The theme song of the movie will be Forever Unchanging☆Love is Life☆ (Eikyuu Fuhen☆Love is Life☆) by Binan Koukou All Stars. Binan Koukou All Stars consists of all 22 voice actors (24 charas.) from the main casts of Boueibu Love and Happy Kiss. The song will be released on January 22nd 2025.

I decided to make this my new and permanent pinned post. So, here we go.

I didn't go to the dark side for the cookies. Though they are delicious.

I am over 21. There may be adult content at times and I will strive to mark it all. I am a pro-shipper, because I don't care what other people ship. If I don't like it, I either block the tag/mute the author or just move on peacefully. I have my own life to live.

I write fanfic for Power Rangers, Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers, Digimon Frontier, Digimon Xros Wars, Digimon Xros Wars Hunters, Digimon Appmon, Digimon NEXT, YGO DM, YGO GX, YGO Zexal, YGO Arc-V, YGO VRAINS, Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boubeiu Love, and crossovers thereof. I intend to write Kingdom Hearts and/or other fandoms in the future but I haven't done much serious for those as of yet.

I am currently working on rewriting the vast bulk of my fanfics, due to having written so many of them starting in 2014 for challenges, which I thoroughl enjoyed but now think I could have done better on. Not all rewrites will be recognizable from the originals. It all depends on what I decide to do. This is my Great Rewriting Project.

Recently, I realized something... the only time I did cosplay in PSO2 before was when there was the NieR:Automata collab, I tried to make an accurate 9S. After that, I didn’t do anything, even when there were the collabs with Re:Zero, Dead or Alive 5, Persona. Cosplay/Phashion was definitely not one of my priorities when playing this game, for 8 years, even when I moved to Global.

So... this just goes to show that NGS is boring. To me, at least. I mean... sure, there is still PSO2, but it’s not the same (as before, and still different from JP) (it looks pretty bad with the new engine), and the customization system is pretty good for a game that does not focus on life simulation, even though the outfits don’t separate top, bottom and shoes. But the gameplay itself? Yes, it’s dynamic, which is pretty nice for a Phantasy Star game. But there is better elsewhere... Content-wise, you either get to everything quickly, or you don’t get them ever if you’re unlucky or not active enough. The updates are unfortunately too slow.

I used to play with a few people. I don’t anymore, because they left, more or less.

Anyway, there better be other planets soon. And an update that'll finally make use of the stuff laying around in Halphia Lake >:T

So my immediate gut reaction was "Supernatural is absolutely yuri" but I don't have much to back that up, asides from Vibes and the fact that I and a small but non negligible number of other people were inspired by it to create f/f fanworks about the doomed but compelling female characters and/or female versions of the male characters.

I started pondering what does feel like Not Yuri to me. My first thought was the British Queer as Folk, because it's about the gay male community in a way where adding women feels contrary to the soul of the show, and also the narrative felt aggressively uninterested in the few female characters who do show up. YYMMV! (Your yuri mileage may vary)

Also, the subjective, ambiguous Vibes-ness is pretty inherent to the concept, but found myself curious to see what canons have the least proportion of femslash, as a measure of what feels least femslashy to the fannish population as a whole. (Although, does femslashiness = yuriness??)

Poking the stats from this analysis of the AO3(*), I made my own slightly edited spreadsheet. Assuming my spreadsheet algebra is right, the included fandom with the LEAST proportion of f/f is Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu LOVE!, a yaoi-bait(**) comedy with zero female characters and zero femslash out of 860 works. The next couple of fandoms are Riptide (TV) and Baseball RPF at 0.2%, followed by Strange Magic, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (TV), 30 Seconds to Mars, Hey! Say! JUMP, As the World Turns, Hornblower (TV), Starsky & Hutch and Touken Ranbu at 0.3%.

So, based on a quick google, that's: yaoi-bait anime, old show about two dudes solving mysteries, RPF, children's film aimed at girls??, old show about two dudes being spies, RPF, RPF, soap opera, old show about dudes on a boat, old show about two dudes solving mysteries, yaoi-bait anime-ish gacha game. Skimming down the rest of the list the next couple of genres look broadly similar.

Thus, by this (highly questionable) metric, the opposite of yuri is Actual Real Life Men(***).

By comparison, Supernatural and Queer as Folk (UK) are 3% femslash based on current simple category counts, though looking at the 6 Queer as Folk works tagged f/f none of them seem to actually be about female characters from Queer as Folk, it's all multi-fandom vids, brief mentions of the canon lesbians etc. While at least some of the Supernatural f/f works are about relationships between female characters from Supernatural. So my questionable gut instinct matches my highly questionable analysis. That's Science!

(*)Remembering that this is not a complete or necessarily representative sample of all fannish creation or interest, even back in 2017. I'm just having fun with numbers here!

(**)A distinct genre from actual BL. Yaoi-bait tends to leave room for the interpretation that the male characters are straight and just happen not to have shown interest in any specific women onscreen by having as few women around as possible. In BL, male characters can actually say they're into dudes, so female characters showing up doesn't automatically undermine the m/m shippiness.

(***)And, silliness aside, this makes a lot of sense to me. I'm not into RPF, but I can see people who are still feeling uncomfortable with the two usual ways of adding femslash to a male dominated canon: genderswap (erasing a real person's gender) or focussing on 'minor characters' (real women who are not in the media spotlight, since otherwise you'd be tagging for their RPF fandom) It hadn't occurred to me before, but "any time you focus on two canon 'female characters' you are automatically in a different fandom" is a pretty powerful reason for low f/f numbers! The impression I get from a brief poke of the AO3 is that the f/f within RPF for all-male groups is indeed a lot of genderswap and background ships involving associated female celebrities, sometimes also tagged with the female celebrities own associated fandom(s). Eg "Adam Lambert" is 0.5% f/f while "American Music RPF" is 5%. Even if people wrote RPF musician ships at random, any work with enough Adam Lambert in it to tag it as in the "Adam Lambert" canon would be very unlikely to be f/f (I looked up US musicians because I could more easily tell gender and celebrity level from name)

OK THAT'S ENOUGH RAMBLING. ANYWAY. THE OPPOSITE OF YURI IS MEN. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I mean, treating yaoi as the opposite of yuri just doesn't make sense mathematically: boys are not the inverse of girls. The actual opposite of yuri would somehow have to involve fewer than zero girls, and that's not an easy thing to characterise.

Energon’s Watchlist: Time for School (Me & the Boys)

Here’s three anime series about friend groups where friendships take precedence over romance! Also, you learn a little too much about my mental state. I’m sorry. The following series are not harem, are not based around and have minimal to no romance, and have been personally watched and enjoyed by me. See also: Haven’t You Heard? Cute High Earth Defence Club LOVE! (Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boueibu LOVE!, 37 episodes total)

The Earth Defence Club was just a joke… until it wasn’t. A magic girl anime at an all-boy school, one day a pink wombat falls into a bathhouse and leads five (slightly less than willing) boys to become Princes of Love to defend the earth from evil and maybe these three suspicious student council members. Yes, the frilly outfits are absolutely necessary.

A parody that lightheartedly pokes fun at the magic girl genre. Each episode follows a familiar pattern, with a different big bad every season. The characters spend a lot of time in a bathhouse, which isn’t really relevant to whether or not you should watch it, but I found it culturally interesting. The series exists in the vague realm of heavily-implied-but-not-explicitly-stated bl. There’s even an episode that riffs on the toothbrush-hot spring scene of the iconic bl Gakuen Heaven which nearly killed me. Like almost all bl anime before very (very) recently, it’s up to viewer interpretation. The last season (HAPPY KISS!) has all different characters, but is comfortably the same while being just different enough to keep your interest. Had some major gender envy towards Kyotaro, who’s basically my ideal self. I think my younger self would have especially loved it and it’s definitely a favourite of mine! Worth watching whether you’re a magic girl expert or novice!

You and Me (Kimi to Boku, 13 eps + You and Me 2: 13eps)

A slice of life comedy about four (soon five) friends who’ve known each other since childhood. The series is mostly episodic, and tells stories of their daily lives, as well as flashbacks of the past— although there are less flashback stories after the first part. The characters are dynamic while being realistic, are humorous and frankly a bit salty. You and Me is similar to Natsume Yujin-cho in its warm and gentle vibe— like being wrapped in a warm blanket. It has an edge of melancholy comfort. The boys also brush Shun’s long hair a few times— which is a tiny detail but I really liked it. Their friendship is clearly deep, even if they often pretend it isn’t.

Sanrio Boys (Sanrio Danshi, 13 eps)

This show is a metaphor for being gay. If you watch it, you’ll think: ‘well clearly they’re reading too much into it— this is obviously an advertisement for Sanrio merchandise with some plot thrown in’ but then you’ll be like: ‘oh. This is actually pretty heavy handed’. The series is about a group of high school boys becoming friends over their shared love of Sanrio. But first they have to overcome themselves— usually some sort of personal barrier or trauma or whatever.

Anyways, this series gave me a gender-related emotional breakdown because I’m fundamentally not happy with my life as it is now. This was one of the first shows I started watching this year, but I haven’t finished it because they’re planning for a play and it was too stressful for me to watch, despite knowing that it turns out fine as it’s literally the first scene in the series. I can’t even remember if this anime was particularly good, I just want someone to watch it and tell me I’m right— that I’m not out of my mind here! If you have have an emotional, life-changing epiphany that’s not my problem and you’re welcome.

This is my first time appearing in Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boueibu! What, boys transform using magical-girl-like transformations and protect the earth? Then I was invited for a monkey-like role? When I was waiting for what kind of story this was, it seemed this wasn't just "monkey-like", it really was a monkey-----LOL [1].

Aye-aye, whose eye~s are rou~~~nd. He's [2] not only cute, but he also has a certain amount of mystery. I was always with Wombat (Mugihito), so I was happy. Also, during the dubbing, I had fun portraying the character by going "Try doing it like this", "Try doing it like that".

Then, this time is ETERNAL LOVE! Look forward to eternal love from everyone! [3]

Anime of the day: Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love!

Magic girls can go shove off, because we have magical boys! And it’s not like the boys turn into girls, no they wear their adorable magic with pride! A magical pink wombat gives a group of five boys magic powers and now they must defend the world from lovelessness. They fight against a green hedgehog and his cronies. And they fight some super strange enemies. If you’re looking for something serious you should do it elsewhere because this anime is nothing but a fun blast of 12 episodes. BUT WAIT there's more. The sequel includes 12 more episodes of these defenders, defending the world with love. I really liked this show. It’s sad that I didn’t find it till after it aired. The characters would also make an adorable cosplay so like there is that. To find all the music from this anime is super easy, just look up “Earth Defence Club” on Spotify. The opening, “絶対無敵☆Fallin' LOVE☆” is on my playlist. It’s a bop. Everything is a bop with this anime.

This anime is a boxing anime. It’s second season is wonderful; however, it was quite different from the first. Nevertheless it was a great anime.

Anime of the day: Adachi to Shimamura

Released: 2020

Normally I try to vary the kinds of anime I write about everyday, but that’s made my anime list a bit messy with red. Instead I’m being lazy and will just write about them in the order they are on the list, which is who I could remember first and not watch order.

This anime is a shoujo ai, and it’s an extremely soft one at that. There are these two girls who skip class together and play table tennis. They weren’t friends at first but they got there eventually. They become attached to one another and develop an actual friendship. That is till one catches feelings. Instead of dividing them the feelings strengthen their relationship as they both try to figure out their feelings while also not losing their precious friend.

The story is a little complicated and it focuses on the characters growth and development. It was a really refreshingly light yuri. However, this is also a little bit of a problem for me. While the feelings were confessed it didn’t seem to me like any real romantic progress was clearly made by the last episode. They can come off as just really close friends. Either Way I really enjoyed this anime. The comedic elements were very organic.

Anime of the day: The Cat Returns

Released: 2002

I’m just going to open myself to the firing squad. I’ve already mentioned this before but this is my favorite Ghibli. This was also my first Ghibli. It’s super special to me and I love watching it. It’s about Haru who accidentally saves a cat prince and then is kidnapped to become his bride. With the help of her friends Muta and Baron, Haru must escape the Cat Kingdom or she will stay a cat forever. The sound track for this anime is perfect. I have no negatives when it comes to this anime. Weirdly enough it’s one of the few anime I’ve ever watched and enjoyed in English. Plus everyone has a crush on Baron by the end of the movie. Its perfect. 

Plus the memes are priceless.

Tsuneo is focused on college. He works multiple jobs to help him towards his dream. So when a nicely paying job watching over a girl comes up, he takes it. This girl is Josee. She lives confined to her house. Her grandmother doesn’t trust the world with Josee because she is in a wheelchair. Now these two are stuck together and figuring it out along the way.

This is a commission by Kannez and I’m so in love! I love how Kinshirou has a triunphant expression while holding Atsushi (poor At-chan needs a bath and new clothes, though) and it quite fits the KinAtsu fanfic I’m about to post online (she even created a cover version with the title for me, she’s really lovely).

I love when Epinard is holding Aurite to save him, but I definitely wanted to see the other way around because of... drama? Maybe. Also, redeemed!Kin-chan is always worrying about At-chan’s safety, so maybe he could be the one holding Atsushi in his arms sometimes... maybe someday we can find a fanart of that (or, if someone out there knows one, please show me!).

As for this commission, context is quite different, though. Angsty and dreamlike, actually.

Anyway, I’ll be posting it in Portuguese tomorrow (or today...?). And I’ll try to translate it into English soon (or so I hope).

Meanwhile, here goes a Chevalier Aurite holding the one thing (or person) we all know he really wanted (who cares about ruling Earth?).
