(A/N) Hey guys, it's been a while huh. Things have been pretty chaotic lately, but i have a new part for you all. This chapter is kind of short, but i am as i am typing this working on the next one. Thank Love and Thunder for giving me inspiration. As always i hope you guys like it. let me know. i love hearing feedback from you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Yes, I understand. I’ll keep an eye on her. Yeah, I’ll see you soon.” Loki replies hanging up the phone and letting out a heavy sigh. Running a hand through his hair he turns back only to find Lily standing in the doorway behind him her arms over her chest, something unfortunately he had taught her, her eyes narrowed at him. “Lily darling, you know snooping is a bad habit.”
“When’s mom and dad coming back?” Lily inquires making Loki straighten slightly as he makes his face devoid of any emotions.
“Soon, they just have to take care of a couple things in New York.” He answers folding his arms over his chest to match her.
“Did mom say anything about me?” Lily asks her emotions slipping through the cracks to reveal upon her face.
“She did, she said she loves you; she misses you, and her and Thor will back soon. She also said that you’re gonna come and spend a couple of days with me at grandma and grandpa’s estate.”
“Really?” Lily asks her eyes lighting up.
“Of course. Now let’s go pack you a bag.” Loki says making Lily turn on her heel and rush up the stairs to her room Loki following closely behind her. Pulling his cell phone out he sends his sister a quick text letting her know what is going on. It doesn’t take her long to respond.
Hela – So you’re taking her to the ‘rents house?
Loki – Yeah.
Hela – good, I’ll be there in a few. I just gotta load Fenris into the car.
Loki – see ya then.
Loki had called his mother a few minutes earlier and explained the situation. At the mention of someone possibly coming to try and take Lilly she had offered her house and all the bodyguards Loki would need. His father was also raging at the thought of someone taking his granddaughter. Odin very rarely got mad unless it had something to do with his family. Out of them all Lilly was his favorite.
Taking a deep breath, he rushes off after Lilly to help her pack. The faster they got to his parents’ house the better he’d feel.
“Uncle Loki I can’t find Beau!” Lilly cries out from her room making him furrow his brow.
“Didn’t you just have him?” Loki asks as he reaches her room and Lilly nods.
“He was just here.” She says as she starts tossing her other stuffed animals around in a hope to find him.
Worry floods Loki’s body as he instantly reaches out and scooping Lilly up in his arms races toward the garage.
“What’s wrong Uncle Loki?!” Lilly asks as Loki grips tight to her securing her in his arms.
“We have to leave now.”
“But Beau!” Lilly cries out fear filling her voice.
“I’ll find him later okay,” He moves her so that he can look into her eyes as he continues, “This is important. I need you to be calm and close your eyes okay.”
“Okay…” Lilly replies reluctantly as she buries her face into the crook of his neck.
Loki pulls his phone out as he opens the secret app that was connected to all the cameras. As it opens, he sees a group of men in black outfits, and he curses under his breath. It was too late. Loki takes a deep breath as he hurries towards the basement. If he couldn’t get Lilly out to safety, then he’d get her to the safe room. Closing the camera app, he sends a text to Hela.
Loki- They’re already here. Hiding Lilly now.
After he hits send, he slips the cell back into his pocket and descends the stairs to the room. Reaching the room, he inputs the code and as the doors open, he slips inside. Closing the door behind them Loki sits down in a chair and turns the camera monitors on. He holds tightly to Lilly as she starts to shake in his grasp.
“It’s alright my dear. We’re safe here.” Loki says softly as he gently rubs circles on her back trying to calm her down.
“I want mommy.” Lilly whimpers and Loki’s heart clenches.
“Me too child. Me too.”
Hi I love your fics! For some strange reason I like my feelings to be hurt so my favorite type of fics are were someone cheats. Can you recommend any? Yours are great and I’ve read then hundreds of times
Thanks love. I’m glad you liked them, cause most of them were written for cathartic purposes. I don’t tend to read many cheating fic because they are triggering, I do know of some people that write them.
@unicorns-and-fairy-dust you’ll find some there.
@littlemarvelfics -Whatever Comes Next.
@berjhawn -You Don’t Love Me Anymore Series
Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. I try to stay away from reading too many...they give me anxiety.
Wolfy’s 2k Celebration!
We did it! We hit 2k followers! You guys are all so awesome and I love each and every one of you. I didn’t do a 500 or 1k celebration, but I want to do one for 2k because I honestly didn’t think we’d get here. So here goes!
1. I’m going to list 10 songs. You have to use one (or more) for your inspiration. It can be the title of the song, a lyric, or the overall feel. I’m going to try and avoid songs that people have already used in challenges. *Cough* Halsey *Cough* PLEASE LIST THE SONGS OR LYRICS THAT YOU USED AS INSPIRATION IN YOUR FIC.
2. The fandoms/characters you can write for are: Detroit Become Human, Darkiplier and Antisepticeye, Marvel Cinematic Universe.
3. You can write whatever you want and AU’s are perfectly acceptable. Do you want Loki to meet Darkiplier? Go for it. Smut is also allowed, just be sure to tag it.
4. Has to be at least 600 words long (drabble length), but there is not a limit on word count, only a minimum. This means you can write a novel if you want.
5. TAG ME and TAG THE FIC #Wolfys2k
6. You have two weeks to write your thingydoodle. On August 16th, I will put all submitted works in a masterlist. If it’s not tagged #Wolfys2k, I likely won’t see it and it won’t be put into the masterlist, so be sure to tag it properly.
7. Please don’t use real people in your fics if they’re smutty, thanks. I don’t want to see any Septiplier porn.
8. You don’t have to be a current follower to participate. If you’re just seeing this randomly and want to participate, go for it!
The songs you can choose from are as follows:
1. Haunting by Halsey
2. Like Real People Do by Hozier
3. Paralyzed by NF
4. Sleepsong by Bastille
5. Bully by Shinedown
6. Back From the Dead by Skillet
7. Unsteady by X Ambassadors
8. Seasons by Fight the Fade
9. You’re Going Down by Sick Puppies
10. Criticize by Adelitas Way
HAPPY WRITING.
You Don’t Love Me Anymore - 14
Warnings: PTSD, mentions of death, panic attacks.
Pairings: Bucky X Reader; Thor X Reader; Bucky X Reader X Thor
Master-List
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What do you mean Loki hasn’t arrived there yet?” Thor’s worried voice booms out in the small appartement.
This wasn’t good.
Thor’s stomach drops at the thought of something happening to Lilly.
“I mean Hela got a text from Loki saying that it was too late. That was the last we heard form him. Thor, I know your brother can take care of himself, but I am seriously worried.”
“I know mother, I am too.”
Thor takes a deep breath as he tries to think of what to do next. His brow furrows as he wracks his brain for an answer.
“Mother, I have some calls to make. Keep me updated if you hear anything.”
“Of course, Thor. If I hear anything you will be the first, I speak with.”
“Love you.”
“Love you too my son.” And with that she hangs up the phone.
Thor’s cell phone falls to his side as his eyes dance across the room. He needed an idea. He needed to know what was going on. The thought that he should have stayed home with his daughter filled his mind with regret. Was this his fault? Could he have prevented this?
“Thor? Is everything okay?” You ask as you round the corner to the little room you had been given while you stayed with Jessica.
Thor stares at you for a moment not sure what to say. Should he tell you what’s happening? Would you blame him for not being there for Lilly? The demons of his past start to flood his mind with memories of all the people he couldn’t save while he was in the military. His eyes grow dim as he is transported back to that moment when his best friend laid dying in his arms. The scent of gunpowder and dead bodies filled his senses as the feeling of blood dripping over his hands causes him to start to shake.
No.
No. no. no.
He didn’t have time for this. His heart starts to race as his throat starts to close making it hard for him to breathe.
“Thor?” he hears a distant sweet voice call his name and he looks around for the owner but all he could see was the carnage and destruction of war.
“Thor?!” The voice calls again making him reach up and gripping his hair in his hand let out a loud groan of pain.
“Come back to me.” The sweet honeysuckle voice calls to him and a light slowly starts to fill his eyes. “Thor, my love, I’m here. You’re okay. Everything is okay.” She repeats like a mantra until his eyes finally clear and he sees her standing in front of him her eyes filled with worry. “There you are, it’s okay.”
“I’m sorry.” He breathes out the words as he tries to catch his breath.
“It’s okay, My love.” You whisper as you hold him tightly.
“No, it’s not.” Thor gulps down a breath of air as he holds tightly to you.
“Thor,” You start you mind searching for the right words. “Look at me.”
Thor reluctantly pulls away from you, his deep wounded blue eyes meeting your gaze.
“I am here for you. No matter what. Just like you are my rock, I am yours. I cannot begin to understand what you have seen or what you have gone through, but I am here for you. So just take deep breaths and let’s talk about it, okay?” You say softly and he stares at you unsure for a moment before he lets out a heavy sigh and nods. “Okay, sit down.”
You gently move him toward the bed and as he sits down you move to kneel in front of him. Thor takes deep breaths as he tries to calm him racing heart.
“Whatever it is that is wrong, we will get through this. Okay?” You ask and he nods again.
“I’m sorry.”
“You never have to apologize to me. At least not for this. I’m sure there will be things in the future that will require you to apologize for, but this… this isn’t something you can control. I know that.” He smirks and you feel your heart lift a bit. “Now, do you want to talk about it?”
“It’s the same scene over and over again.” He starts his eyes meeting yours.
You knew what he was referring to. It was the night he lost the warriors three. At least that was what he called them. They had known each other since basic training and had grown so close they were family. Losing them the way he had was none of his control, but he blamed himself for it everyday and that thought alone crushed your heart.
“I don’t even know what happened.” He continues his eyes falling to his hands that were wringing themselves in his lap. “One moment I was on the phone with my mother talking about Loki and the next…” He pauses as he snaps his eyes closed. “I thought I was getting better.”
“Thor, you are getting better.” You start as you reach up to gently cup his face. “My love, you have come so far. This part of you, it’s not something that is easy to fix. It takes time.”
Thor’s eyes slowly open as they look up to meet your gaze.
“I thank the gods every single day that I climbed into that taxi that day and met you.” He starts and happy tears start to fill your eyes. “If I hadn’t have met you…”
“But you did.” You interrupt knowing full well where this conversation was headed. Too many times had you heard the words that he would have probably died had he not found something to live for again. “And it was the best thing that ever happened to me, and our daughter. Lilly loves you with every inch of her heart. I could never imagine a life without you in it.”
A sigh of relief passes his lips as tears slowly fall from his eyes. He leans forward wrapping you in his arms as he breathes in your scent. His mind slowly starts to clear as if your scent alone chases away his demons.
“I love you Thor.”
“I love you (Name). Gods how I love you.” He proclaims as he buries his face in your neck.
You hold him tightly for as long as he needs you too. When he finally pulls away, he gives you a kiss on your forehead and clears his throat. He knew what he needed to do now, and the perfect people to call.
“I must make a couple of calls. I need to call in some favors.”
“Okay, is everything alright?” You ask as he starts to scroll through his contacts.
“Don’t worry about this, you have your hands full with Barnes. I can handle this.” He gives you a reassuring smile before he stands up and moves toward the window.
“Okay… I’ll be in the kitchen if you need me.” You reluctantly say as you stand up and giving him a worried glance head back into the kitchen. You knew he was hiding something from you, and you would ask him about it later.
Thor waits until you are gone to hit the call button. He knew keeping this from you was wrong, but if he had mentioned anything about Loki not showing up at his parents with Lilly you would have a breakdown. No, this he could handle. He knew the exact people for this job.
The ring goes off three or four times before a woman’s voice answers the phone.
“Well now, Thor Odinson, to what do I owe the pleasure of this phone call?” She answers with a playful tone.
“I need your help.” He answers and her playful tone from before disappears in an instant.
“What’s happened?”
“I need you to call the other two and find my daughter.”
“You have a daughter?” The woman asks in disbelief.
“Yes, I’ll explain everything on the way, but I need you all to meet me.”
“Ok, sure, where at?”
“My home.”
“We can do that. When do you wanna meet?”
“Now, we don’t have much time. I lost contact with my brother and he was the last one with her.”
“Alright, we’re on our way. We might even beat you there.”
“If you do, leave no one standing. If they laid a hand on Lilly, I want them to pay.”
“Got it boss, see you soon.” And with that she hung up the phone.
Thor takes a deep breath and grabbing his coat heads for the front door.
“Where are you going?” You ask before he has a chance to walk out.
“You have everything handled here. I’m going to go back and make sure Lilly is safe. She needs me.” He answers half truthfully.
“Okay, give her my love and call me when you get to her so I can see her.” You ask making him nod.
“Of course, my love.” Thor replies as he leans in and gives you a passionate kiss that sends worry running through your body.
When he pulls away, he looks behind you and says, “Finish this quickly, and promise me you’ll watch over her.”
“I will, take care of Lilly.” Bucky replies making you turn to look back and forth between the two men.
Something wasn’t right.
“I must go, I love you.” Thor says stealing one last kiss before he walks out the door not giving you a chance to speak.
“What… what’s going on?”

Going Back a Bit
Thor and Loki follow closely behind Legolas and Tauriel as they make their way into Laketown. Thor and Loki had seen places like this before during their old warrior days. It didn’t make seeing it any easier though. People suffering always made Thor’s stomach sour. If he could help them, he would, but his priority was his sister.
“Where do we go now?” Loki asks as he pulls his cloak over his head to hide himself from the people of Laketown.
As if to answer his question a loud scream echoes out across the night air pulling their attention. They instantly rush toward where the scream had originated and find a house being overrun with Orcs. Loki readies his daggers as Thor unsheathes his sword. Another Orc leaps to the balcony in front of the house, but suddenly, Tauriel appears and stabs it in the throat with her knife. She pulls out her other knife as well and begins killing the Orcs in the house.
Legolas jumps in through one of the holes in the roof. He too begins killing Orcs. An Orc approaches a wounded Dwarf and grabs him by the wounded leg. As the dark-haired dwarf screams in pain, Loki throws his knife, and it plunges into the Orc’s throat. Legolas and Tauriel slay Orcs left and right. Thor joins moments later his body emanating lightning as he sends Orcs flying left and right.
“Get down!” A blonde dwarf cries out as he pulls a boy out of the way of danger.
Tauriel kills the Orc, then turns to kill another one. The dark-haired dwarf from before stabs the Orc as well with the knife Tauriel had thrown earlier, and they together kill the Orc. But then, he falls over onto the floor, howling in pain, and Tauriel looks at him in worry.
An Orc, flees from the house and jumps over the balcony, landing in a boat in the water below. Thor follows him rage filling his body. The Orc yells to a bigger one and Thor knows instantly from the novel who it is. Bolg, the one who kills Kili and attempts to murder both Tauriel and Legolas.
“Ekinskeld. Obguranid!” (Oakenshield has gone!)The Orc calls out as he nears. “Tûg atal bakh maktu argu!” (But there are more outsiders.)
“Gur! Arangim!” (Fall back! Regroup at the bridge!) Bolg orders and the remaining Orcs join him.
In the house, Legolas stabs an Orc and trips it, and it falls backward over the balcony railing and lands in the boat below. The boat acts like a seesaw and sends Bolg’s lieutenant orc, who had jumped into the boat earlier, flying up into the air, where Legolas slices off its head with his knives. As the orc’s body falls into the water below, its head still looks at Legolas. Legolas releases the head, and it falls.
Legolas looks and sees the remaining Orcs running through Laketown after Bolg. Loki reaches out and stops Thor from following them making Thor turn back into the house to search for his sister. In the house, the human boy speaks to Tauriel amazedly.
“You killed them all.” The boy calls out clearly impressed.
“There are others. Tauriel, come.” Legolas calls to Tauriel as Thor looks around the room but only sees three dwarves. Legolas strides toward the door.
Tauriel, who had been looking after the dark-haired dwarf, looks up.
“She’s not here.” Loki says annoyed and Thor feels his patience start to wear thin. “(Name’s) Already gone.”
“We’re losing him!” A dwarf calls out pulling Thor and Loki’s attention.
Tauriel, looking shocked, looks at the injured dwarf, then at Legolas, who is waiting at the door.
“Tauriel.” Legolas looks at her for a moment and then walks out the door.
Tauriel remains standing. Legolas jumps over the balcony and onto a bridge, then begins running. Tauriel looks away and begins to head out the door to follow Legolas. Just as she reaches the door, the dwarf moans in pain, and Tauriel turns to look at him. Tauriel looks after Legolas, then at Kili again. Hearing a noise, Tauriel grabs her knives, then sees another dwarf running up with the Kingsfoil. Her eyes open in shock and she takes the leaves from his stunned grasp.
“Athelas.” Tauriel exclaims as she reverently examines it. “Athelas…”
“What are you doing…?” He asks and she smiles softly.
“I’m going to save him.” She replies moving over to where the injured dwarf was.
Thor and Loki glance at each other for a moment before they decide to wait to ask the dwarves questions. Thor thinks back to the novel and tries to remember the scene he was in. If it was when Tauriel was saving Kili, then that meant that at this moment his sister was at the mountain fighting the dragon. Worry courses through his veins as he glances over at Loki who was apparently thinking the same thing he was.
As much as he wanted to go after his sister; if they left, these people would suffer. (Name) would never want that to happen. Loki groans inwardly as he turns to Thor and says, “We have to help them, don’t we?”
“Yup.” Thor replies instantly a smirk on his lips. “She’d never forgive us if we left.”
“I’m starting to regret being a good guy.” Loki adds.
“When the dragon shows up, let me handle him.” Thor whispers eyeing his brother.
“You didn’t expect me to try my hand against him, did you? That’s not something I do. That’s your forte.” Loki jokes and Thor smirks.
“Excuse me, would you like something to drink?” A young girl asks pulling them from their conversation.
“No, thank you though.” Loki responds making one of the Dwarves turn to look at him.
“You’re (Name’s) brothers, aren’t you?” A blonde dwarf asks pulling their attention.
“We are. How did you know?” Loki asks and the dwarf smiles softly.
“She showed me a picture of you. I’m Fili, this is Oin and Bofur; the one being treated is my brother Kili.” Fili says as he motions to the rest of his company.
Loki and Thor return the smile as Thor says, “I’m Thor and this is my brother Loki. Thank you for taking care of our sister for us.”
“She’s someone I’m proud to call my friend.”
“She does have a habit of making friends no matter the circumstances.” Loki whispers under his breath making Thor elbow him in the stomach.
“I’m sure she would say the same about you.” Thor replies offering Fili his hand which the dwarf takes.
Then before anyone has a chance to say anything else the ground shakes and a loud roar can be heard throughout the skies. Loki and Thor share a look before turning to look at Tauriel who had moved to look outside.
“Guess that’s my queue.” Thor says as a smile covers his lips. “You help get them out?”
“And you kill the dragon, yeah I got the idea.” Loki adds as Tauriel walks back inside.
“We have no time. We must leave.” She announces as she grabs jackets and starts handing them out to the children.
“We’re not leaving. Not without our father.” Bain says as he moves to stand beside her.
“If you stay here, your sisters will die. Is that what your father would want?” Tauriel asks him and he shakes his head.
“Be safe.” Loki starts speaking only so Thor can hear. “You know he’s different from the dragons you’re used to.”
“I know.” Thor replies giving him a smirk as he rushes out the door into the night.
“Where’s he going?” Fili asks as she steadies his brother beside him.
“To kill a dragon of course.” Loki replies making everyone in the room stop and stare at him. “It’s not his first, won’t be his last. Come on let’s get you all to safety first.”
Loki, Tauriel, the dwarves, and Bard’s family get on a boat at the back of the house. They set off down the canal, poling the boat through the floating chunks of ice. Smaug swoops low overhead, and the townspeople scream. Smaug soars high above and away from the town, then turns and dives steeply toward the town, building up fire in his chest. As he gets over the town, he unleashes his flames, and he breathes his fire in a line all the way across the town. People scream and fall and die in the inferno.
“Anytime now brother.”
Thor jumps up onto a nearby roof and giving a smirk unsheathes his sword. Lightning emanates from his entire body as he jumps up into the air and launches himself at Smaug. A loud clap of thunder echoes across the sky as his sword strikes Smaug’s impenetrable scales. Smaug is sent soaring backwards at the force of the blow. Thor lets out a hearty laugh as he rushes off after him.
Smaug collects himself and looks around trying to find what hit him. He feels something land on his back, and he turns to see a man standing there with a bright smile on his face.
“Hello!” Thor calls as he gives him a slight wave.
“What are you?!” Smaug questions as he lands on some nearby houses.
“They call me the God of Thunder.” Thor replies jumping off his back landing on a nearby rooftop.
“Ah, I see now. You’re here for her.” Smaug calls out making Thor narrow his eyes at the dragon.
“You’re correct.” Thor replies gripping tightly to the hilt of his sword.
“She will die here.” Smaug says making Thor clench his jaw.
“I won’t let that happen.” Thor replies.
“You will be powerless to stop it.” Smaug growls making Thor’s body fill with anger. “She will die, and you will have to stand there and watch.”
He wanted to kill this dragon. He had never wanted anything more. But he couldn’t. It wasn’t his dragon to kill. It was the Bards. He couldn’t change the story. The events that happened her had to happen. Thor looks down at where Loki was glancing up at him. Loki knew what Thor wanted to do but he just shook his head.
Clenching his jaw, he looks around the floating town around him and sees someone racing toward a nearby tower with a bow in hand. That must be the Bard. Thor looks at his hand that was holding his sword and smiles.
“You aren’t clairvoyant dragon.” Thor says meeting Smaug’s eyes. “I know how this story ends.”
“Oh really?” Smaug questions and Thor chuckles.
“You know you’re pretty small for a dragon.” Thor antagonizes.
“What?” Smaug retorts in annoyance.
“Are you sure you’re a dragon? I mean I’ve fought bigger. Those dragons doubled your size. Were you the runt of your litter?” Thor continues as he watches from the corner of his eye as Bard readies his bow with his son Bain next to him.
“You and she, are more alike than you think.” Smaug growls and Thor smiles.
“Well…” He pauses lightning coursing through his body. “She is my sister.”
Thor sends a shockwave of electricity toward Smaug giving Bard the opening he needs to fire the black arrow.
It hurtles through the air and sinks all the way to the feathers, almost 6-7 feet, into Smaug’s chest through the spot without a scale. As Smaug leaps forward in pain and fear, Bard grabs Bain, just as Smaug careens into the tower. Thor zooms forward and grabs Bard and Bain before they fall with the tower into the water. Smaug rolls and slides through the town, destroying everything in the town. He struggles to fly into the sky. With massive effort, he manages to flap a few hundred feet up, screaming and wheezing in pain, then gasps for breath. His eyes lose their light, and he falls back down upon the city, dead, with the end of the arrow sticking out of his heart. He lands directly upon the Master’s boat, crushing it and presumably killing everyone on board.
“Thank you,” Bard says as he grips tightly to Thor’s hand.
“No thanks necessary.” Thor replies as he carries them over to the boat where the rest of Bard’s family, the dwarves, the elf, and Loki were waiting.
The girls rush their father and brother as Thor sets them down.
“We should help those we can.” Thor says to his brother and Loki tilts his head at him.
“How do we do that? There’s not enough room in the boat for everyone.” Tauriel points out as she motions the full boat.
“I can fly around and help those I can.” Thor replies before turning to Loki. “You can conjure a boat big enough for all.”
“I can, but why would I do that?” Loki questions making Thor furrow his brow.
“What do you mean why?” Thor inquires meeting his brother’s gaze.
“The dragon is dead, we should collect (Name) and return home before it’s too late.”
“We can’t just leave these people to suffer.”
“Why not?”
“Because it’s not what (Name) would want.” Thor replies and Loki rolls his eyes.
“Fine.”

In My Head - Chapter 17 - Out of Reach
Warnings: Angst
Pairings: Geralt X Reader x Bucky ; Bucky X Reader x Geralt ; Geralt x Reader ; Bucky X Reader
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I sit in a corner next to Thor as I glance around the room at the people in the tavern. All of them were being rowdy and unruly. It was a dramatic change from the quiet of the castle. I felt annoyed. Maybe this was a bad idea.
“Are you okay?” Thor asks kicking me slightly under the table.
“Not really, it’s too loud.” I reply contemplating telling them all to shut up.
I could do it. It wouldn’t be hard. It would however be an abuse of my powers. Something I had promised myself to never do. I’ve seen what could happen when my powers were abused, and it wasn’t a pretty picture.
I lean back against the wall and closing my eyes try to drown out the voices. My mind instantly drifts to think of the last time I had seen Geralt. My heart clenches at the sight of his back fading into the distance.
“This is a first for me, and that’s saying something. I’ve very few firsts left.” I hear the voice of the man from before say, and I focus in on his words. “But to dine with the Geralt of Rivia…”
My eyes instantly shoot open as I hear his words. Thor’s eyes meet mine for a second in confusion as they silently ask me what’s wrong. Looking around the room I spot a familiar head of silver hair and my throat clenches. He was here. Right here in front of me.
What was I going to say? Why was he with the man from before? I needed air. My heart starts to race and I instantly jump up and make my way out the door. Once outside I take a deep breath and try to calm my heart. What the fuck was I supposed to say to him? More importantly, how the fuck, was I going to just walk back inside like nothing had happened?
“Are you alright?” I hear a female voice ask and I turn to see the most beautiful purple eyes I had ever seen in my life.
“I don’t know.” I answer fanning my face. “I’m having a slight panic attack.”
“Here, let me see your hands.” She says holding her hands out to me.
I eyeball them for a moment not sure if I should trust her before my body moves on it’s own and I take her hands.
“Take a deep breath and close your eyes. Focus on something that grounds you.” She says and I do as I am told.
I close my eyes and think of Ciri. Her beautiful and happy smile filling her face as she looks at me and I feel my heart start to calm down. After a few moments I open my eyes and letting out a breath of air smile.
“Thank you, I don’t know how to thank you.”
“It’s quite alright. Just happy to help.” She replies releasing my hands.
“Well, if my thanks is all I can offer, then, Thank you again Miss?”
“Yennefer. Yennefer of Vengerberg.”
~~~~~~~~~~~
Geralt listens as the man in front of him talks about a rogue dragon causing havoc nearby. The local king even commissioned a hunt to kill the poor creature.
“Four teams have signed on. The winner gets the dragon treasure hoard, plus the title of Lord over one of his new vassal states. That is… if he survives.” Borch says pausing to see Geralt’s reaction.
“What does this have to do with me?” Geralt asks as he fiddles with the handle of his mug.
Borch purses his lips for a moment before he covers his heart with his hands.
“I want you to join my team. I have two others who are willing to help us out when then arrive.” Borch answers and Geralt narrows his eyes.
“I can hear it now… a tale of two Zerrikanians and their valiant poet lover. Oh! We’re so doing this. We’re in.” Jaskier says as he looks at the two women in front of him a chuckle filling his voice.
“You’ve wasted your breath, Borch. I don’t kill Dragons.” Geralt responds with a soft smirk on his face.
Borch sighs.
“Take my advice. No treasure is worth dying for.” Geralt adds.
“Depends on the treasure.” Borch replies his face filling with sadness and regret. “What I need is… a new adventure. One final first before I’m too old to do anything but die.” Borch adds looking down at his hands.
“You think killing a dragon will bring you that?” Geralt asks pulling Borch’s attention back to him.
“All I know id there’s one path up the mountain, and it’s overrun with monsters. With you on my team, dear Witcher, we’ll be unstoppable.” Borch concludes and Geralt shakes his head.
“Someone, get me a fucking drink!” a loud voice yells out pulling their attention.
Geralt looks over to see some dwarves at the bar waiting impatiently for a drink.
“Those dwarfs will be part of the hunt.” Borch says as everyone at the table looks over at them.
“Geralt could handle them in his sleep.” Jaskier adds with chuckle.
Just then a bald headed one rushes the bar and then climbing on top of it grabs the bartender and yells, “He said he wants four fuckin’ pints. Now.” Geralt just shakes his head.
“Or maybe a little bit awake.” Jaskier adds.
“Then there are the Reavers.” Téa says and they glance over to a man who has a whore on his lap. “Have you heard of them Witcher?”
“Yes.” He answers Téa before turning back to Borch and adding, “And the answer is no.”
“You feel it just the same as me… that hole inside you. That itch that can’t be scratched that burns your brain; keeps you awake at night. Come with me. I’ll show you what you’re missing.” Borch whispers leaning across the table to hold Geralt’s attention.
“What am I missing?” Geralt questions his brow furrowing.
“Sorry to interrupt this lovely moment… That’s only three. Where’s the… what’s the fourth team and who are your other two?” Jaskier asks.
Borch turns and lets out a chuckle as he says, “Them.”
Geralt looks up to see a familiar face and his heart starts to race. Her (E/C) eyes meet his and it’s like he’s caught in a trance. How long had it been since he had left her behind in Cintra? Why was she here and why, was she helping with a dragon? She couldn’t possibly fight a dragon. Her powers were amazing, but they only worked on people.
“(Name)!” He hears Jaskier call out from beside him as he instantly jumps up from his chair and runs over to her.
Geralt watches as a bright smile fills her face as she wraps her arms around Jaskier’s neck and holds him tight.
“I’m in.” Geralt replies, his eyes never looking away from her.
“The hunt begins at sunrise.” Borch says as he looks over at his female companions.
Geralt watches as Jaskier motions over to the table where he and the rest of their company are sitting for her to follow but she shakes her head. Confusion fills Jaskier’s face as he slowly turns back to her. She says something to him before she turns to point to the corner of the room. (Name) gives Jaskier a little wave before she turns and walks off to a table in the corner. Geralt’s eyes follow her as she makes her way to someone who was waiting for her.
The figure of a man coming into his vision. He looks away down at his mug as the thought of her having possibly moved on crushing his heart. His mind starts to race at the possibility. If she had moved on then it would be his own fault, but then maybe that would be better for her. She wouldn’t be in as much danger if she was with someone else.
Jaskier sits down next to him and Geralt glances at his friend.
“How is she?” Geralt asks his eyes returning to his mug.
“She seems fine.” He starts then leaning in closer to Geralt adds, “I don’t know what you did to piss her off, but I think you should avoid her for the moment. That is if you want to keep all your extremities.” Jaskier replies making Geralt furrow his brow. “Just a suggestion.”

In My Head - Chapter 16 - Promises
Warnings: arguing; fluff, Angst
Pairings: Geralt X Reader x Bucky ; Bucky X Reader x Geralt ; Geralt x Reader ; Bucky X Reader
(A/N) i know this is short, but the next part is gonna be pretty long. sorry it's taken a while but hopefully they will meet up again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Thor, I need your help.” I say to my friends back as I walk into his room where he was getting prepared for his long journey.
“I though you didn’t want my help.” Thor replies glancing out of the corner of his eyes at me.
I furrow my brow as I think about an argument, we had previously had that had led to a little rift between the two of us. Looking back now it was a stupid argument and I regretted even having it.
“I’m sorry about that. I was being stupid and childish. I shouldn’t have taken my anger out on you.” I apologize making him pause in his movements. “You were right. I shouldn’t have waited so long for someone who clearly doesn’t plan on coming back. He got what he wanted from me, and he left.”
“That’s not what…” he pauses taking a deep breath. “I didn’t say those things to make you feel bad.” Thor replies worry in his voice.
“But you were right.” I add a pained expression filling my face. “Either way I need to find him. With Pavetta gone I can’t protect Ciri alone. I need to find him and ask him if he wants to help me. If not, then… I’m going to take Ciri home with me.”
“You’re gonna take her through the portal?” Thor asks as he turns to look at me and I nod.
“She can learn everything she would ever need to from our group.”
“What about her powers?”
“Tony’s been working on some things that will help her slowly come into them.”
“He’s not a Witcher (Name). Nor is he a mage.”
“No, but he’s willing to help. That’s more that I can say for Geralt.” I let out an annoyed sigh as I move over to sit on Thor’s bed. “What do you think I should do?”
“I’m not going to tell you what to do.” Thor replies and I cover my face with my hands.
“Let me rephrase that, am I doing the right thing?” I ask pulling my hands away. “Raising Ciri the way I am. I want her to be a strong and independent woman who doesn’t need anyone to save her. I want her to be stronger than I am. I refuse to let her end up like me.”
“Have you asked her what she wants?” Thor asks and I nod.
“She wants to be like me, and that’s the last thing I want for her.”
“What’s so wrong with being like you?” Thor asks and I cock an eyebrow at him. “You’re strong, you can handle yourself in a fight, you don’t take shit from anyone, you never give up. Don’t sell yourself short like that.”
“Thank you, Thor. You didn’t have to stay here with me. You could have gone back to our world and gotten on with your life.”
“I like it here. Plus, there’s a woman I fancy here.” Thor replies and I smirk.
“Your lovely sorceress?” I ask and he nods. “When was the last time you saw her?”
“It’s been a while, if I hadn’t left that morning to finish a job for the villages head, I wouldn’t have missed her. I just hope she’s not to upset about it. Yen… is a force to be reckoned with.”
“Yen?” I ask and he nods.
“Yennefer.” Thor replies, a bright smile on his face. “She makes me feel things I thought I had lost when Jane and I decided to separate. With Yen however, its just so much…”
“I understand.” I say making his eyes turn to meet mine his happy expression disappearing at my sad eyes. “I’m so happy you have someone like that.”
“I didn’t mean to rub it in.”
“You didn’t. I am genuinely happy for you, brother.” I conclude and he smiles an unseen weight lifting from his chest.
“Do you want to come with me?” He asks and I nod.
“I need to put an end to this thing between me and Geralt, for both Ciri and my own sakes. So, if you’ll have me, will you allow me to accompany you into the wild?”
“I could use some company.” Thor adds a smile filling his lips. “You just have to tell Ciri.”
“Well shit.”
~~~~
“Ciri my dear, I will be back. I promise.”
“Mother promised as well.” Ciri retorts and I let out a heavy sigh.
“I will have Thor with me. He will make sure nothing happens to me.”
“We don’t need him.” Ciri states and I sigh inwardly. She hadn’t forgiven him for being gone for so long.
“Cirilla,” I start as I kneel until I am eye height with her. “You are completely right, we don’t need him, but I want to give him a chance. I would like some answers to very important questions. I swear to you I will return to you and once I do, I will not leave you again.”
“I will bring her back.” Thor promises and Ciri’s eyes snap to his. “I give you my word princess.”
“If uncle Thor gives his word, then I know he will.” Ciri replies her little shoulders quivering slightly. I knew she was trying to hide how sad she truly was.
“My dear sweet child.” I reach out and wrapping my arms around her pull her in close. “I love you more than you will ever know.”
“I’ll watch over her while you’re gone.” Natasha proclaims and I nod.
My heart was silently breaking at the thought of leaving her behind. She was my child. Even though I didn’t give birth to her she was mine. I felt it deep in my soul. Smoothing her hair back I gently place a kiss on her forehead as I try not to cry. Giving her one more quick squeeze I pull away from her and forcing a smile turn to walk over to my horse.
“Are you sure you still want to do this?” Thor asks from the saddle of his own horse and I shake my head.
“If I don’t go now, I won’t be able to.” I say my voice cracking.
Climbing up into the saddle I turn back to look at Ciri standing next to Natasha, and I force a smile. We are about to leave when Ciri yells out to me.
“Come back soon!” She yells and I flash her a genuine smile.
“I promise.”

In my Head - Chapter 18 - Hirikka
Warnings: arguing; fluff, Angst ; abandonment ; Trust issues
Pairings: Geralt X Reader x Bucky ; Bucky X Reader x Geralt ; Geralt x Reader ; Bucky X Reader
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Thor, I know what I’m doing.” I say as I match him step for step.
“You’ve been looking for him for years and now he’s right here.” Thor replies stopping in his tracks to turn to face me. “You wanted to talk to him. Go on,”
“I can’t” I reply my eyes pleading with him to drop it. “I was so sure of what I wanted to say to him. What I wanted to ask him, but now… now I look at him and I don’t know if I want to jump his bones or murder him.”
“That’s… that’s in my head now.” Thor replies as he grimaces.
“Come on, you know what I mean.” I argue a chuckle leaving my lips.
“I know how you feel.” Thor replies his eyes moving to look at Yennefer.
“She seems nice.” I say softly a smirk filling my lips.
“Stop it.” Thor chastises making me giggle.
“You’re all for me talking to Geralt when you have yet to go over and talk to her. I know you want to.”
“She’s angry with me,” Thor says as he steals a glance at her. “I don’t know how to even go about talking to her.”
“See, we’re in the same boat.”
“Yes, but you have a paddle.” Thor replies motioning toward Jaskier.
“Jaskier is not a paddle.”
“Metaphor, (name).”
“I know what you meant.”
“Talking to women used to be easy for me.” Thor starts as he grips tight to storm breaker. “But after everything, I can’t bring myself to take those last few steps to her.”
“Then you don’t deserver her.” I announce and his eyes narrow. “Just as I probably don’t deserve Geralt.” His eyes shoot to mine, and I feel my heart clench. “What are we doing Thor? We’re adults but we are acting like children. Love… love is stupid.” Tears sting my eyes as I continue. “Love made me break a good man’s heart. Love made me come here to this world in search of someone who clearly didn’t want me to be here to begin with. He whispered words of love and caring, and I ate it up like some love-devoid idiot. The only good thing that came from me being here was Cirilla.”
Thor meets my gaze, and his eyes soften. He reaches out and wrapping his arms around me holds me close.
“What am I still doing here Thor? What in the world do I want him to say to me?”
“I don’t know,” Thor replies gently rubbing circles on my back. “And you won’t know until you talk to him.”
“I will if you will.” I add pulling away from him. “Don’t leave her wondering Thor, give her the answers I may not get from him.” I give him a little shove in her direction, and he reluctantly lets me go. “Go on, I’ll be fine.”
With a quick nod I watch as he goes off after her. A sad smile fills my face as I try my best to hope for a good outcome for him and her. Clearing my throat, I wipe my face and try to compose myself as I look around. I see Geralt looking at me and I narrow my eyes. A feeling of him being able to see right through me starts to set in and I look away.
I came here to talk to him, and I would. Just not right now.
~~~~~~
“You worry that if you blink, you’ll never see her again.” Borch says as he catches up to Geralt as they walk along the path. “You’re in love with her.”
“Or… the danger here isn’t the dragon.”
“That’s why I brought you along, Geralt of Rivia. Nothing scares you.” Borch adds looking forward where (Name) walked beside her brother.
“Huh.” Geralt adds. “Then you don’t know (Name).”
Borch laughs at the joke making Geralt smirk.
“May she be the worst encounter, then.” Borch replies as the continue the grueling walk up the mountainside.
It didn’t take them long to see the destruction the dragon had caused. When Geralt questioned why a dragon would do this Borch immediately answered with how desperate the dragon must have been to do something out of the ordinary. The rest of the walk continues and Jaskier tries his best to seduce Borch’s female companions.
“Ladies, you look famished. Allow me to wander aimlessly into this thicket and retrieve for you… a tasty afternoon treat. Uh…” He continues to mumble as he looks around for something causing the rest of the company to pause in our tracks. “I am hungry. Anyone else hungry?”
Jaskier continues to fumble through the bushes as he searches for anything making Geralt let out an annoyed sigh.
“He’s still all over the place, isn’t he?” Geralt hears (Name) say from beside him and he nods.
“One of his lesser qualities.” Geralt replies making (Name) smile.
“He’s cute. Sometimes. Girls like men who have their cute moments.” She adds making him cock an eyebrow at her in surprise. “What?” She questions narrowing her eyes at him. “You’ve had your cute moments too. Although very few and basically nonexistent.”
“There’s something back here!” Jaskier calls out pulling their attention back to him. “It sort of looks like a fawn.”
“Jaskier…” Geralt calls out in frustration.
“Hello, little fellow. Aren’t you just the cutest…” The animal growls as it starts to stand up to it’s full height making panic fill Jaskier’s body. “Most… terrifying thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Right, run away! Run away! Geralt!” Jaskier runs up and hiding behind him says, “It’s one of your… friends again.”
As it stands up to its full height everyone stares at the poor creature with curious looks.
“What in the name of Bloemenmagde is that?” The dwarf leader asks his eyes widening slowly.
“It’s an hirikka. It’s probably starving. Sheathe your weapons.” Geralt orders and he glances to (Name) standing next to him her eyes were filled with pity. She starts to fumble through her robes looking for something when a roar from the creature draws their attention back to it. Before anyone has a chance to act, a knight from one of the other groups draws his sword and slays the poor creature.
As if killing it wasn’t enough, he just keeps swinging his sword bringing it up and down adding insult to injury. (Name) tenses next to Geralt and he looks at her to see her eyes filled with rage. This wasn’t going to end well.
“For kingdom and glory!” The knight screams out causing a dark-haired mage to rush to his side.
“Sir Eyck!” She calls out as she reaches him. “You could have been killed!”
“He could have been killed?” (Name) says in disbelief moving closer to them and Geralt instantly reaches for her hand trying to stop her. “Did you not see the same creature I did Yennefer?”
‘Wait how did she know the mages name?’ Geralt thinks as he moves to stand right behind her just in case, she needed him. Also, just in case he needed to stop her from using her gifts.
“(Name), can we talk about this later?” Yennefer asks as she looks around at all the dumbfounded faces.
“No, we can’t.” Name pauses for a moment and Geralt realizes that Thor had joined the two of them. “Sir Eyck, you are a knight are you not?”
“I am.” He replies pulling away from Yen’s hands.
“Then you are a piss poor one.”
“(Name)!” Thor interjects trying to stop her from continuing.
“A knight's code of conduct includes mercy, humility, honor, sacrifice, faithfulness, courage, utmost graciousness and courtesy toward women. None of those you have shown by the absolute slaughter you have just committed against a helpless creature. It was hungry. Not deadly. If we would have fed it, it would have went away. So, fuck you Sir.” She ends as she collects her skirt and turns around and stomps away.
Geralt looks back at the absolute dumbfounded look on the knight’s face before he turns to walk away. They decide to set up camp for the night and Geralt watches in disgust as the ‘knight’ decides it’s a smart idea to carve up and eat the creature. (Name) refused to even be near the so-called knight as she makes her camp way away from them.
Geralt couldn’t help but keep glancing at her as she sat with writing utensils in her hands. She must have been drawing the scenery. His mind filled with memories or watching her draw anything that caught her interest.
“Um…” Borch starts pulling his attention. “I’m not sure I’d eat that, good sir.”
“Knights never waste a kill.” Sir Eyck replies with a scoff. “It’s precisely why I’ll make a great lord to Niedamir’s vassal state. A great knight must lead by example. For—”
“Kingdom and glory. We know.” Téa interrupts in hopes of shutting him up.
Thank the gods (Name) wasn’t near enough to hear him spout his bullshit.
“My subjects will be the luckiest serfs in all the lands. Especially with the beautiful Yennefer as my mage.” Sir Eyck continues and Geralt glances at Thor whose jaw was clenched tight.
So that’s how (Name) knew the mage. Thor was a past suitor of hers.
“I cannot wait to serve you, My Lord.” Yennefer replies and Geralt watches as Thor’s eyes fill with anger and regret.
Geralt knew those feelings all to well. Not that he’d ever show them. He regretted being away from (Name) for so long. It wasn’t that he refused to return to her. There were so many monsters on the continent that needed to be dealt with.
“How would you like to serve me tonight… Witch?” The Reaver leader inquires making Thor crush the canteen that was in his hand.
“Watch it.” Thor warns as he stares daggers into the reavers eyes.
“If not the witch, then what about your sister?” He adds and Geralt’s body fills with anger.
“Careful, Boholt.” Geralt interjects causing the reaver to look at him.
“So, the Witcher wants to play knight too, hmm?” Boholt insists his eyes looking over at (Name) who was now moving closer to them.
“No. She’s plenty able of murdering you herself.” Geralt concludes making Thor smirk. Boholt chuckles making the head dwarf ask him a question.
“What’s so amusin’, you overgrown cock hair?” He asks annoyance in his voice.
“I’m just wondering who I will kill first. The monster, or the monster hunter.” Boholt replies as he fiddles with a piece of meat that he pulled from the spicket.
“Hm.” Geralt hums and Boholt takes that as a sign to leave.
A loud gurgling sound fills the campfire and Sir Eyck twitches in his seat.
“Oh, dear.” Sir Eyck says making Jaskier look over at him. “Um… I’m afraid I must take my leave. Lady Yennefer, may I escort you to your tent?”
“Will you be joining me?” She asks seductively making Thor narrow his eyes at her.
“Uh… My Lady, I would…” He is interrupted by his stomach gurgling again. “…never degrade your honor in such a way.”
Before anyone can say anything, Sir Eyck turns and mumbling something about taking a shit, hobbles off.
“I hope he didn’t leave on account of me.” (Name) states sarcastically as she moves to sit in between Thor and Geralt.
“Pretty sure the hirikka is fighting back.” Jaskier answers and she chuckles.
“Serves him right.”
“So shall we tell the poor bastard, that he’s vying for a vassal state that won’t exist in a decade?” Yarpen asks.
“States rise and fall like the tide. Nothing new.” Geralt says his eyes focused on the fire.
“This is fucking new. The rightful son of Nilfgaard has returned, burnin’ through the south.” Yarpen retorts.
“With Fringilla as his mage. Nilfgaard’s a joke.” Yennefer says with a chuckle.
“I saw it with my own eyes down in Ebbing. Those zealot freaks are inching closer by the day. Won’t be long till the try to take Sodden. Next, it’ll be Temeria. Redania. Cintra.” Yarpen States making Geralt’s heart clench at the thought of what could happen to (Name) and Ciri.
“No.” Jaskier interjects, “Queen Calanthe would die before letting them take what’s hers.”
“Perhaps if Nilfgaard’s religious zeal had been tempered earlier by a stronger hand…” Borch starts only to pause and look at Yennefer.
“If you’ll excuse me, I must get my beauty sleep.” Yennefer replies as she stands up and walks away from the fire.
(Name) nudges Thor in the side and he climbs to his feet to follow the mage.
“I don’t think it’ll make me prettier, but I need sleep too.” Yarpen states causing the other dwarves to climb to their feet and follow him.
“So…” Jaskier starts when they’ve left. “We’re about to have new evil overlords, and dragons are, in fact, a thing. Good day all around.” Téa and Véa give out a little chuckle as he finishes. “Oh, you’ve all seen a dragon before, have you? Geralt, will you please tell them?”
“Their numbers are dwindling. Treasure seekers saw to that. But they do exist. What people call ‘Green Dragons,’ like the one we have here, they’re the most common. Red dragons, less so. Black dragons are the rarest.”
“Gold dragons are the rarest.” Borch corrects making Geralt eyeball him.
“Gold dragons are a myth. For a gold dragon to exist, it would… have to be the result of… an accidental, unique mutation. And in my experience, mutations, they’re intentional. But it doesn’t matter. Mutant or myth, gold dragons met the same fate as anything too different to endure. They died out.” Geralt concludes.
“There are other ways of enduring. It it’s legacy you’re after, perhaps you should take the overgrown cock hair’s advice and become a knight.” Borch adds making Jaskier chuckle. “Sir Witcher… the White-Haired… of Rivia. You’d make a rather shitty one, refusing to slay dragons. But probably not as shitty a one as Sir Eyck of Denesle!”
“That’s not true.” (Name) interjects causing Geralt to look over at her. “I believe a good knight is someone who knows the difference between which life to take and which one to spare. I have known Geralt a very long time and he has shown me every time that he chooses to do what he thinks is right. Even if it eventually turns out to be the wrong thing.”
(Name) looks around at the few people still sitting at the fire and shakes her head.
“I think I should get some rest. Goodnight, everyone.”
Geralt was about to follow her when something inside told him not too. So, he continued to sit there unaware that she had wanted him to follow.

(A/N) OMG IT HAS BEEN FOREVER SINCE I’VE POSTED ANYTHING. I’m so sorry to everyone who is waiting for me to finish all my currently on Hiatus works. I haven’t really been in the best place mentally wise since im husband was deployed and i was taking care of two kids and my dogs all by myself. Please bear with me though. Now that he is back and i have some more ‘Me’ time i will start to work on getting things back on track. I've got a few of these chapters written so i hope you all enjoy them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After a while I start to notice that the river has calmed down, and the dwarves paddle along in their barrels with their hands.
“Anything behind us?” Thorin asks and I feel my eyes start to search for him.
“Not that I can see.” Balin replies.
“I think we’ve outrun the orcs.” Bofur calls and I let out a sigh of relief.
“Not for long; we’ve lost the current.” Thorin clarifies and I furrow my brow.
“(Name) is half drown.” Dwalin calls turning to look at me.
“Make for the shore! Come on, let’s go!” Thorin orders and I summon what strength I have left to use my powers to push the barrels to the riverbank. Reaching it they climb out onto a slab of rock jutting out a bit into the river.
“Come on!” Dwalin calls as he helps me out of the water and onto the bank.
When Kili is on the rocks, he falls to his knees in pain from the arrow wound in his thigh; it has been bound with cloth, but blood is seeping through. Bofur looks at him concernedly.
“I’m fine, it’s nothing.” Kili growls covering his wound up.
I lie on the riverbank and take deep breaths as I try to recover my strength.
“On your feet.” I hear Thorin call and I let out an annoyed groan.
“Kili’s wounded. His leg needs binding.” Fili informs his uncle.
“There’s an orc pack on our tail; we keep moving.” Thorin decides.
“To where?” I ask through ragged breaths.
“To the mountain; we’re so close.” Bilbo offers and I roll my eyes. I was in no shape to face a dragon.
“A lake lies between us and that mountain. We have no way to cross it.” Balin clarifies.
“So, then we go around.” Bilbo offers but the dwarves shake their heads.
“The orcs will run us down, as sure as daylight. We have no weapons to defend ourselves.” Dwalin interjects.
“Bind his leg, quickly. You have two minutes.” Thorin tells Bofur.
“I am cold… and I am wet.” I state staring up at the blue sky as a shiver runs through my body.
“You should have stayed with the elves.” Thorin interjects and I feel my anger rise.
“That’s what you wanted me to do. I mean since you were going to leave me there after we already discussed that you wouldn’t.” I reply angrily.
“I only wanted to keep you safe.” He adds and I roll my eyes and force myself to sit up.
“Yeah right,” I add making his brow furrow. “You’ve been looking for a place to get rid of me since we met. Don’t try to justify your actions now.”
Before he has a chance to argue a man sneaks up over the pile of rocks and aims an arrow at Ori. As the dwarves realize a man is there, they jump up, and Dwalin, holding a branch, leaps in front of Ori. He raises the branch and begins to charge the man, but the man shoots his arrow and it embeds itself right in the middle of the branch, between Dwalin’s hands. Kili raises a rock to throw, but the man shoots the rock out of his hand too.
“Do it again, and you’re dead.” The man with dark hair says pulling my attention towards him. Fearing the worst, I push myself to my feet and ready myself for anything.
Balin, who is standing near the edge of the group, sees a barge floating in the river behind the man. He slowly approaches the stranger with his hands held in the air.
“Excuse me, but, uh, you’re from Laketown, if I’m not mistaken? That barge over there, it wouldn’t be available for hire, by any chance?” Balin asks and I watch closely as the man lowers his bow. He turns and walking back the way he had come he climbs aboard his barge as the dwarves approach.
“What makes you think I will help you?” The dark-haired man asks.
“Those boots have seen better days.” Balin says and I look down to see that the man’s boots were very worn out. The man slowly begins loading the dwarves’ empty barrels into his barge as Balin continues, “As has that coat. No doubt you have some hungry mouths to feed. How many bairns?”
“A boy and two girls.” He answers.
“And your wife, I’d imagine she’s a beauty.” Balin states and I see the sadness fill the man’s eyes.
“Aye. She was.” He adds and I feel my heart clench and I suddenly see him in a new light.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to-” Balin starts his smile fading. He is interrupted by Dwalin whispering loudly to Thorin. “Oh, come on, come on, enough with the niceties.”
“What’s your hurry?” The man asks
“What’s it to you?” Dwalin asks narrowing his eyes at the man.
“I would like to know who you are and what you are doing in these lands.” The man inquires as he looks from dwarf to dwarf.
“We are simple merchants from the Blue Mountains journeying to see our kin in the Iron Hills.” Balin implies giving him a slight bow.
“Simple merchants, you say?” The dark-haired man inquires making me roll my eyes at the dwarves lie.
“We’ll need food, supplies, weapons. Can you help us?” Thorin asks stepping forward.
The man’s eyes look at the barrels and examines the various dents and nicks they received during the fight with the orcs.
“I know where these barrels came from.” He says.
“What of it?” Thorin questions.
“I don’t know what business you had with the elves, but I don’t think it ended well. No one enters Laketown but by leave of the Master. All his wealth comes from trade with the Woodland Realm. He will see you in irons before risking the wrath of King Thranduil.” He boards his barge and tosses a rope to Balin.
“Offer him more.” Thorin mouths to Balin.
“I’ll wager there are ways to enter that town unseen.” Balin inquires.
“Aye. But for that, you will need a smuggler.”
“For which we will pay double.” Balin adds causing the man to look at them suspiciously.
After a moment of thought he reluctantly nods and then motions for everyone to climb aboard the barge. He eyes me suspiciously as I follow the dwarves and climb aboard. I give him a forced smile as I move to stand beside Bilbo. I was still a little ticked off at Thorin so I didn’t want to talk to him.
A fog settles upon the water as he pushes us from the shoreline and out into the water. Rubbing my shoulders, I wish I could use my powers to warm my body. If I did that however, they would know and they would look at me differently. I didn’t want that. So, I just sat here next to Bilbo, my arms wrapped tightly around my middle.
A few moments later I hear Bilbo ask the man’s name to learn that it is Bard. Bilbo thanks him for his help in the stead of the dwarves who are on the front of the barge counting their coin to make sure they had enough money to pay him.
“If you do not mind me asking,” I hear Bard ask and I turn to see him looking at me. “What are you doing traveling with a group of dwarves?”
“I’m trying to get home.” I answer honestly.
“Where do you hail from?” He asks.
“Somewhere very far away.” I reply thinking about home and the people there. Surprise fills my body when I realize how long it had been since I thought about Bucky. How was he doing? Did he know I was missing? Did he even care? Now that he had Natasha, he didn’t need me anymore. What hurt the most was that Natasha and I used to be really close. But now… I let out a heavy sigh as I grip tightly to my sides.
“I hope you are able to return there safely, um?” Bard replies and I offer him a sad smile as I meet his honey colored eyes.
“(Name), and I hope I am too.” I reply glancing back out over the water.
The dwarves are off in their own world as the fog slowly begins to thin revealing the Lonely Mountain. Gloin stops talking when he realizes that all the others have slowly stood up and are looking at something in the distance. He turns to see the mountain and quickly gives the rest of his coin to them.
“Bless my beard. Take it. Take all of it.” Gloin says handing Balin a sack of coins he had secretly withheld before. Bilbo coughs and gestures his head toward Bard, who is approaching the dwarves on their end of the barge.
“The money, quick, give it to me.” Bard orders impatiently.
“We’ll pay you when we get our provisions, but not before.” Thorin states making me roll my eyes.
“If you value your freedom, you’ll do as I say. There are guards ahead.” Bard implies making them look forward to see the rooftops of Laketown in the distance. “Get into the barrels.” He orders making me eye the barrels then him.
“I’m not doing that.” I state making them stare at me. “I’m human I can pass for a distant relation of some sort.” Bard stares at me for a moment not sure how to respond.
“Very well, we will say you are a distant relative of my late wife.” Bard says and I nod. He eyes my outfit before continuing. “But they aren’t going to buy that with what you are wearing.”
“I don’t wear dresses.” I add furrowing my brow. He clenches his jaw before he pulls his coat off and hands it to me.
“Here, this should help.” Taking it from him I eye it suspiciously.
“Thank you,” I say as I take the coat and sliding my arms into it am surprised to find how soft it was.
“The rest of you into the barrels.” He orders and I pull the coat closed around my body. I glance out of the corner of my eye to see Thorin eyeing me but I ignore him. I was still angry. I start thinking to myself that maybe I should have stayed with the elves in Mirkwood.
When the dwarves are all secure in their barrels, I turn to Bard who had rejoined me at the back of the barge and ask, “What is the plan?” He smirks as he leans forward to whisper in my ear.
“I’m going to fill the barrels with fish.”
I let out an involuntary snort and my hand shoots up to cover my mouth. They were going to hate this. Bard’s barge is stopped at a dock just outside the city; Bard hops off and speaks to a man. The man looks at me curiously for a moment before he returns to speaking with bard. Bard points back at his barrels while talking to the man. Bard shakes the man’s hands and I bite my lips to try to keep from laughing.
All the dwarves in their individual barrels listen anxiously; suddenly, dead fish are poured into the barrels. The dwarves splutter in surprise. I look away as I try to stifle a giggle. When the barrels are full Bard climbs back onto the barge and pushes it away from the dock and toward the city.
Bard poles the barge toward the gate of the city; on deck are the 14 barrels all full of fish, with a dwarf or hobbit inside as well. I hear the dwarves groan and complain in their barrels causing Bard to kick the barrel closest to him.
“Quiet! We’re approaching the toll gate.” He orders making me stand closer to him worry filling my body.
“Halt! Goods inspection. Papers, please. Oh, it’s you, Bard.” The gatekeeper calls his tone changing when he sees Bard. Bard brings his barge up to the gatekeeper’s office, and the gatekeeper steps out to see him.
“Morning, Percy.” Bard replies moving closer to him.
“Anything to declare?” Percy calls.
“Nothing, but that I am cold and tired, and ready for home.” Bard replies as he hands the gatekeeper some papers.
“You and me both. And Her?” Percy asks motioning to me.
“A distant relation on my wives’ side. She’s come to visit the children.” Bard clarifies making Percy nod.
As the gatekeeper takes the papers and goes into his office to stamp them, Bard looks around warily. Why was he so worried?
“Here we are. All in order.” Percy says as he holds out Bard’s papers, but a man, suddenly steps out of the shadows and grabs the papers.
“Not so fast.” A man says as he comes into view. He reads Bard’s papers, then looks myself and the barrels. “Consignment of empty barrels from the Woodland Realm. Only, they’re not empty, are they, Bard?” He tosses Bard’s papers to the wind and approaches him, with some of Laketown’s soldiers behind him. I notice as Bard tenses in front of me causing me to stand up straight behind him. Thankfully he hadn’t noticed me yet.
“If I recall correctly, you’re licensed as a bargeman, not a fisherman.” The sly man adds as he picks up one of the fish from a barrel and holds it up to Bard. He doesn’t see Bombur’s eyes looking up from the gap where the fish had been. I gulp down a breath of air hoping he was just dumb enough not to notice. In doing so I unwilling call attention to myself. “Who’s this?”
“That’s none of your business.” Bard replies as he moves to stand in between the man and myself.
“Wrong. It’s the Master’s business, which makes it my business.” He replies his eyes looking me up and down. I pull the jacket tighter as I become uncomfortable.
“Oh, come on, Alfrid, have a heart. People need to eat!” Bard yells out pulling the conversation from me back to the fish.
“These fish are illegal.” Alfrid throws the fish he was holding into the water, then commands the soldiers. “Empty the barrels over the side.” The soldiers move to comply.
“You heard him. Into the canal. Come on, get a move on.” One of the soldier’s orders and I feel my heart drop as they begin tipping the barrels over and letting the fish fall into the canal.
“Folk in this town are struggling. Times are hard. Food is scarce.” Bard warns moving closer to Alfrid.
“That’s not my problem.” Alfrid retorts his words full of annoyance.
“And when the people hear the Master is dumping fish back in the lake, when the rioting starts, will it be your problem then?” Bard and Alfrid stare at each other intensely for a few seconds, then finally Alfrid raises his hand to the soldiers.
“Stop.” He orders and I feel my body relax as the soldiers stop tipping the barrels over and return to the buildings. “Ever the people’s champion, eh, Bard? Protector of the common folk? You might have their favor now, bargeman, but it won’t last.” Alfrid glances over at me and I recognize the look in his eyes. I glare at him in return prompting him to walk away.
“Raise the gate!” Percy cries and a large portcullis blocking the channel is raised, and Bard begins to pole his barge through. As he passes, Alfrid turns around and shouts to him.
“The Master has his eye on you; you’d do well to remember. We know where you live.”
“It’s a small town, Alfrid; everyone knows where everyone lives.” Bard replies causing a smirk to fill my lips.
As we move through the channel, I look around at the city of Laketown and it looks quite poor and ramshackle. There are many channels of water throughout the town, through which various boats float. Bard poles his barge down the main channel.
Reaching a dock, Bard poles the barge up to rest at it. After looking around, he knocks over one of the barrels, and a dwarf falls out along with a pile of fish. Bard continues knocking over barrels. He reaches for Dwalin’s barrel, but Dwalin pokes his head up through the fish.
“Get your hands off me.” Dwalin glares making Bard take a step back.
The remaining dwarves and Bilbo struggle out of their barrels, looking greasy and slimy from the fish. I walk over to help them but suddenly catch a whiff of the fishy smell and reach up to cover my nose.
“Dear lord you guys stink.” I say causing them to turn and glare at me.
The dock keeper looks on in shock. Bard approaches him and slips him a coin.
“You didn’t see them; they were never here. The fish you can have for nothing.” He whispers.
“Follow me.” Bard calls as he starts to lead us away through the city.
As we stride through Laketown, a young boy with chocolatey hair runs up to Bard calling, “Da! Our house, it’s being watched.”
Bard looks at Thorin and hatches a plan. As Bard reveals his plan to the dwarves, I glance around at the people of Laketown. My heart went out to them as I saw that they were living in squalor. Who was this Master and why did he apparently live a life of luxury while his people suffered? I bite my tongue as my brow’s nit in anger.
“Come along (Name),” Bard calls to me and I turn to see that Thorin and his group have already disappeared.
I follow Bard and his son, as they lead the way to their house. It doesn’t take us long but just before Bard enters his house, he tosses an apple to one of the fishermen below.
“You can tell the Master that I’m done for the day.” Bard says as he motions me forward into his home. Inside the house, Bard’s daughters, rush over to greet their father.
“Da! Where have you been?” The younger of the two asks quickly followed by the elder.
“Father! There you are. I was worried.” Both daughters run to their father, and they hug. Bard then hands his bag to the eldest as he turns to his son.
“Here’s something to eat. Bain, get them in.” He says and I follow the boy down to where we would meet the dwarves. Upon reaching the room I realize that they are about to come in through the toilet and let out a snort. This was going to be hilarious. I quickly pull my cell phone out of my pocket and with a little hope I turn it on to see that it still works. I give out a silent yay to myself as I turn the camera on and aim it towards the toilet.
After looking around, Bain knocks on the wall near the toilet three times. Dwalin’s head appears through the toilet, which is open to the water below.
“If you speak of this to anyone, I’ll rip your arms off.” Dwalin warns and I cover my mouth to keep from laughing. Dwalin raises the seat and begins to pull himself out of the toilet. Bain reaches out to help him, but Dwalin slaps his hand away. “Get off.”
“Oh, come now, don’t be cross with the boy.” I say a bright smile on my face as he lifts himself out of the toilet to stand beside me.
“Says the one who got to walk here normally.” Dwalin retorts and I shake my head.
“Are you recording this?” Dwalin asks noticing my phone and I instantly shake my head.
“I would never do that.” I reply as I stifle a giggle.
“Up there.” Bain says as he points up the stairs, and Dwalin goes up. Bilbo pokes his head up through the toilet, looking flabbergasted, and Bain helps him out. The rest of the dwarves follow and head upstairs.
“Da... why are there dwarves climbing out of our toilet?” Sigrid asks eyeballing them one by one.
“Will they bring us luck?” The younger daughter asks and I swear it was like my soul left my body I wanted to laugh so bad.
Nori emerges from the toilet with some leaves stuck to his hair and then I notice that Thorin is the last to appear and when our eyes meet, I feel my laughter fade and replace itself with anger. I turn off the recording and sliding the phone into my pocket turn and walk upstairs. I might have temporarily forgotten about them leaving me behind but the feelings of anger and abandonment were still there.
As Bard’s children hand out blankets and wraps to the dwarves, I make my way over to look out the window as the town below. The dwarves start to talk amongst themselves but I do not listen. My mind is a million miles away. How much longer would this last? How much longer would I be with everyone here?
My eyes move to the mountain. It was properly named as it sat alone amongst the night sky. We were almost there, but I couldn’t help the foreboding feeling creeping over me. The dragon weighed heavily on my mind. Thor’s stories always made it seem like defeating a dragon was easy; but would that be the case here?
Only time would tell.
Angel On Fire - Chapter 19 - The Lonely Mountain
Warnings: angst ; fighting ; death
Pairings: Bucky Barnes X Reader ; Thorin Oakenshield X Reader ; Bucky X Reader X Thorin ; Marvel X Reader X Hobbit
Angel on Fire Master-list
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Climbing the foothills of the mountain seemed to go by faster than I thought it would. At one point, Thorin, recognizing the landscape, runs atop an embankment overlooking a valley. We all race after him and joining him look across the valley at the ruins of an old city.
“What is this place?” Bilbos asks voicing my curiosity.
“It was once the city of Dale. Now it is a ruin. The desolation of Smaug.” Balin says and my heart clenches for the lives lost here. Flashes of when Surtur destroyed Asgard flash through my mind causing my lip to tremble slightly at the memory.
“The sun will soon reach midday; let’s find the hidden door into the mountain before it sets. This way!” Thorin calls as he starts to race away.
“Wait...is this the overlook? Gandalf said to meet him here. On no account were we-” Bilbo calls out but none of the dwarves are listening.
“Do you see him? We have no time to wait upon the wizard. We’re on our own.” Thorin interrupts. “Come!”
The other dwarves follow him; but Bilbo and I look back at the city, conflicted.
“We have no choice; we must go with them.” I add turning to follow them. Bilbo waits for a moment then reluctantly follows.
Reaching the mountainside, we start to look for the secret entrance.
“Anything?” Thorin calls out.
“Nothing!” Dwalin replies.
“If the map is true, the hidden door lies directly above us.” Thorin says softly.
Bilbo, walking around, sees a massive statue of a dwarf carved into the side of the mountain. Looking closely, he notices a set of stairs built into the statue.
“Up here!” Bilbo calls out making us all look toward him.
“You have keen eyes, Master Baggins.” Thorin calls.
We painstakingly make our way up the steep and treacherous steps and find a little rock-walled clearing in the side of the mountain. Thorin runs to the clearing.
“This must be it. The hidden door.” Thorin exclaims. “Let all those who doubted us rue this day!” Thorin holds up his key, the others cheer.
“Right. We have our key, which means that somewhere, there is a keyhole.” Dwalin says as they all start to explore the walls of the clearing with their fingers, looking for a keyhole. Thorin walks to the edge of the clearing and looks out at the setting sun.
“The last light of Durin’s Day will shine upon the keyhole.” Thorin ponders.
Thorin looks at the wall and tries to figure out what the light hitting the wall means. As the sun gets lower and lower on the horizon and nothing changes on the wall, Thorin begins to get frantic. “Nori.”
Nori, who is known as a thief, runs to the wall and begins tapping it in different places with a spoon while holding his ear to a cup held against the wall. Meanwhile, Dwalin strains and pushes against the wall. The sun gets lower.
“We’re losing the light.” Thorin yells out panic in his voice.
“Come on!” Dwalin cries out as he begins kicking at the wall.
“Be quiet! I can’t hear when you’re thumping.” Nori yells at Dwalin.
“I can’t find it...it’s not here! It’s not here.” Dwalin panics.
As the sun gets closer to disappearing, Thorin frantically gestures to the other dwarves.
“Break it down!” Thorin yells out causing Dwalin, Gloin, and Bifur smash at the wall with their weapons, to no avail. “Come on!”
“It’s no good! The doors sealed. It can’t be opened by force. Powerful magic on it.” Balin says and the dwarves hitting the door drop their weapons in tiredness and in disappointment. The sun disappears behind distant mountains.
“No!” Thorin cries as he stumbles forward and re-examines the old map, reading aloud. “The last light of Durin’s Day will shine upon the keyhole. That’s what it says.” He holds his arms open is disbelief, the other dwarves mutter in disappointment and anger. “What did we miss?” Thorin walks up to Balin and repeats his question, earnestly and tearfully. “What did we miss, Balin?”
“We’ve lost the light. There’s no more to be done. We had but one chance.” Balin says and I feel tears sting my eyes at their loss. The dwarves bow their heads in despair and turn back toward the stairs. “Come away; it’s...it’s over.”
“Wait a minute!” Bilbo cries out as we watch them turn and head back down the stairs. “Where are they going? You can’t give up now!”
Bilbo looks beseechingly at Thorin, but Thorin turns away. He holds up his key and looks at it, then drops it to the ground, where it clatters.
“Thorin...you can’t give up now.” I say moving closer to him.
Thorin throws the map at Bilbo’s chest and walks past him. I give Bilbo an apologetic look as I quickly follow after Thorin.
“Thorin, I know how you must be feeling, but maybe Bilbo is right.”
“You know nothing of my pain.”
“Do I not?” I argue anger filling my voice. “You forget, I lost my home too. I will never ever be able to get it back.” Tears sting my eyes as I continue, “You have a chance, give Bilbo a chance to figure this out. please, do not give up.”
Thorin turns to face me and for a moment, and thanks to the stairs, he is taller than me. His deep blue eyes find mine and he looks broken.
“Thorin, you haven’t failed until you give up.” I close the distance taking his hands in mine. “Thorin, I care for you, and I want you to be happy. Turning around and leaving, will not make you happy.”
Thorin pulls his hands from mine and reaching up gently cups my face.
“I do not know if I can take anymore loss.” Thorin whispers and I lean into his touch.
“Thorin,” I start about to lay my secret bare. “There is something I’ve been hiding from you. Something you should know.”
“What is it?” He inquires.
Before I have a chance to tell him I hear Bilbo cry out.
“The keyhole! Come back! Come back! It’s the light of the moon, the last moon of autumn! Ha ha ha!”
Thorin’s eyes widen with newfound hope. We instantly turn and race back up the stairs. When we round the corner, Bilbo is looking frantically around on the ground in the clearing for the key, suddenly, his foot hits it and it goes flying from the clearing. Just before it falls off the side of the mountain, a boot steps on the string and stops it. It is Thorin. Bilbo sighs in relief. Thorin slowly reaches down and picks up the key, then examines it. The other dwarves step up beside him. They all smile in relief at Bilbo.
Thorin inserts the key into the keyhole and turns it; mechanisms are heard turning behind the rock. Thorin pushes the wall, and a previously unseen door opens into the mountain. The seams of the door were completely invisible earlier. The door opens into a tunnel going into the mountain. The dwarves look on it awe as Thorin stands on the threshold.
“Erebor.” Thorin breathes as he takes a step inside.
“Thorin…” Balin chokes up, and Thorin puts a hand on his shoulder.
“I know these walls…these walls, this stone. You remember it, Balin. Chambers filled with golden light.” As he says this, Thorin runs his hands over the walls, lost in memory. Balin steps into the tunnel.
“I remember.” Balin adds.
The rest of the Company slowly and reverently enters the mountain. Inside, Nori points at a carving in the wall above the door; it is of the throne of Erebor, with a bright jewel above it, sending out rays of light in all directions. Gloin reads aloud the inscription on the carving.
“Herein lies the seventh kingdom of Durin’s Folk. May the heart of the mountain unite all dwarves in defense of this home.”
Bilbo looks at the carving in interest and curiosity. Balin explains it to him. “The throne of the king.”
“Oh. And what’s that above it?” Bilbo asks.
“The Arkenstone.”
“Arkenstone… And what’s that?”
“That, Master Burglar, is why you are here.” Thorin concludes and my brow furrows. All the dwarves look at Bilbo, and he looks bewildered, but resolute.
“Wait, you’re making him go in alone?” I question making them all turn toward me.
“Bilbo knows what he’s doing.” Thorin exclaims.
“It a fucking dragon Thorin.” I argue my eyes widening slightly.
“It’s okay (Name), I can do this.” Bilbo interrupts and I shake my head.
I go to argue but he cuts me off with a smile. My stomach twists and turns as a bad feeling washes over me. Bilbo quietly walks through a large doorway and disappears into the mountain. I wait for a while but then I can’t take it anymore.
“I’m going after him.” I say as I start toward the entryway.
“No, you’ll stay here.” Thorin orders as he grabs my arm holding me back.
The ground starts to shake, and panic feels my body.
“Was that an earthquake?” Dori asks.
“That, my lad...was a dragon.” Balin answers and I furrow my brow.
I feel heat coming from the doorway and I turn to see an orange glow from the mountain coming through the door.
“What about Bilbo?” Ori asks and I clench my fists.
“Give him more time.” Thorin orders and I stare daggers at him.
“Time to do what? To be killed?” I argue angrily hating every second I cannot go to help Bilbo.
“You’re afraid.” Thorin retorts and I scoff shaking my head.
Balin steps in between us causing Thorin to turn toward him.
“I fear for YOU. A sickness lies upon that treasure hoard, a sickness that drove your grandfather mad.” Balin says making Thorin’s brow furrow.
“I am not my grandfather.”
“You’re not yourself. The Thorin I know would not hesitate to go in there-”
“I will not risk this quest for the life of one burglar.”
Balin looks at Thorin disgustedly.
“Bilbo.” I start disappointment in my eyes. “His name is Bilbo.”
Thorin looks contemplatively out into the night.
“I’m going, and you cannot stop me.” I say reaching up to pull his hand from my arm. “There is only one person here who can handle that dragon.” I pause fire filling my eyes. “And it’s me.”
Thorin snaps back to look at me, but I am already racing down the halls. I hear him call after me, but I don’t turn around. I follow the heat and flicker of orange light. After a few turns I make it to the grand hall. If I hadn’t grown up in a kingdom of golden castles the mass of gold would have stunned me to silence. There was so much gold, rivers of it flowed around the old emerald stone columns.
“You have been used, thief in the shadows. You were only ever a means to an end. The coward Oakenshield has weighed the value of your life and found it worth nothing.” I hear a deep voice speak and I turn to see a massive dragon. He was nothing like the stories Thor had told of the dragons he had killed.
“No. No. No, you’re lying!” I hear Bilbo cry out and I search for him. I find him below a pillar a white gem shining a few feet away from him.
“What did he promise you? A share of the treasure? As if it was his to give. I will not part with a single coin. Not one piece of it.”
Bilbo, hearing that Smaug is on top of the structure, seeks the Arkenstone lying a few feet away from the structure and makes a run for it. Smaug sees him and whips his tail, sending Bilbo, the Arkenstone, and gold flying. Bilbo tumbles and lands against a pillar.
“My teeth are swords! My claws are spears! My wings are a hurricane!”
As Smaug displays his wings, Bilbo notices a scale missing on the left side of Smaug’s chest. He whispers to himself.
“So, it is true. The black arrow found its mark.” Bilbo says and I narrow my eyes to try to follow his gaze.
“What did you say??” Smaug questions.
“Uh, uh, I was just saying your reputation precedes you, oh Smaug the tyrannical. Truly, you have no equal on this earth.”
As Bilbo speaks, he slowly backs up. He is standing in a bare, open spot, and Smaug faces him. As he finishes speaking, Bilbo looks down and sees the Arkenstone lying just a few feet from him, and he gazes at it.
“I am almost tempted to let you take it, if only to see Oakenshield suffer, watch it destroy him, watch it corrupt his heart and drive him mad.”
Bilbo and Smaug face off, Bilbo pants. Then Smaug begins to rear his head.
“But I think not. I think our little game ends here. So, tell me, thief, how do you choose to die?”
Right before Smaug’s head streaks forward I yell out, “Hey!”
Smaug’s head snaps towards me as a low rumble emanates from his throat.
“You…” Smaug pauses a low rumble in his voice. “I was told you were coming.” Smaug speaks his voice reverberating off the walls.
“Well, here I am.” I reply glancing out of the corner of my eyes to see Bilbo going after the Arkenstone.
“He’s been waiting for you.” Smaug adds and I narrow my eyes at him.
“Well, he can keep waiting. I want nothing to do with him.”
“Like you have a choice.” Smaug says as he inches closer to me.
“I choose my own destiny. I’m no one’s pawn.” I cry back as my skin starts to turn orange as fire emanates from within me. “I am the goddess of Elements. Daughter of Odin. Princess of Asgard. And you… you’re pissing me off.”
Smaug lets out a loud roar, dragon fire emanating from his throat as it passes around me. I smile as I feel nothing. His fire stops and his eyes fill with surprise.
“My turn.” I say reaching forward with my hand letting the fire of my soul flow from me like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
~~~~~~~~
Thorin races through the halls after (Name), he was a fool to let her follow Bilbo. He charges with his sword out through the tunnels and stops as flames light up the walls of the tunnel. He runs out onto the same overhang Bilbo had earlier reached, then stops abruptly when he sees the mountain of treasure all around him. He breathes heavily. Just then, Bilbo runs up to him.
“You’re alive!” Thorin cries out in surprise.
“Not for much longer!” Bilbo replies as he nears him.
“Where’s (Name)?!” Thorin questions making Bilbo pause.
“I don’t know, she was there one moment and then...” Bilbo looks away as he tries to find the right words to say.
They are both standing at the entrance to the tunnel, but Thorin is blocking Bilbo’s way. They pause and look at each other for several seconds, then Thorin speaks again, more quietly.
“Then what?” Thorin inquires his anger growing. “Where is she?!”
They stare at each other for several seconds, panting heavily.
“I don’t know. We have to get out. I’m sure she can take care of herself.”
Bilbo tries to enter the tunnel, but Thorin swings his sword across it, blocking the entrance. He presses the blade against Bilbo, and Bilbo stumbles back, the sword still touching him. Bilbo and Thorin face each other, with the tip of Thorin’s sword against Bilbo’s chest.
“Thorin. Thorin!” Bilbo cries out.
“I will not leave without (Name) and the Arkenstone.”
Thorin steps forward, forcing Bilbo to step back. Bilbo’s eyes are open in fear, and Thorin’s face is steel and blank of emotion. Suddenly, Bilbo looks off to the side, and Thorin hears a sound in that direction. He turns and sees Smaug approaching over the mountain of treasure. Smaug, recognizing Thorin, snarls. Suddenly, the remaining dwarves run out of the tunnel and face Smaug, their weapons out. Smaug roars and rushes at them; his chest and neck glow orange.
“You will burn!” Smaug cries out. Just as Smaug bellows fire at them, the dwarves and Bilbo turn and jump off the staircase. They tumble down the pile of treasure and land near the entrance to another tunnel, which they run into.
“Stay away from my friends!” Thorin hears (Name) shout and turns back to see her floating in the air.
He stares at her for a moment completely shocked at what he was now seeing.
“Thorin, Run!” She cries out as she puts herself between him and Smaug shielding him from the dragon fire.
Millions of thoughts started to race through his head. What was she? Why had she hidden this from him? Was she even who he thought she was? Whom he cared for? Who was she?
“Thorin, please, go!” she cries again as she turns to look at him her (E/C) eyes pleading with him to run.
“Not without you.” He replies making her brow furrow as sadness fills her eyes.
Shaking her head, she pushes him into a room right as angrily, Smaug breathes fire in all directions. Thorin, the last one in the door, is pushed in by the force of the flames. He runs into the room at the other end of the tunnel with the back of his coat on fire, and he throws himself on the ground and rolls to extinguish the flames. He jumps back up.
He glances back the way he had come confusion and panic on his face. Shaking his head, he pushes his concerns about (Name) away as he focuses on getting his kin and Bilbo to safety.
“Come on.” He calls as he starts to run forward. With Smaug roaring in the background fighting with (Name), they run.
~~~
I take a moment to hide from Smaug. My body was slowly starting to tire out. My chest heaved as my body ached from the sudden exertion of my powers. I stumble forward down a walkway as I try to find a place to take a break. Suddenly, there are footsteps. The dwarves emerge out of a tunnel and approach the stone bridge I am on. My eyes meet Thorin’s, and he instantly sneaks over to me and takes me in his arms.
“Are you alright?” He questions his hand reaching to tilt my chin up.
“I’m tired.” I answer honestly my body swaying.
“I have you.” He replies supporting me as best as he could.
“Where to now?” Bilbo whispers to Thorin.
“The western guardroom. There may be a way out.” Thorin replies escorting me forward.
“It’s too high. There’s no chance that way.” Balin counters shaking his head.
“It’s our only chance. We have to try.” Thorin concludes.
“I can distract him.” I offer making Thorin’s grip on my body tighten.
“No, you’ve done enough.”
Quietly, we tiptoe across the bridge, looking all about. Suddenly, a coin falls to the floor right in front of Bilbo and rings loudly. They all freeze and look at Bilbo, who frantically checks his jacket to see if some coin had been stuck in a fold. Hearing another coin fall, they look up and see Smaug crawling just above them, looking for them. He hasn’t seen them. The coins that fell came from his chest and arms, where several coins and gems have embedded themselves after years of him sleeping on them. Thorin motions for them to keep moving.
We stealthily make our way to the western guardroom. Stopping occasionally to hide from Smaug. Upon reaching the guardroom Thorin calls out, “Stay close.” They all stop abruptly when they see that the guardroom is full of rotted, dust- and cobweb-covered corpses. My hand shoots to my mouth as a shocked gasp escapes my lips.
“That’s it, then. There’s no way out.” Dwalin says but my eyes are focused on the mummified remains.
It seems like a landslide, or something; has blocked the exit, trapping the dwarves in the past in the room to die.
“The last of our kin. They must have come here, hoping beyond hope. We could try to reach the Mines. We might last a few days.” Balin suggests.
“No. I will not die like this. Cowering, clawing for breath. We make for the forges.” Thorin decides.
“He’ll see us, sure as death.” Dwalin adds helping me pull my eyes from the bodies to look at him.
“Not if we split up.” Thorin adds and I grimace at a sudden shot of pain in my side.
“Thorin, we’ll never make it.” Balin says hopelessness filling his face.
“Some of us might. Lead him to the forges. We kill the dragon. If this is to end in fire, then we will all burn together.” Thorin announces and I see the light return to his kin’s eyes.
“I can help.” I say pushing myself to my feet.
“You’re in no shape to fight.” Thorin rebuts but I shake my head.
“I can distract him; give you guys a clear shot to the forge.”
“I cannot ask that of you.” Thorin says softly as he leans down toward my ear.
“You don’t have too. I will protect you. All of you.” I conclude causing worry to fill his eyes. “There’s something I must tell you all.” I pause for a moment unsure of how telling them my secret would go. “Where I’m from there are people with gifts, I happen to be one of those few people. You might have noticed from before, but I can control the elements. Fire, water, earth, and air. All of it bends to my will.”
“That’s why Smaug’s fire didn’t harm you.” Bilbo breathes as he looks from the ground up to me.
“Fire cannot harm me. No matter how hot it is.” I add as I nod. “I’m sorry I waited this long to tell you all this. I just have a history of people reacting badly when I’ve told them.”
“I’m sorry you felt you had to hide this from us lass.” Dwalin says and I feel my heart lift in my chest.
I glance over to Thorin whose eyes are filled with deep thought and I gulp down a breath of air, “Let me do this. I can distract him long enough for you all to get where you need to be.”
Thorin nods and I give his arm a quick squeeze before I pull away from him and turning to our companions say, “Be careful.”
“Good luck lass.” Dwalin says and I nod.
Turning I head back the way we had come only to feel someone following behind me. I turn to see that it was Thorin.
“Thorin?”
“Don’t die, promise me, you won’t die.”
I open my mouth to argue but decide against it. I lean forward and placing a kiss on his cheek say, “I’ll be fine.”

Getting Smaug to follow me to the forge was simple. Insult his ego and that would do the trick. It was surprisingly easy to do. Calling to wind I use the breeze to lift myself up into the air so that I am floating high enough above the ground so that if I needed to get away quickly I could.
“Where are you little insect?” I hear Smaug call out and I smile mischievously.
“Now that’s just rude, I never called you any names.” I retort as I slink behind a column.
“Why do you help the dwarves? He will betray you; you know this.” Smaug growls his voice inching closer to me.
“He wouldn’t be the first, and I doubt he’ll be the last.” I add my mind drifting to think of Bucky. “I’m starting to think I should just switch to women permanently. They’re nicer to be around anyway, and the sex is pretty amazing.”
“You didn’t answer my question, Princess.” Smaug adds and I narrow my eyes.
“I don’t see a need too. I’m just helping them with what they need.” I reply as I watch Thorin, and the rest of the company sneak through a large hallway. Balin turns into a side tunnel, but Thorin continues forward with Bilbo at his heels.
“Don’t you wish to return home?” Smaug asks I feel my heart clench. “I know the one who can help you.”
Thorin hearing Smaug’s words is distracted from his current mission and stops in his steps. He turns towards me, and our eyes meet.
“Is it the same one who wants me for his own selfish desires? Cause if so, I hate to break it to you, but I don’t negotiate with evil dictators.”
Thorin turns and begins to go back to Bilbo and Balin but stops suddenly. They all see Smaug at the end of the hallway. He had taken the opening from our talk to sniff out the dwarves. Thorin yells at Bilbo to follow Balin. I rush forward and place myself between them. Balin pulls Bilbo into the side tunnel just as Smaug’s chest glows orange and he unleashes his fire throughout the hall.
Thorin runs the other way and leaps into the air, falling into a deep pit. He catches onto a chain with a bucket at the end of it, and it begins descending just as Smaug rushes past me and leaps into the pit as well. Smaug claws his way down the tunnel, snapping at Thorin on the chain.
I race to the pit as Dwalin runs up beside me. He yells after him into the pit and I look around for something to help get him out. Dwalin smashes his axe into the machinery holding the chain Thorin is holding on to, and the chain stops descending abruptly. Beside Dwalin, a heavy holding bucket on the other end of the same chain begins descending rapidly, causing Thorin’s chain to fly upward.
I hold my hand out and calling earth send out a fist of rock that wraps around Smaug’s mouth holding it closed as Thorin soars upward, narrowly missing Smaug’s head. Nori, at the top of the pit, hits another machine, and its gears spin rapidly, pulling Thorin on his chain rapidly upward. Smaug thrashes wildly against my stone grasp causing the earth to crumble around him. Smaug roars and blows smoke straight up the pit after Thorin. Thorin manages to reach the top and throw himself on a ledge just as the fire erupts beside him. I place myself between him and the pit letting my body absorb the fire.
“Go! Go!” I yell out as I feel my body start to become overwhelmed by the sudden overuse of my powers.
Thorin and Nori run through narrow slits between tall, stone pillars and join the other dwarves and Bilbo. They are standing in front of several massive dwarf furnaces, each at least 10 yards high.
“The plan’s not going to work. These furnaces are stone cold.” Dwalin cries out as I move over to stand near them my body burning hot.
“He’s right; there’s no fire hot enough to set them ablaze.” Balin adds and I eye the forge.
The furnaces are all dark, with no sign of fire within. Thorin turns to look at me and I know what he’s thinking.
“Isn’t there?” I ask as I move toward them. I stumble a little and he reaches out to catch me.
“You don’t have to do this, you’re exhausted.”
“You’re right I am, but I have to do this.” I wince as pull out of his grasp. “You might want to hide behind something.” I warn as my body is covered in fire.
They all rush behind pillars just as the fire exploded from within me. The fire goes past the pillars and reaches all the way to the furnaces. The dwarves and Bilbo, though not in the direct path of the fire, yell from the pain, heat, and pressure. Fire suddenly comes out of the bottoms of the furnaces, and they begin glowing and working. Smaug growls in confusion and anger as his head pops out of the pit behind them.
I fall to my knees my vision starting to get blurry as I look around for anything to hold on too. The dwarves run from the pillars as Smaug begins battering at them with his head. They are immensely strong, like a latticework of metal, but they begin to bend under Smaug’s tremendous strength.
“Bombur! Get those bellows working. Go!” Thorin calls out as he runs to my side and lifts me to my feet.
Bombur runs and leaps onto a chain next to a forge. The chain slides down with his weight, and he lands on the handle of a massive bellows. The bellows compress and blast air into the furnace, which exhumes bright blue flames. On top of the furnaces is a massive pile of unrefined gold, at least 10 yards in diameter. Thorin turns and sees the latticework continue to bend from Smaug’s bashing.
“Bilbo! Up there, on my mark, pull that lever.” Thorin calls as he points Bilbo toward a lever high up on a mound, and Bilbo runs toward it. The dwarves run toward the forges as the latticework begins to break. Thorin grabs Balin. “Balin, can you still make some flash-flame?”
“Aye. It’ll only take a jiffy.” Balin replies as he grabs some of the other dwarves to help him. “Come on!”
“We don’t have a jiffy.” Dwalin calls out as he looks at the latticework, which is bending dangerously from Smaug’s blows.
“Take her with you.” Thorin orders as he hands me over to Dwalin.
“I’m fine I just need a moment.” I retort as I take a deep breath.
Under the force of Smaug’s onslaught, the latticework finally gives way and falls to the ground. Smaug storms into the furnace room. He looks about, growling. In a storage room nearby, Balin and some other dwarves frantically mix various powders into jars to make flash-flame bombs. Bilbo clambers up some steps and reaches the lever mounted high on a tower; Smaug begins walking toward him.
Smaug raises his head to look at Bilbo, then looks to the side and sees Thorin standing there. Smaug turns and snarls at Thorin, and Thorin yells to Bilbo. “Now!”
Bilbo jumps into the air and pulls down on the lever just as Smaug lunges toward Thorin. Huge jets of water burst out of carved faces in the wall behind Bilbo and slam into Smaug, knocking him off balance and quenching the flames he was beginning to blow at Thorin. Smaug slides into the side of a furnace from the force of the water, and the glow in his chest disappears.
Roaring in rage, Smaug flaps into the air and begins thrashing about madly. The jets of water cause a watermill to begin turning some gears, which causes the various rope conveyor belts to begin operating. Some of them are full of heavy chunks of rock and ore.
Smaug begins crawling toward Thorin again. Above him, Gloin and Bifur have arrived on the bucket conveyor belt. As Bilbo begins to climb down the mound, Smaug approaches Thorin. Suddenly, there is a flash of blue light on the side of his head. Balin, Ori, and Dori are throwing flash-flame bombs at Smaug. However, Smaug is not at all fazed by them and continues toward Thorin. Above Smaug, Gloin raises his axe and cuts the rope of the conveyor belt full of heavy rocks below him, dropping tons of rocks on Smaug and making him fall to the ground, roaring.
The gold atop the furnaces is completely melted now. Thorin runs over to a furnace and pulls on a chain, opening a gate which allows the molten gold to flow out of the furnaces and through troughs built into the ground. Smaug, tangled in the ropes of the conveyor belt, thrashes about and hits the rope of the conveyor belt Gloin and Bifur are in, breaking it and knocking it to the floor.
They miraculously land on the ground unhurt. Beneath Smaug, rivers of molten gold flow through the troughs on the floor.
“Lead him to the Gallery of the Kings!” Thorin turns and begins running, shouting back at the dwarves.
As Smaug thrashes about, one of the heavy metal buckets tangled on him goes flying toward Bilbo on top of the mound. Bilbo yells and ducks, and the bucket misses him but takes large chunks out of the wall.
Thorin grabs a wheelbarrow and runs while pushing it, dodging Smaug’s thrashing limbs. Smaug’s tail smashes into the base of the mound, cracking it and worrying Bilbo. Thorin throws the wheelbarrow into a channel of gold and leaps into the wheelbarrow; it floats on the gold and is carried along. Seeing this, Smaug roars and whips his head around, finally getting rid of the ropes and buckets tangled around him. He stomps over to a small entrance at the base of the mound where all the troughs of liquid gold join and lead out of the room. Before he can get to Thorin, Thorin on his wheelbarrow floats through the entrance, just as the mound collapses and Bilbo falls. He manages to hit the ground rolling. Smaug sees Bilbo and snarls. Thorin turns his head back and yells for Bilbo to run.
“Bilbo!” I cry out as I push away from Dwalin and force myself to run toward the water.
Bilbo takes off running with Smaug in pursuit. I reach out and taking a deep breath call for the water to heed my bidding. It swirls around my body like a serpent until it takes the form of a giant water dragon. Smaug pauses his assault for a moment to roar angrily at it.
“I will not let you hurt anyone else.” I growl out angrily my voice echoing through the water serpents’ lips like a deadly threat. Throwing my arms forward the serpent takes on a mind of its own and coils dangerously around Smaug trying to douse his inner flame. Bilbo leaps onto a large stone slide and I move over to follow him. Smaug fights chaotically with the serpent demolishing all the stone structures nearby with his wings.
Bilbo and I, running from Smaug and the water serpents fight, run through a doorway and into a massive hall adorned with banners hundreds of feet tall. Just as he runs in, the wall above the doorway explodes as Smaug Is slammed through it by the water serpent. Bilbo runs frantically from the flying rocks but is caught beneath the cloth of a falling banner and knocked to the floor.
The serpent lets out a victorious roar as Smaug leaps to the floor and shouts angrily.
“You think you could win against me?” He yells as his eyes turn to focus on me. The serpent coiling protectively around me.
“I may not be able to hurt you, but you have come from Laketown. There is- is some sort of scheme hatched between these filthy dwarves and those miserable cup-trading Lakemen. Those sniveling cowards with their longbows and black arrows!” Smaug is talking to himself, and his voice breaks in both anger and fear when he mentions the black arrows. “Perhaps it is time I paid them a visit.”
Smaug turns to go to Laketown, and fear fills my body.
“No, you can’t!” I yell out as I rush after him, his sudden realization breaking my concentration and the water serpent dissipates from around me to nothing but a puddle by my feet. “This isn’t their fault! Wait! You cannot go to Laketown.”
Hearing this, Smaug stops for a moment, then turns toward me, who is running after him.
“You care about them, do you? Good. Then you can watch them die.” Smaug turns and strides off down the hall. Suddenly, a voice sounds from one end of the hall, where there is a massive stone structure that looks roughly like a dwarf. The voice is Thorin’s; he is standing atop the structure.
“Here, you witless worm!”
Smaug stops in his track, snarling and squinting in anger. He then turns toward Thorin.
“You.” Smaug growls his eyes narrowing at Thorin.
“I am taking back what you stole.”
“You would take nothing from me, Dwarf. I laid low your warriors of old. I instilled terror in the hearts of men. I am King under the Mountain.” His head is level with Thorin now; Bilbo and I watch from an adjoining hall.
“This is not your kingdom. These are dwarf lands, this is dwarf gold, and we will have our revenge.”
Unseen by Smaug, there are chains attached to various places on the back of the stone dwarf structure Thorin is standing on, and the ends of these chains are held by the other dwarves. As Thorin speaks, Smaug’s chest and neck glow with fire, and Thorin slowly reaches up toward a rope above him. Just as Smaug opens his mouth, Thorin yells something in Khuzdul.
Thorin yanks on the rope, and a pin behind the stone falls out, releasing heavy wooden bands and chains that had been wrapped tightly around the stone. Smaug rears his head in confusion. The other dwarves pull mightily on their chains, and more pins like the first are pulled out of the stone. The stone structure, which is now revealed to be the mold into which the liquid gold from earlier poured into, falls apart and reveals a massive statue of a dwarf king, made entirely out of solid gold. Thorin swings away on a rope to escape the falling rocks. Smaug looks at the golden statue, which is even larger than him, in awe and desire. As he approaches it, his mouth opens slightly in greed.
Suddenly, the gold around the statue’s eyes warps and then explodes into liquid; the gold in the statue had not yet fully solidified, and the entire statue collapses and explodes into burning hot liquid. Smaug roars in anger as the statue melts, and scrabbles backward to escape the gold. However, he cannot move fast enough and the tidal wave of gold hits him and knocks him over. As he roars, he is entirely smothered and drowned in the gold, which fills the entire hall in a layer several feet deep.
The gold settles, and no sign of Smaug is seen. The dwarves begin to smile in joy, but suddenly, the surface of the golden lake explodes as Smaug leaps out. He is entirely covered in gold, and he screams in anger and pain.
“Ahh! Revenge?! Revenge! I will show you REVENGE!” Smaug yells out as he runs down the hallway and takes off in flight. The mountain breaks as an enraged Smaug smashes his way out. He flaps his wing and lifts off into the sky, spinning and causing the remaining gold on him to fall off in a golden shimmer. He swoops off toward Laketown.
Watching him fly away, Bilbo despairingly pants and looks on in shock. “What have we done?”
I go to follow him when Thorin grabs my arm. I look at his hand before my eyes meet his.
“Let me go! They can’t handle a dragon. They’ll be slaughtered and it’s all our fault.”
“You can barely keep yourself standing. You’re in no condition to fight anymore.” Thorin replies and I go to pull away only to feel the world swirl around me. I had overdone it. My body was spent. I couldn’t do anything but watch as Smaug flew off to murder innocent people.
“I won’t sit here and do nothing.” I start again but this time when I went to pull away, I collapse to the ground completely exhausted.

Angel On Fire - Chapter 18 - Laketown
Warnings: angst ; fighting ;
Pairings: Bucky Barnes X Reader ; Thorin Oakenshield X Reader ; Bucky X Reader X Thorin ; Marvel X Reader X Hobbit
Angel on Fire Master-list
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thor narrows his eyes at the blonde elf as he stands inches from him bow drawn back to fire. There was also a red headed female elf standing toe to toe with Loki. “You might not understand me, but we are not looking for a fight.” Thor pauses a moment as he holds his hands up in surrender. “I am looking for my sister. She’s about (Your height) tall, (Your H/C) hair.” The blonde’s eyes widen slightly and as he lowers his bow.
“I think he’s seen her.” Loki adds making Thor’s heart lift in his chest.
“Are you Thor?” The blonde elf asks and Thor nods.
“I am.” Thor removes his hand from his sword as he continues. “And you are?”
“I am Legolas, this is Tauriel, we are friends of (Name)’s. I am afraid you have just missed her.” Legolas adds making Thor mentally kick himself. “She disappeared with a group of escaped prisoners not long ago. We were just in pursuit of them.”
“May we accompany you?” Loki asks causing Legolas to nod. Tauriel sheathes her sword and without so much as a word turns and heads off into the woods with Legolas and them close behind her.
“Thor,” Loki says making his brother turn toward him. “What if she doesn’t want to go back?”
Thor pauses for only a moment his mind racing at the thought. He quickly starts moving again so he doesn’t lose his Elven guides.
“She belongs home, with us.” Thor answers.
“But we don’t have a home, not anymore.” Loki adds and Thor feels his heart clench.
“Then she belongs on Earth with us. This isn’t her world. These aren’t her people. You forget brother, we know how this story will end. I will not have her stay here and watch people she cares for die. Not again.” Thor concludes making Loki wince.
Losing Asgard had been hard for everyone, but no one hurt as much as (Name) did. There were many nights when Thor would hear (Name) crying about how it was her fault. How darkness and death followed her and claimed everything she loved and held dear. It wasn’t her fault, both Thor and Loki always made sure to remind her that it wasn’t. That she was an innocent person that bad things had happened too.
“I won’t let her stay, Loki. I can’t lose her too.”
“I know, Thor.” Loki adds as a silence falls between them.
Thor clenches his jaw and furrows his brow as he tries not to think about the battle that would soon come to pass. Hopefully, they would all be back in their world by then. Thor could only hope and pray.
~~~~~~~~~
“You’re not going anywhere.” Bard exclaims pulling me from my thoughts.
“What did you say!?” Dwalin retorts angrily.
“There’s spies watching this house and probably every dock and wharf in the town. You must wait till nightfall.” Bard adds making me eye him curiously. Hearing this, the dwarfs begin to settle down. I watch as Bard leaves through the front door his son close behind him. I feel someone sit close to me and I turn to see Kili grimacing in pain.
“Let me see it.” I say as I kneel in front of him.
“I’ll be fine.” Kili retorts trying to hide his wound.
“In my world, a wound that is not properly cared for ends up being a lost limb.” I pause as my words set in. “Now, let me see.” I chastise making him reluctantly show his leg to me.
Pulling the wrap back I narrow my eyes in confusion. I had never seen a wound like this before.
“Sigrid? May I have some boiled water and some clean rags please?” I ask Bard’s oldest daughter as I make Kili sit down on a nearby chair.
“Yes ma’am.” Sigrid replies as she hurries over to the fireplace where the cauldron is kept.
“That water didn’t help your wound.” I say to Kili causing his eyes to narrow at me. “Clean water and bandages will help for now. Since I’m not from here I’m not too familiar with your medicines, but you should really be at a healer.”
“After we reach the mountain.” Kili retorts causing my eyes to shoot up to his.
“Kili, with this wound, you won’t make it to the mountain.” I say low enough so only he could hear.
Before He has a chance to reply Sigrid arrives next to me with hot water and some clean tears of cloth. I thank her as I take one of the cloths and dipping it into the hot water try my best not to let them see me cool it slightly with my powers. Kili winces as the rag encounters his skin wiping the dirt and tainted water of the lake away from his wound.
I see him visibly relax the more I wipe the grim away. As I finish wrapping the last wrap of cloth around the wound, I hear Thorin call out for his kin to follow him, and my eyes narrow at him.
“Where are you going?” I ask pushing Kili to sit back down.
“To get real weapons.” Thorin replies and I scoff at them.
“You’re going to steal them? And how, pray tell, do you expect to escape once you have them?” I counter making him narrow his eyes at me.
“Now’s not the time for this. We need to reach the mountain.”
“At the expense of what? Your-” Kili grabs my hand making me pause. His eyes meet mine and I groan inwardly at the silent plea to not tell Thorin about the extensiveness of his wound. “Fine, fine, fine. Whatever, do what you want. Just know that you’re fucking up.”
~~~~~~~~
It is night at Laketown. The dwarves are sneaking through the town toward the armory, hiding from watchmen. I unwilling to leave Kili by himself for fear that his wound will get the better of him go along with them. We hide behind a boat as two watchmen walk by.
“Shh! Keep it down.” Dwalin whispers.
“As soon as we have the weapons, we make straight for the mountain. Go, go, go!” Thorin calls quietly as the watchmen disappear around the corner.
With the watchmen gone, Thorin points to Nori, who gets a running start and runs up a pyramid of dwarves who have pressed themselves against the walls of the city armory. He is able to get high enough so that he can reach a second-floor window and dive through.
“Next.” Calls Thorin and Bilbo does the same thing as Nori.
Soon, several dwarves, and I, are in the armory. We begin collecting the weapons stored there. Kili struggles under a load of several different weapons, and Thorin hands him another one.
“You all right?” Thorin asks him, his eyes examining his nephew.
“I can manage. Let’s just get out of here.” Kili replies making me instantly move toward him.
Thorin looks at Kili, then lays another sword on the pile Kili is holding. Kili starts walking down the stairs, but his wounded leg gives way, and he falls with a cry. The weapons make a terrible clanging noise, and the dwarves both inside and outside look around warily. In the distance, the watchmen cry out, and running footsteps approach.
“Kili!” I cry out as I rush down the stairs after him.
The dwarves still outside begin to run but are stopped by two watchmen pointing pikes at them. Bilbo and the dwarves in the armory grab weapons, but several other guards point pikes at them too. I feel Kili be pulled away from me and I look up to see, Braga, the captain of the guard, holding Kili with a dagger to his throat. Kili looks sadly and guiltily at Thorin.
“Take them to the master!” Braga orders as he yanks Kili to his feet.
“Hey!” I yell angrily as Kili cries out in pain. “Leave him alone!”
I grab Kili by the arm and giving him some support lead him after the guards. The guards lead us through the city until we are standing at the steps of what was supposed to be the master’s home. A sneaky looking man pokes his head out of the door to the master’s mansion to see the commotion. He sees the soldiers dragging the dwarves to the mansion, with multitudes of townspeople following behind. It is snowing a little.
“Get off of me!” I cry out as a man grabs my arm and tries to pull me away from Kili.
There is a lot of indistinct muttering and yelling as Alfrid closes the door and goes to get the master. Braga arranges all the dwarves under guard in the town square before the doors of the mansion. As the guards open the doors of the mansion, the Master storms out, still putting on his coat.
“What is the meaning of this?” A big grotesque looking man demands as he stands at the top of the steps.
“We caught ‘em stealing weapons, sire.” Braga announces.
“Ah. Enemies of the state, then.” The master adds making me narrow my eyes at him.
“This is a bunch of mercenaries if ever there was, sire.” Alfrid confirms as his eyes land on me.
“Hold your tongue. You do not know to whom you speak. This is no common criminal; this is Thorin, son of Thrain, son of Thror!” Dwalin yells out as he gestures to Thorin and Thorin steps forward. The crowd murmurs in amazement.
“We are the dwarves of Erebor.” Thorin announces the crowd whispers in shock and recognition, and people crane their heads to see better. “We have come to reclaim our homeland. I remember this town and the great days of old. Fleets of boats lay at harbor, filled with silks and fine gems. This was no forsaken town on a lake! This was the center of all trade in the North.” Thorin is speaking earnestly to the crowd, and the people nod in agreement. “I would see those days return. I would relight the great forges of the dwarves and send wealth and riches flowing once more from the halls of Erebor!”
The people cheer and clap, and the Master looks on, calculating. Suddenly, a voice calls out over the crowd, and Bard strides forward. “Death! That is what you will bring upon us. Dragon-fire and ruin. If you awaken that beast, it will destroy us all.” The people whisper anxiously.
“You can listen to this naysayer, but I promise you this; If we succeed, all will share in the wealth of the mountain. You will have enough gold to rebuild Esgaroth ten times over!” Thorin announces and I glance from him to Bard who wears a pained expression on his face.
The people shout in excitement, and they applaud. The Master looks on, smiling and nodding at this turn of events.
“All of you! Listen to me! You must listen! Have you forgotten what happened to Dale?!” Bard announces and I listen carefully. The people quiet down and shake their heads sadly. “Have you forgotten those who died in the firestorm?!”
The people shout, “No!”
“And for what purpose? The blind ambition of a mountain-king so riven by greed; he could not see beyond his own desire!” Bard concludes and my heart clenches for Thorin. As Bard and Thorin stare at each other angrily, the crowd gets louder, but then the Master steps forth.
“Now, now, we must not, any of us, be too quick to lay blame. Let us not forget that it was Girion, Lord of Dale, your ancestor, who failed to kill the beast!” The Master points accusingly at Bard, and the crowd begins to clamor.
As Bard looks away, Thorin looks at him in shock and anger.
“It’s true, sire. We all know the story: arrow after arrow he shot, each one missing its mark.” Alfrid adds and my eyes never leave Bards. Bard looks around as the crowd yells angrily at him. He then strides forward and speaks to Thorin earnestly.
“You have no right, no right to enter that mountain!” Bard concludes making my brow furrow in confliction.
“I have the only right.” Thorin states and I look down at the ground. Thorin turns and faces the Master. “I speak to the Master of the men of the Lake. Will you see the prophecy fulfilled? Will you share in the great wealth of our people?”
The people quietly watch in anticipation.
“What say you?” Thorin asks.
The Master thinks for several seconds, then smiles and points his finger at Thorin. “I say unto you...welcome! Welcome and thrice welcome, King under the Mountain!”
The Master opens his arms in welcome, and the crowd erupts in cheers. Bard looks on silently. Thorin climbs up a few steps and turns to face the audience; the people hug each other in excitement and joy. Thorin and Bard stare at each other. I move closer to Bard and gently whisper to him.
“Bard, I understand your fears. I know them all too well; but Thorin does have a right to reclaim his home. If it be possible.”
“He will release that dragon upon us, and none will survive.”
“I won’t let that happen.”
“You will be powerless to stop it.” He adds as he starts to walk away.
I glance at Thorin for a moment, whose eyes were focused on me, and then shaking my head hurry off after Bard.
“Bard, Smaug will come out of that mountain one way or another. Whether it be us entering the mountain or by his own hunger. He will emerge, and when he does where do you think he will go first? Yes, he’s been sleeping for years but how much longer will that last. I don’t want to put anyone in danger, but I know how much Thorin needs this. To be able to go home.”
“But at what cost?” he interjects making my breath catch. “Hundreds of lives will be lost to Smaug, not to mention all the others that he will seek out to destroy after he’s slaughtered us. I’m trying to do what is best for the people. Thorin is being selfish. I’m sorry, but I must see to my children.”
Without so much as another word he is gone.
I stand there conflicted in my thoughts. As someone who lost it all, I would give anything for the chance to be able to go back to Asgard and make it my home again. Was that selfish? I slowly walk back toward the master’s mansion. I find Thorin standing outside waiting for me.
“Where were you?” He asks and I let out a heavy sigh.
“I wanted to try to make Bard understand, but I ended up feeling more conflicted than before.” I answer honestly.
Thorin closes the distance between us and reaching out takes my hands in his. My brow furrows as I try to think of what to do.
“You’ve done more than enough.” He says and I let out a heavy sigh. “(Name), about leaving you behind. You must understand, I thought you’d be safer-”
“Don’t,” I interrupt making him stop. “Do not say that. You promised you wouldn’t leave me behind and then you did.” I state pulling my hands from his. “I cannot trust your words anymore.”
“Yet you still wish to journey with us to the mountain?”
“Yes! Because I gave my word.” I cry out taking a step back. “Thorin, I promised. I will see you all to your home,” I pause my heart clenching. “Then I’m returning to my world.”
With that I walked past him and into the manor where the rest of the dwarves were celebrating. I grab a tankard and make a beeline for a corner. I needed to be alone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why had this day turned into shit? I woke up this morning in a good mood. My hair and makeup looked amazing. I made it to work early. I had a decent night of tips. I even met a couple of hot guys who were not total douchebags. Overall, it had been a pretty good day. So why then, on my way home did I have to run into these assholes?
“Hey there baby, looking good.” I hear a male voice say from behind me and I roll my eyes.
Just ignore them.
“What’s the matter sweetheart, you think you’re too good for us?” Another male voice asks, and I clench my fist so tightly that my fingers were turning white.
Keep walking. Do not hurt them.
I keep my thoughts on repeat as I continue down the street until a man twice my size and built like a brick house steps into my path. His brown eyes looking me up and down hungrily. My stomach churned.
“Wanna join us for a little party?” He asks and I narrow my eyes at him.
“No.” I answer my words filled with finality.
“Come on, you don’t mean that.” He adds as he reaches out to touch me.
I instantly step back out of his reach causing his hand to miss my shoulder and fall to his side.
“I do mean it. Now, move while I’m still asking nicely.” I demand making him chuckle at me.
“Or what sweet cheeks? What are you going to do?” He questions moving towards me again and I suddenly realize the guys from before are still there as they stop me from moving back any further.
I feel a hand touch my waist and I instantly slap it away.
“Do not touch me.” I state anger filling my words.
“Come on, just play around with us. You’ll enjoy it.” The man from behind me says and I roll my eyes.
“I seriously doubt that.” I retort making his friends laugh at him.
“Let’s go baby,” The big man says reaching out and grabbing my arms holding it dangerously tight.
“You have three seconds to get your hand off of me.” I warn my jaw clenching.
“Or what? What are you gonna do?” He challenges as he jerks me into his chest.
Fuck this shit.
Using just a hint of my super strength I grab the wrist of the hand that was holding my arm and giving it a quick squeeze make him fall to his knees. A cry of pain leaves his lips making his friends come to his rescue. I feel them move behind me and I smirk as I twist just right to send the big dude flying into them. Wiping my hands against each other, I place them on my hips and cock an eyebrow at my attackers.
“I’m going to give you one more chance. Apologize, and then be on your way.”
“Why would I apologize to some freak?!” The big guy yells and I narrow my eyes.
“Cause if you don’t,” I walk closer to them my eyes slowly starting to glow as brightly as the sun. Fear fills their eyes and I do not even need to finish my sentence. My eyes speak for themselves.
“I’m sorry,” Big guy instantly yells out as he tries to scramble to his feet. His buddies following suit.
“I’m sorry, what?” I add folding my arms over my chest.
“I’m sorry, ma’am.” They all yell out and I smile.
“Good, now remember, treat ladies with the respect they deserve, or I’ll find you.” I warn and their faces pale. “Bye-bye.” With a quick wave of my hand, they jump to their feet and race away.
Taking a deep breath, I look to the sky and seeing the moon glowing brightly let out a heavy sigh. I knew Gotham was a dangerous city, but after everything that had happened in Metropolis, I had needed a break. A break from being a hero and fighting crime. Plus, a break from him. My heart winces at the memory and I shake my head.
I force the memory from my head and continue back on my way home. Maybe a tub of ice cream and some take-out would raise my spirits.
~~~
Bruce stood on the roof of a building catty-corner to the alley where the event had taken place. He had watched the altercation with curious eyes. He had met her earlier that day when a Dick had wanted to meet with him at a little restaurant nearby. At first Bruce had been surprised about the location of their meeting but seeing his oldest smile brightly at the beautiful waitress cleared up any questions he had previously had.
Flashback
Bruce walked through the restaurant door and gave the room a once over before his eyes landed on his oldest son’s figure. The boy was smiling brightly as he talked with a (H/C) waitress who had her back towards Bruce. Dick’s eyes glance past her and landing on Bruce give him a quick wave. Bruce unbuttons the buttons on his suit as he closes the distance between them. Reaching the seat, he swiftly slides into the booth seat across from Dick.
“Hey Bruce, glad you could make it.” Dick starts making Bruce nod. “Bruce, this is (Name).”
“Hello.” Bruce says his eyes glancing up to look at her politely but as they move back to look at Dick, he had to do a double take his eyes landing on the beautiful waitress in front of him.
“Hi.” (Name) replies softly a smile filling her lips.
Their eyes meet and Bruce swears that she was like the sun. Her bright smile and shining (E/C) eyes made his heart race in his chest.
“Nice to meet you.” Bruce adds a smirk on his lips.
“Nice to meet you too.” She replies shyly. “What can I get you to eat?”
“I’ll just take a coffee.” Bruce replies quickly and she nods.
“And you’ll have the deluxe?” She adds as she turns back to Dick.
“Yes ma’am.” He replies a smirk filling his lips as he tries to flirt with her.
“Coming right up. I’ll be right back.” She replies smiling at them both before she turns and walks away.
Bruce can’t help but stare after her as she walks away. His eyes unconsciously look her up and down examining every inch of her. From her hair down to her feet which were uncharacteristically in a pair of dark blue high heels. Normal waitresses would not be caught dead in high heels and he would know. He had dated enough of them. The sound of Dick clearing his throat brought Bruce back from his staring.
“I know she’s pretty Bruce, but we have to talk.” Dick jokes making Bruce glare at him.
“What did you need?” Bruce asks as he leans back in his seat.
“Nothing, just wanted to have lunch.” Dick replies making Bruce cock an eyebrow at him.
“Right.” Bruce says leaning forward to rest his arms on the table.
“And I might have wanted to talk to you about Damian.”
“What did he do this time?”
“Knocked over a meth lab over in Bludhaven. Almost got some innocent people killed.”
“I’ll talk with him.” Bruce concludes his eyes catching sight of (Name) as she makes her way back over with his coffee and Dick’s drink.
As she sets the mug of coffee down in front of him, she gives him a sweet smile. Bruce offers a polite smile in return as he reaches out to pull the coffee closer to him.
“Thank you (Name).” Bruce says and her smile brightens.
“You’re very welcome.” She replies a tinge of rouge filling her cheeks.
Bruce had to admit he was having some unsavory thoughts about her at this moment and it was driving him crazy. He usually didn’t feel this way about a woman this fast. He wanted to touch her, but he held back.
“(Name) how long have to you worked here?” Dick asks pulling her attention.
“Only a month or so. I just moved here from Metropolis.” She says and he looks through his eyelashes at her to see that she was surprised at what she had said.
“Metropolis, huh, why would you want to move here?” Dick asks and Bruce must fight the urge to kick his son under the table.
“Well,” She pauses for a moment her eyes turning sad and it made Bruce furious. “I wanted a fresh start, I figured why not Gotham.” She answers honestly making Dick and Bruce eye each other in surprise. People didn’t usually move to Gotham for a fresh start. In fact, they ran from Gotham. “Sorry, but I have to go, if you need anything please don’t hesitate to ask.” She says as she quickly moves away from the table.
“Isn’t she pretty?” Dick asks as they both stare off after her.
Pretty doesn’t cover it.
“I need to go.” Bruce says as he finishes his coffee off. “I’ll talk to Damien.”
“Thanks Bruce, tell Alfred I’ll be late tonight. I have a mission with Babs.” Dick adds and Bruce nods.
Standing up he makes his way toward the door when he almost runs into her. She hadn’t been paying attention to where she was walking and almost ran smack dab into him.
“Shit, I’m sorry. I should have been paying attention.” She says quickly as she chastises herself.
“It’s fine (name).” He says and she relaxes. “Thank you for the coffee.”
“You’re welcome.” She replies offering him a soft smile. She goes to walk past him when he stops her.
“This might seem forward of me, if it is, I apologize; but if you’d like I can show you around Gotham sometime.” Bruce hears himself ask and even he is surprised. Had he really asked her that?
“Um,” She starts her body radiating how uncomfortable she was.
“I’m sorry, forget I asked.” He quickly adds as he goes to walk past her.
“I’m sorry, wait.” She calls as she gently reaches out to grab his arm. “I’m a little uncomfortable, I won’t lie.” She pauses giving him a chance to turn back to face her. “But I didn’t say no.” She adds and he lets out a breath he didn’t know he had been holding.
“Oh?” He says and instantly wishes he could smack himself.
“Yeah, um, I’m off tomorrow if that works for you.”
Fuck, he had an important Justice League meeting tomorrow.
“Tomorrow works.” He answers making a mental note to push the meeting to later.
“Cool, um I’ll meet you in Robinson Park about noonish then?” She asks and he nods.
“Works for me.”
“Okay, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then Bruce.” She says a bright smile on her lips.
God she was gorgeous.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” He says flashing her a smile before she rushes off back to work.
End of Flashback
Bruce did not know what to think about what he had just witnessed. Who was she really? The fact that his interest in her wasn’t swayed by the sudden discovery surprised him. Against his better judgement he follows her and when it’s quiet enough he makes his presence known to her.
“Pretty interesting display, you showed back there.” He says making her stop in her footsteps. He watches as she turns towards him with a worried look on her face.
“Are you here to lecture me?” She asks worry turning into anger.
“No, I thought you standing up for yourself was admirable.” He answers honestly and she softens. “What are you doing here in Gotham?”
“Look Bats, I came here to get away from Metropolis, funny I know, considering its right across the bay, but this was the only place I could think of.”
“Who are you really? I’ve seen your eyes before.” Bruce says as he remembers the bright glow of them.
“Can we talk about this inside?” She asks pointing to her apartment building. “Rather not air my dirty laundry out here if you don’t mind. I won’t run, I have no reason too.”
Against Bruce’s better judgement he nods.
“Cool, I’ll open the window when I get there.” She replies as she turns from him and heads into her building.
Bruce moves to the roof as he waits patiently for her to open her window. His mind starts to run wild with thoughts about who she could be. She wasn’t a villain, that was certain. She just did not have that air about her. He had been wrong before though. A few of his exes could attest to that. The window opens and he stealthily makes his way into it.
Will Continue on the 22nd of January.
