#BLACKLIST THAT TAG IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE SPAM ON YOUR DASH

Fellow redditors who are new to Tumblr are welcome here, and while there aren't any moderated rules like in subreddits, there is a sort of social decorum that's pretty easy to pick up on.
Some tips if you're new though: - First of all: If you're new, for all the that is sensible in the world, change your icon, make a bio (doesn't have to be grand, but a little blurb is good), and/or make a post stating that you are not a bot, even if your blog is otherwise empty. This site is often plagued by spam bots, and blank blogs with default icons are often blocked out of self preservation by users.
- Second of all: Go add "X-kit Rewritten" (or "New X-kit") to your browser extensions.
- THIRDLY: You can follow tags and specific users to curate the content you want to see on your dash. Blocking doesn't stop you from seeing someone's content but you can add terms, tags, and names to your Blacklist (found in blog specific settings) and shield yourself a bit that way. If you have one of the extensions mentioned above, you can also block specific posts.
- Commit to the bit; If there's a joke, a bit, a playing going on, contribute (if you want to)! Makes it more fun.
- Nothing dies here. There are still posts from 2008 circling around and still making laughs. Don't worry about when a post was made, if you like it, reblog it!
- Reblog things!! No seriously, if you like something, the upvote system here is to reblog it so other people can see it. Likes are more like your private stash of posts you've liked or seen already (you can make likes and follows private in settings). Reblogs do not need a caption, if you've got nothing to say, don't. Lurk all you want, make your blog reblogs only, it's okay!
- Want to say something but don't want too much attention? Reblog and type in the tags area instead of the caption area. Doing this is more talking to yourself and maybe a few followers in spirit. If people like what you had to say, they'll add your tags to a post, just be aware. If you don't want that, a basic courtesy for yourself is to tag your post #do not reblog OR #Do not screenshot caption
- Tumblr tags can have spaces in them! They're separated by commas.
- You can make sideblogs! Got multiple interests but don't want them all in one big blog soup? Create a side blog to curate what you post and reblog. Make sure to use tags if you want that extra bit of organization.
This isn't everything, we'd be here all day if I listed it all, but it's a good few tips. This is a safe place for new peeps trying to get their feet wet. Please enjoy yourselves, be safe, and have fun.

I actually love when I see you reblogging some of your stuff, because I'm like fuck yeah even my favourite blogger likes my favourite blogger
I'm a big fan of shameless self promotion. Get your content in front of people -- if it isn't getting reblogged, it isn't being seen!
I think a lot of people are nervous about annoying their followers by self-promoting or reblogging old posts, but there's a good balance to be struck, I promise!
People see a LOT of content every day, and you reblogging a post from 1-2 months ago isn't going to register. What folks don't like is someone spam reblogging the same post on their dash 16 times in a row. That's annoying.
If you need permission from someone else, take it from me: reblog your fic link, your art, your shitpost, etc. Reblog yourself shamelessly (within reason, you're not spamming) and be proud of what you've created!
If people don't want to follow you, that's one thing. If they want to blacklist certain fic or art tags, that's well within their power. Trust people to moderate their own content intake, and don't live life worried you're going to offend a certain follower by reblogging your fic link a second time. It's not worth it, I promise.

Roleplaying Etiquette
Don't control other people's characters without permission. If your partner reveals things that only you, as the writer should know, don't make your character magically know them unless your partner said it was alright. .
Your character might have powers that interfere with others directly, or you might interact with characters who are supernatural or powerful. You should discuss things with your partner before you harm, kill or alter their muse - however keep in mind that if you don't want powerful muses to affect yours, then you should reconsider interacting with them. It's also not okay to demand someone else change their muse for your sake if you know beforehand that they're powerful or evil. .
Please read everyone's rules before you interact. Some people don't like roleplaying with non mutuals (terminology below), others are selective, etc. It's common courtesy to check first. .
Tag your triggers or state on your blogs that you don't tag them so others can decide whether or not to follow. However, it's polite to tag flashing images, irl blood/gore, nsfw posts, insects and body horror. . DON'T censor the word! It does not help and only fucks up people's blacklists. Writing tr*gger or tri//gg//er or other variants will show your posts to everyone anyway, so please write the entire word NORMALLY for the blacklist. .
Consider sending an ask before you reblog an ask meme from someone. Some people prefer you reblog memes from the source (the blog who posted it) instead of from them. .
Mun =/= Muse. Don't get angry at people for what their characters write. If you feel uncomfortable with how a character is treating yours, you can change your interaction or bring it up, but don't take it as a sign that your partner secretly hates you and is trying to hurt you through their writing. .
If you can, cut your posts to reduce dashboard spam. This only works on desktop, you can use XKit or XKit Rewritten .
Don't start drama. Don't vague people, send hateful or impolite anons, don't pass around call outs or feel like you have to make a statement or pick sides if you see arguing on your dash. Roleplaying is not activism. If someone is trying to get you to turn on a partner or side with them, it's better to just step away. .
Don't pester people for replies. You can send a follow up message asking if someone's still interested in continuing a reply, but if you harass someone to answer you by repeatedly spamming them with questions or making them feel guilty for not replying immediately, they will likely not want to write with you anymore. RPing is a hobby, not a job, and your partners probably have lives outside of writing.
Terminology:
OOC - out of character
IC - in character
Mun - the writer
Muse - the characters
Starters - a drabble or a sentence that invites interaction
Ask memes / inbox memes - prompts you can send people via asks
Magic Anons (also spelled m!a or magic!anons) - Anonymous asks that put a "curse" on your character (i.e: muse turns into a cat for 3 days) You can ignore it if you don't want to do it
Mutuals - people you follow who follow you back
Selective - Mun will only write with people they select
Semi Selective - same as above but more lax
Private - Mun writes with only very specific people
Reblog karma - you are expected to send an ask if you reblog an ask meme
Passwords - some people ask you to send a specific word or phrase into their inbox to prove you read their rules
OP (ie this muse is too OP) - over powered
Fade to black - suggestive roleplay that doesn't involve any sex scenes and instead skips to the next scene
Exclusive shipping - you only ship this character with another character and don't allow any other ships for that muse
Dropping threads - ending a thread without continuing it
Soft block - when you block someone and then unblock them, which unfollows them from your blog
Mun =/= Muse - The Mun is not their characters and does not advocate for everything their muses do

Search, Tags, and Tumblr
Tumblr's search functions are notoriously weird, but there's a few common things to know about how it works in conjunction with Tagging. First things first:
-Tags are for searching but also personal blog organization as desired. This is why some folks have weird/funny personal use tags. Tags can use dashes and spaces, but not regular double quote marks ("), though single marks are fine (').
-Tag for what's in the post; adding other, unrelated tags "for visibility" is against Tumblr's TOS and gets you reported for Spam!
Example: if you make a post for your new Clive Rosfield screenshots, make sure you're only tagging terms relevant to Final Fantasy XVI and Clive Rosfield (and any personal organizing tags like "screenshots"); don't add tags like "Star Wars" and "SpongeBob", as Clive has nothing to do with those!
-Tag without censoring words! We use filters/blacklists here to avoid things we don't want to see. Can also work for words in the body of a post. There's no rules here against using "kill" or "death" or other terms defining common human experiences determined "too negative/dangerous" on other sites (stay civil to each other).
-If you do alt-spell things, it's only in the body of a post and usually when it's dislike of a fandom thing as a courtesy to those enjoyers. If I make a shipping post and say, for example, "I can't stand R3y|o", that's when I want to use weird spelling and symbols--and no common tags for that fandom! If you do use tags for organizing, keep it to things like "#anti (thing) or "#(thing) critical", again spelled correctly for others' blacklisting purposes and to keep it out of the Reylo Search and Tags so those fans can enjoy their ship without seeing negativity. Because...
-General Search pulls from Tags and Also terms found in the body of a post. If I just put "Thancred" in the Search bar at the top of the page, it'll show me any and all posts with "Thancred" in them, including 1) if the name is in the body of the post, 2) if the name is in a tag that's a sentence/includes other words, and 3) even if not tagged for Thancred.
This caused some wank a couple years back for certain fans when someone tagged a lascivious picture set with what they knew was a triggery NOTP for many...but they also put the characters' names in the post body, not realizing simply searching for either of those characters would pull it up (They also, IMO, should have put the images under a Read More to be doubly safe, for themselves and for others they knew might be upset stumbling onto said images, but the crux was not realizing how Tumblr Search worked).
-Tag Search specifically pulls from the tags; per Tumblr's info pages, the first 20 tags (out of 30 total allowed) now will show up in search. Common, consistent tags first are good for visibility. You can also Follow tags you want to keep track of; there's even a tab on your Dash for it.
-Reblogs do not show up in the searches, even with additions and new notes. However, a blacklist filter will catch tags put on the original post, even if the reblogger doesn't add it when it ends up on your Dash.
-You can also blacklist blog names/URLs. Think of it like Twitter's muting rather than a full block (though one can do that too, and should as needed).
Example: someone following Seanan McGuire doesn't like frogs, but she reblogs a lot of frogs. The follower blocked and blacklisted the blogs she often reblogs frogs from to minimize the number of frogs they see while still following a favorite author for her book info.
-If people ask you to tag a thing cuz it's a squick or full-on trigger, you can just do it, or you can politely say no; that's valid. It's up to that person then to decide if they want to blacklist or unfollow or block or what. Just be civil either and both ways.
In summary: if you're talking about bunnies cuz you took pictures at the local farm show, just write "bunnies" normally in the body and/or tags of the post, so anyone with "bunnies" blacklisted can avoid it--and folks who want to see cute pics of bunnies can find it!
Even if you use proper tags, or no tags, or only use alternate spellings in the post body to keep things out of the tags/searches, consider still using a Read More as a last line of courtesy to any followers or random folks you don't want to catch in the crossfire. Also consider hiding your blog from Search results, and/or Private posts.
Tumblr's Help Center (On Desktop browser, go to the "About" link, and then the "Resources" menu; on Mobile App, go to Account settings, General settings, scroll down to "Help" under "Account") has further info about Searches and Tagging (and everything else!), and as that info changes, it's a good idea to keep track of those page updates, as well as the @changes blog to keep track of new updates, bugs, recent fixes, and upcoming info.

I don't know what that anon was on about but I for one would like you to continue to "spam" my feed. I want to see every happy birthday message, every question asked, evey baked good you thought looked good enough to share because I follow your blog for YOU as much as I do for your stunning work.
Don't let them dull your sparkle ✨️
Thank you so much, my friend 💛
Honestly I can’t get my head around that anon at all, but lesson learned, I guess! Next year I’ll make sure I use a specific tag or something so folks can blacklist it if they don’t want me “spamming the dash” with birthday messages 😅
I’m so glad I’ve not annoyed you, at least! Honestly I hate this rhetoric of “no one cares about what you had for dinner yadda yadda” because I do! I do care! I want to see all the happy, mundane stuff that folks are excited about! Like, surely that’s the point of all this? To share our joy and excitement, and good wishes on someone’s dang birthday, lol
Anyway! I’m going to step up on my soapbox soon if I’m not careful, so I better leave it there 😂 Thank you for this, you are a wonderful human, and I appreciate you very much! As well as all the folks who sent me well wishes yesterday!! 💛✨

MASTERPOST
season 1 (WINNER: Bloom into You) ||| season 2 (WINNER: The guy she was interested in wasn't a guy at all) ||| season 3 (WINNER: Destroy It All and Love Me In Hell) ||| season 4 (ONGOING)
curiosity round (schedule | tag)
Tumblr media
NOT a safe space for TERFs‼️Transmisogynists stop following me challenge & trans women I love you forever ❤️
NAVIGATION:
matches: poll posts without additional comments or reblogs
yuri propaganda: any posts regarding contestants (series tags are HERE -> [S1-3; S4-?] if you want to browse)
results: winner announcements for any completed match
knockouts: for shoutouts to the losing contestants & certain rejected submissions (knockout masterpost can be found here)
yuriposting: for any general reblogs about yuri as a concept
other polls: what it says on the tin!
blacklist "stfu elly" if you don't want my asks / non-tournament talk on your dash. if you don't want to see reblogs of poll posts, blacklist "match boost" xoxo
If I miss any CWs or you want to dispute the ones I've listed, please let me know; I try to be thorough, but my memory is a sieve and I'm not always exact.
Submissions are still open while the poll is running! Rather than any submission being unsuccessful, it just gets added to the spreadsheet for next time :)
Guidelines, submission form & additional info under the cut.
SUBMISSION YAYS:
Not limited to just manga; as long as we're talking GL (or, at the very least, comics about lesbians), manhua, webcomics & other non-japanese comics are fine!
Oneshots, anthologies & ongoing works are all equally A-OK.
While I ask that you don't submit straight up hentai, any amount of sexual content in a work is alright (just give a heads up 👍).
Titles that explore or touch on dark subject matter are fine (encouraged. even.), again just give a heads up.
SUBMISSIONS NAYS:
Stuff that's super short, I find, doesn't make for very fun competition, so while you're free to submit them and they'll still get a shout out, they won't be included in future polls. Not a strict rule, but let's say ten pages minimum.
Submit as many titles as you like, but number of submissions has little to no impact on acceptance, so no need to spam the same one.
Anything romanticising or sexualising incest/rape/grooming/etc will not be accepted; its a blurry line between that and having dark themes, of course, so acceptance and rejection are up to my discretion.
SUBMISSION FORM IS HERE: LINK
PROPAGANDA:
I take screencaps & go through series tags for the bulk of propaganda, but submitted propaganda is also readily accepted. All that stuff gets queued, but I share submissions right away.
Tag me in a post, send things via DM, or jump in the ask or submission box - any is fine! If it's been a minute and I haven't shared it, I probably haven't seen it; in that case just let me know directly.
CONTENT WARNINGS:
Polls give a general heads up of any notable warnings for the series in the post, but once they're out of the tournament, they get a more detailed recommendation post that's more specific and comprehensive.
That being said, some of these I didn't read a lot of, haven't read in awhile, or are still ongoing, so be please be cautious!
SEEDING:
Seeding is based on MAL ranking or, if there's no MAL ranking available, it's assigned a random number between 1500 & 10,000 and placed into the challonge bracket based on that.
OFFICIAL TIE PROTOCOL:
TIE IN THE MAIN BRACKET -> Treated as a double loss, aka both go to the Losers' Bracket in a three way match. Of the two that tied, the highest scorer goes back to the main bracket. The lowest scorer of all three gets knocked out.
TIE IN THE LOSERS BRACKET -> Treated as a double win, aka both go to the next round of the Losers' Bracket in a three way match. The highest scorer moves forward, and the other two get knocked out.
WHAT ABOUT A TIE IN THE THREE-WAY MATCHES? -> I have chosen not to think about that <3
WHAT IF, LIKE, THERES A TIE IN THE LOSERS BRACKET AND MAIN BRACKET IN A WAY THAT WOULD RESULT IN A 4 WAY MATCH? -> I delete my blog.

What else...
Don't remember, my brain is not braining, good night!

It's Jason Momoa's birthday today so I have a Ronon post spam coming in the next hour. It's been a while since I've done a post spam. Apologies to any new followers who haven't experienced them before. The posts are gonna dominate your dash for a wee while. But, if you don't want to see it then you can blacklist by using the Stargate Spam tag. Who doesn't want to see pretty pictures of Jason Momoa though?
Tumblr media
Thanks to @colonelshepparrrrd who reminds me of the birthdays.

Just saw the stupidest post I could have seen, saying "if you're a regular normal tumblr user and you go around flagging people's post as mature content, you're a cop/conservative/support censorship/etc!!!"
lol. lmao, even.
If you tag your posts correctly so they can be filtered correctly by blacklist filters, you wouldn't have to worry about your post getting flagged with a Community Label.
Does your photo post contain contain untagged nudity, body horror, or gore? You bet your fucking ass I am flagging your post.
If you are posting nudity and you refuse to use the NSFW tag? I am flagging your fucking post.
That tag exists so that the content can be filtered by blacklist extensions, whether because people like me are repulsed by sexual content, or because people might be scrolling Tumblr in the breakroom as their boss or coworker walks behind them and glances down to see straight up porn on their coworker's phone -- you need to tag your goddamn fucking nudity and sexual art as NSFW .
If the OP tags it, every reblog will get filtered for the people who have the tag blacklisted.
If you straight up refuse to use that tag and I have to see your untagged (and thus unfiltered) shit on my dash, I am not only flagging the post but also checking your blog, and if you've got multiple posts all completely untagged so they can't be filtered, you bet your ass i'm reporting your blog so it gets marked as containing NSFW.
Because guess what. if you properly tagged your shit in the first place, people who don't want to see it won't have to see it, and won't report it for being untagged NSFW.
Same thing goes for goddamn fucking gore and body horror . Do I even need to explain this? Apparently so! If you are posting extremely graphic photos of animals with horrifying conditions and extreme injuries without tagging the appropriate gore , blood, injury, body horror, etc tags, your post is going to be fucking flagged as gore and you don't get to throw a fucking hissy fit .
Tag your shit with the proper, uncensored, standard tags for your content, and you will not have to worry about it gaining a Community Label.
Also, Community Label does not always equal nudity/sex, Community Labels also include violence , along with drug and alcohol addiction.
Tumblr media
[ID: a screenshot of the tumblr account filter system, showing the 4 community guidelines and the options for filtering them in your account. The top of the list is a general warning for 'mature' content, followed by Drugs & Alcohol Addiction, Violence, and lastly Sexual Themes, all of which have three options beside them: show, blur, or hide, with this example screenshot set so it 'hides' all of the labels. end ID]
Seriously. Tag your posts correctly, and you won't have to worry about people applying their own community flag to it. Do you know how many fucking porn bots there are, right now, in 2023, posting untagged full frontal nudity and spamming users inboxes with messages? Community labels and reporting is how they are able to be hidden until their bot accounts get nuked.
Anyways, this clearly and obviously not about the transphobic trolls who go around flagging tran's users selfies as "mature content" , this is about the very, very real issue of people on tumblr straight up refusing to tag things that are NSFW with the NSFW tag, or refusing to use the gore or blood or body horror or injury tags when posting graphic images of horrible injuries on animals (or people for shock value on donation scam posts).
If you're posting any kind of NSFW art, you need to tag it as NSFW. No extra words in front or behind. Just 'NSFW' needs to be the first tag in your list. you can add whatever else you want after that, but the 'nsfw' tag needs to be just those four letters for it to filter properly!
TL;DR: Tag your shit correctly so my blacklist can filter it, or you're getting a fucking community label and you don't get to fucking complain about it.

I was always kinda under the impression that tagging things was better so people can block the tags for topics they don't like, but now that I see how flooded my favorite one piece tags are I never wanna do that again. Sorry for contributing to the spam!
it still is, in my opinion! thats a huge part of the reason why i try to tag everything i post, aside from like... general indexing purposes. tagging content helps keep the dash clean for people with rigorous blacklist/filtering setups (like me). it makes complete sense to tag things that are character/ship/etc. content (<- i hate that word but you know what i mean; art, writing, jokes, meta, etc.) or community posts (questions, calls for fics/art, commission announcements, etc.), both reblogs that dont show up in the tags and especially original posts that do--because the latter is, like, what the tags are for.
what irks me are like... tangentially-related original posts that people tag for exposure. personal posts that dont have anything specifically to do with the character/ship, but get tagged anyway even if theres something implied or if op likes it. or people just straight up including things that are... unrelated? its hard to articulate without being specific but im trying to avoid that, but... like, people who follow your blog know what youre into, so thats the audience youre posting for... u dont have to blast small-scale/personal text posts (in my opinion) because the people who you want to see it will already see it by virtue of following you. thats your house. i dont open my windows and yell about where im parking to my whole neighborhood... we share the street... theyre right there... u know.

welcome!
i'm reverie, but i also go by rev and revy! i'm 22 and my pronouns are they/them. i'm a dorky gnc bisexual with too much time on my hands. this is my main blog, where i basically shitpost as well as fandom post. be warned i do have a lot of fandoms, but i do my best to tag fandom posts and animal posts with their respective names in case you're into blacklisting certain ones. i mainly run this blog on a queue or else i'd end up spamming dashes, but i do actively post now and again.
my more active fandoms and interests have sideblogs, which you can find in my #revsideblogs tag! i also plan to create a list of my more prominent ones eventually and will link it back here once i do.
some of my basic interests are, animation of any sort, music, gaming and of course hyperfocusing on my chosen interest at that moment in time. (from personality typing, to a tv show, to drawing, to skincare who knows what i'll be obsessed with next.)
i sometimes gravitate towards media that has some content that's less than stellar. i consume them critically and do not support anything shitty they endorse in the media. i try my best to read dnis just in case there's certain fandoms, but if i post a fandom you're uncomfy with don't be afraid to block me, i want your time on tumblr to be safe and what you wanna see! <3 *i say this like i consume lots of iffy media but honestly it's only a small few and i rarely post them.*
i mean, i don't rlly need a dni cuz normally people don't find my blog. for example, if you're here wondering if you should follow me back, i read your dni and agree with it at least to a certain degree. honestly i'll just remove you if i don't vibe with what you post or stand for. this is a safe space for all the theys, gays and babes here. not a place for 'phobes, pedos and assholes, etc.

psa for ppl in the toh fandom: you might want to block @princess-strawberry-sunshine
they spam the character tags with a bunch of adult/child and sibling/sibling "ships" with no way of blacklisting it. so if you're bothered by that stuff, the only way to avoid it is to block this user directly
they keep on remaking their blog so it's only a matter of time til you gotta block them again tho :/
also, TWICE they've ignored my requests to at least tag their stuff so people can blacklist it so they don't expose more unwilling people to it, so i'm 90% sure they're doing this maliciously
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
update: AYYY THE BLOG IS DELETED (only a matter of time before they remake and we gotta start this whole process all over again tho :/)
update 2: they are now @princess-squidward. block them there now. will keep you all updated if they remake AGAIN.
update 3: they deleted again. will keep you all updated when i find out their new url so you can block em before having to be exposed to their shit
update 4: it's @princess-wordgirl now.
update 5: before blocking her this time, i wasted my time contacting her, politely explaining why tagging ships wasn't good enough, in the hopes that maybe she truly WAS just naive. she ignored it and blocked me. so that is solid confirmation that any harm she does is ABSOLUTELY on purpose. so don't even bother wasting your breath on her.
update 6: she deleted again. will update when i know her new url
update 7: it's now @princesspinkcupcake (no dashes in between! princess-pink-cupcake is a completely unrelated person.) remember: don't waste your time otherwise engaging with her, just block her and go.
update 8: her url is now @the-starstruckprincess
update 9: it's now @princessred-star
update 10: deleted again
update 11: @the-princesswarrior-world now
update 12, since someone was being huffy in my inbox: i reiterate, DO NOT harass her. even if you *do* think it's morally justified (which. ehhh. not gonna get into that.), it's not gonna do jackshit. clearly, no amount of talking to her (whether peacefully or harassingly) has changed her behaviour, so continuing to do so is pointless. you'll just waste your time and make yourself more upset.
hell, if my hunch is right, there's a small chance she might even ENJOY getting angry anons (whether she likes it due to the same weird compulsion that makes her wanna forcibly expose people to this shit, or because she wants to play the victim). either way, follow the old internet adage and Do Not Feed The Trolls. just block her and leave.
update 13: url is @princess-pinksuperstar now
update 14: she's started remaking after months of peace and quiet. url is @the-donut-alien now. remember, block and do not engage.
update 15: is now @princesstoxicbutterfly also she is no longer even tagging "ship names" so there's EVEN MORE no way to avoid seeing her shit other than to preemptively block her. wahoo.
update 16: @the-princess-phoenix now
update 17: @princesspinkunicorn now
update 18: @princess-yurio-donut
update 19: got a message saying it was @wallykittykat and she had been causing a stink in the toh tags after getting called out, but she either deleted or changed urls before i could verify
update 20: she's @princess-bluebird now
update 21: @princessyuriobubblegum now
Tumblr media
god.
update 22: after months of blissful radio silence, she's come back. she's @princessyuriomoon now
update 23: @princess-purpleangel now
update 24: @therebeldinosaur now
update 25: @princessyurio now

Found my mind drifting back to Recent Fandom Events in the shower, and I thought I'd share something I do as a means of curating my dash without outright blocking people. Because sometimes folks, like mutuals-in-laws, are perfectly fine people but their jam is just really not my jam but blocking a tag would mean missing other stuff I do like. Or maybe blocking a mutual-in-law would cause more conflict than solve it. Whatever. There are a dozen applicable scenarios, I'm sure.
Obviously, if you're having an issue with hostility, harassment, spam, unwanted followers, etc., blocking is gonna be the best choice. But if you just don't want to see someone's stuff and blacklisting certain tags would mean you miss the stuff you do want to see, you can just add their username to your blacklist of choice (either Tumblr's official blacklist feature or through an extension like XKit). I actually find this is better than blocking when it comes to keeping stuff off my dash since blocking doesn't seem to hide reblogs from other people.
There are a few caveats to this method:
If they change their name, you'll obviously have to update your blacklist accordingly.
This might not be practical for some usernames, like ones that are a single word or common phrase, use a character or show name, etc.
Tumblr's blacklist feature in particular occasionally has false positives or picks up irrelevant content in tags or reblogs that will hide a post.
But I've been taking this approach for a few years now, and I find it's generally a much better method of curation than blocking. If it doesn't work for you, that's cool--I'm not suggesting this as a blanket solution to all dash curation, and it can be used in conjunction with blocking for particularly egregious situations--But figured I'd share if it does help. 😘

*Private* Hi there, I hope you're doing well and having a good day. I was wondering if you could help me by boosting my donation post for me? I'm so sorry if I'm bothering you and I completely understand if you can't or don't want to help. No worries, thank you. Take care and happy holidays 💖❤️
Sorry, I won't be boosting your post, and I'm going to be posting this publically so that both you and other people can see my reasoning behind it, come to their own conclusions, and hopefully learn something from all this.
Firstly, there is currently a massive wave of scam artists and spam bots on tumblr invading people's inboxes with messages exactly like this. I've already had three in the past few weeks that were clear and obvious scams, so they just got deleted and the user blocked. If you are a genuine person in need, this is the absolute worst method of gaining attention.
And there is the strong possibility of you being genuine! Your blog has lots of posts on it scattered neatly on a near-daily basis, dating all the way back to May last year, and with a more-or-less consistent (as far as tumblr goes) themeing to them. You've made a number of original posts, mostly text, and they're a good mix of fandom, personal complaining about tumblr, and requests for money. Your highly inconsistent tagging, however, did send up a red flag, as it seems to be mostly no tags on 90% of posts, and then occasionally copying the tags of the person you reblogged from. Which could indicate a bot copy-pasting things, or it could just be xkit's 'keep original tags on reblogs' function. Many of your reblogs also all seem to have a timestamp of under 15 minutes from the person you reblogged it from, which again is a red flag as it could indicate a bot using tumblr's Post Date function to backdate reblogs, or it could just mean that you don't tend to scroll too far down your dash. There's also the fact that you do actually have a number of posts on your blog from 2015 before a 5-year-gap, which isn't a red flag? But it isn't not a red flag either.
Apologies if all these observations sound pretty clinical, but this is the sort of thing that people should be looking for when trying to spot fake blogs fishing for donations.
Secondly, and making this statement clearly on my blog is a major reason I'm posting this ask publicly, I do not reblog personal donation posts. Basically ever. I do not reblog them whether they're for medical needs, housing, pets, bills, or anything, and I certainly don't reblog them for strangers.
I will occasionally signal boost commission posts for friends or mutuals, or I'll reblog funding posts for cool projects, and very occasionally I'll help spread 'a major disaster has happened/is happening and here's how you can help the people involved' post that may happen to include donation links, but I do not reblog personal donation posts.
I am saying this as someone who knows what it's like to be flat-fucking-broke for years at a time. As someone who had their entire meagre savings completely wiped last year by the UK government. As someone who has anxiety attacks when I see the total at the end of my grocery bill every month. It is because of these things that I avoid those posts to the best of my (and blacklist's) ability.
Genuine or no, I'm sorry that you're in a shitty enough situation that you feel begging for funds on tumblr from strangers is your only real option. If you haven't already, I recommend checking out Copperbadge's fundraising primer, and filling out the Radio Free Monday form linked in the sidebar. You're much more likely to find help there than by sending out random and worrying asks.

About Me
Aliases: Specter/Spectre
Age: 17
Pronouns: They/them (or she/her if a close friend)
Note: Do not call me queer. I don't think it's a slur and I don't like people who think of it as such, but I don't want to be called weird or anything that is synonymous to it for my identity. Just call me LGBTQ+.
You can tag my gifs and memes and stuff as "me" or "kin" or whatever, but please don't tag any of my drawings or writing as such. I'm not against kin/soulbonding, but I'm not comfortable with people basically putting their entire identity into content that I'm already insecure about.
I'm generally a very angry, aggressive, and bitchy person so if that bothers you.. don't follow.
My trigger tag format is #___ tw. I tag negativity with #specternegativity.
More below the cut.
I don't really have a DNI anymore since it was long as hell and changed every day, so I just block if you're a scumbag. Proshippers, TERFs, prolifers, truscum, people who defend AO3 allowing child porn + racism on their site, and kink blogs are blocked on sight. No exceptions. No, I don't care how much or how little you post about it. I don't care how old you are either (i'm looking at the underage proshippers, being a minor doesn't excuse you from saying it's okay to sexualize minors). If I'm aware you are one, you're getting blocked. Please ask to follow if you are a Catholic, that religion is one of the biggest causes of my PTSD.
Don't interact with me if you post untagged NSFW. I'm a minor, creep.
Neo-Nazis, other fascists, and almost all communists (y'all caused the deaths of millions no matter what you say) will also be blocked. Fuck y'all.
Don't follow if your DNI just says "basic DNI criteria." That doesn't tell me shit.
Ask to follow if you're 30+. You're way over my age and that makes me uncomfortable.
Under 13s can follow but please don't try to message without permissions.
Do not ask me for a selfie or you will be blocked.
I rarely follow back. It's nothing personal, I just like to keep my dash clean-ish.
I don't care if you like/reblog spam me. I have my notifications off, go wild.
If you have a problem with swearing or all caps, please don't follow. I swear and talk in all caps a lot, and it's tedious to tag a post every time I say "shit" in it. I'm up for tagging other triggers, but I'm not tagging swearing or all caps.
Tag alcohol/drugs, incest, and pedophilia or else you'll be blocked. I have a catch all tag (#specter go away) if you wanna use that instead, but I doubt you do, so just tag your shit lol
I sometimes yell about how annoying adults (mostly like.. 25-40 year olds) are on this blog because I have awful experiences with them. Blacklist #oldie beef if you don't want to see that, and if that doesn't suffice, go away lol
Old URLs: chilling-in-the-distortion-world
I'm in the PST/PDT timezone.
Sexuality: Bisexual
Race: Mixed (black, indigenous, white)
Country: Canada (no I don't live in Ontario LOL)
Political opinion: Left-wing, heavily against communism and fascism alike.
Languages: English, French (at a high education school level)
Not So Fun Facts
DO NOT CALL ME PET NAMES. IT IS A HUGE TRIGGER FOR ME AND IF YOU DO IT ON PURPOSE OR 3+ TIMES I WILL BLOCK YOU.
I have 2 dogs
I hyperfixate on Pokemon a lot. Particularly Palkia. If you have a problem with that because you're a crazy Dialga/Giratina simp that can't stand people preferring the "penis dragon," go away lol
I play the trombone
I'm a youngest sibling
I hate eggs
I fucking hate most adults.. like they genuinely make my blood boil.. y'all can start lecturing minors about respectful behavior when you stop making fun of teens for their interests, intruding on minor-oriented spaces, sexualizing minors, etc.
I've been a Pokemon fan since I was around 3- my first game was Pokemon Sapphire.
My personal favorite generations are 4 and 7, but I think Gen 5 is objectively better than Gen 7. Gen 4 and 5 are at about the same level of quality imo
palkia's existence gives me serotonin
Making Dialga stans mad also gives me serotonin
Giratina is the only one of the creation trio that I have mildly mild feelings about
I don't actually hate Dialga I just pretend I do but Dialga is one of my favorite legendaries
Fandoms
Pokemon (my blog is 80% Pokemon)
Destiny
Minecraft
RWBY
Wings of Fire
Warrior Cats
Vocaloid

Hello, im really interested in the podcast but can you add a specific tag to your questions that I can use to block? I want to follow this blog for updates but i don't want to read 20+ questions on my dash right after going online (when I haven't heard the new episodes yet, I want to avoid all kinds of spoilers). That would be great, thanks.
That makes complete sense and we are sorry for not having the foresight to think of that beforehand. From now on, every question will be answered with:
RR answers
in the tags. So everyone can blacklist accordingly if you would not like to see our spam of questions. We may make an answering schedule - to only reply to inbox during certain blocks of time, in order to manage the insane wave of questions.
We are happy you’re interested, and we hope you stay with us!
Keep Searching. -Dan
