Cause | Biden-Harris 2024
This is a new Biden-Harris campaign ad, which is focused on the fight to save our democratic republic. Below is the transcript:
JOE BIDEN: I've made the preservation of American democracy the central issue of my presidency. I believe in free and fair elections and the right to vote fairly and have your vote counted. Now something dangerous happened in America. There's an extremist movement that does not share the basic beliefs in our democracy. All of us are being asked right now: What will we do to maintain our democracy? History's watching. The world is watching. Most important, our children and grandchildren will hold us responsible. The Vice president and I have supported voting rights since day one of this Administration, and I ask every American to join me in this cause. America is still a place of possibilities where the power resides with “We the People.” That's our soul. We are the United States of America. There is nothing beyond our capacity when we act together. I'm Joe Biden and I approve this message.

« Since 1945 I don’t think there has been a politician in a democracy who’s used such authoritarian language, ever. It’s hard to think of anybody. Viktor Orbán, Vladimir Putin when running for office don’t use the kind of language that Donald Trump uses, so that’s pretty notable. »
— Daniel Ziblatt, author and political scientist at Harvard University, quoted at The Guardian about the violent and incendiary language used by Trump and his followers.
In that same article, we hear the MAGA crowd is already threatening violence over an election they haven't yet lost.
One of the police officers injured by Trump's January 6th terrorists made a prediction.
“Regardless of whether Donald Trump wins or loses, there’s going to be violence,” said Michael Fanone, a retired police officer who was seriously injured by pro-Trump rioters at the US Capitol on 6 January 2021. “If Donald Trump loses, he’s not going to concede and he’s going to inspire people to commit acts of violence, just like he did in the weeks and months leading up to January 6, 2021. “If he wins, I also believe that there’s going to be violence committed by his supporters, targeting people who previously tried to hold him to account, whether it was members of the press, average citizens like myself, Department of Justice officials, state and federal prosecutors. I believe him when he says that he will have his vengeance.”
There will probably be violence if Trump loses but it won't last long. A big difference now is that Trump does not control the National Guard, the Army, the FBI, and federal prosecutors. That 4 hours of rampaging and defecating terrorists at the Capitol certainly won't be repeated.
On the other hand, if Trump wins, we'll have 4 long years of intermittent political violence by Trump's brownshirts which will go unpunished. And that's 4 years if we're lucky. Trump treats the law as an option to be ignored if it suits him to violate it.
So don't be intimidated by MAGA loudmouths like Charlie Kirk.
In an early preview of how aggressively Trump’s supporters might react to defeat, Charlie Kirk, a far-right political influencer, told an audience at a faith-based event last week: “I want to make sure that we all make a commitment that if this election doesn’t go our way, the next day we fight. It’s a very important thing; a lot of people don’t want to hear that. They say: ‘What do you mean it doesn’t go our way? It has to go our way. We have to win.’ I agree.”
If pro-democracy forces stay united and make sure that every single voter opposed to violent dictatorship votes to re-elect Joe Biden, the next few years may provide a breather for us – at least domestically. An unequivocal defeat for Trump will spark a crisis in the GOP; it may even cause a rupture in the party.
NOW is the time to get personally active in politics in real life. Slacktivism doesn't win elections but grassroots precinct work does.

Putting some positivity out there about the election
Harris has raised a record amount of money from small donors after Biden dropped out, in addition to being able to access all the funds from their campaign they already had
Trump is deeply unpopular and people have already seen the chaos that 4 years of his presidency would bring. A lot of people have been energized to vote against him, even if they're not fond of Dems
Polling showed a red wave for Republicans in the 2022 midterms, and yet they only barely had control of the House, and couldn't even agree on a Speaker for a historic amount of time. Dems also increased their lead in the Senate. Historically, midterms favor the opposition party and have lower turnout, so this is a good sign for the House in 2024
Dems are fighting back in swing states. PA and GA both put in Democratic senators in the midterms
In my home state of PA, I am from Bucks County, which is a swing county for the state. Moms for Libery took over the school board and used it to attack queer students, enact book bans, and funnel money to themselves and the superintendent. At the most recent election, Dems turned out and took back every single open seat, ousting the board and superintendent. Worry about similar takeovers in surrounding school boards also increased turnout
Abortion rights are on the ballot in many states, which has been a winning issue for Dems and increased turnout
Republicans were prepared to attack a feeble old Biden who isn't the strongest speaker. I don't think they expected him to actually drop out, and they now have to put an 78 year old convicted felon up against a prosecutor
Awareness of Project 2025 and it's contents has entered the public sphere and is being much more openly discussed on the news. While Trump has insisted he has nothing to do with it, most of the authors worked in his administration and Trump has worked closely with the Heritage foundation
Feel free to add more things on this thread, but the most important thing is to get out there and VOTE
Vote for President
Vote for Senators
Vote for Congresspeople
Vote in your local elections
Vote Blue down ballot

before we get an official announcement on who is replacing biden as the nominee, im just going to put this out there: do not mess this up. i don't care how little you like politics. i don't care if this new nominee isn't your first choice.
our alternative is trump. third party splits the votes, and abstaining is just going to fuck the entire united states over. your vote (AND support) matters, and i better see anyone who doesn't want trump to be elected and the United States to become a fascist, authoritarian regime throwing their full support behind this new nominee.
we have three months to go. we're in crunch time. if you don't want to lose your rights, support this new nominee with everything you've got.
edit: just in case this somehow wasn't obvious, this is NOT the post to be a pessimist on. don't say we're fucked. say TRUMP is fucked. we can't go back and change the nomination timeline, but we can absolutely support our new nominee and ensure they get elected.

Republicans can't win without threatening and committing violence. January 6th-like insurrections and election tampering will happen in states all across the country this time. Don't let her down!

Yesterday (March 23rd) was the 14th anniversary of President Obama signing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law. It enabled tens of millions of Americans to get previously unobtainable medical insurance – especially those with pre-existing conditions.
Republicans derisively dubbed the ACA "Obamacare" in order to disparage it. But rather than making the law look bad, their nickname gave Barack Obama permanent credit for something enormously popular. As then Vice President Joe Biden told President Obama at the 2010 signing, "This is a big fucking deal!" – and it still is.
Republicans have tried countless times to repeal Obamacare. Donald Trump campaigned in 2016 on killing it and and replacing it with something "better". Of course he had no other healthcare plan to replace it with.
Now Trump is running again and still wants to abolish Obamacare. If you have been helped by Obamacare or know someone who has, let people know that keeping the orange pus ball with bad hair out of the White House is the best way to ensure your health for years to come.
