I always say the shingles saga as an immunocompromised sixteen-year-old was my near-death experience but then my mom will occasionally make musings of the time my heart stopped when I was 8 and I'm like oh yeah that happened
#supraventricular tachycardia#technically it wasn't the SVT that did it that was doing the oppsite and making my heart beat AT LEAST two hundred BPM#(machines at the time didn't go past two hundred BPM so we have no way of knowing how fast my heart rate actually was)#it was the adenosine they gave me to TREAT the SVT that caused my heart to stop lmfao whoops#it wasn't for very long but my mother can't tell me how long it was bc she said her heart was stopping in that moment too#it didn't take long for my heart rate to shoot back up to two hundred beats per minute tho#the uncomfy part of remembering all this is that I was conscious and cognizant of all of it as it happened#my heart stopped but my brain still was functioning and at no point during this crisis was I sedated#so I'm just lying in bed terrified as I watch my heartbeats on the monitor go from two hundred to the tens to single digits in the span of.#...fast#I blocked the memory out for a years until I read the account of a girl whose was awake when they used the heart shock paddles on her#and was violently thrust into my 8 year old body clutching the hospital bed watching the heart monitor rapidly ticked down#when the flashback was over I assumed I was over empathizing with the story but when I asked my mom she said that's exactly how it happened#we both recall shock paddles being pulled out at some point but they were never used#i don't remember if that was during the adenosine tho or at some other point during the emergency#as far as I know shock paddles aren't actually used to restart flatlined hearts like on tv#they may have been pulled out before or after to shock my heart out of tachycardia but again were never actually used#anyway fucking wow it's always interesting to remember this factoid of my silly life#near death experience#if you think it's weird my mom will bring it up out of the blue I'm ninety nine percent certain she has PTSD from this event#she's more traumatized than I am about it at any rate. like I said I have to be reminded it even happened#medical trauma

120 BPM (Beats Per Minute)
Movies watched in 2024
120 BPM (Beats Per Minute) (2017, France)
Director: Robin Campillo
Writers: Robin Campillo & Philippe Mangeot
Mini-review:
What a powerful and impactful film. It left me both floored and speechless. I think it should be mandatory watching for younger queer generations, cause it feels like many of them have forgotten what our predecessors had to go through to build the society we currently live in (even if there still are many things to fix). It's definitely a hard, painful watch, but trust me when I tell you this: it's absolutely worth it. And even if you're not interested in these topics, the movie is superbly directed, written and acted. It's clear that everyone involved set out to give this story the special film it deserved. And thanks to them, I won't forget about 120 BPM anytime soon.

Understand Beats Per Minute (BPM) in Relation to Heart Health: Everything You Need to Know
Beats per minute is more important in knowing the concept when trying to prevent or protect against cardiovascular diseases. BPM measures the number of times the heart beats within a minute and denotes the real cardiovascular health condition. These words will definitely take a different meaning to different people, whether it be in the context of monitoring heart rates for fitness or stress…

210 BPM?! Are you ok?
Tickling and Heart Rate 2
Since most people said the maximum bpm for the last poll (170 bpm), I wanted to do a second part to this poll to see how quickly everyone's hearts beat when being tickled. Furthermore, I will be VERY concerned if people pick 190 bpm and above

🩺 GASS (Gallifreyan Assessment Scoring System)
BIGGER - Google Drive: PDF / Image JPG / Image PNG
This guide is for use on Gallifreyans and Time Lords only. Always seek your human advice from human health providers.
✨ What is GASS?
The Gallifreyan Assessment Scoring System (GASS) is a tool designed to rapidly evaluate a Gallifreyan's condition. By monitoring vital signs and unique Gallifreyan indicators, it prioritises emergency responses while accounting for their distinct physiology, such as dual hearts and regenerative abilities.
📈 What's New in GASS?
This updated version of GASS includes critical refinements for more precise assessments. New categories have been added, such as Heart Rate Differential (HRD) to flag discrepancies between the two hearts and T = Responds to Telepathy in the level of consciousness scale. Adjustments to thresholds for vital signs and regenerative glow visibility also improve detection of emergencies like fibrillation or post-regenerative trauma.
📝 How to Use GASS
1️⃣Initial Observations
Ensure the environment is safe (e.g., no stray Daleks).
Observe for immediate signs of distress: skin colour, breathing effort, or lack of responsiveness.
2️⃣Evaluate Vital Signs and Assign Scores
Refer to the GASS table to assess each category:
🌬️ Respiration Rate: Count breaths per minute. Adjust for respiratory bypass if present.
🫧 Supplemental Oxygen: Note if oxygen support is in use.
🌡️ Temperature: Measure orally.
💓 Systolic BP: Record using a normal sphygmomanometer.
💖 Hearts Rate (Combined): Count the total bpm across both hearts.
🔄 Hearts Rhythm: Sequential beats (thud-thud, thud-thud) are normal; synchronous beats (thud-thud together) indicate fibrillation.
⚖️ Heart Rate Differential (HRD): Calculate the bpm difference between hearts; large discrepancies suggest possible singular heart failure.
🧠 Level of Consciousness (AVPTU): A = Alert, V = Responds to verbal stimuli, P = Responds to pain, T = Responds to telepathy, U = Unresponsive
✨ Regenerative Glow: Check for visible energy on the skin.
3️⃣Check for Healing Coma
If 8+ healing coma criteria are met:
Cease active interventions.
Monitor closely for changes.
Avoid premature waking to prevent neurological damage.
4️⃣Calculate Total GASS Score
Add up the scores from all categories:
0: No concerning changes. Continue routine monitoring.
1–4: Mild to moderate changes. Perform an ABCDE assessment and increase monitoring.
5–8 or 3 in single score: Severe changes. Perform ABCDE, escalate care, and consider sepsis.
≥9 or Glow = 3: Extreme changes. Initiate emergency intervention, constant monitoring, and prepare for sepsis protocols.
5️⃣Reassess After Interventions
Following each intervention, reassess the GASS score to adapt care and ensure stability.
🚨 When to Escalate
Critical signs: Synchronous heartbeats, extreme HRD, or GASS score ≥9.
Sepsis or Specific Emergencies: Use respective protocols for management.
📌 Key Points to Remember
Combine GASS results with clinical judgement.
Healing comas are protective states—let them run their course.
Escalate care if in doubt.

At the "Dusty Desert Sound Festival" there's a very peculiar DJ tonight. He's know for a very different show that happens each time during his parties, he calls it: "the cardio-beat dance". After a couple of hours from the beginning of the party he takes a volunteer, places it in front of the "Beats Wall" and puts an electode and a sthethoscope on her/his chest. The volunteer's heartbeat is used as a bance for an improvised mix. A beating heart is projected on the volunteer's chest, more or less in the correct anatomical position, reporting the beats per minute to give "see through" idea. The volunteer remains in front of the wall for some time while the audience dances to the rhythm of his/her heartbeat.
Simòne waited for that moment the whole night, doing anything to speed up her heart rate. She jumped, screamed, drunk, took stimulants... anything. When the time came she was so wild the DJ obviously chose her. Even before the steth and the electrode were placed anyone know it would have been something extreme just by looking at how her chest was throbbing.
"Wow, more than 200 bpm! unbelievable, baby!! We have a crazy lady here!!" Exclaimed the DJ when her heartbeat appeared on her chest.
The party went wild with the whole audience dancing at such a crazy rhythm.
(what's not said is that by exhausting so much her heart like this, Simòne had major arrhythmias for a month after the party)

House is a music genre characterized by a repetitive four-on-the-floor beat and a typical tempo of 120 beats per minute as a re-emergence of 1970's disco. It was created by DJs and music producers from Chicago's underground club culture and evolved slowly in the early/mid 1980s, and as DJs began altering disco songs to give them a more mechanical beat. By early 1988, House became mainstream and supplanted the typical 80s music beat
House was created and pioneered by DJs and producers in Chicago such as Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Jesse Saunders, Chip E., Joe Smooth, Steve "Silk" Hurley, Farley "Jackmaster" Funk, Marshall Jefferson, Phuture, and others. House music initially expanded internationally, to London, then to other American cities, such as New York City, and ultimately a worldwide phenomenon.
In its most typical form, the genre is characterized by repetitive 4/4rhythms including bass drums, off-beat hi-hats, snare drums, claps, and/or snaps at a tempo of between 120 and 130 beats per minute (bpm); synthesizerriffs; deep basslines; and often, but not necessarily, sung, spoken or sampled vocals. In house, the bass drum is usually sounded on beats one, two, three, and four, and the snare drum, claps, or other higher-pitched percussion on beats two and four. The drum beats in house music are almost always provided by an electronic drum machine, often a Roland TR-808, TR-909, or a TR-707. Claps, shakers, snare drum, or hi-hat sounds are used to add syncopation. One of the signature rhythm riffs, especially in early Chicago house, is built on the clave pattern. Congas and bongos may be added for an African sound, or metallic percussion for a Latin feel
One book from 2009 states the name "house music" originated from a Chicago club called the Warehouse that was open from 1977 to 1982. Clubbers to the Warehouse were primarily African, gay men, who came to dance to music played by the club's resident DJ, Frankie Knuckles, who fans refer to as the "godfather of house". Frankie began the trend of splicing together different records when he found that the records he had were not long enough to satisfy his audience of dancers. After the Warehouse closed in 1983, eventually the crowds went to Knuckles' new club, The Power House, later to be called The Power Plant, and the club was renamed, yet again, into Music Box with Ron Hardy as the resident DJ. The 1986 documentary, "House Music in Chicago", by filmmaker, Phil Ranstrom, captured opening night at The Power House, and stands as the only film or video to capture a young Frankie Knuckles in this early era, right after his departure from The Warehouse.
In the Channel 4 documentary Pump Up the Volume, Knuckles remarks that the first time he heard the term "house music" was upon seeing "we play house music" on a sign in the window of a bar on Chicago's South Side. One of the people in the car joked, "you know that's the kind of music you play down at the Warehouse!" In self-published statements, South-Side Chicago DJ Leonard "Remix" Rroy claimed he put such a sign in a tavern window because it was where he played music that one might find in one's home; in his case, it referred to his mother's soul and disco records, which he worked into his sets

You know, that’s actually really cool!!
Playlists make everything better honestly.
