Do you think ghosts have scars from their human life? Do you think Charles has scars on his back from his dad whipping him? Do you think Edwin has seen them? How do you think Edwin would react to seeing them? The realization of how terrible Charles father was to his beautiful, kind, protective, Charles? I think ghosts would have the scars that they died with, since all the other physical characteristics we see also aren't changed after their death, so yes, I think Charles most likely has at least some scars on his back from his father's belt.

And I'd imagine Edwin has seen them, at least for a few seconds, but might not have connected them with the amount of physical abuse Charles faced, especially if it was just short bursts, and since this kind of "punishment" used to be far more prevalent back in his time. I wouldn't be surprised if Edwin had his own share of scars.

Not that I think that would make Edwin any less horrified to learn about the extent of the abuse, I think he would be ready to get into the second fist fight of his life over it (after Esther, of course), because even if Charles is the brawn of their detective agency, that doesn't mean he doesn't need protecting sometime ♥ And at least they would most likely be able to connect and understand the other's trauma rather well, because it is the same type, just a different flavour.

And on a slightly brighter note to end with: the one thing those scars would be absolutely perfect for, at least, is a hundred thousand kisses once the two of them finally get their shit together ♥♥♥
