because it's very important that someone is documenting it.

England- was instructed by the British Olympic committee NOT to eat the meat at the Village.

Everyone- collectively hates the food and have said so in interviews and online DAILY. They have all been going out to do their own shopping and buying grills and flat tops to cook for themselves, because teh food is so retched. It has been given a 0/10 most days and on rare days a 2/10 by the Americans.

Norway- has gained the nickname 'muffin man' for commandeering the ONLY edible thing in the village, which may or may not be a hate crime, the beloved chocolate muffins. which they have all been fighting over. He was spotted the other day eating jelly toast, disgracing his name. Duolingo called it blasphemy. His team posted his shame for the world to see on tiktok. Scandalous

Australia, America, Canada, Greece, Italy, Denmark and England - Threw a fit until they were allowed to bring their own personal AC units to the village because the village has NONE, it is '79 degrease' in the rooms, how miserable. Australian and America made this possible by threatening not to come if they can’t have AC. I do not blame them at all. Could you imagine being outside playing tennis all day in 80 degree heat and then going back to your room to relax where it is STILL 80 degrees.

America- has brought his own mattress because the mattress is a thin piece of foam and everyone has been complaining of lack of sleep and back pain.

Canada- was caught cheating by using a drone to spy on New Zealand's soccer practice.

Hong Kong & Italy- Italy accused Hong Kong of fixing the fencing competition by paying off reffs (This is untrue and the fencing coaches are being sore losers, the athlete himself agrees with teh decision). Hong Kong has been taunting Italy with pictures of pineapple on pizza. Pizza Hut Hong Kong is offering FREE pineapple on any pizza for the next 2 days. Tragic. We don't know what this will do for his mental health I will try and keep you all posted.

England- Whilst mountain biking got a flat tire, had to carry his bike to get fixed and somehow still managed to get first after passing a French biker going around a tree in the forest. French spectators threw water bottles at him!? The fuck.

America- though not really drama but America has built their own “Team America” house for all their many athletes to come hang out in, it has AC and also it’s decorated like a frat house and looks like a frat house. They have ice cream, video games, iced coffee (extremely important!!) and clothing stores for merch, a big room like a movie theater where everyone can go to to both eat and watch the games together. If you’re not an American athlete it’s 300 bucks to go to for the day. This has angered other athletes who just want to go inside to see. Just import to note.

Belgium - Belgium got a gastrointestinal infection after swimming in the Seine river. Several atletes were seen vomiting after swimming in the water.

he didn't know how it ended up the way it did, but fuck was he happy about it.

when they were younger he would stand on the side of the court behind a net at the tennis centre twenty minutes away from burnage on the train for her county matches. now he sat in guest boxes and spent time not rehearsing and recording plane hopping from open to open, tournament to tournament watching the way her agile feet jumped along the clay staining the soles of her white tennis shoes red.

she acted in turn thought and for that liam was thankful. watching her launch the ball from serve to return over the net was exhausting, but he knew the training and flying to catch the occasional gig was worse and he didn't know how she did it: give a blinder of a performance at the wimbledon grand slam finals and then land in lisbon to see him perform after her hours of press campaigns.

in liam's eyes, lottie could do no wrong; she was perfect in every sense of the word back when they'd started dating in secondary school. she'd offered to help him to pass his ppe's at the pleasure of his mam, she didn't smoke or do drugs at house parties, wouldn't touch a drop of alcohol until she was of legal age and even still it was rare enough to see her do it.

training took up every week night as well as all day saturday, she worked at the bar at the boardwalk in the evening (ironically she was a dab hand at making a blinder of a cocktail) and dedicated sunday to her homework followed by perfecting her serve stance and follow through.

lottie had everything going for her, something that she made clear she wished he had too. many a time she'd be sat with liam late at night, after her shift at the boardwalk, in the middle of the grassy patch in the children's play ground. "someone'll notice you eventually, i know they will. everyone who's seen you loves you."

liam pulled a handful of grass up with his hands out of frustration, a half burnt out cigarette hung between his lips that she couldn't keep her eyes off. "dicks aren't writing about us, though. no-one south of hale or north of oldham knows who we are."

three weeks later, liam had interrupted her training session. he cut off her backhanded serve and pulled her shoulders to him to kiss her soundly as lottie's tennis instructor yelled at him to leave. liam pulled away, grinning brighter than she'd ever seen him, "we've got a record deal, lotts. creation want to work with us, they've signed us!"

a grin split her cheeks right in two. lottie flung her arms around his neck, stood right on the tips of her toes to keep a balance her instructor would have been proud of had he seen it out into action in another other given situation. he blew sharply on the brass whistle hanging on a loop around his neck, hands on his hips as he glared lottie down. she withdrew and whispered a select congratulations in his ear and pushed liam away towards the gate he'd bulldozed through, with a kiss to the pulse point on his neck

lottie was training for the french open when she was called over to the reception desk, hot and sweaty with her hair stuck to the back of her neck, to take a phone call. "hello?" she questioned down the line, rolling her ankles so she could jog back to the clay courts and hit the ground running. she nearly lost her grip on her racquet, slipping through her fingers to collide with her trainers, when liam laughed down the line. "hey lotts, you wouldn't mind paying out my bail would ya love?"

"i thought you were going to belgium," she managed to splutter out, "what did you do to get arrested on a ferry?"

"bit of a long story, babe, but can you pay it?"

she sighed and pinched her nose. "fine, yes. but seriously, liam, this is the last time i'm going to do it. if i find out this has anything to do with you snorting one before boarding you'll be out of my flat and onto your arse faster than you can blink."

on the other end of the line, standing against a pay-phone in a belgian police station, liam adjusted has stance against the pillar. he sat down on one of the wooden slated benches lining the concrete walls and tried to cover his crotch. he chewed his lip in thought, laughing fakely at something bonehead shouted, and his voice turned sombre. "it's not. promise. just had too much to drink an' all that, having a bit of fun before r'kid turns into commander and fuckin' chief."

he heard her heavy sigh and his heart sank. liam had no doubt in his mind that he would be out on the end of astrid's boot in a second if he didn't clean up his act. "i mean it, li. one whiff of cocaine being found in my house and the confederation won't let me compete. i'll phone alan and tell him i'm paying out your bail. you can call me when you get back." lottie hung up on him and handed the receiver back to honey, who was sat behind the desk and messing with the crucifix around her neck pretending like she hadn't overheard any of the conversation.

out on the courts and with little under two months until her first match of the french open, lottie bounced from service to base line, firing fuzzy balls back to over the net while the red clay stained the hem of her whites. she scratched her racquet more times than was necessary to lunge for the ball, while shooting up and zipping around the boxes as she worked harder against the machine.

sometimes during their rigorous training jamie, her coach of seven years, would start loud shouting conversations while lottie was working her arms and thighs. he argued it helped her maintain good breathing regulation and improved concentration, because viewers in the stands could be distracting at the best of times. "so what's new with the rock star, then?"

she grunted as she sent another ball flying over the net and into the wire fence surrounding the court, skidding on her toes in pursuit of the next only an arm's stretch away, "nothing. the twat's only gone and got himself arrested because he got pissed on an over night ferry. 'this is the last time, babe, i promise'", she mimicked in a high pitched voice, "like hell it is."

"ah." jamie ran a finger over the hair he was trying to grow out on top of his lip, "has the brother been in touch yet?" a cold wind shot through the air and he pulled up the zip of his tracksuit closer to his neck. lottie's back flared up in goosebumps but she kept moving, running around the court and rounding up the balls to pour them back into the funnel of the dispensing machine. "no, but i'm expecting a call soon. when one phones the other usually follows suit."

astrid pounded at the treadmill in the gym of her hotel in paris, five minutes away from the large clay court stadium she'd thrashed each of her opponents on. she'd played her way to the final three days and came away relatively unscathed, apart from a strain in her serving wrist that a quick round of physio patched back up. lindsay, an american who was in the running for the doubles championship, was using a bike next to her.

between the two of them they shared an earbud each, stemming from a cassette player settled on the window sill and balancing in the middle of their sponsored water bottles. all of a sudden liam's voice crackled through her ear, and lottie shook her head as she cranked up the incline under foot. lindsay looked at her out of the corner of her eye, cycling as if her life depended on it. "not a fan?" she inquired, bringing down the gears to loosen the tension burning in her calves.

"it's not that," she panted, pushing through the blister forming on her heel, "i just can't believe you are. they're bastards, all of them."

lindsay gradually brought her legs to a stop, taking a moment to bring down her breathing before swinging over the seat to stand up, "i thought you were going out with one of the brothers."

"oh, i am," the incline increased again, "but it doesn't mean i can't call them that." lottie brought the treadmill down until she was walking on a flat line, and took a large sip of water. she looked at her watch and checked the pedometer hooked over her shorts by her hip and started to gather her things. lindsay moved to grab a skipping rope and stretched out her arms behind her back.

"and speaking of whom, i'm off. they should be here by now, good luck for tomorrow if i don't see you."

"and you, lotts. i've heard martínez is training hard, she won't give you an easy run."

lottie zipped her fitted jacket halfway up and tucked her thumbs into the loops around her wrists. "i know. see you on the podium." she left the gym with the two plaits her hair had been tied in laying over her shoulders. in the lift, lottie brushed her eyebrows back into place and checked her watch again, sidestepping a confederation official on the way out into the lobby.

she rocked back and forth on her heels near enough away from the reception desk so as not to look like she was loitering, but close enough to be saved if there were any photographers crouched in a bush with a long-range lens.

as lottie was attempting to push back a cuticle on her nail, she heard liam first rather than seeing him. his loud voice disrupted the peace of the hotel, earning him a disapproving glance from the bellboys and an even dirtier look from noel who was sulking behind, face like thunder.

liam sauntered into the lobby with his sports bag slung lazily over his shoulder, and his eyes were drawn to the dip of lottie's tits first before her smile. she wrapped her arms around him and sighed heavily in content, taking his congratulations on her progress in the open to heart. then she drew away and went to hug noel, who visibly recoiled.

"what's up with you?"

"nowt." he grumbled, shuffling around with room keys.

liam scoffed. "like fuck it's nowt. you're just in a mard because fern broke up with ye'." noel looked like he was ready to hit his brother square on the nose, but was restraining greatly. lottie tried not to sound too sympathetic when she consoled him.

"look i don' want to fuckin' hear it from you either, lotts, no offence. now is there an offie 'round here, i'm dying for a cig and i haven't got nowt."

lottie furrowed her brow in thought and tried to ignore liam looking at her out of the corner of her eye as if he wanted to jump on her right there and then in the glossy lobby.

she crossed her arms under her chest to push up her tits more, just to wind him up. liam discreetly adjusted the way he was standing. "err, yeah. i think there's one just down the road."

"cheers."

noel had sped away before he could even ask someone to take his bag up to his room. liam grumbled out 'lazy cunt' as he made a show of hauling it over his other shoulder, herding lottie into the lift with a hand over her chest.

as soon as the mirrored doors slid shut and they felt movement, liam was attacking lottie with a kiss so searing she felt breathless within seconds.

"missed you so fuckin' much," he mumbled, moving to ravage her neck.

when the lift doors slid open again she dragged him back to her room with her hands on the back of his neck, pushing noel's bag off is shoulder and leaving it abandoned outside his room. liam's hands were roaming over her arse and he withdrew the room key from her back pocket, scanning it before shoving her inside.

"all that time away from you was fuckin' torture," he groaned as her nails dragged down his stomach and traced the low-hanging waistline of his jeans, "need you now, babe." he sighed against her chest as lottie slowly unbuckled his belt, his hand weakly climbing her torso to palm at her tits through her tight jacket.

lottie smirked, "if being this far away from me turns you into this much of a mess, liam," at this she walked him over to her bed to sink down between his legs, following the seam of his jeans up his thighs and to his exposed boxers, "i'm going to have to get competing more often."

Hello! So... I have been working on this Lando x Max story, in which they are competing for the same girl and I can add the smut here. Soooooo, I'll be sharing a sneak peak and you tell me what you think.

Lando’s eyes had already been caught up by her frame in Belgium during a Martin Garrix’s concert in Tomorrowland. Now she was there again, in a tennis club in Amsterdam, almost like a vulture on a damn white tennis skirt, holding a racket and wearing a white visor. The sweat was dripping off her whole skin, which in his masculine opinion was showing up a lot, which meant it was perfect. Her tanned skin was delicious, he could lick it all even with the whole sweat thing. He was kinda disgusting, wasn’t he? He didn’t mind. He had an angel playing tennis right in front of him and nothing could ruin that moment…. Except for Max. Max Verstappen: three times Formula 1 world champion and, recently, new single lad. Of course he and Lando were good friends, but the British man was still a bit pissed with the Dutchman. He has been a lot lately, of course, they were rivals. “What’s up, Lando?” he said already sitting at his friends’ side while sucked the orange juice, with a straw and an umbrella, he had in hands. “Hey… I didn’t know you enjoyed tennis” “I don’t” “So what are you doing in here?” “Are you trying to get rid of me?” Max asked with a funny tone in his voice “Yes” Lando answered in his mind only. He did want to get rid of Max, not because of the championship, but because of the mysterious tennis player lady. Lando didn’t want to share her with anybody, which means if he told Max the truth, he would have to mention her, so he opted to lie. “What?! No! Of course, no. It’s just you never seemed to care about tennis” “Well, it’s because I don’t” “Which takes us back to my question: what are you doing here?” “I think this is because of me” a third masculine voice entered the conversation, it was Martin. “Hey, Marty!” Lando said with a sweet tone “Hey, Lando!” Martin used the same tone as his friend “Why do I receive a grumpy ‘hey’ and a very non-receptive greeting?” “It’s what you deserve” Lando shrugged and directed his gaze to the tennis players, looking for the pretty girl. Martin sat next to Max and greeted him in dutch. Then, Verstappen looked to a very distracted Lando and decided to destroy his peace “Why don’t you ask him what is he doing here?’” “Martin?” Lando asked without taking his eyes off the tennis court "Yes” “He enjoys tennis” Lando said as it was the most obvious thing ever “But I still don’t get why you are here” Martin giggled “Stop giggling!” Max has been in a very bad mood since his relationship ended. “I asked him to come over” Martin answered, getting Lando’s attention “Why?” “He wanted to hang, I wanted to play, so I just connected both needs” “It makes sense” then he turned back to the girl. But Lando forgot Max was the most insightful and observant guy he knows and, of course, he noticed Lando was way too much invested in that tennis court “What are you so interested in?” “Tennis, bro” “I mean what are you actually interested in?” “Tennis” “I mean, seriously” “I am being serious” and Max didn’t believe in a single world, so he decided to find out for himself. Max squeezed his eyes because of the sun and started to scan the court till he found the reason why Lando’s lips were parted and his eyes didn’t blink even for a second. He couldn't be sure if the girl in the short skirt was the reason but he was sure she was the reason, cause he found himself with the same parted lips and frozen eyes. Martin turned to his left and wondered if they both were Formula 1 drivers or statues from a museum.

"What are you guys doing?” “Watching tennis” they said in unison. Martin followed their gaze and it landed at the girl “Are you guys watching Elena playing? She’s amazing, isn’t she?” they both looked at Martin “Elena?!” “Yes” “Do you know her?!” Max asked “Yes, she’s my neighbor and good friend of mine. Do you guys want to know her?” “Yes!” they repeated the unison thing and answered Martin as he was the most idiot guy in the world “Alright, alright”. Lando was so in ecstasy with the idea of actually knowing her that he didn’t notice Max’s interest in Elena. Elena. What a beautiful name, it reminded him of Greece, he had great times there already. He wondered  how greater they could be in her company. He and Elena making love in Santorini. How great could that be? He got lost in his fantasy and when he came back to reality, she was there, standing next to Martin, rubbing a towel on her face and struggling to breathe correctly. “Great game!” “Thank you… That last set just killed me” “But you won” “Yes! What about you, Martijn, how are you doing?” “I’m good. Do you know my friends, Max and Lando?” she looked at them “Actually, I don’t” Max and Lando widened their eyes “You don’t know us?” Max asked, she crossed her arms and arched an eyebrow “No. Do you know me?” “Not till now” “Never even heard about us on social media?” Lando tried “I haven’t. Have you heard about me on social media?” “Oh, I wish”. She looked at Max and Lando, then to Martin “Are they from TikTok or something like that?” Martin laughed “No, they are from formula 1” “Oh! I don’t watch formula 1” “This is Max Verstappen, he is the world champion, and that’s Lando Norris” she uncrossed her arms “Just Lando Norris?” Max bursted out laughing and she couldn’t help but giggle a bit when Lando poked Max’s nape “He drives for McLaren” Martin tried to help. “Oh, I know about that, my father collects McLaren’s cars” Lando’s eyes brightened “I collect them too!” “Do you pay for the cars?” “No” “That’s awesome, a good and fanatic collector would go crazy with some kind of advantage like that” “I’m still sane” she laughed, warming Lando’s heart with that beautiful smile “Good for you… I’m going back to the game, guys. Nice to meet you both and to see you, Martin” “Bye!” they said in unison “Bye” and she left. Then, Lando noticed: Max had the same dumb expression he had, fuck.

In 1534 English parliament passes the Act of Supremacy making Henry VIII and all subsequent monarchs the Head of the Church of England

10 facts about Henry VIII:

1. Henry VIII (1491–1547) is one of the most written about kings in English history. He established the Church of England.

2. In his youth, he was one of the Catholic Church’s staunchest supporters.

3. He is credited with establishing the Royal Navy, encouraging shipbuilding and the creation of anchorages and dockyards.

4. Not only could Henry speak Latin, French, Ancient Greek and Spanish, but also played the lute and organ, sang, played tennis and jousted.

5. Henry VIII was a merciless king.

He sent more men and women to their deaths than any other English monarch. In fact, it's estimated 57,000 - 72,000 people were executed during his 37-year reign.

6. He is the only English monarch to have ruled Belgium.

Henry captured the city of Tournai in 1513 and went on to rule it for six years. However, the city was returned to France in 1519 following the Treaty of London.⠀

7. He was paranoid about illness, terrified he would die before he had an heir.

8. He had six wives in total.

They were Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr.

9. He died in debt. Henry was a big spender. By his death on 28 January 1547, he had accumulated 50 royal palaces and spent vast sums on his collections and gambling. Not to mention the millions he pumped into wars with Scotland and France. When Henry’s son, Edward VI, took the throne, the royal coffers were in a sorry state.

10. Henry VIII was the first English king to be called 'Your Majesty.'

Fav band/artist? Hans Zimmer (composer). But I love many other composers! I don’t exactly have a fav band or artist as it’s not the kind of music I listen to (OST-Forever-Girl).

Do you have kids? No. I don’t want kids right now, I’ll wonder about that muuuuuch later. (Although I’m a cat mom at the moment.)

Use sarcasm a lot? I do sarcastic quips all the time… xD

Playing any sport? Used to be tennis. Now I do walking and running, and I’d love to swim again!!!

Favourite subject in school? Latin in secondary school, and my American and British Literature at Uni, as well as all my Law and Judiciary classes. Instructive, especially because I now understand the related news.

Dream job? I don’t even know anymore… I’m completely lost. ☹

Basically, I like to think that GZD’s a fan of women’s football and would convince the grid to watch the 2023 World Cup with her this summer

1990s Techno Playlist

Jeez, I really haven't updated this thing in almost a year?!? That's kinda crazy. Anyway, I have a couple songs to add this week to this 90s techno playlist of mine, with one from the Netherlands' Djax-Up-Beats label and the other from Germany's Harthouse label, the latter of which was famously co-founded by dance music legend and pioneer Sven Väth.

So, the first addition here comes courtesy of a Chicago native named DJ Skull, who in 1995 put out Hard Drive, a double 12-inch that closes out with a pretty terrific tune called "Graveyard Orchestra." This is a song that really feels like one of those cruising-through-the-city-on-a-weekend-night kinda deals. Placid strings undergird both a bevy of percussive bits as well as a fun and fuzzy keyboard melody, and it also has a lovely beginning too, which sees more and more elements progressively added, until the four-on-the-floor drum eventually satisfyingly hits, and then the whole thing just proceeds to coast 😎. Currently sitting at over 18,000 plays.

And the other tune I added this week is by Belgium's Frank de Wulf, whose dope as hell, techno-funky banger, "Drums in a Grip," first appeared on a Harthouse compilation in 1995 called Dark Hearts 2. This is one that feels kinda simple in its composition, but it was clearly made for partying to and is just so irresistibly groovy and infectious. I mean, there's really no such thing as mainstream techno—at least in North America—but this is one for the main room of the club, where all the relatively normal people congregate, rather than the dark and dank basement dwellings where a lot of other techno tunes on this playlist happen to sound like the perfect fit for. But be that as it may, "Drums in a Grip" still only has a hair over 18,000 plays on Spotify 😕.

And now for the YouTube version of this playlist, which comes with both of those DJ Skull and Frank de Wulf tunes, but also a bunch of other bonus tracks that can't be found on Spotify at all! I'm not gonna write about every single one of the songs that I added to it this week, but I'd be totally remiss if I didn't at least mention the hypnotic power of German trio Traveller's highly percussive 1997 track, "Motion," which originally appeared on the group's second and final release, a 12-inch on Harthouse called Two. This is a tune that really sounds like a combination of a bunch of different things, including:

a series of very tightly packed and wound stabs which form the track's overall foundation and sound like a washing machine that's running off-kilter;

another piece of percussion that's laid over that foundation and sounds like a bouncing tennis ball;

a constant rhythmic ringing that sounds like you need to pull your car over to the side of the road so you can take a look under the hood and figure out what's wrong with it.

A uniquely excellent tune, to say the least, that's currently at under 5,900 plays on YouTube across a few different uploads.

So, with this update, the Spotify version of this playlist now has 33 songs that clock in at 3 hours and 50 minutes, but the YouTube one now has 72 songs that clock in at 7 hours and 55 minutes! So if you want something lengthy that's packed with much more overlooked and underappreciated techno goodies, then the YouTube one is definitely for you! 😊
