okokok before i go to bed i just. i just need to talk about Dorym. I need to yap about them once more.

i know for literal MONTHS i have been saying "i need Dorym to kiss" etc etc and if you follow me i am so sorry that my obsession over two fictional gay men infiltrated your feed so violently, BUT

after that absolute masterclass in acting by Robbie and Liam I have decided that I actually don't need them to kiss. That's not what they are. At least not yet.

They are both so afraid of being soft and vulnerable. Dorian literally said it in his confession. He's not used to being open with anyone. Orym has spent the last several episodes, if not the whole campaign, keeping himself at arm's length from all of his friends. He kept himself away from Dorian, specifically, because he was scared. Even when Will told him it's okay to love someone else, he was still terrified.

So their love doesn't need to be confirmed to the world in some big gesture, Fjord's "can I kiss you" or Vax's promise to stay by Keyleth's side, even in death or Vex's "my heart belongs to someone else". That stuff doesn't matter to Dorian and Orym. What matters is being able to comfort the person you love, the person who is always refusing help because he doesn't believe he's important enough for it. It's being able to feel safe enough with someone to just sleep. To think "this is okay" because it is. To watch out for each other and be there for each other and call each other even when the lines are down and have that be enough.

I feel like they've been loving each other for a really long time, it just took until now for them to say it.

There’s this little moment early on in Steps into Shadow that’s driving me up the wall. They just rescued Hondo, Ezra’s shown off some new badass skills he got during the timeskip, and we get this exchange:

Hondo: “Is that really Ezra?”

Sabine: “Most of the time.”

Like. There’s some backstory here. That’s objectively a pretty strange and concerning thing to say. That’s not the type of thing you say when your little brother’s just been going through a rebellious phase and fighting with your parents. Some shit has happened here.

What has Ezra been doing up to this point that Sabine doesn’t see him as himself sometimes?

(Most of the really authoritative, shitty stuff that Ezra does in this episode happens later, spurred on by his promotion. Even with the Dark side, which he had been using before this point, Sabine’s surprised when she sees what he does to the walkers. She even asks when he learned to do that kind of thing, which means it’s new.)

What’s been going on beforehand to get Sabine to this point? What’s Ezra done that gets this offhand reaction out of her but that she hasn’t raised as a serious concern to Hera? Im chewing on drywall I NEED TO KNOW

for the record, part of the reason Bells Hells being the "party of NPCs" was so great and cool is that the structure treated them as the heroes. it was emphasizing that everybody, even people so outcast or inessential as NPCs, is important and has their own full inner life. thematically it makes sense for the "real heroes" to be called in to work alongside Bells Hells, and i wasn't even opposed to the crossover. i understand how cool and meaningful this is in the broader scope of CR, and it's just an unlucky break that BH have gotten the short stick. but having VM and M9 get so much focus in the endgame that the last two episodes of BH's talkback show are mainly about them stings. when the other groups got their endgames all to themselves, it ends up feeling like the show itself doesn't consider the party of NPCs as important.

I've written about how it must have been viscerally satisfying for Adler seeing Bell come together, taking something from Perseus and making it his and what not but I imagine it also must've been satisfying for Park, albeit in different ways. The creation of Bell wasn't personal like it was for Adler but there must have been some smooth satisfaction at seeing her work come to fruition. The pieces all coming together, broken machine made to operate smoothly. Park's satisfaction is the satisfaction of Dr Frankenstein having just created life. She's a scientist and her experiment worked! All her notes, all her data made Bell, she made Bell. She worked hard and now she gets to sit back and watch the results, a job well done. As any worker or artist, she's got to be proud of her hard work no?

With Marisha mentioning on last 4SD that Laudna went to that dinner with the Briarwoods thinking it might be her in to leave Whitestone and go study/train her magic abilities, I wonder how much this early trauma has impacted how she talks, or rather doesn’t talk, about being a sorcerer.

Because Laudna doesn’t really talk about what it was like growing up as the only sorcerer in town with abilities she didn’t understand, nor does she seek to learn more about them now (but she wants to give Imogen all that she never had, and the first thing they try to do in the campaign is figure out Imogen's magic). She may talk about her death, sometimes almost flippantly, but not about how it feels knowing that it was her magic, that one part of her that made her special, that she wanted to use to get out of her simple life, that made Delilah choose her as her undead puppet, or the inverse in knowing that if it wasn’t for said magic dooming her, she would just be dead-dead, like the rest of the people in that tree.

And I wonder, is part of Laudna scared to explore her own abilities and self? Is it part of her compartmentalization, where doing so would force her to face a part of her own trauma that she’s been trying to ignore? Did dying trying to reach for something Bigger ironically remove the magic from it all, reduce her sorcerer abilities to just another thing that was used take control of her life away from her? Does leaving herself in the dark feel like taking part of that control back?

You know I think team sneaky is on a collision course toward meeting Otohan (especially because Orym and Imogen are there) and I really don't like the idea that Orym will possibly have to face her without Fearne or Ashton there with him.
