Bungo: Isn't anyone going to do something?
Belladonna: What, about Bard? He's fine.
Bungo: He FAINTED, Bella!
Belladonna: He's fine.
Bungo: But-
Isembard: did father leave to fetch a healer yet
Gerontius: Nope. Right here, Bard.
Isembard: drat
Belladonna: See? He's fine.
Bungo: what
Gerontius: Isembard Took, get up and explain yourself.
Isembard: the floor is really dusty
Gerontius: All the more reason to get up, then.
Bungo: why are you all acting like this is normal

I have now read enough Hobbit genderbending fic that I've forgotten Bilbo Baggins is, in fact, a man.
And on that note I really want an au where Belladonna Baggins (née Took) is still alive and turns the dwarves' quest for their homeland into a mother/daughter bonding trip by arranging for them to kidnap Bilbo after she refuses to go.
Hamfast Gamgee: Where are you and Miss Baggins off to, then?
Belladonna: We're going on an adventure!
Bilbo, being loaded onto a pony like a spare bedroll: HELP!! HELP ME!! I'M BEING KIDNAPPED!! MY MOTHER'S SOLD ME TO DWARVES!! HELP!!
Belladonna: Ignore her. I've already closed up the house and emptied the larder, but I'd appreciate it if you checked in on it from time to time, if you please, and for God's sake keep Bungo's awful niece out. Bilbo insists we be polite because she's family, but I always have to count the silverware when she leaves.
Hamfast: I'll be sure to do that, ma'am.
Bilbo: HELP!! FIRE!! MURDER!!
Hamfast: ......
Belladonna: Oh don't worry, if she's still like this by the time we get to Bree I'll let her come back home and just go on with them myself.
Hamfast: Pardon my saying so, ma'am, but I doubt Miss Baggins would willingly come home knowing you're out on some damn fool adventure.
Belladonna, cheerfully: I know!

Belladonna Baggins (née Took) moodboard
Belladonna Baggins was a hobbit of the Shire, wife of Bungo Baggins and the mother of Bilbo Baggins. She was the “remarkable” ninth child of the Old Took. She was a friend of Gandalf and was head of the Baggins family for a number of years.

it’s just, you spend much of The Hobbit and parts of Lord of the Rings with the narration periodically being like, “and then his Tookish heritage reared up and said, “don’t you want to just go feral?” But it’s narration, background. We’ve never met Belladonna Baggins née Took and we never do. Pippin repeatedly follows his friends into inane danger despite being repeatedly told not to, or sometimes just goes by himself, but so do Merry, Sam, and Frodo, and hey, Pippin’s the hobbit equivalent of 17. Maybe it’s just Pippin.
And then you get to the Scouring of the Shire and it’s like, oh. Oh no. They’re all Like That.
need me a t-shirt that says “THE TOOKS SHOT FIRST”

Belladonna: Bungo, darling? Where have you put the pipeweed?
Bungo: Hm? Oh, it's in the pouch on the mantelpiece.
Belladonna: Thank you!
Bungo: ... Wait, why did you want to know that?
Belladonna: Reasons.
Bungo: You- oh my stars
Belladonna: So maybe the reasons were mostly bee stings.
Bungo: What did you do?!
Belladonna: Well, see, I was practicing archery. Don't want to get rusty, you know. And maybe my aim was off, and maybe I hit that hive, and maybe the bees were angry.
Bungo: Belladonna!
Belladonna: I'll be fine! At least I'm not like Isembard, he swells up like a pumpkin when bitten or stung by anything!

Enjoying their tea
Mungo: Properly enjoys his tea in small sips, savours each sip. Very particular about how he takes his tea. Absolutely no honey ever. No slurping.
Bungo: Much like his father, generally takes small sips of his tea. A cup can last a long while. Honey only when he’s under the weather. Slurps when he thinks he’s alone and is paying attention to something else.
Gerontius: Savage. Drinks his tea like it’s ale. Downs entire cup in one gulp. At least three spoonfuls of honey, if not more. Will slurp to annoy others.
Belladonna: Has been taught to drink tea like a lady should, but pays very little attention to that. Likes a little bit of honey in it. At least doesn’t slurp.
Bilbo: Prim and proper when in polite company or when alone. Complete savage when around people he doesn’t really care for.

Bungo: The first rainy day in nearly a month... Stars, but I've missed this.
Belladonna: It is very soothing.
Bungo: Isn't it, though? I can just sit in here and read and breathe.
Belladonna: Weren't you going to help your father with a bit of work today?
Bungo: ... but... but it's raining...
Belladonna: I know it is.
Bungo: please don't make me go
Belladonna: We own several umbrellas, and your father expects you to be punctual.
Bungo: but it's raining!
Belladonna: Absolutely pouring. He's still expecting you.
Bungo: please no

Belladonna: It's amazing what marriage will do to a hobbit.
Bungo: mrgh?
Belladonna: You spent so many months before we married being up at the crack of dawn - of course entirely because you were working on this beautiful smial.
Bungo: wha' time 's it?
Belladonna: Then the smial was done, and we were wed, and now you sleep until elevenses with no shame.
Bungo: 's eleven?
Belladonna: No, it's noon. It's time for lunch.
Bungo: oh. can i go back to sleep?
Belladonna: No.
Bungo: please?
Belladonna: Really, Bungo, I know you're not a morning person, but this is getting ridiculous.
Bungo: i spent over a year getting up at the crack of dawn for you, please let me sleep

Mungo: I think this might be the best birthday in a long while.
Laura: Howcome?
Mungo: Why, because I don't have to do anything, of course! People are either ill or generally cooped up in their homes unable to travel, so no guests to entertain. And only Bungo and Belladonna are coming here for dinner later, so it'll be a quiet day. Absolutely perfect.
Laura: ... You're not going to like today at all.
Mungo: What?
Bungo: Mum? Da? Are you home?
Mungo: What in the world? It's barely time for elevenses, why-
Gerontius: Oi! Get out here and greet your guests, you old barrow-wight!
Mungo: why
Laura: Well, see, Gerontius and Adamanta are visiting Bag End, and we can't very well invite only Bungo and Belladonna for dinner and leave their guests behind, can we?
Mungo: can we just say I took ill this morning
Bungo: Da, I am so sorry, they would've gone back home right after Yule, but with the weather the way it is, it just wasn't safe.
Gerontius: There you are! Looking every bit the old desecrated ruin your age indicates, I see!
Mungo: and lo, the fates overturn a wagonload of manure over my head yet again
Gerontius: Aww, I missed you too, you sad sack of bones.

Bungo: Belladonna, dearest, you know I love you very much.
Belladonna: ... I sense a "but".
Bungo: BUT, what on earth is this?
Belladonna: That, my darling, would be a spear.
Bungo: I know what a spear is.
Belladonna: Then why do you ask?
Bungo: Why do you have this?
Belladonna: Found it while travelling.
Bungo: Why is it in our home?
Belladonna: Because it's mine, and I'm not letting my siblings grab it.
Bungo: And I suppose you have an explanation for why it was in the wine cellar?
Belladonna: Because I can't keep it in the bedroom without upsetting you.
Bungo: Almost having my arm sliced open because this was knocked over upsets me.
