Provider talking to patient, who was just diagnosed with bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye)
Patient: how dark do the sunglasses need to be?
Provider: for what?
Patient: so I don’t give this to anyone else
Provider: (deep breath). How do you think pink eye is spread?
Patient: well I got it by looking at a girl with pink eye.
Provider: (deeper breath). No.
(And went on to explain how it is really spread)

Eye infections can cause discomfort and disrupt daily life, but effective treatments like Gatifloxacin eye drops provide relief by targeting the root cause. pikn eye
Conjunctivitis occurs when the conjunctiva becomes inflamed due to an infection or an irritant. As a result of this inflammation, the blood vessels in the conjunctiva dilate, causing redness or hyperemia, and the conjunctiva can also become swollen.
The inflammation affects the entire conjunctiva, and depending on the cause, discharge may also be present. Bacterial conjunctivitis occurs when the eye's surface tissues are colonized by normal flora like Staphylococci sp., Streptococci, and Corynebacteria. The epithelial covering of the conjunctiva is the primary defense mechanism against infection, and any disruption in this barrier can lead to infection.[39] Secondary defense mechanisms include immune reactions carried out by the tear film immunoglobulins and lysozyme, conjunctival vasculature, and the rinsing action of blinking and lacrimation.

Conjunctivitis, or pink eye, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin, transparent layer of tissue that lines the inside of the eyelids and covers the white area of the eye. It may be brought on by a number of things, such as bacterial or viral infections, allergies, irritants, or even underlying medical concerns.

YES I SURVIVED PNEUMOCOCCAL INFECTION AND MADE A CELLS AT WORK COMIC ABOUT IT BECAUSE I CAN!
The original Cells at work and all its characters belong to Akane Shimizu!!!
I am too dumb to draw mangas, so read left to right:

To explain some shit:
1. I had azithromycin because I’m kinda allergic to penicillin and I researched how it works. Basically, lots of the antibiotic collects inside the granules of phagocytes (aka. macrophages and neutrophils) and then they de-granulate upon encountering bacteria and fuck them up. Degranulation in Cells at Work is represented with their weapons, hence they got cool new weapon!
2. Azithromycin is a bacteriostatic which means that it causes them to stop reproducing and blocks their protein production. “Molecular machinery” refers to bacterial ribosomes, DNA and other components necessary for protein production.
3. The pills I got were light blue, so I made the antibiotic into blue lightsabers because I can and it’s cool.
4. I had to ship 1146 and 3803. I just had, sorry not sorry.
5. My artstyle is shit for Cells at work, but I don’t care one bit. I’m going to disappear from Tumblr for a little while to work on my actual webcomic that looks decent in this shit artstyle.
6. Yes I was sick for two weeks, it was most likely acute Streptococcus pneumoniae sinus infection. And I also got conjunctivitis, because of course I did. I’m fine now and this comic served as a very good catharsis.

Carlos is so confusing to me in an endearing way like. In pictures it looks like he has conjunctivitis, which means his eye probably got infected earlier, but he thinks it happened from the moment a bug flew into his eyeball???
I’m actually really glad you sent in this ask! Conjunctivitis can be viral, bacterial, allergic, or irritative. In Carlos’s case here, it was irritative, because a bug got in his eye and irritated the conjunctiva. Infection has nothing to do with it.
The -itis suffix in medicine just means inflammation, and inflammation does not automatically equal infection. Tendinitis for example is often caused by overuse or repetitive strain.
This is why doctors ask detailed histories! Patients can present similarly but the treatment can differ depending on cause.

Ontario pharmacies will officially be able to assess and prescribe medication for 13 common ailments as of Jan. 1.
The service is intended to make access to care more convenient by eliminating a doctor's visit, according to a release from the Ontario Ministry of Health. And it's free for patients with a health card, the ministry says.
"Empowering pharmacists to use their expertise to assess and treat minor ailments helps patients get the care they need sooner and closer to home," Justin Bates, CEO of the Ontario Pharmacists Association, said in the release.
The move comes as Ontario hospitals and clinics have been hit hard with a surge in viral illnesses.
The government first announced in July that it intended to give pharmacists more prescribing power in the hopes of reducing the load on primary care physicians and emergency rooms. While pharmacists said at the time they were glad to see the changes, they also said the changes should have been made sooner and don't go far enough.
"Ontario is taking a very cautious approach with only 13 conditions," Bates previously told CBC News. "We need to expand it."
Here are the conditions you can skip the doctor for:
- Allergic rhinitis.
- Candidal stomatitis (oral thrush).
- Conjunctivitis (bacterial, allergic and viral).
- Dermatitis (atopic, eczema, allergic and contact).
- Dysmenorrhea.
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease.
- Hemorrhoids.
- Herpes labialis (cold sores).
- Impetigo.
- Insect bites and urticaria (hives).
- Tick bites, post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent Lyme disease.
- Musculoskeletal sprains and strains.
- Urinary tract infections.
