My Coffee Talk barista, Jamie! <3 I adore this game, and this is my first time drawing “fan art” for it. It’s hard to say whether this is a canon character or OC. He’s the player character in the game, but you don’t see what he looks like. This is who I envisioned. I named him after Jamieson Price, since I tend to think of him as voicing bartenders… which I consider to be kinda similar to a barista job. His skin tone was about the only thing decided for me by the game, along with the shape of his arms and hands. I imagined him dressed like Fujimaki from Megalo Box (voiced by Jamieson Price) in a Viridian green and black vest. While the barista’s way of speaking made it hard for me to imagine him with that voice, I am still very happy with the name, and I often have to remind myself that the game didn’t canonically name him Jamie. I instantly imagined him with slicked back black hair in a ponytail like Majima from Yakuza 0. I felt like I wanted to design a character with hair like that, but didn’t have a story for him. Thankfully, this game helped me with that. Jamie’s personality ended up being a bit more casual than what I imagined when picturing this design, but I still can’t see him any other way. I’m in the middle of the second game now, so if it reveals his appearance, I’m in trouble! Oh, also, he’s Indonesian, like the game’s creators.

Simple is fine, too.

If you're anything like me, you like to be perfect. You like to do things to completion or do things "the best" way. In terms of coffee, this often means that I want to make myself a perfect latte every time I get up in the morning. I used to get really furious with myself when that didn't happen. I mean, I'm a barista. I'm on my way to work, for crying out loud! Why can't I just make my latte at home?!

In terms of executive functioning... that's a lot of steps. I've got to turn on my espresso machine, pour the grounds, tamp them, steam the milk...

It takes a bit of time. But more importantly, it creates more for me to do. It creates more dishes, more expectations... It takes up more energy.

Sometimes, I only have "instant coffee" levels of energy and executive functioning. All I'm able to do is pour the stuff into water, stir it, and hope it's decent.

Sometimes, I only have "pot of coffee" levels of energy and executive functioning. I can turn on a machine, pour some grounds, and pour some water. I can then pour the coffee into a mug and add some cream.

And sometimes, I have "fancy latte" levels of energy and executive functioning. I can break out the espresso machine and pull out all the stops to make a beautiful, delicious treat for myself.

More often than not, though, I'm going to be at one of the lower two levels. See, as ADHDers, we lack a lot of the executive functioning that neurotypicals have. No matter how early we get up or how much we desperately want that latte, it's just not gonna happen for us.

And that's okay. That's how our brains work.

I stopped bullying myself for just "not trying hard enough" a while ago. I started accepting my "instant coffee" days as part of my life that isn't necessarily good or bad, it just is.

I accepted it. I bought some instant coffee. And would you guess what happened? I have coffee every morning before work. I have the caffeine that I know my brain needs instead of skipping it altogether because I couldn't make a latte at ridiculous 'o clock. I start my day with my coffee rather than upset with myself over trying to get my brain to work like a neurotypical person's.

The same goes for other aspects of life, too. Whether it's art, writing, cooking, or cleaning, sometimes the easier option is all you can manage. Sometimes simple is okay too. Something's better than nothing and perfection is impossible.

Soooo Starbucks changed their matcha to 100% matcha instead of it being 50% made of sugar, which is great! But uh, I don't think anyone has told the baristas at mine to use less of the powder now that it's so much more potent. Holy fuck 💀💀💀💀 there is such a thing as too much matcha as it turns out

Multiamory March 2024, Day 31 Prompt- Co-living @polyamships

[Barista is called Amira]

It is simple. It is kind.

With Gala working at the stove making food for them and Amira brewing up their respective drinks. Hyde sat at the table on the phone with his agent.

The fading sunlight streaming in through the open window that they'll have to close soon before the night's chill can creep in and Amira will be off to open up. Flowers sat in a vase on the counter.

The lights being low, and some music playing in the background. As he cooks Gala is tapping his foot along to the beat of the song and Amira is humming along, Hyde is tapping out the rhythm on the table.

It is so wonderfully domestic.

I'm bored, let's keep talking florist Thomas & barista Minho

pt.1

When Thomas finally forces himself to go to Minho's stupid little coffee shop, it is simply to scope out the competition. NOT because he wants to see Minho again.

(Teresa tells him to "go get him" and Thomas scoffs like he doesn't know what she's talking about.)

The first thing Thomas thinks is: there is no way in hell anybody enjoys the sickeningly overpowering smell of artificial raspberry pie

The second thought is: Holy shit.

Minho's either wearing Thomas' flower crown, put the crown on the cash register/sat it on something where he can look at it throughout the day, or has taken a fallen flower from the crown and is wearing it in his hair.

Either way, Thomas can't stop staring.

He watches him bustle around, heating up muffins and grinding coffee beans.

When he starts up the espresso machine, a voice tells Thomas that, now, he must leave. He hates the smell of coffee.

He doesn't move a muscle.

Evil thoughts: The barista and Hyde attending every funeral of the Coffee Talk regulars until they're the last ones left. Trying to find comfort with the only other person who truly knew all of them and understands.
