"Ekko is in love with Powder, not Jinx, so it wouldn't have worked out either way" is such a dumb argument against Timebomb.

Because yes, Ekko had a crush on Powder when they were kids. Yes, he tried to save Powder from her fate and ended up as rivals instead. Yes, he fell in love with Powder in another universe.

But that doesn't mean he was not willing to fall for Jinx too or that he didn't care about her. He continuously shows, despite not agreeing with her, full respect and acceptance for her decision. He agrees on Powder being dead but still cares enough to refuse to kill Jinx. He cares enough to go back and make amends with her and fight next to her. He cares enough to see her instead of Powder when he comes back from the alternate universe.

"But he still sees her as Powder and that's why he does this. He's driven by melancholy" aren't we all? Isn't Vi, too? And her love couldn't be questioned in any way, either.

Upon seeing the life they could've had together, Ekko goes back to team up with Jinx. Not the way he tried to do in season 1, seeking to save her and then becoming "savior boy". No. This time he goes to see Jinx and Jinx only.

People keep bringing the whole "he loves her past self" argument to fight this but it doesn't really mean anything when he was clearly willing to fall for the girl she is now. We keep forgetting that despite Powder and Jinx being different, they're two sides of the same coin and entity. Jinx is not Powder and viceversa, but Ekko knows that. People act as if he didn't but he's probably the one character respecting that the most while struggling with the change.

He ends up dressing with Jinx's colors. Mourning both Powder and Jinx.

To say he only loves Powder is to ignore his efforts to learn about Jinx because, if he only cared for her past self, he wouldn't have tried to help Jinx instead.

talking about the topic of animated movies not Hitting, I accidentally reminded myself of one time on twitter, I think around the time that Raya came out?? I was poopooing on how much the dragon looks like elsa, and then talked about how I wish 2d animated and hand animated films were still The Medium instead of nothing but the highest resolution skin texture fur textured 3d animated films bc I'm tired of seeing it, etc etc and then someone who I was not mutuals with, they must've been someone working under the disney IP in some form, and must've either done some work on raya or just worked on 3d animated projects in general, replied to me SEVERAL TIMES as if I was subtweeting them, with something to the tone of "just say you hate me and you think my art is trash" and I think about that ALL the time

I think what people mean when they say "I wish the companions were mean/hostile to each other in Veilguard" isn't "I wish Davrin would tell Lucanis to kill himself for being an abomination" but "I wish these companions had some deeply held beliefs about the world they live in that made them clash ideologically with other companions, creating meaningful conflict that would be solved throughout the game and through exposition (like the banters in DAI) instead of minor disagreements that can be solved in five minutes and with me standing between and explaining to them like toddlers why they need to get along".

Like, I really wish these grown adults from wholly different factions with wholly different views of the world and morality would argue about more than, I dunno, what to bring to a camping trip that wouldn't even happen because the south was getting torn up by Blight.

In fact, I wish these grown adults with deeply held beliefs would disagree with me and argue with me about whatever choices I made that conflicted with their view points instead of just going along with whatever I decide, like, say, teaming up with a crime sindicate or supporting a companion becoming undead or not letting the wardens keep the griphons after centuries of history. When I say "I wish I could be mean to the companions and I wish they'd leave me for it" I'm not saying I would be so mean to them as to make them leave me, but I sure as fuck would've liked to have the option to do that so that my choice to not do it would feel meaningful. When DA2 gives you the choice between returning Fenris do Danarius or fighting for him, fighting for him feels meaningful not because it's the right thing to do, but because I choose to do it. If I find Cassandra drunk in a tavern questioning all her life choices it's because of what I chose to do throughout the game.

Few choices in Veilguard feel truly meaningful, and that's because feel choices in Veilguard are actually choices at all.

I just had the intense realization that Alastor, aka the last person in universe that anyone would ever consider to be sentimental or the type to consider his friends family, was the first person to coin the term Found Family in CANON! Legit he was the first to bring up the idea of the Hotel being a family!

YEAH NOW THAT YOU MENTION IT??? I didn't even fully see them as a found family before he brought it up ahah, that line in the song made me think about it harder and be like "Oh wait YEAH they kinda are"

I don't think he was sincere at that moment ("I'm making Charlie believe we are a family so she doesn't feel the need to reconnect with her dad" yk) but it means the idea of them being a family was already somewhere in the back of his head 👀 Alastor is there something you would like to share with the class

anyway to end the series on ganondorf tp's writing, my take (which isn't canon but arguable as a valid "death of the author" read imo) is that he is at his most iredeemable AND that's because he has zero things left to lose and no community left and his goal doesn't even make sense anymore he is parasitic and a ghost and pathologically obsessed by his own godlike legitimacy because that is the only thing he still has and it has prolonged his life in a horrible diminished state in a nightmare dimension so SURELY it must mean something right right RIGHT

not to harp on anyone's takes and this is not apropos of one single post but i genuinely feel like i have had a whole separate perception of tommy as a character than other people in this fandom because every "tommy was ooc" post i see confuses me more and more every day. like ooc in the context of what? what do yall genuinely find so incongruent about his actions in 8x06? not incongruent with the fanon version of him we developed over the summer, but as in what the canon previously established. because in my opinion/experience we knew so little of him, he was literally a schrodinger's character, hence so much of my excitement for s8 was that we would get to see him be a real boy. we didn't know any of his demons, his depth, his interiority, how he'd react during a conflict, his fears, his hopes, his perception of his relationship with buck... we literally just filled in the blanks, and the only thing that was out of character with tommy in 8x06 was that he didn't fit with that filling. the details of the storyline and the execution was stupid (mostly the abby thing) but tommy's actions were pretty in character with what little the show told us about him. the guy who was an asshole out of self-preservation also trapped someone in a relationship to protect himself? the same guy was once again blunt and direct to spare his own heart? like yeaah

I wanted to ask you about Hitchcock 😔 If you're willing to answer, which movies of his do you think are overrated and which do you think are actually good? He's my most watched director (because film school) but I only genuinely like a few of his films and always disagreed with my classmates about which ones were the best

I feel like I'm holding up a Daffy Duck style sign that says "shoot me" because Hitchcock is so well thought of by cinephiles versus me, the basic horny mod who watches movies with hot people in them. With that said, I remember Rope, Dial M for Murder, North by Northwest, and To Catch a Thief all left me a bit flat, because I felt like he was prioritizing pushing technical limits or creating extravagant images over deeper characters and relationships. I love a good technical limit-pushing, but it needs to serve the story! And sometimes I feel like he has an idea he wants to try or an image he wants to show and puts so much focus on developing it that characters' reality and interest kind of falls by the wayside—they become pawns navigating his situations, instead of interesting characters in their own right.

To be fair, this is more a characteristic of his later work than his early work—The Lady Vanishes is one of my favorite movies, and I remember Notorious and Spellbound both being enjoyable when I watched them a few years ago. Again, basic film watcher here. Don't show this post to the Criterion collection.
