BENITO MUSSOLINI
BENITO MUSSOLINI
29 July 1883 – 28 April 1945
Prime Minister of Italy, Tyrant, was Assassinated
Mussolini was the leader of the political party PNF which he formed in 1919. His followers would fight any opposition political parties on the streets. In 1922 he and his loyal followers were in the March on Rome and Mussolini was asked to join the government. Mussolini called himself ‘the leader’ and made himself a dictator who had a mission to turn Italy into a major European power. He was a corrupt leader, who fixed the elections of 1924, and had any opposition murdered.
Benito Mussolini was born in northern Italy and was the son of a blacksmith. He became a teacher and then a socialist journalist. Mussolini was married twice, had two known mistresses and had six children. He was arrested in Switzerland for revolutionary activities. During World War I his backside was injured, and Italy suffered from poverty, unemployment, strikes and riots.
After Mussolini gained power, he negotiated the Lateran treaty with the Roman Catholic Church which created the Vatican City as a separate state. He had railway stations made and had trains run on time. He created new factories, drainage schemes, and boosted industrial production by cutting taxes. For some time, under his rule, Italy did improve. However, there was much corruption and he set up a secret police force.
He conquered Ethiopia and Albania. His invasion on Ethiopia provoked worldwide protests, due to his murder of thousands of Ethiopian civilians. He made alliance with Germany in 1940 and declared war on France and Britain. His military campaigns were a disaster and the Italian people turned on him.
After the fall of Sicily, he was arrested and imprisoned. On 12 September, he was rescued by a German and Mussolini ruled northern Italy which was under German occupation. He executed those who he believed betrayed him, including his own son-in-law.
When Italian resistance fighters closed in, Mussolini, 61, and his mistress, Clara Petacci, 33, attempted to flee to Switzerland. They were captured on the Austrian border and the couple were killed. Their bodies were then taken to Piazza Loreto, Milan where they were kicked and spat on. Their bodies hung upside down in Piazza Loreto in Milan and were then stoned. Today a McDonalds is built on the same spot.

The Italian government wants to ban foreign words, just like the fascists did in 1923 The way history is repeating itself in Italy is a bit on the nose as of late, with the current government trying to revive laws put in place a century ago during the fascist regime and abolished with the country’s liberation.Read more... https://qz.com/the-italian-government-wants-to-ban-foreign-words-just-1850294377
