Basic Instinct
Pairing: Alec McDowell x F. Reader
Summary: You and Alec adapt to the realities of a human/transgenic relationship, especially during your pregnancy.
AN: Well, thanks to these lovely souls @winchestergirl2 @sunbeambarbie, and my patrons over on Patreon, I’m back with more of the Being Human storyverse! This idea could become a series of loose one-shots as I come up with more ideas around this premise (navigating a relationship with a transgenic that has…shall we say, animalistic tendencies).
Also, this is my first entry for Jacklesverse Bingo '24!~ @jacklesversebingo
Prompt: She whispers in his ear, and he breaks into a smile.
Word Count: 2.4K
Tags/Warnings: 18+ only. Protective Alec, fluff, elements of scenting, marking/claiming, hint of spice~

Alec shrugs the snow flurries off his jacket and dusts off his hair. He works past the shiver that accompanies the icy slush running off his head and shoulders, down to his boots.
He doesn’t mind the cold in these Seattle winters, but he hates slush. It’s messy and muddy, and the gray, placid sky doesn’t care about how many sectors he has to hit before his run of Jam Pony deliveries are done.
It doesn’t care about how he has to spend a few extra moments dragging the soles of his boots across the faded welcome mat into his apartment, but you do. You’ve got a thing about tracking in mud across the wood floors, even if they are already cracked and squeaky in certain places.
He savors the warmth of the living room when he finally gets inside and closes the door behind him.
“Honey, I’m home,” he calls out tiredly, but with a note of playfulness. He half-expects you to be napping, as you tend to do in the afternoon at this stage of your pregnancy, especially now that the days have gotten so much shorter. It’s already pitch black outside, looking more like midnight than half past four.
To his surprise, you’re not only awake, but you’re zipping up the purple winter coat he got you—the one that actually fits you over your rounded belly. Your head raises, and your face brightens to see him as you wrangle your shopping bag over your shoulder.
“Hey,” you greet him, adding a kiss when you approach him at the door. “I’ll be back in a bit.”
Alec stops you from moving past him with his hands meeting your waist.
“Hey, whoa, where’s the fire?” he asks, his brows furrowing.
“I’m just going to the market. We need a few things. So, you know, we can eat,” you say with a tease of a smile. “You probably had a long day, so you can shower up and chill if you want. I’ll be right back.”
Alec makes a sound of refusal and doesn’t let go of you when you try to keep heading for the door. You raise a brow at him in confusion.
“It’s dark as hell out there. Cold, wet, and muddy, and not to mention crazy traffic with people trying to get home,” he says. “And since I just came from that frigid hellscape, I’m gonna have to insist that you stay here and warm me up.”
His hands begin to sneak under your jacket and sweater layers, and you squeal and squirm a bit as his cold fingers find your skin, teasing your sides. You bite your lip against a smile and push at his chest, no matter how impossible that may be. Alec’s tall, lithe frame might not look particularly strong, but there’s no moving him once the transgenic plants his feet.
Just like there’s often no changing his stubborn mind on certain things, you’ve noticed, particularly in situations like this…
“I’ll be right back,” you say. “An hour, tops. Unless you want rice and canned tuna again, we need food.”
Alec pauses, his lips threatening to frown. But in a moment, a decision is made in his mind, and he grabs your bag off your shoulder.
“Fine, let’s go,” he says.
You pause, watching him open the door and hold it open for you. You sigh at him, but you adjust your winter hat and slip on your gloves before you step outside. Alec once again locks the door behind him and joins you on the sidewalk, slipping an arm around your waist to guide you snug against his side.
It’s both affection and protection. You can tell in the way he “casually” scopes the street, the neighborhood you’ve lived in relative peace for the past six months.
Still, he positions himself between you and the road, where a van zips by. It veers widely to avoid a pothole, looking like it might just take the sidewalk curb along with it. Alec tenses for a moment, until the van finally passes.
“People are freakin’ crazy in this city,” he says, shaking his head. “Just because the streetlights are more suggestion than law—”
“Alec, you drive like a maniac,” you point out. He scoffs at you.
“Oh, don’t even,” you say, cutting him off from whatever smartassed retort he was about to give. “Remember that time you ran into a chicken coop? You came home wearing bird shit and feathers in your hair.”
“Okay, but who keeps live poultry on the corner of a busy four-way intersection?” he grouses. “Make it make sense.”
Although you roll your eyes, it’s hard not to smile at your boyfriend’s antics. You two walk together amiably down to the market while he tells you about his day of deliveries. It weirdly makes you a little jealous. You stopped working after the whole Ames White debacle, when you were kidnapped. (You're still trying to block that traumatic episode out of your memory.)
First, it was just a challenge to figure out where you and Alec were going to live. Logan is generous to a fault, but you couldn’t take up room in his apartment forever. He did make good on his promise to scope out the safest apartment you two could afford: a walkup on the moderately less skeevy side of town.
Alec hasn’t outright tried to ban you from working, but you two agreed that it would be better for you not to return to Jam Pony, both for logistical and safety reasons. Ames White is dead, but the rest of his radical organization—a damn breeding cult—is too well connected for Alec to want to take any chances. They’d likely known where you worked and followed you when you went to Alec’s old apartment that day.
All that aside, however, it’s a simple fact that your poor bladder won’t last five minutes on a bike. It’s really all you can do to walk to the market. The third trimester hasn’t exactly been easy on your body, but Alec hovers close behind you, making sure you choose whatever meat and vegetables you want, regardless of the price.
“Hey, they’ve got turkey. That’s new,” he says, grabbing a large bird off the row of hanging poultry. The smell of its rawness triggers a bubble of nausea, making you turn your face away and cover your nose and mouth with a sound of disgust.
Alec quickly holds it away from you, but he has the guy running the kiosk bag it up for him. You stop him with a hand on his arm.
“That’s too expensive,” you whisper to him in warning, your eyes widening. Alec gives you an easy smile.
“Sweetheart, if there’s one thing you and the baby need right now, it’s protein,” he reasons. “I was planning on picking up some extra shifts this week anyway.”
He gives the man the money without a second thought. You don’t know whether to frown, or shed pitiful tears when he does stuff like that. You’re still not altogether used to it, having someone who takes care of you for a change. You’ve spent most of your life doing that part yourself.
When Alec turns back around, grinning all proud as a peacock at the good deal he got and the haul he has slung in the bag over his shoulder, his expression falls at seeing the tears in your eyes.
“What’s the matter?” he asks, touching your arm. You shake your head with a smile.
“Nothing,” you sniff and wipe at your face. “Goddamn hormones.”
Alec smirks, but before he can tease you, a broad frame knocks into you from behind. It would’ve sent you to the ground hard if Alec’s reflexes hadn’t been quicker. His arms come around you, firm but gentle as he rights you. He glances behind him and bristles with anger, his spine stiff and his body taut. You rarely see that kind of sharpness in his eyes.
They’re gentler when they turn to you.
“You okay?” he asks with furrowed brows of concern. You have to catch a winded breath, but you nod, meeting his eyes. He doesn’t let go of you until you get your balance back.
Then, his gaze flicks up to the man who bowled you over. He stands at the same kiosk Alec got the turkey from. Meathead is trying to buy the last one.
“Alec,” you warn.
“I’ll just be a second,” he says. You reach for his arm and try to tell him that you’re fine, but it’s like a switch has been flipped inside him, narrowing his gaze. He slips out of your grasp and leaves you with the bag of groceries.
“Damn it,” you mutter.
Not even a minute later, Alec swings a quick, exacting fist. You wince as the larger man nearly breaks his jaw on the pavement.
You can’t help but giggle and try to squirm away as he noses along your throat. It tickles. His arms are a loose, comfortable embrace in the familiar peace of your bed. You’re swathed by pillows and warm blankets while Alec is tucked along your side. His long legs bend at a slight angle with his knees brushing your thigh.
“Would you stop already?” you say, swatting his thigh. You feel his smirk against your skin.
“How’re my girls doing?” he asks. You chuckle. He was a bit stunned at first to find out that you’re having a girl. You thought he might’ve been hoping for a boy, easier for him to connect with someday. But the way he dotes on you sometimes, now, you can already tell he’s going to spoil your daughter rotten.
“We’re good,” you reply.
He sighs and settles in comfortably against you. This is your favorite thing, and you think it’s his too. After a long day, it’s your time to just rest and be with each other, either watching TV or catching up about the day. It’s everything and nothing at all.
Eventually, his voice interrupts the quiet again.
“You smell different, you know.”
You quirk a brow at that one. “What do you mean?”
When he shakes his head, you feel the tickle of his hair under your ear.
“Hmm, I dunno. Earthy, I guess,” he says. “Pregnant.”
You have to laugh. “I smell pregnant? Not sure if that’s a compliment.”
“Oh, it is,” he nods. His lips press a line of tantalizing kisses down your throat and collarbone. You smile and curl up a hand to sink your fingers into his hair, gently massaging his head.
It’s taken you some time to figure out exactly what a transgenic is, exactly, and you’ve come to realize that all of them are spliced with a little something special. Each and every one of them, from Alec and Max, to Joshua and the others who live in Terminal City—whether they look human or not, they’re unique in some way. It gives them certain…traits. Ones that betray the animal DNA they were partially created with.
As the events of this afternoon replay in your mind, your smile begins to slip.
“That was too much today, at the market,” you tell him, now that he’s calm. “What happened there?”
Alec stills.
“Nothing, just…you didn’t hear him. The guy was a smartass,” he says.
“What, couldn’t handle a taste of your own medicine?” you quip, but you squeeze his arm gently. It rests above the swell of your belly. “No, it was more than that.”
His jaw clenches; a telltale sign that he knows exactly what you’re talking about, even if he doesn’t want to answer you. You turn your head and scooch back a little so you can see his face better. His playfulness is long gone, but he meets your gaze.
“I think…” you whisper in his ear, tapping his arm with a finger, “that you have a bit of wolf in your cocktail. Not as much as Joshua, obviously, but still.”
Alec blinks in surprise, and he breaks into a smile.
“Oh, really? What gives you that idea?” he asks.
“Do you want the list chronologically or alphabetically?” you say. Alec rolls his eyes, but you level him with a wry look. “Sense of smell. Excessive protectiveness—”
“Excessive?” Alec raises a brow.
“Not to mention the biting, Count Dracula,” you finish, gesturing with a smile at the back of your neck. There’s a mark there that he refuses to let fade away.
Now, he becomes sheepish. His plush lips form a bit of a pout.
“I thought you liked that,” he says, his eyes glinting with mischief. You reach out a hand to cup his cheek.
“Oh, it’s hot as hell,” you tease back. You draw him in, guiding his face to yours for a slow kiss, simmering with heat.
“But it’s…possessive,” you say, after you break from him. Your words are a mere whisper in the small space between your faces. “Like you’re claiming me.”
The green in Alec’s eyes have darkened a touch. They roam your face.
“Well, you’re mine, aren’t you?” he asks. But his tone is deceptive. It’s anything but a question.
Your lips curve into a smile. You thumb at his chin.
“Yeah,” you reply.
Alec’s hand slides up your neck to cup your cheek, guiding you to him this time as he claims you in a more devouring kiss. He steals your breath, over and over, plying you with his tongue and with the weight of his body wrapping around you. He moves you gently onto your side and swipes your hair out of the way, so he can kiss his way down your neck.
He stops for a moment at that mark, where he grazes over the sensitive flesh with a hint of teeth. You shudder. Hot tingles run down your spine, pluming warmth and wetness between your legs.
“Alec,” you breathe, almost on a gasp. You feel him already hard and ready, pressed against you.
“I got you, sweetheart.”
His voice is smooth in your ear, but you’ve known him long enough to hear his need. It echoes your own. You take his hand and begin to lead him where you want him, all while he buries his face into your neck and inhales your sweet, familiar scent.
“Always,” he says.
AN: Short and sweet, but I had fun revisiting the Being Human world. I'd love to dip back in again someday! Until then, I hope you enjoy! 💜

You know what we should bring back?
Older christianity. I mean the anti government, anti military, community based christianity. The one that cared the most about peace, equality, mercy, kindness, and radical love. The one with shared property. The one that didn't conform to society but instead existed mostly outside of it. The one where noone considered one sin worse than another because in the end, we are all sinners trying our best to be better.
#“progressive christians are ignoring the bible except for ”love thy neighbour“”#yeah well LOVE OVER VERSES#quit it. im tired of this. just. can we just be nice to everyone?? please?? peace and love on planet earth??#“being gay is a sin tho” “wow this is so immodest” do i look like i care? does jesus look like he cares? i dont think so.#go stab out your eye or smth if you wanna live by the law so badly huh???#funny how suddenly it isnt literal and shouldnt be done because humanity learned and grew since that was written#*points to the verses used to justify homophobia* i mean literally this whole concept changed since then it isnt even the same thing#screaming at the top of my lungs while punching the wall like please please dont cherry pick the bible#“*blank* is a sin” do you like seafood tho?? is your clothing from mixed fabrics?? did you shave??#im just saying that maybe you should let the spirit guide you instead of following the law blindly. what do i know tho. im just a stranger.#queer christian#progressive christianity#i guess??#my religious rants#leftist christianity? anarchist christianity? i do not know??

So I read this post by @eyesteeth about Rane and I wanted to add my own thoughts on it but then realized that I was more making a post analysing their dynamic with Faulkner then an actual add on to the theory. So here,
THE Faulkner Rane analysis
Rane is a monster of Faulkners own creation. In their first scene together, Faulkner expertly uses the idea of trust to get Rane to open up to him. At this point Faulkner already has his status with him. By making Rane feel special and trusting him. It ensures Rane will be loyal to him because there’s a feigned sense of closeness. All the while Faulkner refuses to actually show anything off himself.
It’s a relationship defined by lies. Faulkner is incapable of making any real connection because he needs to be seen and needs to get that attention, but then feels so utterly uncomfortable when actually perceived (cus he’s never actually been acknowledged like that.) So he builds up a persona around himself. Faulkner is ultimately flawed but those flaws aren’t allowed to be shown. He’s only honest with Rane when it benefits that perfect Image, so that’s all Rane sees of him. (And yes there’s for sure some real paranoia due to what happened with Sister Thurrocks. Which also makes Faulkner keep people at arms length.)
When Faulkner starts realizing his own loneliness it’s basically already too late. He starts craving that true connection that he lacks because he misses carpenter. But Rane has never known Faulkner like that. When Faulkner shows vulnerability, Rane twists it back into the mold Faulkner created. In the same way Faulkner struggles to show his flaws, Rane is in turn unable to see those flaws.
Believing in a god is about faith. Faith is trust in what you believe in, and for allot of people it’s something they cling onto. For Rane, this is everything. They need something to believe in. They have to hold up the cracks, keeping Faulkner together. Because if Faulkner falls apart, their faith goes down with it.
Faulkner tries his best to open up. But there’s no relationship to salvage, because they never truly knew Faulkner in the first place. Rane fell in love with a idea, with what they believed, and not with Faulkner. (Love here is NOT inherently romantic, I’ll BARK at you/lh) And Faulkner let them believe.
And to come back to the post I referenced at the beginning. I don’t think Faulkner is going to kill Rane. (It would be too much a repeat of Thurrocks.) but there will be a breaking point for Rane. I’m terrified of what’s going to happen to them. Faulkner is in a emotionally horrible place, and Rane is going to have that ultimate realisation that they’ve been lied to. It’s going to destroy their entire world and I don’t know what that’s going to mean for them moving on.
Tldr: RANE RAHHHHHHH!!!!
#I am literaly so feral about them#I am not able to function as a human being until I know Rane is save#they deserve better#the silt verses#tsv#brother Faulkner#sibling Rane#ranefall

I support the nuanced and varied debates against ai art from now til kingdom come, but by far my favorite one to use is extremely basic and simple and I will always always refer back to it so here you go:
Art is the expression of the human experience and you can't generate that.
#ragamusings#anti ai#anti ai art#i am versed in the other arguments about the whole system being built on stolen data#so there literally is no ethical way to use it to begin with#and etc etc etc#but art by definition is the expression of the human experience#any whenever you let an algorithm predictive model computing something take over that process#it is no longer art#even if it is nice to behold it is not art

So uhh... we found something really, REALLY strange
As the tectonic activity continues to shift ever more chaotically across the globe, randomly elevating or crumbling parts of mountains, opening up fissures and expanding fault lines, not to mention all the volcanic eruptions, to say it is important to monitor the inner workings of Earth would be a criminal understatement.
On the remains of what used to be Hawaii, now a singular landmass, lies a monitoring station closest to the epicenter of the Fusion Detonation Event, some 400km away. Seismographer and tectonics expert Joannie du'Preeste was finalizing this months deep level mapping of the area of detonation and directly below to give the algorithm-driven disaster prediction model at least an above 50% accuracy rate for this month.
Typical readings, increase in magma outflow, collapses of internal caverns, formation of new ones, and irregular shifts from the various efforts to stymie and direct the disastrous plate movements. Now that Humanity and Earth were properly back in dimensional space instead of in-between, some additional hectic activity in the form of directional nuclear detonation had been performed for the upcoming plan of "plug the hole with a large piece of another planet or moon".
They've selected Sycorax by the way, just waiting for it to get further away from Uranus in its irregular orbit, hook it up to several Dreadnoughts and haul it over to Earth and gently plop it in the hole. It is about the right size and nobody will miss it if it doesn't work.
Anyway, as she pondered the likely inevitable yet another calamitous event we'll be willingly conducting, the mapper finished its work.
At first, more of the same chaos as usual, but something at the back of her mind said to glance closer at the density readings from the deepest level measurements. With not much else to do today before the work day ends, she highlighted the appropriate levels, and as she started to remove clutter data, a shape began to emerge.
A tendril.
While scans and maps often show things that our minds interpret as something already familiar to us, once you look at each individual part, you see that it is just a coincidence. The brain wants to see what it knows to make sense of the unknown, life would be too complicated and overstimulating otherwise.
No mistake, however. As she removed more of the clutter and focused in on the object, there was no mistaking its resemblance to a biological structure. Hints of veins, pores, hairs, scales, needles, eyes... seemingly everything you could find on the surface layer of a creature was there, or parts of it anyway. Composition-wise it was more of the same silicates and such compounds found within the mantle. But... denser, more concentrated, almost deliberately shaped.
She quickly loaded up older data and after a bit of filtering and comparing, sure enough, the same tendril-like structure is there, just a little closer to the regular density levels of the surrounding. Even years old data provided similar results, though you could only find the shape if you already knew it was there.
Loading up the oldest records she had access to from around 300 years ago revealed the same, just even less distinguishable from the surrounding materials.
The scans don't go deep enough to show what the tendril leads to, if anything, but what is it? How did it get there? Why is something clearly biological in structure within the mantle layer? And if it does continue, how far? Does the core of the planet itself house some impossible creature? If so... what does that mean? For Earth? For Humanity? For the Universe? This is way above Joannie's pay grade and expertise, way past her regular waking hours as well at this point, and way too big to know how or if to reveal any information to the public. Some higher ups can have a headache instead.
Maybe the Coalition aliens know something similar.
Maybe this is all a big load of nothing and she just imagined it all.
Yeah.
That'd be nice.
Wouldn't it be nice if Cthulu wasn't potentially real?
#humanity fuck yeah#humans are space orcs#humans are deathworlders#humans are space australians#humans are space oddities#lovecrafian#fiction#short story#story#I'm not gonna tease and slow burn this#I suggested Cthulu exists in this verse so gotta advance that#how is this gonna work? dunno#I should probably read Lovecrafts works huh#cuz right now i'm just improving eldritch beings#also just casually dooming a moon to a pointless death#carionto

Is this fanfic friendly? I feel like an outlier.
I guess this is my sign it's time to throw together a FAQ post to link to lol.
Yes, every event for this blog is fanfic friendly :D
Though as I mentioned on my Ominous October post, for events that include multiple short stories, I encourage everyone to flex their creativity and take one of their planned short story fanfics, and at least *attempt* to turn one of them into something entirely original; rebuilding a character and story from the ground up to stand on its own two legs is no easy feat, and that is what makes it so fun!
It really gets your creative gears turning, to make an "au of an existing material" to be something entirely original, and you can be pleasantly surprised about the things you come up with!
As a few people say, its not just a matter of "filing the serial numbers off" -- you have to add in just as much *or more* as what you take out when you are turning a fanfiction into something that is original and completely divorced from its original source material / inspiration, and that is a hard, but very rewarding challenge!
Obviously, this is not a requirement (there's no hard requirements for any of the challenges, other than no cheating, including no using AI),
but if you would like an extra challenge for the short story events and you're planning on doing entirely fan-fiction, I highly recommend trying it out at least once, and seeing where it leads you--
you may find yourself pleasantly surprised by what you find down that rabbit hole!
#replies#novella november#long rambly tags to follow lol#including anti royalist / anti billionaire shit#ominous october#this is what my novella november is going to be#something that WAS a huge earth-shattering fanfic AU#but before I even got past a WIP Oneshot I'd already realized that what I was planning was going to turn canon so far on its head it would#be unrecognizable and it would be much better off and more coherent if I made it entirely original#so now it is!#not only does this involve changing every single characters name#everyone is now a completely different species other than human because thats always fun#and of course we're also tackling all the issues that had annoyed me in omega verse fics since I was like 14 and liked the#creature aspects but hated the biological essentialism and misogny / caste systems#if your fantasy people have an enforced caste system you gotta actually treat that like the horror and systemic oppression it is#not just say 'biological = right' like dude what do you think people have been saying about real women this whole time????#people literally insist women are biologically inferior to men do you really think supporting that idea is going to make you sound#progressive just because your main character is a tomboy independant woman?#also like she lost all her independence as soon as she found a man to marry so uhhhhh#what happened to being ready and willing to hit the bricks if people kept talking down to you and condescending you for being a woman????#why did you go from independant badass tomboy to fainting damsel who spends all her time worrying about failing to produce an heir#so her husband can take power#instead of just straight up telling your husband#'hey I don't want to deal with the bullshit from your father how about we do the-#- socially acceptable thing and just go off to make our own independant settlement with some of the villagers who are on your side'#like your husband would literally be escstatic about this idea of finally getting out from under his dad's tyrannical thumb#and its more like way more than half the villagers would go with you not just a handful#theyve been sick of the kings shit for years and only your husband's potential rise to rule kept them in check#cus he actually cares about the villagers and goes among them#while still clearly having some biases to work through when it comes to class and gender equality

#anise#murasaki#my ocs#scribblins#because i feel like dumping some worldbuilding:#witches don't really 'do' sexuality the way humans do#because their cultural understanding of gender/presentation is a lot different#tldr ambiguity and neutrality is the default and the specifics of someone's gender are none of your business#unless your relationship with the person requires you to know or they trust you#to the point where even asking for someone's pronouns is considered rude (you're expected to use neutral terms by default)#and even past that they don't have a perception of binary male/female or cis vs trans#you are what you id as and whether or not that's your 'birth' sex is irrelevant (most witches are a little gender fluid anyway)#anyway all this to say is that for anise being bi (or at least the same sentiment) is like... the default in witch culture#but in human culture while it's accepted it's still not the norm#and she's aware of that but knows she doesn't quite understand the full extent of how it's viewed#(hence her anxiety at telling mura)#wow i think this is the most oc lore i've shared publicly for a long time huh#to clarify... this has nothing to do with cs it's original verse stuff#the lines between my fan ocs and my actual ocs are extremely blurred do not ask me how it works

Scratches chin.
While I have already spoilered the Liminal Laboratories plotline, I couldn't completely justify H:SR Kaeya's haunting of Dr. Wuchlock even after he got revenge on him. By this point, the man has been reduced to an husk of himself, and will never harm anyone ''for the betterment of humankind'', as he used to say, ever again. It felt like by robbing him of alcohol and coming to poke at him once a month, for some as level-headed as Kaeya, was a bit too extreme and petty even for him, and I was pondering if to keep this facet of him in the portrayal. But then I thought about the concept of beings of the Enigmata a bit more, and I had the most fucking coming-to-Jesus moment ever. On my own fucking lore for my own fucking verse.
Zoom real fucking close to this post. Put it on 200%, we're going places and you're coming with me liking it or not.
Beings of the Enigmata predominantly act robotic-like and on logic-based courses of actions, and this is essentially what can give an ''off'' feeling that makes normal people question these impostors. Emotions are mimicked, rather than felt, until one starts being more in tune with their human-ification process, like Kaeya does with specific partners of his. A being is going to want to study what emotions are as much as possible in order to pass off as human, but most of the time they feel less of what an human would. Their act is to appear normal, and this has been enstabilished by now in this verse. With this, I imagine that an extreme situation would bring out a extreme emotion- and beings aren't equipped to sustain a large surge of this due to their predominantly logical nature and their unattunement to natural emotions.
And here's my fucking HOLY-FUCKING-SHIT moment, keep following me here: Kaeya acts on logic, as a being of the Enigmata. With this logic, he thought that if he offered himself to the facility's experiments, due to being an Emanator with much more power and features than Hannah, Wuchlock would have accepted and let her go in order to start experimenting on him. It would have given them better results in perhaps a much shorter time, and Hannah could have been let go and returned to wherever her home was with her son. This was Kaeya's course of thinking, and a naive one at that in the simple way beings tend to try and resolve conflict.
And, by refusing this course of actions, Wuchlock did not only did a stupid thing: in a moment of extremely high emotions, he caused an ''injury'' in the very core of how a being works. He refused the perfectly woven logic for a reason Kaeya could not comprehend, and confusion turned to anger as he kept trying to plead with the man who was refusing his solution citing how they were ''at an incredibly advanced point'' in their studies with the being they had captured to start anew.
During his rampage of justice through the facility to free Hannah and her son Joakim and bring down the entire thing, I write him as robotic as possible: during that time he doesn't think with complex feelings, simply hacks down everyone that attacks him or tries to harm his companions, lets those who surrended go, acts ''revenge'' upon Wuchlock, and with bringing Hannah and her son away from the planet, his task is complete. During this time, being gunned down equaled to killing the threat before the armed soldiers of the facility could get to his companions, someone surrendering and begging him to spare them meant that they no longer had any fight in them and could be safely let go due to their ''fear'' perceived as emotion, and leaving the facility meant that they could no longer be captured and harmed. Logical and simple thoughts/actions move Kaeya to the end of this plotline.
After the entire affair is over, it took Kaeya a long while to learn how to get back in tune with the emotions he has explored during his human-ification. It was an huge set back for him, and he doesn't like to talk about these times.
And here we are with the truth of what happened: the anger that Kaeya felt in a moment of extreme emotional distress, due to not being able to understand human logic and having his rejected, was so powerful, so consuming, that it ''burned'' part of him away, as if he was undergoing the being-ification again. In a much simpler word, a failsafe mechanism sprung to life within him. Beings are not supposed to feel this kind of intense emotions, and something that's causing the strong emotional pain must be sacrificed in order to restore and stabilize their status as logical beings, per how they were created to be and continue functioning over the human Fictionologists.
Part of Kaeya, along with his trust in humankind and how they handled things, was burned that day in order to keep him functioning. Part of his emotive growth shut down in order to bring back the ''being'' that he was before ''Kaeya Alberich''.
This explains a lot of things, down to his actions becoming overly-logical and straightforwardly simple after his confrontation with the biologist, to Hannah being so apprehensive about him as soon as she sees him after being freed: the anger burning away at Kaeya should not have happened. It's an alarming thing for beings to experience extreme emotions under extremely stressful conditions.
As for him tormenting Wuchlock: I imagine that beings of the Enigmata stick close to the people who have evoked such strong emotions in them to fundamentally change them. Be it anger, hate, amusement and fun, intense melancholy etc., because it's a foreign thing for them to feel so much, they stick close to the ones summoming surges of emotions out of them, consciously or not. This choice of Kaeya is conscious, and it's as much of a form of revenge as it's the instinct to study what emotions the old scientist with granitic determination that has turned into a frail old man summons within him.
tl;dr: Beings of the Enigmata can feel extremely intense emotion(s) in stressful situations; in these cases, a ''failsafe'' mechanism activates within them, ''burning'' away part of them in order to restore the logic-based individual that they are and keep them going. This is what happened to Kaeya in the LL plotline.
#from another realm ━ (ooc)#riddle me this; is everything that you remember real and nothing but the pure truth? ━ (H:SR V.)#you no longer know me; shrouded in the fog of mystery ━ (H:SR V. Headcanons)#most people i know: curated lore and theories about their stuff#my lore: comes in my room at 4am. slaps me and calls me a loser. tells me to write this the fuck down. i do. it leaves.#i do NOT have control over my own lore. i wish i was joking but this verse is made entirely of sudden dots connecting#i like to think that this is myt.hus way of showing that THEY care about their beings: making sure they never stop functioning#despite the emotional pain they may feel when they humanize myth.us mechanism will always make them function again#i imagine that theyre a bit absentee as an aeon yet omnipresent everywhere... including their creations. this makes me sick#its kae.yas face being all twisted with emotions and then after a long second it smooths over with calm. extremely creepy for me#he may have an human-like body but his mind is far more robotic than anything else. :)

I’d say the only downside of adapting the sandman universe into live action is the creators having to work around censorship. 24/7 fucked me up the first time around but now that I’ve read the comics that shit’s tame in live action. same with the cereal con
I swear to god every page of the cereal convention I had to sit back and go
#I don’t typically watch horror movies because I hate jumpscares#but I LOVE psychological horror that’s what fucks me up the most#so idk if this is me not being well versed in all of horror#but regardless that shit changed my psyche forever#I took a horror literature class in high school and I told my teacher dude we gotta go over some of sandman#and he was like haha maybe let’s not!!#so. do with that what you will#I can sit here with a flabbergasted expression all I want don’t let it fool you I love having to face the horrors of humanity#the sandman#my posts

I…came up with a plausible reason for the just dance verse for my fic. Gods exist in power rangers and just dance in wildly different versions of canon to irl our world. So.
Nobody said where the magical prison islands/mazes/ other various hellscapes the gods were banishing people to were. Nebulous “other place” that could be anywhere in the world in myths. well….
Neptune/Poseidon being a petty bitch and banishing Triton and Calypso feels par for the course tbh
#Youtube#though this would arguably make Traveler worse#god or god like being stranding a human woman in his world?#and it’s a prison?#and most mortals go nuts in hellscapes the gods make?#yea….#but for my ‘verse these two are WHY the just dance verse exist#it’s not canon by any means#it’s just fun#also Triton’s design is gorgeous

Love the idea of Kae painstakingly learning Hilichurian, at first bc he figured it was another skill under his belt then bc talking with them made him curious abt them and their origin
#hc; kaeya#//And then learning they used to be Khaenri’ahn from Dain or the Traveller; or even some other source heckin CEMENTED it to him#//Talks to them in Hilichurl; tries to see if they can understand him in Khaenri’ahn#//If they could; he would actually end up crying—and anyone who knows him; knows THAT is genuinely Serious#//Would try to figure out alternate ways to handle hilichurls around Mond if he could; but it’s tough when everyone’s so set in their ways#//Tries to relocate and tend to as many Hilichurl related commissions as he can to minimize any harm btw human and Hilichurl#//Is prolly another contributing factor why he’d fall in the Abyss verse#//Despairing over their situation then realizing there IS a way to help them; he would latch onto it in a heartbeat#//Perhaps still doubt and be wary; but make him for sure more open to working with the Abyss if only for a Solution#//Only to get Got and mildly mindbroken if he talks to the Sinner/keeps such frequent exposure to Abyss energy#//The latter esp; dude just damn near being driven mad like Clothar the more he harnesses and is entrenched in it#//idk thinking bc i thinks it’s so funny he went as far as to write Venti a threat in Hilichurl that one event lololol

Did that one Steven universe meme trend with your two favorite comfort characters. What do you do when you put two characters who challenge the status quo, are doing their own thing and are now being wanted while being on the run in the same room?
A lot of things actually….
