hi!! sure, I have a lot of new followers and I was just thinking the other day abt this and how my blog is like 70/30 my personal life v Taylor so that must be confusing for new people. so yes! here's the spark notes:

My name is Holly and I just turned 28! I grew up outside of Boston and lived in NYC for ~10 years after I went to art school there. I dropped out of college after one semester to pursue my actual dream of touring with artists. After I dropped out I spent a while willingly homeless in NYC so that I could establish myself & my career there. Eventually it worked & I had been doing freelance photography, videography, graphic design and merch sales as steady income since ~2017. I was in a 5 year, emotionally abusive relationship with my high school sweetheart and finally ended it in 2018. A bit after this, I went to Australia for the first time with my then-friend now-boyfriend (Nov 2018). I've been obsessed with Australia since I was like 5 years old and it was an incredible adventure. I spent about 3 weeks there alone without then-friend, and during those 3 weeks met a Man. The last night we spent in Australia on this trip was Christmas Eve, and said man invited me to have an outdoor Love Actually screening and have a wine picnic with him and all his friends. it was one of the best nights of my life. We hooked up and he singlehandedly cured some sex-related fears I had from the previous relationship and I couldn't stop thinking about it for months. Back in America (Jan 2019) I entered my hoe phase in a never-ending quest for validation and slept with every guitarist I'd ever worked with while meanwhile having a big mental breakdown. Enter a John Mayer vibing man we called the Guitarist here, and a lot of Bad Shit he did to me in his own validation quest mental breakdown (May-August 2019). Clearly my only choice was to fly back to Australia to see the other guy! And I did (September 2019)! Then I was mega depresso when I went home bc my life felt hopeless & I'd already lived out all the hope it had going for it :) I continued my hoe phase and chronicled it via Spice Nights where I’d just answer nsfw asks and give advice for like 8 hours straight. This is waxing over it but it was chaotic and I cannot understate the Depression (Feb 2020).

Then the pandemic happened whomp whomp. I lost all my gigs and posted about it on Tumblr dot com, this blog gained a very large following sort of bc of being a Taylor blog and sort of bc of live-blogging all the drama. ms Taylor Swift saw it and she sent me $3,000 to cover my rent for all of lockdown. a lot happened as a result of that but in the end I realized it was not smart to stay in NYC and spent summer 2020 roadtripping around the US with my then-friend who had first come to Australia with me, who had since joined the leagues of guitar-playing-employer-i-was-sleeping-with (there were 4 in total but I was in loveeeeee w this one). Big Cruel Summer vibes. my friend group exploded partially as a result of my behavior and partially bc they were cunts who didn't care about John Mayer vibe man manipulating me. So then I said fuck it and moved to Montana to work in a national park w guitar guy I Actually Loved who had become my boyfriend at that point, and we lived there until winter 2021. Then I started touring again, got insanely successful, was making more money than most people I knew with salaried jobs and booking work all over the world, my relationship ended over some drama I found out about way after the fact but then we got back together & moved in together (May 2023). Going great. Then I got so fucking burnt out from my job I was like stop the presses I am fucking off to Australia I can't do the music industry and the mega late-stage capitalism anymore. so now I live in Melbourne and am a bartender at a fancy cocktail bar and my relationship is sort of a LDR but I’m going home soon maybe(?) and that is what you missed on Glee!!!!

After killing someone which we know is a big trigger for him historically.

But Ed also had a valid reaction. He's wanted to retire for a while and stede knows this but it hasn't seemed to have sunk in quite yet. He fears that Stede only sees Blackbeard and...its fair of him to have that impression tbh. These are two messy, traumatized dudes who have never had a real relationship and there's gonna be bumps. I hope we get s3 so we can better explore that like Djenks wants.

this is frokiston and he has every disease. i havent seen a ton of him yet (so this will not be long which i think is for the best. but he has a lot of the ummm. features that aki and from what i understand of astarion have which is why i think you'll like him). hes basically the leader of Ikuaipe (which. quick pause to get into politics before i continue. because unfortunately its important and the politics do tie into him due to his position in society). the map is there to well. hopefully help it be easier to understand the politics im so sorry (and also because his head is kind of cut off like this. jumpscare of old man face)

so. volfoss politics 101: three big countries: ikuaipe, asdenia, and caldealand. asdenia and ikuaipe are at war by the time you hit act 2 over the fact that asdenia basically stopped exporting rare metals that ikuaipe used for drugs (for like. no reason rly but its been VERY shitty for ikuaipe bc they either have to smuggle it over or experience very bad withdrawal symptoms) and depending on what route you take (there are 5: asdenia, caldealand, ikuaipe, good, and bad), the war itself is properly started/furthered due to differing events (a monster in one, frokiston's seeming kidnapping in other. we will circle back to that). one of the really nice things abt volfoss is how even when you take one of the country's sides, you'll still see the other country (and in a sympathetic light too. like theres nuance there basically). the political structure of each nation is different (so like. with caldealand, theres a prime minister, king and queen; asdenia has weird shit going on where its like? the arch priest seems to kind of be leading or somewhat. its weird man idk. and ikuaipe has frokiston as the king, gust as like his evil inventor or whatever and veycer under him as the lead of the military. this is all important im so fucking sorry. there will not be a quiz at the end)

you have made it OUT of the politics section and now i can talk about him as a character. he's very interesting to me due to his self sacrificing natures (which is why i immediately thought of him when you sent an ask in). the two most prominent examples is in the ikuaipe route, when the war starts (or is about to), he puts himself in risk to go talk to Tiece (who's the archpriest of asdenia) (this journey is like. the entire length of the world. ill toss a map in above to help keep all this straight and also to show for reference why this man is making a VERY dangerous sacrifice), all because he just doesn't want the war to start. literally EVERYONE is like hey. this is a really dumb idea. dont do this. and he just is insistent bc its for the good of the country. i kind of hesitate to be like oh found family moment bc thats not really the case, but he's very much a figure that veycer can look up to and someone who veycer turns to before he leaves, because NEITHER of them want this war really. but frokiston is level headed but is there for veycer as he's coming to terms with the fact that the war may be necessary in order to get the rare metals in order to help their citizens. and then um well. he gets kidnapped/disappears shortly after this (on this route at least. idk about the 3 routes i havent done/the rest of this route) and that is enough for veycer to basically kickstart the war into high gear, as he assumes asdenia did SOMETHING to him and would do anything to get him back. and i think um well if you think about the tragedies and all w aki. that the parallels are there.

we are onto part TWO of the self sacrificing natures. when on the asdenia route, he's the final boss. also he has had body modifications here. unclear as to what they are but it could be really anything. tossing that light hearted fact in before i hit you with the horrors. into the horrors now though :3 so all through the asdenian route, you see veycer kind of butting heads with frokiston on this because frokiston does NOT want this war. he will do anything for peace but eventually it gets to the point where he realizes it has to happen. and hes very upset about this bc its painted as veycer is a bit more supportive of the war happening, and frokiston just kind of like. being there and being kind of miserable about it for a bit because he really can't do anything (as we see in the ikuaipe route, its not really safe for him to leave the capital, so he's just stuck there).

but the self sacrificing point comes after you beat him. he pretty much says that ikuaipe has no future now, and shows gratitude towards shalvas for being a good fight at the end of his life. and here is when we start to see the self sacrificing tendencies RAMP up. directly from my summary bc well. "He pleads with Shalvas to finish him off and then he will show his body to everyone. His plan is that if they do that, Veycer and the others will stop fighting. Frokiston wants no more lives to be sacrificed." He literally fully believes that showing his body will stop everyone because the fact that their leader was defeated would make everyone just. stop. Sheala (who's one of the Ikuaipe army commanders. she's great you'd love her) is also there, and he is SO relieved to see her because it does genuinely seem like he cares about them (veycer and sheala are siblings) a lot and worries about them. one of the higher up people in ikuaipe (turi-marrya. sorry there are a million names. shes important and u would love her ok. i promise) is the only one who can really persuade him that he shouldn't throw his life away for this, and sheala has to basically persuade him that he's the only one who can stop gylor (leader of the asdenia military) and veycer from continuing to fight. Turi has to pretty much beg Frokiston to live, and again from my notes:

"Frokiston pauses to think for a very long time, before finally saying “...I… Maybe I was trying to escape from death by embellishing my words beautifully. Should I make amends? It is very sensible to think of it that way.” Turi says his name and he finally comes to a decision, saying that they need to go to Veycer right away, and that after that, both he and Veycer will formally declare their surrender. Turi replies, “Bless your courage, Your Excellency Frokiston.” He rejects that, believing that if he looks brave, it is because of Turi. Frokiston feels encouraged due to the lack of doubt in Turi’s words."

but i think his interactions w veycer and sheala are so interesting, and especially turi. like shes a very blunt person and cannot hide her emotions well, and that being reassuring for him, that she knows for sure that he can help. its very interesting to me (read: typing this up made me get 5 million times worse about the characters)

he's also just kind of like. a silly guy at times. he goes to the tournament earlier in the game, and Gust has invented some like. super fast powered transporter. and is sure using frokiston as a test dummy for it (objectively funny of gust like. hes like well um ^-^ it functions but this was the test run) and hes just like completely ok with it and thought it was fun. i do not know all of his deals and issues yet but i think the position hes in and his diseases would appeal to you :3 and SOMEONE needs to fuck that old man (or something idk.)

4. What detail of twfafy are you really proud of?

Probably the fact that I wrote it all and am still striving to finish it! I haven't been as interested in engaging with atla beyond general appreciation for the show for a while now, and in some ways that had made pushing through twfafy challenging. But, I do have an affection for the story itself and the characters and the joy that comes with sharing it that absolutely keeps me dedicated to finishing the fic no matter how my interest in the source text wanes/changes. I wanted to add to the mailee tag because they're just wonderful and I'm really happy to have done so!

10. How do you decide what to write?

Spite!

Well, fanfiction usually comes about when a thematic interest of mine coincides with questions I have of the source material and whichever ones pull me in the most get written. Twfafy is in large part an effort to offer another mailee longfic where they are the sole pairing, but there are a lot of things working within it. I had questions abt how fandom treats the young fire nation characters, how the show itself engages with them, how a romantic relationship between the mai and ty lee would function in a close-to-canon context, how mai and ty lee's betrayal of azula could have been rooted in years of build up and what that might look like, how their perception of the war changes, etc. and thematically there's all the usual points about love, family, loss, absence, violence, and agency which paired with the questions i have. the draw is definitely the mailee relationship, but there's other stuff here lol. 'Always You' was in response to conversations fandom has had about wei wuxian in mo xuanyu's offered body in the present timeline, which either dissatisfied me, intrigued me, or plainly pissed me off. How to approach that in a fic was interesting to me, and I thought it could work as a smaller piece to give u for ur birthday. Thematically we're dealing with identity, recognition, love, the past as it shapes the present, physical appearance feeling contradictory, etc. which worked with my questions of the story that became 'Always You.' And now I'm working on a big au trying to marry some of the themes of hmc with the characters, setting, and story (almost not quite it's a whole thing) paired w my own need to write old man lan wangji. My sunshot canon divergence is mainly based on spite, while also considering several themes that i will be making everyone's problem soon enough :)

19. If you wrote a spin-off to 'Always You,' what would it involve?

There's a few things left unsaid that could be fun to play with. maybe we would check-in on lan xichen we all seemed to love the super fun time lan xichen was having of things. maybe another scenario could push the unanswered questions to firmer resolution, but idk I really love where the fic ended. I'm not sure an expansion would service it, no matter how fun it would be. But who knows, I may have a better idea to expand it by the time ur birthday comes again.

25. What other website or resources do you use most often when you write?

What, am I supposed to reveal all my secrets???

While I've gone on many a Wikipedia binge while writing I rarely use it as a source, especially given how complex some questions can become. Mainly, I have the original text beside me and marked off to relevant sections so I can refer to it (or reaffirm that I am not making shit up when pulling on canonical specifics). For twfafy I have a tab open to watch the atla episodes relevant to what the given chapter is covering (and I still manage to fuck up the timeline, go figure). Mdzs fics are written with three/four different translations open to check quick details I somehow forgot in the 600k+ words of text or to look over descriptions of places, characters, and so on.

When it comes to research I don't fuck around. At least, I try not to, I think it's important (I'm not biased not at all ignore the history major behind the curtain). But I'm also privileged with my university email which gets me access to academic sources that are often indispensable, informative and interesting. Researching for fic is a whole other topic that I won't get into here ask separately if you want an overly invested reply lmao. Even if none of the stories I engage with are strictly historical I do think there's value, even responsibility at a certain threshold of ignorance/inexperience, in like. At least tossing an inquiry into ur search bar instead of copy-pasting the usual responsibility-waving disclaimer in the fic's notes.

30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?

In original fiction, all the fucking time, often for a grade, lol.

I don't know if I've written enough fanfiction to make this claim, but I think so? The zu/kka longfic that I was writing years ago was far from my comfort zone, but that experience was actually quite detrimental to shaping my confidence as a writer and reliance on external validation (no 17 year old should know that thousands of ppl like the fic they aren't sure they can ever finish, it will make them believe they've peaked while they form an unhealthy, warped view of what amnt of feedback signifies that you've written something "good." ahem.) But from that point, I've only ever written fic that I was invested in and cared about outside of the response it garnered from others. I am the proud writer of two fics that could be considered certified flops in some circles and I love 'em!

Content-wise I suppose this new sunshot canon divergence is out of my comfort zone in that it has no plot but is being written quicker than I've ever written anything in my life. We'll have to see how that goes!

45. What's something you've improved on since you started writing fic?

I hope my prose has gotten a bit better. I know it can get a bit clunky and arrhythmic, but I imagine fixing that will just be a matter of time. I do think my descriptions have improved, though I'm sure there's much room to refine them. Sometimes I even use the right "its/'s," so there's that.

Ty Lee leaned in and forced the book open, right on the page where that account lay, calling out to Mai’s shame with dark ink that seemed to grow bolder the longer she tried to avoid looking directly at it. 

“‘Lover,’” Ty Lee whispered. “It’s always ‘lover.’”

“Always?” 

She released her grip on the book gladly when Ty Lee tugged for it, feeling cool air upon her palms when once more they touched nothing. 

“This is a good story,” Ty Lee said, as if Mai hadn’t spoken aloud. “You should read it.”

HMC AU CH.1

 “Jin-gongzi, do not misunderstand. Whatever right you may have to these grounds on the basis of your clan’s prominence does not negate the hazard these nets pose. When we talk of fairness we mean it to extend to conduct, as well. These nets violate the principle of fairness in every conceivable way, isn’t that so?”

Though the boy’s point had been lengthier than strictly necessary, Lan Wangji couldn’t help but approve. 

Jin Ling’s petulant gaze froze over. 

“How is it fair to me that they’ve stepped in my nets? Did I set them with the intention to catch anything but prey? What principle is followed by that stupid girl being too dull to see the clear trap I laid? Is it so hard? These nets are made of gold!” He pointed an accusatory finger towards the round-faced girl, who stood a pace off from them. “It is not my fault if you're too simple to recognize the sheen of a golden net! You wandering cultivators always make such a mess!” He switched his ire back to the sweet-faced boy and stepped forward, shaking a bit. “You wait until I’ve settled the matter here on Dafan mountain, then see if you still have such an issue with me!”

No matter how he tried to follow, Wei Wuxian could not catch up to it, could not stand within, for Lan Wangji walked too quick and didn't know to look behind. Eventually, all light became shadows, and only in their veil was Wei Wuxian able to take the extra step forward, walking beside Lan Wangji once again.

Excerpt Three:

He’d dragged Lan Wangji an inch, mud caking on the heels of those plain white boots.

A serving boy, no more than fifteen, came upon them. His robes were splattered here and there with dried, cracking blood.

“Hanguang-jun is, is he…?”

Wei Wuxian continued to struggle, walking backwards, his feet threatening to slip on the ground beneath him.

“He’s fine,” he said, fully aware of how their position looked to an outsider.

The boy hesitated, debating his next course of action, before he stiffened and tilted his head chin-up, defiant.

“Wei Wuxian, I must defend the corpse of this gentleman. You will absolutely not be allowed to use Hanguang-jun’s body for your purposes on the battlefield.”

Post-Election diary/long post #3... Not open to debate, once more, just thoughts. Just screaming to the internet void, trying to process a loss that might very well make my life very, VERY hard for the foreseeable future.

That's what the Dems are up against. Their "messaging problem", to me, is that they're always preaching to the choir. The millions who GET IT, and understand what has to be done to keep something of a democracy afloat. And it wasn't enough to topple the anomaly that is Trump, the former celebrity bumbling buffoon that so many Americans just "vibe" with. And not Kamala Harris, and probably not incumbent Joe Biden if he had run for re-election this fall. Hell, who WOULD'VE beaten him this time? I couldn't fucking tell you.

Still, Kamala did get 71m votes (as of this writing), the 4th largest amount of votes behind Biden, and Trump twice. So, Dems are REACHING somebody with their "messaging"... It's just not enough. If it had been Vance, Haley, or a schmuck like DeSantis or Vivek or whoever. One of those interchangeable bigoted fuckheads, I think it would've looked more like 71m votes vs. 55-60m votes. A real Obama vs. McCain landslide.

Soooo... Yeah, I'm not one of those "lay down and take it" types. I'll believe there will be no 2028 presidential election IF I see it, not WHEN. I'm not getting into that right now, I already did on previous posts and elsewhere. I don't do that doomer shit, that obedience in advance nonsense. They want us to feel helpless, that we'll ultimately lose everything so mustn't even try anything...

Anyways, where was I? He's old and he's not going to be around for much longer, and there's really no one else like him that the GOP can turn to once his time is up. That could mean two things, him getting ill/dying in office, or him not succeeding in overturning free-and-fair elections by 2028 and that someone else has to run after he's done. Again, there's no one else like him in the sphere. Certainly not among their *actual* politicians. Again, Vance or any of them would likely lose 2028 against a fairly competent Dem candidate, whomever that may be.

Speaking of which, I have no idea who side blue could possibly pick for that election, I'd rather focus on the base of the mountain first before reaching the peak. Ya'know, upcoming local elections, gubernatorial, AGs, etc., and the midterms in 2026. This time, we won't have an incumbent stepping down merely a hundred days before the election and much more focus, so we've got that on our side at least.

But the question remains for the Dems... How do you even break the right-wing misinfo sphere AND reach these wishy-washy voters? That's who to court, in addition to keeping the Dem faithful. It seems the Dems are just very behind on this. Kamala's campaign was great if it were run in 2012, against someone like Mitt Romney. Not against someone like Trump, that's for sure. In retrospective, I still couldn't tell you who would beat him under all those circumstances. I know, like many Dems, I greatly underestimated a lot of my fellow and not-so-fellow Americans.

I kinda felt, foolishly, that surely the allegations, 1/6, his own base trying to snuff him, all the shit he spewed about trans people and immigrants and Haitians and damn near everybody, all his other flubs... Surely...

But NO... Those voters might as well have elected Freddy Krueger because he had good vibes or something.

At the very least, within a week of the results being called, we're already going all Kowalski, Analysis on what went wrong, and trying ALL the variables.

Evening had set in along the port city of Kugane, the night life had been more lively than most nights, likely due to a special event being just around the corner for the far eastern nation. While the two weren't ones for big crowds or taking part in such celebrations, they did however still partake in their own way. Mostly done from the comfort of their own home, they still needed to make their way to the markets to procure a few things.

Suki had kept close to Jin, clinging to his arm, tail making its attempts to keep coiled around his leg with every step, her head buried in his side; her eyes scanned the area. She had never been a fan of so many people in one place, the prospect often overwhelming her senses, causing her to shut inside her or glue herself to Jin's hip more than she usually does.

The viara himself wasn't a fan of crowds either. Though, in his case, he had a general disdain for people, having been around long enough to see nearly any and every side an individual can possess; it only caused him to become more jaded as time went on. He kept an arm around the raen, understanding well by now that she would rather be anywhere else right now and he couldn't agree more with her.

"I promise, we'll make this as quick as possible. Trust me, I don't want to be here long either.", Jin spoke up, trying to be heard over the bustling city folk.

She nodded against him, one of her hands clutching at the fabric of his kimono, "I know, I know. I'm sorry for being like this…"

He'd shake his head, "Hey, don't be sorry - some people aren't-"

In the midst of his sentence, a couple of drunkards bumped into them, nearly stumbling back onto the gravel in the same motion. "H-HEY! Watch where you're goin'. There's more than just you two here, you know!"

Jin quirked a brow at the remark, grumbling a bit under his breath, though offering a hand nonetheless. "Yes, you and your friend here should keep that in mind as well. Just an observation."

The man had a fowl expression on his face, rejecting the offered hand as he clumsily regained his footing, getting a little too close to Jin, "W-What did you-hic-just say? You're the one that wasn't paying attention." He glanced down to Suki, the other imbibed friend having been eyeing her up the entire time up to that point. "This your lady?" The other spoke with a slur, comparing the two side by side, "Aren't you a little old for a girl that fresh? She looks like she should still be taking classes."

Jin's brows furrowed, a nerve struck at the remark. Suki's cheeks reddened at the suddenness of the question. Jin looked over to her then back to the two hindered individuals, "She's my ward. I'm duty-bound to her." He said this as he brought her impossibly closer, already smelling an altercation blending in with the stench of sake and whatever else they were up to prior.

The two looked at one another, a wide grin spreading on both before looking back to Jin and Suki, "Oh? Duty-bound? What, you two love doing that kind of roleplay? You into that kinda thing? Not surprising with people arou-hic-nd here."

The expression on Jin's face contorted more, a scowl slowly drawing on his features. Suki placed a hand on his chest, "Jin, please. Let's just go, o-okay?"

The other chimed in right after, "Aw, what?~ Afraid to admit it? Don't worry, we can help you out. Have you called him 'daddy' yet? Or may-"

Before the man could finish his remark, Jin gifted him a backhand that sent him hard on his back. "Who the fuck-", the other spoke, grabbing the neck of the bottle in his hand, swinging it towards the viara.

Seeing it from a malm away, he caught the arm, using his free hand to find a vice grip around the drunkard's neck. He put an uncomfortable amount of pressure around it, the man starting to choke and suffocate.

Jin kept him like this, the hues of his deadpan expression flashing a fervent glow, "I'd prefer if you didn't end up like your friend, so keep your mouth shut. Pick him up and be on your way, less I hail the guard after taking care of you."

A deadly glare pierced the man for a moment longer, Jin wanting to watch the life slowly drain from his eyes - a lesson being taught for his careless words.

"Jin, please! You're going to draw too many eyes!", Suki spoke, looking around as other passersby started to take notice, mumbling to those nearby. "We'll get what we need to tomorrow, earlier, so we don't have to worry about this. Please…"

The plea had been heard, bringing him out of whatever depth he'd begun to fall into. Simply throwing him aside, the man tumbled next to his companion, gasping and choking for air.

By the time he regained his breath, Jin and Suki were already blending back into the crowd, making a path towards the bridge and back home.
