Julie and the Phantoms vs. Julie e os Fantasmas
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had recently been practicing my Portuguese and listening to music in that language, which lead me to the soundtrack of Julie e os Fantasmas. The original Brazilian version of the show. Funny how music works, because the more I listened to the songs the more I remembered about the show. Which is why I decided to make a list about the main differences between the shows.
First, the Brazilian cast and the name of their counterparts so you know who am I referring to:
Tumblr media
Side note before we start, their music is also pretty cool. My favorite one is Essa noite somos um so (Tonight we are one).  You can find it on Spotify:
The Brazilian show lasted 1 season with 26 episodes, which were divided in two parts from 2011 to 2012. However, the show was always planned with one season only, so it had a proper closure.
In the original version, Julie isn’t dealing with the loss of her mother. Her mother is alive but decided to take a job far away from them, which leads to Julie resenting her because she feels that her mother doesn’t care about them and only shows when it is convenient for her. This makes Julie feel invisible across her life.
Both shows revolve around music and how much Julie loves it. Julie (BR) suffers from stage panic, one of the reasons she had never sing in front of people. The phantoms help her with this. Also, her preferred instrument is the guitar.
The phantoms had a more tragic death on the BR version. They were trying to replicate The Beatles’ Abbey Road cover, but where hit by a truck and died instantly. One member was alive, but he retired from the music industry after the accident. They had been dead for over 30 years and were trapped on a vinyl record instead of a CD.
The phantoms don’t have their instruments like the new version. After they help Julie with her stage panic, she buys them new instruments and decides to form the band.
The name of the band on the show is Os Insólitos (The Unusuals). They play in different venues and parties across the season. Unlike the new version, they sing the same songs repeatedly across the episodes. There are some special episodes where they reveal a new song.
The Julies share basically the same personality on both shows. Martim and Reggie are also really similar, being a flirt and a little bit clueless. Felix is way more anxious and fearful than Alex, he was scared of ghosts since he was a kid and being turned into one didn’t help with that. Daniel and Luke are probably the ones with different personalities, while Luke is this cutie that falls for Julie almost immediately; Daniel is egocentric and cold at the beginning of the show. It takes a long time for him to warm up to Julie and is resentful against the world for what happened to them. He had a lot of character development during the season.
Pedro (Carlos) and Bia (Flynn) learn about the ghost right after Julie does. Pedro and Martim develop a friendship based on pranks and jokes.
Julie, Pedro and Bia are the only ones that can actually see the phantoms. Whenever they play in the band, they hide behind masks and keep the idea as a mystery to attract followers.
Julie and Thalita (Carrie) were also friends when they were younger. The reason their friendship didn’t lasted, was because Julie realized that Thalita was a bully that picked up on other girls. Julie cut out all communication with her, which Thalita didn’t took well and continued to antagonize her until they were teens.
The main difference is that Caleb doesn’t exist in this original version, there is an agent of the Ghost Police that looks for the boys because he is convinced they escaped the rules of death. They should have crossed over, but never did. There also some kind of ghostbuster that is looking for them.
At the end of the first part of the season, the boy say goodbye to Julie because they are planning to cross over; however it is later revealed that the ghostbuster capture them. They manage to escape and return with Julie.
Daniel develops feelings for Julie in the second part of the season, Julie also starts liking him, but she also likes Nicolas who had been her crush for years. Nicolas and Julie start spending more time together after he broke up with Thalita, and he develops feelings for Julie. At the end of the show Julie ends up choosing Nicolas, because she had liked him longer and he makes this grand gesture for her at school. She has a talk with Daniel about what they feel, and they both decide to still be friends and continue with the band.
Some fun facts: The show was sponsored by Monster High, so you can see a lot of merchandise in the show; Julie even dresses up as Frankie Stein for a Halloween party. The show was super popular, earning nominations for Kids Awards in LATAM.

So I stumbled across your art and gotta say I'm a huge fan,I've always admired artist that put in the work to become great artists since I could never put in the work myself, which it what brings me here. Going through your art brought back this strange idea I wanted to see awhile back. It was my 2 all-time favorite characters ever fused together into 1 character those being Arata from BRS 2012! and Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls. And I hope ya do,have a spectacular day!

Hey! Your bunch of people who for some reason likes to watch people of age doing strange things in a game of cubes.
Directly from a Brazilian who accompanies or accompanied the New QSMP participants, here is a short summary of what to expect from the BRs.
Forever - he's been on youtube for a while, in his minecraft content, the guy is a real chaotic, who loves to make amazing constructions like a philza's style and laugh. he will probably go around spreading the "brazilian word" and that it will probably just randomly appear in the house of other members friendily bothering them. Also, don't be surprised if he calls philza just Brunin, it's a joke between us BR that I'll let Forever explain
Tazercraft (Pac and Mike) - Or those two are one big double package! been on youtube for a long time, and had a big hit with their RP series "herobrine the legend",quote this series to a 19 or 20 year old brazilian and they will probably freak out at you. Pac and Mike have a very cute platonic couple dynamic, BUT THEY ARE JUST FRIENDS! them content is very family friendly, but that doesn't stop both of them from being great in RP and causing a lot of chaos.
Cellbit - Hold on to your chairs, Cellbit is one of the biggest Brazilian stremers, his focus is far from minecraft, in fact, the last time we saw him play was with Tazercraft around 2016, him main focus is on its tabletop RPG universe, which has a huge and somewhat passionate fanbase. BUT! this does not mean that the guy is bad at minecraft, he is a true mad scientist around 2012 when he still had his focus on minecraft, created things that drove the public crazy. his content is not pg, in addition to being a very experienced actor thanks to his RPG, if Cellbit fails in the RP, expect a very well written character.
Felps - a great streamer too, with a focus on varied gameplays, I admit he's the one I know least. i can say that he is not the best minecraft player, but he is a very funny, loving and patient person. expect to see him being dragged around by cellbit, pac and mike while they all know the server, also, felps is known to be random, so expect very unusual situations

The Lost Special
CW for discussion of sexual abuse and capital punishment.
Originally published in The Strand in 1898, i.e. during the hiatus years, this would be collected with a bunch of other Doyle stories in the Round the Fire Stories collection released in 1898. Doyle continued to have stories regularly published during the hiatus.
The London and West Coast Railway Company is fictitious; the company that operated the line discussed in this route was the London and North Western Railway (LNWR), the biggest revenue earner of the period due to the sheer size of its operations. It would become part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) in 1922 during "Grouping" i.e. the merger of British railway companies into four major ones. The LNWR name came back as the London Northwestern Railway brand of West Midlands Trains in 2017, operating commuter and semi-fast services from Euston. That franchise is due to operate until 2026, at which point, considering the likely result of the upcoming election, it will be nationalised. What happens to the name after that remains to be seen.
Liverpool Central refers to two stations. The one here is the six-platform "High Level" station, opened in 1874 as the headquarters of the Cheshire Lines Committee (CLC) and offering services to Manchester Central, London St. Pancras or even Harwich for the ferry services to the Netherlands. The CLC remained independent after Grouping
There was also, slightly to the North West. the 1892-opened "Low Level" station, that was underground, opened by the Mersey Railway, but with staircase access to the High Level one and provision for a through railway connection left to that station if it was decided to join the two lines. This operated local trains towards Birkenhead using the world's second underground railway after London. This also stayed its own operation after Grouping in 1922; both companies would become part of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948.
In 1966, the Beeching Axe saw the High Level station have nearly all its services diverted to Liverpool Lime Street, with only those to Gateacre still calling there. BR wanted to stop those entirely, but local opposition prevented that. With no need for six platforms, two become a car park and the station ended up with just one functional platform in 1970, ending up in rather a state of decay. It shut entirely in 1972 and was demolished, the Gateacre services going, along with the whole North Liverpool Extension Line.
The Low Level station, however, still very busy, would have better fortunes - it would become the centre piece of the new Merseyrail network. The station was renovated, the two lines were linked and today Liverpool Central is one of the busiest stations in the UK outside of Greater London. However, the eastern part of the planned loop, including services to Gateacre, fell victim to budget cuts in the late 1970s.
Rochdale is a town in the Greater Manchester area - at the time it was a textiles hub, but that very much declined from the 1950s and the place has acquired a bad reputation. In 2012, a child sex abuse ring involving British Pakistanis "grooming" white girls was convicted in a high-profile trial and the resulting public reaction was, to put it mildly, racially-tinged. It also came out that the town's deceased former MP (who had in fact been knighted), one Cyril Smith, was a paedophile.
"Specials" refer to trains arranged outside the usual timetable, often in connection with some event. These included football excursions (or FOOTEX in BR parlance) carrying fans to away games around the country. In the hooligan-heavy 1970s and 1980s, BR would use older carriages due to the frequency of them getting damaged by drunken supporters, the whole thing becoming a policing headache. Others included various enthusiast-oriented journeys and "Merrymaker" mystery trips, usually to a seaside destination.
The main companies do not really do these today in anything like the numbers they used to, but various private companies have stepped in, including a West Coast Railways Company oddly enough, that provides the rolling stock, locomotives and drivers for the Jacobite tourist service from Fort William to Mailaig. These charter trains can be found operating multiple times a week, being sold through various different companies. Most use heritage rolling stock with vintage steam or diesel engines involved, with a variety of types catering to your tastes, although a big wallet is generally needed. Like at least £100 for standard class without dining and even then the schedule might not be the most convenient; these trains are planned around the regular services and you might have a long wait sitting in sidings for the next bit of your path to be clear.
In any event, the special train would have cost around £5,412 adjusted for inflation. However, a cursory glance suggests it would actually cost far more to do that today - hence the high prices modern "specials" charge passengers.
Signal boxes were required to log the details of trains passing through - the type could be identified by various lights arranged on the front and later the specific service by four-character codes. Today this is done electronically and monitored at larger control centres - older boxes have generally closed, with some being transported to heritage railways for their use. I would assume that the stations not mentioned did not have their own signal box.
In terms of the stations mentioned here, these were on the 1830-opened Liverpool and Manchester Railway, the first intercity railway in the world.
This route is today part of the City Line in the Merseytravel Network - trains are today operated by Northern or TransPenine Express. It was electrified in 2015. For each station in turn...
St Helens Junction: Still open.
Collins Green: Closed 1951.
Earlestown: Still open, despite being listed for closure in the 1963 Beeching Report.
Newton-le-Willows: Still open. Even had a Motorail terminal for a while, but this is long gone.
Kenyon Junction: Closed to passengers 1961, shut entirely 1963. Various locals have called for reopening it.
Barton Moss, closed 1929.
Parliamentary trains are those which railway companies had a legal obligation to operate - basically to provide cheap services for workers. This could mean one train per day on a route. Some did the bare minimum, some did a lot more. With this requirement no longer around, the term has evolved to mean services run at the legal minimum, even as low as one train a week, because it's cheaper to do that rather than go through a closure process. In some cases, the route would be used for engineering work diversions and so it is needed to keep up driver familarity. Current examples include Pilning, which has two trains a week on a Saturday. The most notable is Teeside Airport, which is meant to serve the airport of that name that operates four to six passenger flights a day, but is a fifteen-minute walk away, so getting a bus is much more preferred. This got one train westbound a week until May 2022, when its platform was deemed unsafe and Teeside International Airport refuses to pay for repairs.
Railway companies had their own police forces; these would later come under the British Transport Police.
Many mines and industrial planets had connections to the national network for transporting goods like coal or clay; BR even developed a "Merry-Go-Round" system allowing hoppers to be filled up and emptied while moving at a very slow speed to save time on shunting; newer versions are still in use, despite the coal market having massively declined. Mines would have their own engines - the nationalised National Coal Board kept steam locomotives going until 1982, 14 years after BR stopped using them, with some of their former engines now featuring on preserved lines.
The Vistula river runs through central Poland, including Warsaw.
Many mines would be closed once their seams were worked out to the point of it being now longer economical to run; some are now tourist attractions, at least in limited sections.
France used the guillotine for capital punishment until the abolition of that in 1977. It would also be extensively used, in a slightly different form in the German states, including extensively by the Nazis, until 1966, when East Germany switched to shooting people in the back of the head.
New Caledonia is a French territory in the Southern Pacific that was used as a penal colony at the time; it is currently in a state of political turmoil in a row over expanding the franchise to cover more recent arrivals, something opposed by indigenous groups seeking independence. The proposal has been suspended at time of writing due to France's upcoming elections.

9. What's Wrong with Me - TMNT 2012
A follow up to Day 2. Raph gets hugged, held, and loved.
Raph wakes up exhausted. He's waspish without trying, takes offense at every look and touch and tease, and he just knows. He doesn't even bother pretending to meditate before training. He counts his breaths, staring at a candle until his eyes unfocus, and all he can hear is his racing heartbeat.
Sensei pairs him with Mikey for sparring, and he thinks, hopes, maybe this'll help? Maybe he just needs to twist, and kick, and punch the buzzing ache out of his limbs. Maybe it'll be enough.
It's not.
Because Mikey is determined to show him up today, and boy is he in fine form. He can't get a single hit in with sai, fist, or any other part of him. Mikey is completely untouchable as he dodges and flips and taunts and laughs and laughs and laughs.
And for a single terrifying second, Raph really truly wants to maim him.
So he runs.
Casey, for once, doesn't ask stupid questions when Raph shows up unannounced at his window. He tugs on his gear and leads the way to heads that need cracking. Doesn't seem to mind his silent company either, which is pretty cool of him, but apparently not at all what Raph needs.
Sparring with Mikey had sparked this painfully angry feeling between his lungs. The thing sitting tensed in the hollow of his belly all morning tore itself out of Raph's body, uncaring of who got hurt so long as someone did. But at some point between here and the sewers, it curled back into his shell. Now, that's all Raph wants to do.
The thought of fighting punks with Casey, even just being around Casey, is drawing his skin too tight. They haven't said a word, but everything else is too loud. The cars, the street lamps, his thoughts, his skin, and his feet hitting the concrete. The longer he runs beside Casey, saying nothing, the more inches gained against rage give way to something sticky and cold and awful in an entirely different way that he can't explain.
So before his spiraling thoughts can send him tripping off a roof and long before they find anyone to beat up, he ditches his best friend and makes the march of shame back home.
What's wrong with me.
He stops before the turnstiles. The same thought looping in his head since he left Casey.
What is wrong with me.
Training is long over. Two fists against his plastron. The awareness that someone might be in the main room. He doesn't move.
He doesn't want. He can't. He should go to his room. Crawl into bed, then his shell. Sleep for the next week. He hasn't eaten. Spike needs to be fed. He stands at the top of the stairs. He thinks he might be stuck.
What is wrong with me?
Something moves. Someone. Leo. Not Leo, please. He looks at Raph and sees something small and fragile and prone to tears. Something five. Something gone gone gone.
Maybe that's just in his head, too.
What is wrong with me!
"Piss off, Leo." He unsticks. He steps. He stops.
"Raph, wait." Leo shuffles. Nervous. That's wrong.
Viscous oil fills his lungs. A familiar anger reserved for his own wrongness. His big brave brother is nervous worried afraid. Of him.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH
"Do you want a hug?"
He blinks.
Blinks again.
Blinks at Leo, and his brain restarts.
Leo walks closer, and now Raph can see slow, steady purpose in his steps. He's telegraphing and deliberately noising his footfalls. Not with fear or anxiety, not even mischief, as far as he can tell. There's a careful look of concern that speaks to something more. He stops just an outstretched arm's length away, posture open and patient.
It isn't much work at all to stumble into his brother's arms, to let them encircle him with their impressive strength. When Raph starts sinking, Leo drops to the floor with him, never letting up on his fierce hold.
At last, the awful throbbing thing that sometimes takes residence in Raph's chest is soothed.
"I love you, bro," Leo says, quiet and warm and just for him.
Raph hugs back fiercely enough to push a wheezing laugh out of his big brother's lungs.
