kara i need to know more about rodolhov plsss
fae my darling this is my favourite can of worms in my collection thank you so much for asking me to open it <33
okay so a bit of antonin backstory… for me he’s like ten/fifteen years older than rodolphus (who’s around bella’s age imo. born early 1950s) and he comes from a long line of russian pureblood aristocracy so his family lives in russia and he went to durmstrang. so when tom was on his little world tour, post borgin and burke’s hepzibah smith debacle, he meets antonin, like circa 1965.
and antonin obvs is big on the dark arts (which is cultivated at durmstrang) and i personally think he’s super into like spell-crafting and digging into Magic itself and the way it works (source: the unidentified purple spell he uses on hermione in the battle of the dept. of mysteries. i think he made it himself) and that would’ve appealed to tom who wants to know Everything Ever so they like keep in touch. and when tom is back in england and putting pieces into place for his war, i reckon he gives antonin the pitch and it works, so antonin is also one of the earlier death eaters, roughly around the same time as rodolphus…
now getting properly into it!! i think by dint of them both joining around the same time there’s just this immediate tension between them, immediate visceral hatred. like antonin thinks that rodolphus is an entitled, talentless wanker who’s only been allowed into the death eaters bc of his surname and his money. rodolphus thinks antonin is a stuck-up, pretentious arsehole who’s sticking his nose in places where they don’t belong (namely wizarding britain’s politics).
so everything they do starts just being in order to one up the other. they’re making snide comments about each other in all the death eater meetings. they’re fantasising about killing each other whenever they’re out on raids etc etc (and we’re gonna ignore the like. secrecy vibes of the first war and the fact that most of the death eaters wouldn’t have known who else was a de. to me ant and rodo both climb the ranks fairly quickly and in the inner circle there would’ve been less emphasis on the masked vibe bc basically everyone would know each other anyway)
in my little canon one-shot that i’ve been very slowly writing since like. october. the catalyst that turns their enemies into enemies who fuck is voldemort sending them on like an extended mission just the two of them. and they’re trying to make each other look bad the entire time, maybe trying to kill each other a little (‘i can say you just died on the mission, you’re replaceable sweetheart, the dark lord won’t mind’) and eventually, inevitably, the tension reaches a boiling point and they just have to fuck it out
it’s very violent, and bloody and obvs a complete secret, and in many ways for rodo it serves as another little outlet for his anger, and all his suppressed desire yk the vibe, and it’s about the power dynamics and who’s winning their game, and antonin has this whole thing about bella (‘does your crazy wife fuck you like this, roddy?’ <- calling him roddy bc that’s what bella calls him, always mocking) and rodolphus always punches him when he insults her, and it’s all very sadomasochistic and it drives me insane they’re my boyysss. my actual boys. they’re like my main mlm ship i think and i’ve been keeping them in my heart for so long, it feels so good to let them be free

wherever trouble lies
Tumblr media
Summary: Neal sees the path to freedom, and he's willing to cross a lot of lines to get there. Peter can't save Neal from himself.
Pairing: None
Words: 3.3k
Warnings: non-explicit rape/noncon (see the tags on AO3)
Notes: Well this one went a little darker than the last two, and it might need a second chapter. I don't know. I hate leaving things hanging…does anyone want another chapter? Or is it better left sort of vaguely fading into where the show begins? Sometimes subtle is best, sometimes aftermath is best.
================================================
“Neal, what did you do?”
He wakes to the sound of Peter Burke’s voice and for a moment he’s forgotten everything. The shed, France, Tomlins, he even forgets that he’s in prison. His heart thumps in his chest and he thinks the game is up, Peter’s caught him, he’s finally going to prison. And then he opens his eyes and the memory of the last three and some odd years floods him – he’s already in prison, and last night he did something so unbelievably stupid that he’s going to be out of commission for longer than anticipated. He’s going to miss his window and Kate will be long gone.
“I didn’t,” he starts, but it comes out muffled and raw. His jaw aches and moves slowly, too slowly, like a door on rusted hinges. That’s inconvenient for anyone, but for a man who gets by on the use of his silver tongue it’s nearly a death sentence not to be able to speak freely. Peter shakes his head sadly, almost like a disgruntled father. The type who looks at you with those sodden eyes and says earnestly I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed. Like he expected better of his favorite criminal.
“I don’t know what you did or why, but I came to warn you – whatever angle you thought you were working, stop it now Neal. End it. You’re so close to finishing your sentence. If you screw it up now I won’t hesitate…” he doesn’t finish the sentence. Neal knows exactly what he would say. He’ll continue to pursue any outlet he has to keep Neal in prison longer, to extend his sentence. He almost seems to believe that being in prison is better for Neal, that he’s safer where Peter can keep an eye on him at all times. It’s almost sweet in its own misguided way, but Neal hates it. He’s a caged bird and even if one of his wings is badly damaged, he needs to be free to fly.
“I didn’t do anything.” That’s Neal’s story. He places emphasis on the word do, and Peter’s just in tune enough with Neal’s many little intricacies that it feels like a code. Like Neal is telling him something but he just can’t quite find it. But maybe he’s looking too deep into something that means nothing. It wouldn’t be the first time. Still, he’ll remember the way Neal said that later, when he’s sitting alone in his office with his sludgy coffee and the lights of the city at night pouring through the window.

I don’t think Blake is performing on that special. He probably just taped a message.
“Performers will include: Brittney Spencer, Chris Janson, Clay Aiken, Jonathan McReynolds and Tyler Hubbard with special messages and appearances by Backstreet Boys, Billy Bob Thornton, Billy Burke, Blake Shelton, Cedric The Entertainer, Cody Alan, Jackson Dean, Kelsea Ballerini, Max Thieriot, Nate Burleson, Stephen Colbert, Taye Diggs, Zac Brown Band, alongside real life heroes Mark Starling and Tank Spencer and more.”
Some outlets said headliner, other said slated to appear.

Right-wing extremist Candace Owens is blocked from entering Australia
Australia has refused to allow right-wing content creator Candace Owens into the country for a planned speaking tour, with officials saying it wouldn’t serve the “national interest” to welcome the online provocateur. “From downplaying the impact of the Holocaust with comments about [Nazi doctor Josef] Mengele through to claims that Muslims started slavery, Candace Owens has the capacity to incite discord in almost every direction,” Immigration Minister Tony Burke told Australian outlets over the weekend. “Australia’s national interest is best served when Candace Owens is somewhere else.” “Tickets to these events are selling for $100,” he added in The Sydney Morning Herald. “I hope she has a good refunds policy.” Local leaders began pushing for Australia to reject her visa this summer, after Owens described stories about Nazi medical experiments as “propaganda.”

Navigating Narcissism Podcast: Helping Those Who Battle The Self-Involved
Tumblr media
Psychological disorders seem to be trendy, just like fashion, memes, and food. Two decades ago, bipolar disorder was a thing. Any disruptive or toxic person seemed to be diagnosed as bipolar. Today's go-to psychological diagnosis is narcissism. I was at a dinner party where gossiping about non-participants was expected. For every lurid tale of bad behavior, someone concluded with: "They're a narcissist."
Don't get me wrong. The world is full of narcissists, but not every Karen is a narcissist and not every narcissist is a Karen. I think many people have a sketchy idea of what defines a narcissist. So let's try to do that.
"Narcissism is extreme self-involvement to the degree that it makes a person ignore the needs of those around them. While everyone may show occasional narcissistic behavior, true narcissists frequently disregard others or their feelings. They also do not understand the effect that their behavior has on other people."
That's why the podcast Navigating Narcissism with Dr. Ramani can help people to deal with true narcissists.
The elevator pitch for the show is: "We all have to deal with narcissists. Now, it’s time to heal from them. In this groundbreaking series, clinical psychologist and world’s leading expert on narcissism Dr. Ramani Durvasula talks to survivors and experts to help millions left reeling from narcissistic abuse."
The Navigating Narcissism podcast can break down classic narcissistic patterns like manipulation, control, gaslighting, and love bombing and help unpack feelings of betrayal, shame, confusion, pain.
The host of the show is Ramani Suryakantham Durvasula, who is an American clinical psychologist, retired professor of psychology, media expert, and author. In 1989, Durvasula obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Connecticut. She has also received a Master of Arts in Psychology and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Clinical Psychology from the UCLA in 1997.
So the good doctor is eminently qualified.
 She has also appeared on media outlets discussing narcissistic personality disorder and narcissistic abuse, including Red Table Talk, Bravo, the Lifetime Movie Network, National Geographic, and the History Channel, as well as programs such as the TODAY show and Good Morning America.
I mention these TV appearances so you can understand that Dr. Ramani is good in front of the mic and camera. She's comfortable on her podcast discussing one of her areas of expertise, and she's a solid interviewer. Unlike other podcast psychologists, Dr. Ramani does not make extravagant claims about treatments and cures.
Dr. Ramani also reminds listeners that "this podcast should not be used as a substitute for medical or mental health advice." One of the most intriguing yet disturbing episodes was about Hollywood producer Scott Rudin, who The New York Post called "Hollywood’s Biggest A-hole." The male guest was not identified by name and had his voice modulated.
In her opening, Dr. Ramani explains that Rudin is one of those rare producers who have won a EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). But the doctor chides, "You can spell EGOT without ego." The episode is a freak show of horrible behavior by Rudin, who adopts a familiar delusion that geniuses can get away with anything. Listen to the episode, and realize that Hollywood -- with its Weinstein's, Rudin's, Mel Gibson's, Bill Cosby's, -- can be hell on earth.
 Dr. Ramani has an episode on narcissism in the fashion industry. In another powerful episode, we hear from Dylan Farrow, daughter of actor Mia Farrow, about surviving sexual abuse, and one of the engrossing episodes was in June 2023 when Dr. Ramani talked to singer Jewel about how she survived an abusive father, a mother who abandoned and betrayed her and found healing in the most profound ways.
The June 2023 episode with dancer Cheryl Burke relates an all too familiar tale of a family friend who raped her as a child.
In her September 28, 2023, episode, Dr. Ramani eschews guests for an Ask Dr. Ramani episode. Dr. Ramani answered listeners' deep questions about the most difficult - but most effective - way to heal from narcissistic abuse: going no contact. While that seems self-evident as a successful strategy, Dr. Ramani has taught us loyal listeners that narcissists have powerful weapons at their disposal -- gaslighting, playing the victim, love bombing, and blameshifting.
Check out Navigating Narcissism with Dr. Ramani. Whether your particular narcissist is in your workplace, in your family, or in your own home, the podcast episodes can help people identify and then separate from narcissists.
As Dr. Ramani once said, “Relationships with narcissists are held in place by the hope of a ‘someday better,’ with little evidence to support it will ever arrive.”

“Oh, Merlin, tell me, does THE PRINCESS get what she deserves?” She is in THE DEATH EATERS & CLOSED to finding out.“
— she walks through the world as ;
name → narcissa black pronouns → she/her identification → cis female year of birth → september 1958 - september 1959 face claim → sydney sweeny blood status → pure-blood  sexual orientation → up to applicant occupation → socialite amongst high society in wizarding london future information → wife of lucius malfoy, mother of draco malfoy
— she is best described as ;
The sweet scent of freshly important MACAROONS eaten at afternoon tea & PINK CHAMPAGNE poured into a crystal glass. She is the echoing LAUGH in a GIRLS BATHROOM after a WICKED joke is told & a SECRET whispered behind a SATIN GLOVE when no one is looking. She is MANIPULATION & STEEL dressed up as BEAUTY & GRACE . Anything but the innocent FLOWER, she is the SERPENT underneath.
— her story starts with ;
tw: death
The glimmering jewel in the crown of the Black family, Narcissa Black is as feared as she is loved. Beautiful like her mother, yet intelligent like her father, Narcissa believes she is entitled to the best that life has to offer and with her family’s social standing she stands head and shoulders above all. The youngest daughter of CYGNUS BLACK [father] and DRUELLA BLACK [mother], Narcissa was in many ways their easiest child, she was a beautiful girl who liked beautiful things and her mother in particular was happy to give her them. Narcissa completed her family perfectly, giving her mother an outlet for someone to talk make-up and clothing with which bored her more politically minded sisters. Despite their clear differences in personality, Narcissa grew up close to her sisters BELLATRIX BLACK [sibling] and ANDROMEDA BLACK [sibling], though she at times found their behaviour quite tiresome. Like their father Bellatrix was opinionated, though Narcissa noticed she was often forthcoming with her opinion when no one had asked, whilst Andromeda hid her beauty in the pages of a book rather than make connections with other members of their society.
It became clear quite early in Narcissa’s life that it was she that would bear the weight of making an advantageous marriage and to further her family line, with her eldest sister destined for a career in politics and Andromeda presumably for one in academia. Hogwarts school was her first real taste of how to not only command a room but a social group. The moment she was seated at the Slytherin table, Narcissa took note of all of the eligible people who were sorted into her house, careful to ensure that ELEANOR YAXLEY [best friend], KLAUDIE BURKE [close friend], ROSALINE DAVIS [close friend] ZARINA ZABINI [close frriend] and VALERIA BULSTRODE [close friend] had a seat beside her. Making friends from The Sacred Twenty-Eight was of Narcissa’s top priority and like minded witches who were easy to manage were her preferred sort of people. Other names had crossed her list, but the likes of GENEVIEVE AVERY [friend/adversary] seemed more content with making themselves look better and eclipsing Narcissa’s spotlight in the process, which meant girls like ANASTASIA SIMINOVA [friend/adversary] EVORA CROUCH [friend/adversary] and PRIMROSE POMFREY [friend/adversary] stayed out of her inner circle and firmly in Genevieve's.
By the time Narcissa had arrived at school, her sisters had already set a precedent for her arrival. Bellatrix and their cousin EVAN ROSIER [cousin] were merciless bullies who targeted muggle-borns, whilst Andromeda was a well liked model student and prefect, meaning Narcissa was unlikely to be bothered. A model student also and a prefect whilst at Hogwarts, Narcissa was somewhat of a combination of her two sisters, unwilling to back down from a challenge but preferred to conduct her attacks secretly. A persuasive witch, Narcissa was able to convince others to do her dirty work for her. People like RABASTAN LESTRANGE [close friend] took care of her cousin SIRIUS BLACK [cousin/adversary] and the disgraceful group he chose to surround himself with, whilst the occasional bit of gossip and a quiet word to her teachers here and there from herself and REGULUS BLACK [cousin/close friend] or VICTOR YAXLEY [close friend] put to bed any threats to her power within school and helping her secure her spot in The Slug Club, as well as her positions of prefect and later Head Girl.
Finally into the world, the idea of working before she ran her own household did not appeal to Narcissa and she quickly got to work establishing herself in Wizarding London’s social scene. Looking good was a full time job for Narcissa, but she was not your average Sacred Twenty-Eight witch with marriage on her mind. From an intelligent family with important political connections, Narcissa had a sharp mind and was careful not only about what she was saying but what she was hearing and who was her ideal match. LUCIUS MALFOY [friend/potential love interest] had been on Narcissa’s mind for some time. A friend of her eldest sister’s, she had watched him rise in the political world, just like his father had done before him and fancied him as someone she maybe could consider her intellectual and social equal. The two had been getting closer before her world had changed and despite having their best interests at heart, Narcissa is still wounded by the attack on her reputation that followed the untimely death of The Minister’s son BOOKER BAGNOLD [person of interest].
Before his death, her family was established, now they were questioned. In an unfortunate string of events that saw Narcissa accidently holding Booker’s wand that evening due to a plot by her sister gone wrong, Narcissa was forced to endure an embarrassing trip to The Ministry’s integration room, her face on The Daily Prophet and worst of all, her marriage prospect suddenly in a relationship with a Witch Weekly model. Narcissa was outraged. Then her family let her in on their dirty secret. The Dark Lord was a mysterious wizard who had seemingly chosen her family to further his word, a powerful man, unlike any they had seen before, her father and Bellatrix believed he was the key to making their world a better and less tolerant place, leaving people like them at the top without having to endure the likes of squibs and muggle-borns. Narcissa was reluctant to join the ranks of The Dark Lord, until she discovered he had another important follower that wished to rise in his ranks, Lucius.
Narcissa is as content as she can muster being an associate of The Dark Lord’s and listening out in high society for anything that may threaten their plans. Instead she chooses to focus on her image and achieve her ultimate goal. Complete control of London’s high society and the man of her dreams by her side. Calculated, Narcissa has began to insert herself into the life of ANDRESSA PARKINSON [person of interest] to find out her secrets and shortcomings in the hopes of driving a wedge between her and Lucius, though Andressa may end up being the least of her problems. As the most sought after witch in Wizarding London, the target on Narcissa’s back is a large one, with multiple people begging to see her reign at the top come to an end, including those within her own friendship group. There are many who would do whatever it takes to topple her, including using dirt gathered on her more unassuming sister Andromeda in order to do it.
— she is a LEVEL 5 WITCH & readied for war ;

It's a sad time for fans of Hallmark Movies and Mysteries' beloved series Mystery 101.
After four years and seven installments, viewers of the Kristoffer Polaha and Jill Wagner-led movies were stunned to learn that Hallmark chose to end the popular franchise. The network shared the news in the comments of a Facebook post on April 24, which featured a photo of Kristoffer portraying police detective Travis Burke. When a follower wrote how they didn't want the series to be left on a "cliffhanger," the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries' official account replied back with a grim update on the future of Mystery 101.
"We loved making Mystery 101 and we’re so glad you enjoyed sleuthing along with us," read the response. "We want to let you know that our talented sleuths have solved the last mystery and are off the case. In the coming weeks and months there are exciting new mysteries on the way that we know you'll love!"
When fans learned the fate of the Mystery 101 series, it left many upset because the last film, Deadly History, ended in 2021 without a resolution. As a result, they took to the comments section lamenting how sad they were about it not coming back.
"I can't believe this show was canceled. It was so good. Might have to stop watching the channel," one person wrote on Facebook. "Cannot believe you have canceled one of the best!!! You leave us hanging!! Not right!! 😡😡😡," another added. "How can they cancel one of the most popular series? 💔," a different follower said.
As fans of Mystery 101 know, the last movie ended with a time jump almost a year into the future. Jill's character Amy tells Travis that she loved him earlier on, but the final moments see him being surprised by her presence at a crime scene. He then learns the victim is Amy'a fiancé, leaving everyone to wonder what happens next.
In case folks were still holding on to hope that the network would backtrack on the decision, it doesn't sound like this is the case. Speaking with The U.S. Sun, Hallmark Media's President and CEO Wonya Lucas shared why the franchise was axed.
"Well, we hadn’t done it in a long, long time, right? And we just brought the mysteries back," she told the outlet. "We’re just looking at mysteries a little differently now. We’ve created some new mysteries, in addition to some that we’ve had in the past. So, it’s just an evolution of our mysteries. We’re just doing a lot of new things."

Vikki Minor is "COOL" on New Single
Tumblr media
Vikki Minor (FKA “velours”) is an award-nominated neo-90s alt-pop artist proudly from Saskatoon, SK, and now partially based in Toronto, ON. She’s earned nominations for awards like Rock/Pop Artist of the Year at the SaskMusic Awards three years in a row and Pop Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards. Minor’s music is a seamless blend of synth-pop and alternative rock, with powerful vocals and a rock star edge noted by wide-ranging audiences, news outlets, and fellow musicians.
youtube
Produced by L.A.’s Zack Burke and mixed by Dean Maher, “COOL” is Minor’s 90s-referencing, unabashedly fun-loving new single that lists all of the cool things about a person she’s crushing on from afar. It combines a rock edge with its guitar and vocal growls, and an excitedly catchy chorus. If you listen closely, you can hear Minor talk to her crush about his vinyl collection and the potential thrift store date the pair could go on.
Saskatoon’s Rakk Productions tackled the fun, unabashedly earnest music video for “COOL,” with Minor also taking the reins as director. The nostalgic, 2000s-esque music video plays on the silly aspects already in the song and was filmed in a weekend at various Saskatoon locations with a small but amazing team.
We’ve all had a crush – either on a friend or a stranger we saw for two seconds across the record store, where we can’t help obsessing and imagining our lives with them. The colours seem brighter and just thinking about them makes you want to dance on your bed to your favourite CD. I wrote the chorus first and fell in love with the hook, then wrote the verses listing the coolest things about a person I could think of and got a bit cheeky in the bridge about how this crush may not last forever, but it’s “worth a shot!”

Week 3 - Interactive Article + References
The article that I produced is one that I have a strong passion for. The weekly activity was to write an interactive article on a sporting event or moment. Conlen., (2018) states that “the web has matured as a publishing platform: news outlets regularly publish rich, interactive stories…”
The article that written was titled the ‘Carlton Football Club Comeback.’ When researching the meaning and what is an interactive content, (Dhir., 2021) highlights the meaning as a way that “allows people to connect with others or organisations by them active participants in the media they consume…”
The Interactive article taught me examples as to how to engage the audience more, as well as linking statistics, videos, and graphs within the article. These are done through adding what you want to your article via a hyperlink. (Burke., 2022) explains that “these actions and reactions involve the reader in the article, immerse them within it and when done right will hold their attention.”
A lesson learnt was how to produce my own website which would be the place to produce my article from. Websites, like the one that was created are a place a person could read interactive articles and blogs as such on different topics.

Jack Burke Jr., Who Gained 2 Main Golf Titles in a Season, Dies at 100
Tumblr media
Jack Burke Jr., a high participant on the P.G.A. tour within the postwar years who received two main golf championships in a single season, then turned a sought-after teacher to among the sport’s best stars, died on Friday in Houston. He was 100 and the oldest residing winner of the Masters and P.G.A. championships. A consultant of the Texas Sports activities Corridor of Fame, which inducted him in 1978, confirmed the loss of life. Burke’s banner yr was 1956, when he received each the Masters and P.G.A. titles and was named the P.G.A.’s golfer of the yr. His Masters victory stunned nearly everybody. Solely weeks earlier, having gone winless because the Inverness open in Ohio in 1953, Burke, who was 33, had introduced that he was contemplating retiring. And going into the ultimate spherical at Augusta Nationwide Golf Membership, he was eight strokes behind the Masters chief, Ken Venturi, and had not drawn a lot consideration. All eyes had been on Venturi, who at 24 was vying to grow to be the primary newbie to win the Masters. However as Venturi faltered, Burke crept up the leaderboard, passing eight gamers, and received by a stroke. He had acquired some meteorological assist. “I had a downhill putt on the seventeenth gap that was lightning fast, and it was made even sooner as a result of the 40-mile-per-hour wind had blown sand out onto the inexperienced,” Burke told Golf Digest in 2004. “I simply touched that putt, and I instantly thought, ‘Oh, no, I didn’t get it midway there.’ Then the wind grabbed that factor and saved blowing it down the hill, till it plunked lifeless in the midst of the outlet. It was a miracle — the most effective break of my profession.” That June, Burke received the P.G.A. championship, defeating Ted Kroll on the Blue Hill Nation Membership in Canton, Mass., in match-play format, which relies on holes received in a head-to-head contest and never the variety of strokes on a scorecard. All informed, Burke received 16 tournaments on the Skilled Golfers’ Affiliation of America tour, together with 4 in 4 weeks in 1952. The son of a Houston golf membership professional, Burke turned skilled at 17 and joined the tour at 23, hailed as probably the most promising golfers of his technology. In 1949, Burke, by then residing in Kiamesha Lake, N.Y., in Sullivan County, recorded his first skilled win, within the Metropolitan Open, on his house course, the Metropolis Nation Membership, in White Plains, defeating the veteran Gene Sarazen. The victory got here 24 years to the day after Burke’s father defeated Sarazen in a match, as Sarazen ruefully however good-naturedly identified to Jack Jr. In 1952, after his 4 straight tour victories and a second-place end on the Masters, behind Sam Snead, Burke was profiled by Collier’s journal as “Golf’s New Scorching-Shot.” At 5-foot-9 and 170 kilos, he may hit 265 yards off the tee and was a superb putter. Demaret had been an assistant professional below Burke’s father since Jack Jr. was 10. Burke and Demaret instituted a membership coverage — nonetheless in power — below which solely golfers with a handicap of 14 or decrease are admitted. “I liken us to Stanford College, or Yale or Harvard,” Burke informed Golf Digest. “They don’t settle for D college students academically, and we don’t settle for folks with a D common in golf.” The membership hosted the 1969 United States Open and the 2020 U.S. Girls’s Open Championship, amongst different tournaments. Burke went on to earn distinction as a longtime teacher of Phil Mickelson, Hal Sutton, Steve Elkington and different professionals. In his 70s, Arnold Palmer dropped by for a lesson. Jack Nicklaus as soon as mentioned of Burke, “I can’t inform you what number of occasions we have been enjoying golf and he’d say, ‘Jack, how are you going to play from that place?’” John Joseph Burke Jr. was born on Jan. 29, 1923, in Fort Value, the eldest of eight siblings, considered one of whom died younger. He grew up in Houston, the place his father, who had tied for second within the 1920 U.S. Open, was the professional on the River Oaks Nation Membership. Jack Jr. first performed golf at age 6. At 12, he shot a 69 on a troublesome par-71 course. At 16, he certified for the U.S. Open. However at 17, on the insistence of his mom, he entered Rice Institute (now Rice College) in Houston. He left earlier than he accomplished his freshman yr, nevertheless, and have become the top professional on the Galveston Nation Membership. When World Warfare II broke out, Burke joined the Marine Corps and taught fight conditioning, together with judo. He joined the P.G.A. tour after the battle (it formally turned the PGA Tour in 1968), moved to New York State and in addition taught golf at golf equipment in New Jersey and New York Metropolis. He first gained broad consideration in 1951, when he recorded two commanding victories in that yr’s Ryder Cup competitors. New York City Judge Valentina Morales released a homeless man without bail after he was charged in the violent assault of 24-year-old Jill Burke in Union Square on Jan. 31. Morales ignored prosecutors' request for $20,000 cash bail or a $60,000 bond.
According to the New York Post, 50-year-old Eric Taylor was previously convicted on two prior felonies, and 22 misdemeanors. Judge Morales released him, but he was arrested again six days later for burglary where Judge Michael Gaffey jailed him on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
Burke told the outlet that the incident happened around 10 a, on Jan 31. As she was walking to work she was hit in the face by a bag of what felt like glass bottles and fell to the ground.
“He was carrying a plastic bag full of things in one hand and kind of pointed at me with the other hand like he was aiming,” she said. "He took the plastic bag and hurled it at my face from about two feet away. I fell to the ground and then he just walked away.”
Police were able to track Taylor to a nearby electronics store where he admitted to the assault. Court records show, "he thought she was a spy and was plotting against him."
Prosecutors alleged, "This is a stranger assault in which the defendant threw a shopping bag filled with various hard objects at a complete stranger’s head for no reason."

"John Thurtell, who in 1823 bludgeoned William Weare to death, became the subject of the first ‘trial by newspaper’. William Catnatch printed 500,000 copies of an account of the trial, the story was the lead item in the London Chronicle, Times, Morning Herald and Observer, two melodramas were written for London theatres (one before the case had even been tried), tourists arrived in droves for a tour of the murder scene, and balladeers made a killing selling songs based on the crime. 40,000 people turned out to see Thurtell executed, and the marketing of his story continued long after his death, as did his influence on the press.
The same grisly pattern was followed in the later cases of Maria Marten and the Red Barn (where Marten was murdered by William Corder), Burke and Hare (who sold the corpses of their 16 victims to an Edinburgh doctor for his anatomy lectures), and the Edgware Road murder: the crime for which James Greenacre and Sarah Gale were convicted, and the case on which The Unseeing is based.
Crime news was now prime news."
with the grim interest of the 19th century in regards to murderers and their punishment making itself well known. it's interesting to note how it's popularity coincided with the suppression and decline of outwards acts of violence - providing an outlet, and how it paved the way for the enjoyment of violence in popular culture. though much less extreme, of course.
