping the streaming rights to its own PPV’s to an outside streaming service. What does that mean for the WWE Network? Will it become a VOD service? The allure of the network has always been to get the monthly PPV’s along with new content and access to hidden gems and past shows at your fingertips, all for – say it with me – the low, low price of $9.99 a month. If you take away the PPV’s, that’s a big chuck of the attraction. Stay tuned as we could learn the outcome of all this before WrestleMania according to McMahon on this week’s conference call.
So, when all is said and done. When the out-of-the-ring news overshadows the product in-the-ring and on tv, it’s not a great week for the WWE. I’d have to give RAW the number one show of the week, not because NXT nor Smackdown were bad. They weren’t. NXT was a solid show and Smackdown was ok, but what Randy Orton did in front of an amazing Salt Lake City crowd that trudged through a massive snowstorm in Utah made it a hotter show.
Star of the week:
"YOU answer to ME!" – @AngelGarzaWWE to @humberto_wwe #RAW @Zelina_VegaWWE pic.twitter.com/feYnFnMUts
— WWE Universe (@WWEUniverse) February 4, 2020
Angel Garza – Pulling double-duty on RAW and NXT gives Garza the spotlight this week. If he continues to shine, maybe he’ll be sticking around even after Andrade returns from his 30-day suspension. Sure, I could’ve given it to Randy Orton for his monster-heat, but Garza put himself out there in an impressive debut and stood out on two shows.
RAW
RESULTS
Liv Morgan defeated Lana
Non-title 24/7 Championship Match: Drew McIntyre defeated Mojo Rawley
Six-Man Tag Team Elimination Match: Buddy Murphy & Authors of Pain defeated Kevin Owens & The Viking Raiders
Aleister Black defeated Eric Young
Rey Mysterio, Jr. defeated Angel Garza via DQ
Asuka defeated Natalya
WWE Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Ricochet defeated Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley
What we loved:
“I can’t do this.” @RandyOrton leaves the WWE Universe without an explanation for his savage attack on @EdgeRatedR. #RAW pic.twitter.com/xkwysFO3et
— WWE (@WWE) February 4, 2020
Mega-heat – Randy Orton said nothing. And we LOVED it! That’s how you draw mega-heat my friends. Less is more! We are going to have one helluva Road to WrestleMania between Edge and the Viper.
New blood – I’ll give the WWE credit for continuing the Brock Lesnar-Ricochet storyline for a payoff at a big spot at the Super Showdown in Saudi Arabia. Instead of falling back into yet another Rollins vs. Lesnar or a short-term Lashley vs. Lesnar spot, it made sense to follow-up the Royal Rumble low-balling storyline between the WWE Champion to give Ricochet his first shot at the company’s top title. Of course, we know he has no shot at winning, but at least it should be a good match.
Tempers are high in this heated matchup between @NatbyNature and @WWEAsuka on #RAW! pic.twitter.com/6MPkk5yBBV
— WWE (@WWE) February 4, 2020
Asuka vs. Natalya – Good, old-fashioned slobberknocker right here! Two of the most physical superstars in the women’s division going at it is a must-watch.
Hello, Angel – It may be just a short-term fix until Andrade returns from his 30-day Wellness suspension, but it’s good to see Angel Garza get the call-up for a face-to-face with his cousin Humberto Carrillo and Rey Mysterio, Jr.
See you Wednesday, @MsCharlotteWWE. #WWENXT @RheaRipley_WWE pic.twitter.com/wju4PLrKUd
— WWE NXT (@WWENXT) February 4, 2020
Charlotte vs. Rhea – We told you it was coming! Realistically, can we see Charlotte Flair heading back to NXT full-time, nope! But it will be interesting to see these two go back-and-forth for a few weeks over RAW and NXT on the Road to WrestleMania.
What we didn’t love:
RAW needs something – Remember back in the day, we had Piper’s Pit, The Barbershop, the Brother Love Show and more. Well, it’s time for RAW to have something like that. It just seems like the show’s getting repetitive with run-ins and in-ring long promos time after time. It needs to have something outside the ring to turn to on a semi-regular basis, not every week. Make it an attraction and something to look forward to. And no, it has to be more than the Saturday Night Live Update rip-off we get from The Street Profits.
Meh:
Ruby Riott returns – Ruby Riott returns to attack her former Riott Squad member Liv Morgan and seemingly join forces with Lana. But why? Do we now get Sarah Cross joining Morgan soon to even the odds? Underwhelming for a return IMHO.
NXT
RESULTS
Angel Garza defeated Isaiah “Swerve” Scott
Dominik Dijakovic defeated Killian Dain
Mercedes Martinez defeated Kacy Catanzaro
Non-title NXT Cruiserweight Championship Match: Jordan Devlin defeated Tyler Breeze
Tommaso Ciampa & The BroserWeights (Pete Dunne & Matt Riddle) vs. The Undisputed ERA (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly) went to a no-contest
What we loved:
WE. ARE. NXT.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just in case you forgot, @MsCharlotteWWE. #WWENXT @BiancaBelairWWE @RheaRipley_WWE pic.twitter.com/VSkp2YAAP7
— WWE NXT (@WWENXT) February 6, 2020
Double-teaming The Queen – Not only did Charlotte Flair come back to Full Sail, but she got Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair over before going over, literally, herself as Ripley and Belair topple her ot defend the NXT turf. They’ll be time to cement the Flair vs. Ripley WrestleMania match, but a good, creative job of booking to hype Ripley vs. Belair for TakeOver in Portland first. Belair’s stock continues to rise coming off the Royal Rumble with some quality mic time showing she can handle it with it the top stars.
Double-duty Angel – Monday night. Wednesday night. What’s next for the former NXT Cruiserweight Champ? Maybe a trip to Smackdown to complete the trifecta!

on you, @roderickstrong! #WWENXT pic.twitter.com/ALg7wygoog
— WWE NXT (@WWENXT) February 6, 2020
It’s not a Dream – Welcome back Velveteen Dream! Just when it looked like The Undisputed Era had the upper hand again, back comes the Velveteen Dream to make it a nightmare for Cole and company! The only down side to it could be a possible injury to Ciampa heading into TakeOver.
What we didn’t love:
The look – We will continue to say it until it changes. The WWE rarely does anything that looks small, especially against a rival. Yet, when going up against AEW on Wednesday nights, the look of NXT appears lesser when put in the cozy confines of Full Sail. It’s times to take it to the road a few times a month. The talent and the audience deserve it! As for quality, NXT has it. Now it’s time to sharpen up the look. The WWE, with its lucrative TV deals and Super Showdown money from Saudi Arabia, can afford it.
Too little KC – Yes, I’m biased being a Ninja Warrior fan, but I need more than just under three-minutes of Kacy Catanzaro. It was nice to see her return to TV, but in pretty much a squash match against Mercedes Martinez doesn’t cut it for me.
SMACKDOWN
RESULTS
The Usos defeated Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode
Elias defeated Cesaro
Daniel Bryan defeats Heath Slater
Sheamus defeated Apollo Crews
Smackdown Women’s Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Carmella defeated Alexa Bliss, Naomi and Dana Brooke
Here’s the thing about this week’s Smackdown. It was perfectly fine. Nothing tremendously great, but nothing over-the-edge bad. It just was there and that’s not how I think the WWE wants to have its only show on broadcast TV to be looked upon, especially when it has two major events – Super Showdown in Saudi Arabia and WrestleMania coming up. Every week should be treated as special.
"HERE'S YOUR BREAKING NEWS: #TheFiend @WWEBrayWyatt, YOU'RE NEXT!" – @Goldberg #SmackDown pic.twitter.com/QDQxuCB6IH
— WWE (@WWE) February 8, 2020
This week, Goldberg’s return was more of a throwaway.  A rematch for the Universal Title a year later against The Fiend, who wasn’t even the person to beat Goldberg last year? Huh? I get that they want to deliver a big-time feel match for the Prince, but it just doesn’t make common sense and give you any reason to believe that Goldberg could win.

— WWE (@WWE) February 8, 2020
The best thing may have been the Otis vignette getting ready for his Valentine’s Day date with Mandy Rose for next week. Now that’s MUST SEE TV my friends.
Sheamus, after weeks and weeks of saying Smackdown doesn’t have any challenges for him, is making that seem true as he doesn’t really have a true suitor – no, I don’t count Shorty Gable’s, ahem, short feud.
Good to see Heath Slater is alive, losing to Daniel Bryan via a ref stoppage. You have to wonder what’s next for Bryan and the born-again YES movement.
And no, I can’t believe they are trying to give us yet another King Corbin vs. Roman Reigns match at Super Showdown inside a steel cage. It’s the feud that no one cares about that will never end!
On the positive side, the Dirt Sheet returned with a few funny moments from The Miz and John Morrison, complete with cameos from Lance Storm and John Laurinaitis. Elias and Cesaro was pretty fun.

The area that is now known as Syracuse wasn’t much of anything more than two centuries ago, but that all changed in the early 1800s. It was inevitable to many, as the land was level, it was near numerous salt supplies, and it would be the perfect spot to connect the eastern and western parts of the state. John Wilkinson thought the village looked quite similar to a city over in Italy, so when it came time to name it in 1820, he gave it the same name. It was then that Syracuse was born, and it became a city once the village and the nearby village of Salina merged.
Hotels, shops, factories, and more appeared everywhere, and it continued to grow with the expansion of the railroad and canal system. The city grew, even more, when the industrial plants arrived, but things have evened out in recent years.
If you have never been to Syracuse before, you do not know what you are missing out on. There is so much to see and do in this magnificent city and you will have a fabulous time from the minute you arrive until it is time for you to leave.
You will want to consider staying at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown Hotel (100 East Onondaga Street, Syracuse, New York 13202) because it is rich in history. This hotel originally opened as the Hotel Syracuse in 1924, and while it has undergone some restoration and renovations before being reopened as a Marriott, you will find that it still has many historical components amongst the modern amenities. The rooms are so incredibly spacious yet cozy. The modern design and neutral color tones make the room feel like you’re in your dream home. I never wanted to leave.
You can begin your day with access to Breakfast in the M Club Lounge and later enjoy a delicious dinner at Eleven Waters, which is one of the on-site restaurants. This restaurant uses local ingredients and flavors and creates delectable dishes that you can enjoy in a modern but rustic setting.
Dinner at Eleven Waters
I started dinner with the Smokey Mozzarella Meatballs, which is a mix of Bacon Brisket, Tomato Cream, and Basil. The appetizer makes your mouth water as soon as they’re placed in front of you. They were prepared to perfection and recommended for sharing or if you are really hungry. The bacon brisket gives it a great kick in flavor. The meatballs are quite juicy and savory.
For the main course, I chose the Steak Frites with Au Poivré, served with an addictive Brandy Peppercorn Sauce. I remember going to bed after dinner, dreaming about how amazing this sauce was. My steak was served medium-well and paired nicely with a glass of Lamoreaux Landing Cabernet Franc, NY.
Marriott Syracuse Downtown Hotel also hosts other dining options like Shaughnessy’s pub, Barbershop Bar, Cavalier Room, and Cafe Kubal.
You will find that your options at Marriott Syracuse Downtown Hotel are endless, but you will feel right at home just like past guests that include John Kennedy, Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Charles Lindbergh, Bob Hope, and more.
If you happen to be staying at the Marriott during Winterfest, you will be able to join in on the Ice Block Party with Fireworks! It is a family-friendly event that features food trucks, street game activities, and a DJ spinning music from all genres. Despite the freezing temperatures, I had the best time mingling with the locals and taking in the amazing view of the fireworks. Check out, syracusewinterfest.com for more information.
http://xojohn.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/syracuse-winterfest-xojohn.com_.mp4
During your time in the city, you will want to spend some time in the Erie Canal Museum (318 Erie Blvd E, Syracuse, NY 13202) to learn more about the entire Barge Canal System. The permanent exhibits include the history and construction of the canal, a full-size replica of a line boat, a canal town, and murals.
Another excellent museum to visit is the Onondaga Historical Association Museum (321 Montgomery St, Syracuse, NY 13202). You will learn more about Onondaga County, the dinnerware that the Syracuse China company produced, and the Underground Railroad that went through the Syracuse region.
You might want to start one of your afternoons in the city with a stop at Anyela’s Vineyards (2433 W Lake Rd, Skaneateles, NY 13152). The Nocek family began their winemaking journey over in Eastern Europe three generations ago and now they produce their wines as they look out over Skaneateles Lake. You can take a stroll through their vineyards, meet their dog, Lexi, and taste test any of their delicious wines before buying a few bottles to take home. I highly recommend doing a wine tasting, for the ultimate experience. This way you can figure out which wines suit your taste buds and which ones you want to take home. Pricing for tastings is very affordable, starting at $5. Wine Tastings are first come, first serve, so get there early. One of my favorites was their signature 2016 Elation pinot noir.
If you are at a loss for things to do in the evening, you can always venture over to the DESTINY USA Mall (9090 Destiny USA Dr, Syracuse, NY 13204). It is the largest mall in the state with more than two hundred and fifty places to eat, shop, and be entertained. If you don’t feel like shopping, you can always take a spin on the indoor go-carts, Merry Go Round, or get physical in a game of laser tag or rope climbing. The mall is a great spot for groups or independent travelers. As large as it is, expect to spend a few hours there. After I was done shopping and taking in the sites, I ended my time at the movie theater.
There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Syracuse, so you won’t need to worry about going hungry. However, you might be a little overwhelmed with all your choices.
Glazed and Confused (211 N Clinton St, Syracuse, NY 13204) is the place to go if you are craving a donut of the unusual kind. The donuts at this shop are made in small batches, so they are always fresh and tasty. You can always order the basic vanilla cake or cinnamon and sugar varieties, but why do that when you can order one like holy cannoli, pardon my French toast, and no sleep till Brooklyn. They even have doninis, which are flat like paninis and served on top of a classic cake donut. My personal favorite is the Dizzy Pig (a maple glazed, bourbon, sugar, candied locally cured bacon donut). SO GOOD!
Modern Malt (325 S Clinton St, Syracuse, NY 13202) is a classic American Diner that can be found in the historic Armory Square neighborhood and they serve everything from breakfast to sandwiches and burgers to dinners. They are definitely the place to go if you want good food in an amazing atmosphere. I couldn’t resist the Lobster Benedict (Butter poached lobster, chive biscuit, arugula, poached eggs, hollandaise, chive). I washed this delicious meal down with hearty Bloody Mary. Modern Malt was pretty when I visited on a Saturday morning, so get there early.
The original Dinosaur Bar-B-Que (246 W Willow St, Syracuse, NY 13202) opened its doors in Syracuse in 1988 after spending five years on the road serving food at fairs and festivals. They began as a quick lunch and dinner bar-b-que place, but within two years, expanded to add a full bar, full-service dining, and live music. They now have eight other locations throughout the Northeast, but this original serves the best bar-b-que around. You don’t go to Dino’s for a dainty salad, you go to pig out. That’s what I did and I have no regrets! I settled for a combination platter with St Louis Ribs, Pulled Pork, and BBQ Brisket. The only word to describe my experience is magical. The OG location was ridiculously busy on a Saturday night, so expect a bit of a wait.
The Mission Restaurant (304 E Onondaga St, Syracuse, NY 13202) is in the Old Syracuse Wesleyan Methodist Church that was built in the 1840s. That church played a vital role in the Underground Railroad, and while that history has been carefully preserved underneath, the restaurant serves hungry customers above. The restaurant uses local products and everything is made from scratch, all day, every day, when possible. The menu features Pan-American cuisine, which is a combination of Mexican, Southwestern, and South American specialties that all include Latino ingredients.
A stop at Al’s Wine and Whiskey Lounge (321 S Clinton St, Syracuse, NY 13202) is the perfect way to end an evening in Syracuse. This is a premier bar in the city and they serve a large selection of wine and whiskey from all over the world. If you prefer beer, then you can choose from any of their craft beers as well. The nights are always full of live music, friendly games of pool, and whatever other games people are playing that evening. I was overwhelmed (in a good way) by the many bar options. I’m sure you hear “there is something for everyone” often but this time, it actually true! Locals love to hang here and catch up after a long day at work or to unwind on the weekends.
Syracuse is a wonderful town that has been around for a long time and has seen many changes. However, the city is always ready to welcome a newcomer like yourself and make sure that you have a fabulous time while you are there!
While visiting Syracuse and the numerous historical sites, I wondered if there were any haunted history or trails, and there were plenty. Just in time for Halloween, visitors can check out these local spots for a spooky good time. Starting with a site I mentioned earlier, the Erie Canal Museum. At the Museum, paranormal investigations, ghost hunts and guided haunted history tours (10-60 participants) are available by reservation. Docent-led history tours include the recounting of paranormal activity that occurs. The facility can be rented for private events. Erie Canal history tours are also available daily.

Other locations include:
The Landmark Theatre – The historic theatre, built in 1928, has had people talking of hauntings just years after it opened. After falling from a balcony to her death in 1930, Clarissa’s spirit has been haunting The Landmark. She often appears as a pale apparition in a white dress at unexpected times to workers and guests – especially those not following the theater’s rules.
Opportunity: The theatre hosts a ghost hunt each October. Guided tours (of any size) by reservation; guided psychic tours (up to 20 participants) also available.

Wayside Irish Pub – The original building or “Munro House” was built in the 1800s – and reports of ghostly activity date back to the 1960s. There have been numerous reports of the apparition “Sara,” believed to be the young girl who hung herself on the third floor. Poltergeist-like activity is attributed to a friendly ghost named Harry. Other spirits include the Inn’s original owner, Squire Munro, and an unknown traveler who died in the building. Reports from employees and patrons tell of a male figure dressed in a soldier uniform, and shadowy figures in the basement. Patrons and bartenders have felt “touches”, “pokes”, and “cold” spots, and it’s not unusual to have a female patron complain of having her hair tugged on with no one around her. Glasses fly off the bar without explanation, pictures drop off the walls, and an orb may show up in photos taken on-site.
Opportunity: Sip on a favorite beverage, enjoy delicious pub fare, ask the friendly staff about their haunted history. Stay a while and have your own haunted experience. Professional paranormal investigations are allowed by appointment, with management approval.

13 Curves on Onondaga Hill – Over 60 years ago, a brutal, terrifying car accident occurred on Cedarvale Road, just 10 miles southwest of Syracuse. Since that fateful day, it has been said that the road, which is known better by its nickname, “13 Curves,” has been haunted by the souls of those who died in this tragic accident.
Opportunity: Take a beautiful and scenic drive along 13 Curves – a long, winding stretch also known as Cedarvale Road just west of the city of Syracuse – it’s a hotbed for paranormal activity.
Split Rock Quarry – Split Rock, a hazardous munitions plant, unexpectedly exploded in 1918, brutally killing more than 50 men. Today, the Quarry is nothing but rock with an old piece of machinery left called the Crusher. Visitors have reported the sound of footsteps, voices in the distance, and the revving of the Crusher’s engine—which hasn’t run since the horrific blast.
Opportunity: Investigate the ruins of Split Rock on your own. Snowshoe, hike, and bike the former factory site, explore the abandoned tunnels and experience the cold spots firsthand. BE SAFE: Quarry is an abandoned location in the woods. It is highly encouraged that you do not venture in alone and that any visit is at your own risk. Appropriate footwear is highly recommended.
We hope to catch you in Syracuse in the very near future! Check out the gallery below for more personal photos from my trip to Syracuse.
Your Guide To Experiencing Hospitality, Good Eats, and Historical Sites in Syracuse, NY The area that is now known as Syracuse wasn’t much of anything more than two centuries ago, but that all changed in the early 1800s.
